KNOW FEAR with Tony Blauer
100 episodes — Page 2 of 2

Ep 72Steven Pressfield
What an honor it was for me to interview Steven Pressfield. I have been a huge, huge fan of his for a long time. Years ago I read the Legend of Bagger Vance and Gates of Fire and was deeply moved by both books. And over the years I've read man of Steven's other books. It's interesting to note that he was one of the very few guests I've interviewed where I was actually nervous during the cal! Isn't that cute? The fear management expert was nervous. *I actually talk about this during our conversation. If you're in the tactical community or martial arts and you don't know who Steven Pressfield is, immediately purchase Gates of Fire and consume it! Enjoy this talk with Steven Pressfield!

Ep 71Matt Del Negro: 10,000 NOs
I've known Matt Del Negro for several years. You would never think he's an actor who has had key roles in The Sopranos, The West Wing, NCIS, Chicago Fire, and a dozen other movies and TV series. Why I make that statement is because he is so down to earth, so humble and if somebody asked me to guess his occupation, I would never think "actor". When I heard that Matt was releasing the book '10,000 NOs: How To Overcome Rejection On The Way To Your Yes', I was so excited for him. I've listened to his popular podcast 10,000 NOs and was curious – was it simply transcripts of interviews or something completely different? Meet the guy who plays Matt Del Negro in real life, my friend Matt Del Negro. https://www.matthewdelnegro.com/ You can get the book here: https://www.10000nos.com/

Ep 70VIOLENT PROTESTORS SURROUND YOUR CAR. NOW WHAT?
What should you do if you are driving and suddenly surrounded by rioters? ABOUT THIS PODCAST I was talking to my good friend Damon from Legacy Mentor and we were discussing the peaceful protesters surrounding cars and beating people up and attempting to kill them and he asked me what the hell we should you do if surrounded - this podcast was my answer. Want to train with me or my team? We don't' teach fancy techniques. We teach people how to think. We teach people to manage fear. We teach people how to move naturally, instinctively. We explain how to train your brain because its the mind that navigates the body. At the moment you need to act decisively you cannot get more training or order more gear — therefore, everything you need to at that fight needs to have been developed or acquired prior to that fight. Reread that. "At the end of the day...it's the end of the day" - and you want to make it there. Enter the CHOOSE SAFETY Law. To avoid danger at all costs starts with choosing safety - always. Do what you need to do to survive and that starts with deciding to choose safety now and that means you train before the fight. Stay safe out there. Coach B

Jack Carr
Retired Navy SEAL and bestselling author, Jack Carr, joins me today on the KNOW FEAR podcast. We don't talk about his novels, we don't talk about his military background, we talk about what is going on right now in our country, and Jack shares some sage advice on things we can all do to better prepare ourselves and families. His article aptly titled: Our Obligation to Fight, inspired me to reach out to Jack. You can read it here. More about Jack and his novels here.

Ep 68Ryan Michler
I have been following Ryan Michler online for several years now. You may be familiar with his name since I interviewed him for the Candid COVID Talks. This call is a much deeper dive into his mindset and philosophy. I have always been impressed with his singular focus, principles, ethics, and drive. His community, called Order of Man is perhaps more important today than at any other time in our history, as we are at a bizarre crossroads for masculinity and accountability. WATCH ON VIMEO https://www.orderofman.com/

Ep 66Michael Gervais
My friend Michael Gervais is one of the world's most successful sports psychologists. From working with the Seattle Seahawks and Pete Carroll to helping Felix Baumgartner become the first human to travel at the speed of sound without a capsule, he's an elite high-performance psychologist working in high-stakes environments. The list of people, organizations, and projects he's helped and worked on is too long to list here. This is one of the few interviews where I was making notes on thoughts I wanted to revisit for my own development and the work I do with my team on fear and managing fear. You're going to love this episode! If you are a fan of my research and work on mindset, Michael has a gift and insight in explaining the complexity of psychology which makes it so easy to understand and appreciate. He and Pete Carroll have a new Audible Original coming out tomorrow called Compete to Create. It will be a resource for learning how to train your mind and live better. Ep 67Fergus Connolly
What started as a quick catch-up from with my friend Fergus, quickly turned into a 90-minute call about the pandemic, antifa, politicians, fear, self-awareness, mindset, self-defense, de-escalation, empathy, and communication. You're going to really enjoy this and some of the gems he shared with me from his new book The Happiness Handbook were amazing! Dig in! Coach B *About Fergus: Dr. Fergus Connolly has worked with some of the world's leading sports, military, and business teams including Verizon, the San Francisco 49ers, University of Michigan, Liverpool FC and multiple Special Forces units. https://fergusconnolly.com/

