Sofiane Boufal's late equaliser gave Southampton a fully-deserved FA Cup fourth-round replay against Tottenham after an entertaining encounter. Saints' manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and Spurs counterpart Jose Mourinho made FA Cup statements of intent by selecting strong line-ups - and their teams delivered a game high on quality, chances and passion. Spurs looked on their way into the fifth round just before the hour, when Son Heung-min crowned a superb break with a low finish from the excellent Giovani lo Celso's pass. Southampton, however, had a succession of chances to equalise, with man of the moment Danny Ings having a rare off day in front of goal and squandering several opportunities. Ings never let his head drop for a second and his tireless approach was rewarded when he set up Boufal for a thumping finish high past Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris with three minutes left. Adam Webster had given the visitors a richly deserved lead, heading in from Pascal Gross' right-wing delivery towards the end of the first half. However, Spurs, who played at a pedestrian pace during the first period, raised their tempo after the interval to fight back. Loyal, loved by the fans and trusted by his managers and players, the Spurs Captain became the club's record appearance maker, won two UEFA cups, two FA Cups, and two League cups. In doing so he endeared himself to a generation of fans as the leader and face of a club that, while not always successful, was always entertaining and gave its all on the pitch. In this new autobiography, Steve recalls his time at Tottenham, the players he shared the dressing room with, the managers he learnt from (including the great Bill Nicholson) and the colourful adversaries he squared up to on the pitch. He also tells of his time in management, including his spell working with Ossie Ardiles at Spurs under the chairmanship of the controversial Alan Sugar, and his successful period in Japan where he won the league Championship. As honest and uncompromising in his book as he was as a player, A Spur Forever is a must-read for all football fans who recall fondly the era of muddy pitches and approachable players.
