Martin Prendiville, Director of Finance with Kilkenny County Council, spoke to KCLR News about a range of new developments planned for the Abbey Quarter. Speaking to Dermot Keyes, Mr Prendiville discusses the Council's decision, following approval from Councillors, to take out a €24 million loan to acquire Block 7 within the Abbey Quarter site, where it will consolidate its own offices which are currently housed at three other locations within the city.

This campaign, which is highlighting the risks of youth vaping and nicotine use, was launched by the HSE Tobacco Free Ireland Programme, Minister for Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD (FG), along with students, teachers and health specialists. Students at DLS Bagenalstown have also highlighted the risks associated with vaping and nicotine use. Emily Murphy and PJ McHugh told Dermot Keyes of KCLR News about whey they were keen to get involved in the new campaign.

This campaign, which is highlighting the risks of youth vaping and nicotine use, was launched by the HSE Tobacco Free Ireland Programme, Minister for Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD (FG), along with students, teachers and health specialists. For the first time, the HSE has worked with content creators to share the message about vaping prevention and to explain how vaping can impact mental, physical and oral health. Kasey Campion (with 170,000 TikTok followers and 37,500 followers on Instagram) is one of the content creators who has come on board for the campaign. She spoke to KCLR News' Dermot Keyes at Presentation De La Salle College today.

The Cork native (35) and Kilkenny resident also became the first rider to saddle the Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle (Lossiemouth) and Queen Mother Champion Chase (Il Etait Temps) victors at the same meeting, assuring himself a special place in National Hunt history. Between dozens and dozens of selfie and autograph requests, Paul spoke to KCLR News in Leighlinbridge about the greatest week of his remarkable career.

There was a carnival atmosphere in Leighlinbridge yesterday as the town welcomed home trainer Willie Mullins, wife Jackie and his Closutton team, including his top jockey Paul Townend, who has now saddled a record breaking five Cheltenham Gold Cup winners. Willie, who is the most successful trainer in Cheltenham history with an incredible 121 winners, won his fifth Gold Cup last week with Gaelic Warrior, while he also tasted victory in both the Champion Hurdle with Lossiemouth and the Queen Mother Champion Chase with Il Était Temps, all superbly brought home by Paul Townend. Our own Dermot Keyes joined the happy throng who welcomed the Mullins team and their three victorious steeds to Leighlinbridge, where he spoke to both Willie and Jackie.

1956 Olympic Champion Ronnie Delany, who spent time working in Carlow and Kilkenny, has died at the age of 91. The Olympic Federation of Ireland has expressed “deep sadness” at the passing of the 1956 1500 metre champion who made his name on the college circuit in America before achieving international track success - both indoors and outdoors. The Wicklow native, who had a stint with the Army Cadets and also sold vacuum cleaners in our locality during his teens, was remembered on this morning's KCLR Daily. Brian Redmond spoke to Athletics Ireland President Brid Golden (Ferrybank AC), Dr Noel Richardson of Kilkenny City Harriers and SETU and KCLR's Dermot Keyes, who interviewed Ronnie Delany following the publication of his autobiography 'Staying The Distance' in 2006.