Ep 65Gunnar Peterson
Gunnar Peterson possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience. After 30-years in the fitness industry, he has done about everything you could want or imagine as a professional coach. He's worked with the who's who in Hollywood, he's the Los Angeles Lakers' Director of Strength and Endurance, has worked with athletes from the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, USTA, professional boxing (male AND female!) and various NCAA sports and has a list of entrepreneurial affiliations and successes that are too long to list. It's easy when you get to the top of your industry to sit back and rest on your laurels, or delegate. Not Gunnar. He trains all the time. He still teaches and coaches. He is always moving, always creating. It was refreshing and inspiring to learn that he is still very much a student at heart and continually learning. That's a good lesson for all of us. While we talk about fitness, we mostly talk about life. His insights on learning, success, and personal development really hit home with me. I loved this talk and believe it's Gunnar's curiosity and humility that has helped him evolve into one of the world's leading authorities and coaches on fitness. I'm excited to share this with you. Coach B Watch on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/429117121 Learn more here: http://gunnarpeterson.com/about-me/

Ep 64John Welbourn
I've known John Welbourn for almost a decade. He's a monster of a man, at 6'6", weighing around 278 lbs, I can't even imagine getting hit by him. John played football in the NFL for 10 years and has since evolved into one of the world's top strength and conditioning coaches. He is CEO of Power Athlete and the host of Power Athlete Radio. What you will learn listening to this call is that John is equally adept with his brain as he is with his body. This is a very deep and passionate discussion about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Meet my friend John Welbourn. Coach Tony Blauer: Rant on Mindset, Fear, Preparedness and Response-Ability
Welcome to this somewhat unique episode of KNOW FEAR. Why? Because it's just me! It's a recording from my Wednesday morning garage gym self-defense class and I'm sharing it with you because my intro rant inspired by the current violence in America might be of value to you. Here are some of the things that I discuss: There is not one single magic technique in the world. The first fight you need to win is between you and you. How can we solve problems in times of chaos? Where is the first place we are hit? How to think about intuition so that it serves you during a crisis. What I think you should do when you get any fear spike. Tips to reframe fear. My consent and preparedness model. Holy shit moment? Remember the F.U.C.K. formula. The Tactical Trinity. This metaphor can change how you navigate life: Mind Body Spirit becomes Nav-System Car Fuel. I wrap up this call with a review of the inspiration philosophy and science around the SPEAR System. The difference between the Spear system and the Spear tactic Evidence-based self-defense. Techniques versus Tactics. The choicest choice and remember you are a human weapon. Ep 16Bobby Maximus: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
Bobby Maximus has a huge personality, he's also a huge man, weighing in at 261 lbs. I've gotten to know him pretty well in the past year and he always amazes me with his passion, intelligence, and positive mindset. It's no wonder he's become such a successful coach and leader in the fitness space. His thoughts on mindset and attitude during the lockdown will empower anyone listening. This is a great call with lots to learn for everyone. Bobby was a police officer and he fought in UFC 58, UFC 62, and Ultimate Fight Night 5, where he won Submission of the Night. He now runs Bobby Maximus Inc. a one-stop-shop for fitness, nutrition, and mindset. Learn more here: https://www.bobbymaximus.com/

Ep 15Bedros Keuilian: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
I've known Bedros for several years now. I was introduced to him through my good friend Jay Ferruggia I immediately liked Bedros. He's a deep and passionate listener with a lightning-fast mind. His origin story is fantastic (read MAN-UP as soon as you can). Essentially, he taught himself to survive and thrive, and grow into a business leader, best-selling author, speaker, business consultant and he also created Fit Body Boot Camp, one of the nation's fastest-growing franchises. But Bedros, the business wizard, is not the reason I had him on the KNOW FEAR podcast. What caught my attention was his recent posts about the pandemic, specifically the lockdown and his thoughts on the infringement on our rights. Warning: Bedros is passionate, raw, and blunt and I love it. Meet my friend Bedros Keuilian. Learn more here: https://bedroskeuilian.com/ Video Version on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/422944046

Ep 14Ryan Munsey: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
My friend Ryan Munsey has a deep understanding and appreciation for the relationship between mindset, movement, and getting things done. As the author of F**K Your Feelings and co-founder of The Better Human Project, I knew he would have important thoughts to share as we navigate the COVID-19 era. MORE ON RYAN HERE: https://ryanmunsey.com/

Ep 13Frank Grillo: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
I met Frank Grillo through my good friend Bryan Callen. I had been a fan of his for many years from his movies. I could tell he was a real athlete from the way he threw punches in his films, I knew he was a real boxer, but what I didn't know was how deep and thoughtful Frank was as a dad and as a human. In this talk, we discuss Bryan Callen the fighter, very briefly 😬- we spend most of the time talking about what we're all dealing with now, the pandemic/lockdown. Frank had some really interesting thoughts. We both share a love and passion for the Sweet Science: Boxing and we did manage to talk about it as well. You're going to dig this call with Frank Grillo. Video version in Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/414112336

Ep 12Master Ken: Covid Camera Talk with Coach Blauer
I don't pay for any guests to appear on my show, but Master Ken is a legend and I made an exception and it was worth every penny. I learned some very practical tactics for those who infringe on social distancing. Master Ken showed some very effective counters for fighting someone wearing a mask. I never knew this but Master Ken has his own SPEAR technique that he was gracious enough to demo on this episode. Lot's to learn. To watch the video, click here: https://vimeo.com/418175022 Learn more about this great master here on the ENTER THE DOJO SHOW: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxrd1I7wmE2chwpoqD4DSTA

Ep 11Ross Enamait: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
I've known about Ross for decades. He was the first low-tech workout innovator and it wasn't just about fitness, he's a real boxer and real coach. This talk is frank and direct as you would expect from a fighter. It was an honor to finally talk to Ross as he doesn't really do podcasts. If you don't follow him on IG, you need to. He's literally a beast in the gym. (Video of the interview on Vimeo) https://www.instagram.com/rosstraining/?hl=en http://rosstraining.com/blog/

Ep 10Clint Emerson - Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
Clint Emerson is a retired Navy SEAL combat medic who spent twenty years conducting special operations all over the world while assigned to SEAL Teams (including the elite SEAL Team SIX) and the National Security Agency (NSA). Over the years, he developed an impressive array of practical skills that he used in austere conditions both at home and abroad. This lead to the creation of Violent Nomad, a personal, non-kinetic program cataloging the skills necessary to defend against any predator or crisis. Since leaving the service, he has authored two books with a third on the way, is founder and managing partner of Escape The Wolf, and conducts training for various government agencies. Ep 9Bryan Callen: Candid Covid Talk with Coach Tony Blauer
Bryan Callen is not only incredibly funny, but he's also super intelligent. If you're already a fan of Callen the comedian, you will experience another, deeper side to him during this candid talk about COVID19 and our world right now. Video is on our SPEAR University page. ---- Bryan Callen is an American actor, comedian, and podcaster. Ep 62Anthony Smith - MMA Fighter Talks About His Home Invasion Fight with Coach Tony Blauer
I cannot believe how many people messaged me when Anthony Smith had the home invasion fight. So many people tagged me in the story. I didn't reply because at the time I was working on trying to interview him for the KNOW FEAR PODCAST but wasn't sure we would make it happen. We finally linked up today and I think you're gonna enjoy this talk. We cover a lot, from his personal feelings, specifically what was going in his mind during the fight. I shared thoughts on how 'emotional & psychological' systems affect energy & skill. I wanted to help him (and anyone who wants to listen) understand that when the rules change the skills change. Just because you're skilled in one arena doesn't mean it is easily transferable to another arena -being a skilled martial artist doesn't secure or ensure victory in a real street attack. I share this for your own safety. The goal isn't to criticize anybody or anything, but to help us all realize something I've shared for a long time, "violence doesn't care what martial art you study". When we understand the factors that impact our nervous system and our psychology, we can train differently, run scenario-specific training to create better adaptation, so we are better mentally prepared should we find ourselves in a serious violent encounter in the future. I hope you find this podcast informational and educational and most importantly, that you step away from it realizing that we all have holes in our systems and preparedness. And we need to continually assess and adapt. Now, what are we going to do with this knowledge? Like the wise Tim Kennedy says, "If the day ever comes that you have to fight for your life the only thing that will determine the outcome is if you ever trained and prepared for that fight." Ep 8Hans Molenkamp - Candid Covid Talk with Tony Blauer
Meet my friend Hans Molenkamp. I don't know anyone who has as diverse and dynamic a background and skillset as he does. From competing in and promoting extreme sports to manufacturing shoes, and MMA equipment. His Instagram feed is amazing. He's built several companies and is a marketing executive to the global brands, Triumph United, Monster Energy & cbdMD. Follow him on IG @hansmolenkamp http://www.hansmolenkamp.com/

Ep 7Akshay Nanavati - Candid Covid Talk with Tony Blauer
I met Akshay Nanavati through a mutual friend who said we would probably have a lot in common. That was an understatement. Akshay's mission in life is to help people find their true north by understanding that their truth is found by embracing their struggle. It's no surprise to me that the stepping stone for this is learning to use FEAR in a positive way. Akshay is a Marine veteran, speaker, adventurer, and entrepreneur. His new book "Fearvana" is an actionable guide on how to leverage fear to accomplish anything. The Dalai Lama said, "Fearvana inspires us to look beyond our own agonizing experiences and find the positive side of our lives." Learn more here: https://fearvana.com/

Ep 5Pat McNamara: Candid Covid Talk with Tony Blauer
I'm met Pat McNamara over 20-years ago while conducting training at Fort Bragg. He trained with me several times and his passion for combatives and fitness ensured we had a lot to talk about. Our friendship continues to this day. In this talk, Pat explains why he didn't have to get ready for the pandemic and shares some of his mindset and philosophy. Patrick McNamara spent 22 years in the United States Army in a myriad of special operations units. He retired from the Army's premier hostage rescue unit as a Sergeant Major and is the author of T.A.P.S. (Tactical Application of Practical Shooting) and Sentinel.

Ep 5Karl Steadman - Candid Covid Talk with Tony Blauer
In this special series, I am interviewing people that I've known for years, people I respect who have demonstrated consistent positivity and values over time. I've watched them during the pandemic to see if their messaging or their behavior has changed. It hasn't. Which inspires me. That's leadership. I met Karl many years ago through CrossFit and we became friends. He then attended our SPEAR System instructor development course, not because he wanted to learn self-defense to teach it, he wanted to know how to protect himself and his family. Karl also has a love of learning and that's one of the things that I most appreciate about him, his open-mindedness and desire to evolve and grow as a person. Karl Steadman possesses a level of humility and work ethic that I feel we can all learn something from. Follow Karl on IG @karlsteadman

Ep 4Shane Fazen: Candid Covid Talk with Tony Blauer
Our COVID19 talks continue. This one goes deep. If you don't know Shane Fazen, he is the man behind FIGHT TIPS, an online training, and coaching community with over 2.5 Million followers on YouTube and several hundred thousand on Instagram. I've known Shane for a while now, he's super humble, almost shy, which is an amazing contrast considering he is a powerful voice online and literally influences millions of people with his passion for martial arts. This was a deep, raw and honest talk. Shane on YouTube Shane on Instagram

Ep 3Dave Leduc, World Lethwei Champ - Candid Covid Talk WIth Tony Blauer
Dave Leduc is the Open Weight Lethwei world champion. If you don't know what Lethwei is google it - its an amazing combat sport. A lot of people assume fighters are mostly 'knuckle draggers'. While some are, most are highly intelligent, they're like chess players, except instead of using pieces on a board, they use real people! Dave is one of those highly intelligent fighters, you're going to enjoy this candid talk. Learn more about him here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Leduc

Mike Glover spent 18 years in the US Army and as a government contractor for OGA. He served as a SGM in Special Forces in various positions and deployed multiple times to combat theaters. Ryan Michler - Candid COVID19 talk with Coach Blauer
What do resilient minds do during times of adversity? What can we learn from their attitude and more importantly, their actions? I'm interviewing a select group of people who've inspired me with their creativity, adaptability, and positivity they've displayed during the COVID19 quarantine. Join me and please share these inspiring messages! Coach Blauer Learn more about Ryan and his company ORDER OF MAN

Ep 61JC Glick
Ranger. Leader. Author. Motivator. Mentor. I met JC Glick over 10 years ago while I was teaching a military contract. JC was a thinker. I noticed him immediately in class for two main reasons: 1) He asked deep questions during the theory portion. 2) He is 6'3 220 lbs. During a specific CQB weapon drill, he politely questioned the efficacy of one of our long gun retention principles, (that's polite for "I don't really think this will work"). At 5'8", 190lbs I had a momentary fear spike. And even though 'size matters', I trust physics more. We tested it - the move worked as promised. That moment was the beginning of our friendship. JC went on to do great things as a military leader, leadership consultant, two-time author, and entrepreneur. He's a close friend who has also helped me navigate through some challenging times, which makes him one of my mentors too. Meet my good friend, JC Glick. CONNECT WITH HIM ON LINKEDIN

Ep 60Andrew Huberman
It's not often you find a neuroscientist studying fear who growing up, also fought in the streets and trained and competed in combat sports. That's what makes Andrew Huberman's story and message amazing and even more credible to me! I'm fascinated by the mind and the brain and especially its connection to fear. I read what I can to make sure our method is consistent with modern principles of neuroscience. Unfortunately so much content online is often pedantic and academic making it hard to relate to. Enter Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., Professor of Neurobiology and Director of his own lab at Stanford School of Medicine where he works on brain mechanisms of fear and anxiety and neural regeneration. Mr. Huberman is not your typical professor A) because of his background and B) because he is able to convey complex ideas in ways "we" can all understand. Meet Andrew Huberman. Learn more about his work here

Ep 59Chris "Dutch" Moyer
I met Chris "Dutch" Moyer years while I was conducting combatives courses on Ft Bragg. One of those courses took place on one of America's darkest days, September 11, 2001. Chris was also in that class. Fast forward 18 years. We reconnected recently and after catching up I knew I wanted to get him on the KNOW FEAR podcast. His story and life experiences dealing with challenges and adversity go beyond his service to our country. He's fought several battles as you will learn. I love listening to veterans discuss their training and experiences, I learn so much from them, I know you will too. I'm in awe of these warriors. Meet Chris 'Dutch' Moyer. Chris' LinkedIn profile

Ep 58Rodney King - PhD, Self-Defense Coach
I've known Rodney for years. Decades actually. We share a lot of the same philosophies. We share many of the same goals and ambitions. Our approaches to training and safety are philosophically very similar. We've had very similar experiences in business, from the incredibly positive, like amazing success stories of our students to the very negative like betrayals by those we've mentored and trusted. We've also experienced similar injuries and have been living with chronic pain from the wear and tear on our bodies because of the path we chose - bluntly, we've beaten the crap out of our bodies to better understand violence. I consider Rodney a peer and a friend. We've done many interviews in the past on each other's platforms. But this was before I started the KNOW FEAR podcast and before Rodney earned his Ph.D., which is a significant achievement for anyone, but when you hear his story, his background, his WHY? it's even more impressive and you'll understand why I wanted him on KNOW FEAR. Meet my friend, Rodney King. Here's more info on Rodney King and his CRAZY MONKEY DEFENSE program. Crazy Monkey Defense – Preparing You For Full Contact Living! Rodney Interviews me: Episode 15: Tony Blauer, The Tip of The Spear - Combat... I interview Rodney for my DEATH BY KEYBOARD episode: I've lost my Way. What happens when you study martial arts...

Ep 57Dr. Belisa Vranich
I always took breathing for granted. I think most of us do. I've been teaching self-defense since 1977. I trained for hours. Sparred every student. Taught 7 days a week. I did this for decades. I always assumed my breathing was on point. It wasn't. That didn't mean I didn't have excellent cardiovascular conditioning, I did. But it was adapted for a specific scenario (even today, in my late 50s, I can do scenario-drills with 30-year old military studs and hang with them - but again, that's 'adaptation'., my body had acclimated. I needed to understand breathing outside my sport. Enter Belisa Vranich. Belisa had been on my list of breathing experts to connect with and we finally linked. Within minutes I learned I wasn't breathing efficiently. I didn't really understand the role of the diaphragm or how it moved. My Vital Lung Capacity (VLC) was restricted from scar tissue from broken ribs. I didn't know this! I was a vertical breather. Ugh! All of this impacted my athletic potential and it contributed to other subtle health issues. I learned so much during our private session that I also downloaded her book Breathe even though she gave me a copy after our session! If you are alive and breathing you don't want to miss this episode. Meet my friend Belisa Vranich. Learn more here. Follow her on IG

Ep 56Foundation Training with Eric Goodman & Jessie Salas
My relationship with pain is a long one. For better worse (mostly worse), I grew up in during NO PAIN NO GAIN era and as a result, my body has nagged at me for decades. In my frequent search for the next magic pill to manage my back and neck issues, I discovered Dr. Eric Goodman. I was intrigued by who he's helped from A-list actors to professional athletes, firefighters, BJJ practitioners and of course regular people like you and I. A year ago I finally had the chance to work with him and his amazing team. His method called, Foundation Training, has really helped me. If you're a human, living on planet Earth, you're working against gravity, looking down on a cell phone, hunched over a computer, sitting a lot (car/desk) and you likely experience back and neck pain. Meet my friends, Eric Goodman and Jessie Salas. Learn more here: https://www.foundationtraining.com/about/

Katie Hurd: SPEAR & Krav
Katie Toliao Hurd is the Self Defense Program Director at CSA Gym, she's a Krav Maga Black Belt, a member of the Krav Maga Alliance Training Team, an MTAA Champion, a KMA Force Instructor and last year, she was voted the Krav Maga Alliance 2017 'Instructor of the Year'. Katie recently had a very cool experience during one of her Krav classes and called me to share it. I love how much it excited her! This experience epitomizes what we strive to do at Blauer Tactical with our SPEAR System programs for all martial artists and self-defense instructors around the world. This is 15 minutes of passion!

Ep 55Mr. Jiu-JItsu - Michael Mihas
I started following Michael Mihas on Instagram where he has a very popular and irreverent page called MR JIU-JITSU. Many of his posts are very very funny - so funny in fact, that I private messaged him and asked if he had a team of comedy writers helping him. To which he LOL'd and admitted it was just him having 'deep thoughts while on the toilet'. No shit, I thought. I had to get him on KNOW FEAR. I didn't know him outside his posts, and as you can tell from his page name, he loves BJJ. Separate to his funny posts, his message is consistent - train -train - train - No Excuses. He pulls no punches when he posts or replies. So I knew our call could get controversial because of how I have created categories separating martial art training from martial training. Regardless, I wanted to get to know Michael, and hell it didn't matter if we ended up disagreeing on methods, as long as we had an intelligent conversation and inspired some people to train. Our call was pretty animated, here's a link to it too: https://vimeo.com/330247986 Go follow him here: https://www.instagram.com/mrjiujitsupage/

Ep 52Ryan Munsey - The Science Inside the SPEAR System
IMPORTANT: This is the AUDIO version, the KEYNOTE presentation with the SLIDES is available for you to watch on VIMEO - Here is the link. I invited Ryan to talk at my training camp after reading powerful sections from his book F**K Your Feelings. Ryan's passion for performance, his knowledge about how the brain works from neurotransmitter to the muscular extension and contraction made him a great choice to talk about the science inside of the SPEAR System. What was awesome is that Ryan didn't just show up onsite and ask for his dressing room...he came in early and trained with all the martial artists, cops, self-defense experts and then after doing a full day of training rewrote his presentation now that he had tasted and felt the connection between physiology, physics, and psychology - which is why I refer to my system as the 'science' of self-defense. If you're sitting on the fence about my system this should help push you over the edge. If you enjoy SPEAR, this will take your understanding to a deeper level. Dig in and learn more about the mind and the body from my buddy, Ryan Munsey.

Ep 50Coach Tony Blauer
When I was 15, my mom asked me what I was going to be when I was older, lawyer? doctor? work in the family business? I was stretching on the floor looking at Bruce Lee magazines and I told her I wasn't going to go to school, that I was going to create my own self-defense system and teach that. She pat me on the head and said, "Ok dear we'll talk about this when you're older". Well here we are 43 years later and I haven't stopped for four decades. When Stephen DiLeo, the editor-in-chief of Warriors Magazine told me he wanted me to be the cover feature of the 2019 New Year edition, I was humbled and flattered. As part of his research, he asked if he could interview me for the article and our talk turned out to be one of the deepest discussions on the science and psychology of self-defense system I've ever done. I hope you enjoy this. Stay safe, Coach B To learn more about Warriors Magazine click here.

Ep 51James Clear: Atomic Habits
I've been a fan of James Clear's newsletter for years and have enjoyed how strategic his writing was, always lucid, always interesting and logically compelling. When ATOMIC HABITS was released I bought it right away. I'm pretty disciplined and was curious to see what I could glean from the book to help me dial-in my habits even more. The book didn't disappoint! I finished it quickly and incorporated some of James' strategies the very next morning! I especially appreciated how James incorporated biology, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, to explain his system. This completely resonated with me, because it mirrored my approach to designing effective self-defense. When you understand how the brain works it becomes easier for you to make your brain work. Enjoy this podcast with James Clear! Click here to join his newsletter and learn more about his book ATOMIC HABITS

Ep 49Christmas Abbott
MUCH MORE THAN A PRETTY FACE Have you ever met someone who's famous because of their looks or athleticism or some other talent only to discover that's all they have going for them? Disappointing right? Not so with Christmas. Ep 54Joe Mullings
I've known Joe Mullings for about two decades. I met him years ago when he signed up for my SPEAR:PDR Trainer course. He was a standout in the class, not just physically, he had penetrating questions about the psychology - he was fascinated with mindset - I knew we would become friends. Over the years our professional relationship turned personal and now, years later, he's not just a close friend but he's become a business mentor helping me balance the art and science of what I love with the realities of scaling and growing a business, something Joe has finessed. Ep 48Nic McKinley - Deliver Fund
This is one of those topics that is very difficult to discuss let alone wrap your head around. The scope of the problem is mind-boggling. I sat down with Nic McKinley, the Executive Director of DeliverFund and discussed human trafficking. The topic is very disconcerting and the solutions aren't simple. This happens every day and could happen to someone you know. We cover a lot in this talk. It's heavy because we are talking about real people and not 'things' like guns or drugs. Some of the statistics reported will blow your mind. Fortunately, there are some very smart and motivated people fighting this war. Ep 39Bruce Lee: A life. By Mathew Polly
Bruce Lee: Icon, innovator, pioneer, legend. I discovered martial arts the year Bruce Lee died. His spirit and persona inspired me to go after my dreams. And in many ways, he had the most impactful influence on my journey even though I never had the honor of meeting him in person. I have an extensive Lee collection and have read ever biography printed so I was thrilled to see this new book released and written by an experienced author and researcher. I contacted Mr. Polly and he agreed to this interview. I met Mathew Polly for the first time during my interview with him. We connected immediately as we were both Bruce fans from way back. What Mathew didn't know was that I actually knew Brandon Lee for many years. We were friends, trained together, I did a film with him in Hong Kong and more. As a result, this conversation went deeper and was more personal than a stereotypical 'book launch' interview. "Forty-five years after his sudden death at age thirty-two, bestselling author Matthew Polly has written the first authoritative biography of Bruce Lee's life. This is an honest, revealing look at an impressive man whose personal story was even more entertaining than any fictional role he played onscreen." Jamie Dunham
I received this message on Facebook: My name is Jamie Dunham, I was explaining to a friend tonight how your tactics saved my life a few years back (outside a gas station in Memphis). I just wanted to finally thank you, because if it weren't for my dad diligently training me with your technique, I am positive that my story would've come to a violent end five years ago. Thank you so so much. I am truly a living testament of your work. Her story is mind-blowing.

"Genes expect certain behaviors of us" - Mark Sisson How do you apply that principle to food, fitness, sex, relationships, Life? This is just part of Mark Sisson's philosophy and message. S1 Ep 41Dave Lipson
I've known Dave Lipson for almost 10 years. I've never seen him frown. I've never seen him angry. He's as mentally tough as he is physically strong. I was curious as to how he views obstacles and challenges. For those of you who follow Dave's Instagram page, his online persona is quite different than talking to him one-on-one. You're going to be very surprised by this conversation. Dave's background is fascinating and this interview went deeper than I expected. I love learning new ways to look at life and challenges. Enjoy this intimate talk with my friend Dave 'freakin' Lipson. Learn more about his training programs here.

Ep 40Officer David Sachs
Officer David Sachs was honored with a Medal of Valor for his "extraordinary bravery and willingness to protect the lives of others, without regard for his own safety" the department said. He was also awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries while on duty. I met David at one of our custom CrossFit courses a couple of years ago. He had recently become a police officer after 11 years in the military and 7 years as a federal agent. During a call, the suspect's mother answered and invited the officers in. After stepping into the home's kitchen, the suspect attacked Sachs with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the face, head, and arm. The tactic he used to protect himself and clear the threat was a primal gross motor movement called the SPEAR, which he learned over a weekend at our CrossFit specialty course. Sachs was stabbed six times. Following seven months of recovery, he returned to full-duty and is still serving today. An amazing story. Click here to learn more about the incident.

Dr. Mark Cheng
I don't really know where to start to describe my friend Dr. Mark Cheng. He's a healer, a student of life and multiple martial arts. He's a teacher, coach, and an accomplished athlete. He's funny, irreverent, philosophical & deep. His commitment to educating and training his children is incredibly inspiring. With all these skills and accolades, you'd think he would be super serious or pedantic. Nope. What is most endearing [to me] is how Mark continues to carry himself: curious, humble and self-deprecating. Meet Dr. Mark Cheng. Mark has worked with some of the world's most accomplished performers. From Olympians and CEOs to entrepreneurs and stay-at-home moms to kids and college athletes. Ep 37Shawn Mozen
Lifelong martial artist, kettlebell pioneer and movement specialist, Shawn Mozen has been studying 'physical culture' for decades. His approach to training and coaching is refreshing because it's grounded in a philosophy that mirrors real-life: train to train, embrace the journey, do the work. Simple. But in this age of 'shortcuts' and 'secret hacks' many people miss the point of the journey. I've known Shawn for decades. He's not only a friend but he's a challenge to keep up with because he's also irreverent, sarcastic, witty and smart. This episode of KNOW FEAR will educate and entertain. Meet Shawn Mozen. Former Marine, Retired Navy SEAL, Former Air Marshal - after decades of missions around the world, Craig has found a new mission, right here, in the United States of America. In 2017, after a very personal experience, Craig Sawyer found a new mission and applied his years of training and experience to go after these degenerates. Craig is doing very important work. Ep 35Hans Molenkamp
From Conor Mcgregor to Nick Swardson. From Jocko Willink to Fedor. From Monster Energy to Triumph United. Who the hell is Hans Molenkamp? I connected with Hans about a year ago and discovered a mutual passion for 'creativity with integrity'. The more we spoke the deeper it got. He's a modern day 'renaissance man' with a love of music, art, and physical movement. We've both been grinding for decades and it's amazing to me that our paths only crossed recently. But I'm sure glad they did. Hans inspires me & considering my optempo, that says a lot. During this podcast I found myself simply listening and absorbing, Hans' story is pretty amazing, from his background in the skate/surf community to his beginning's with BJJ & MMA and how he built his relationships and brand. He's been behind the scenes for almost all of it. But more importantly, he has a legitimate philosophy about life and is willing to share it. Sit back and meet Hans Molenkamp. Follow Hans on IG
