S5 Ep 980Ep. 980 Giacomo Neri Pt. 2 | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 980, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today she continues her visit to the beautiful, family-run Winery, Casanova di Neri in Montalcino, Tuscany, tasting wines with owner Giacomo Neri - listen in as they talk about the winemaking, the labels, the terroir as well as their recent 50th-anniversary celebrations! This is a 2-part interview. Today's interview is Part 2 of 2 More about Casanova di Neri Winery: "We were amazed when we discovered that the letters of CASANOVA DI NERI, the name Giovanni Neri gave the company in 1971, could be rearranged to form a number of Italian sentences that embody some of our deepest held beliefs about wine and winemaking. Could these be ‘messages in a bottle’, sent by our nonno to guide us even when he was no longer around? We’ll never know, but it’s a nice thought! Here, then, is our winemaking credo, summed up in seven anagrams. We believe that success is all about playing the long game. The company founder, Giovanni Neri, was a visionary who understood, well before it became a dogma, that planting the right grapes in the right vineyards was the key to creating great Brunellos. We have continued his legacy, fully aware that the decisions we make today will have an impact on our grandchildren and their grandchildren." I recently returned to bartending after a stretch of years teaching then followed by having two children. Bartending in the food/wine industry offered the chance to re-enter the work world in the evenings while allowing time to be with children in the day. The opportunity to work with wine again sparked a curiosity and an itch to learn more and more about it. Although I intended bartending to be a stop-gap measure of a job until I could return to full-time classroom teaching, the realization occurred that the food and wine industry is a pursuit where complete satisfaction could be gained by pouring wine and making people incredibly happy. Thoughts of starting to build a new career in wine began to percolate. When people look back on their lives, one common regret is not having done the things we wish we had. And with a window of a handful of years until I had planned to return to the teaching profession, the decision to change course and take a leap into the wine world was joyfully made.” If you want to learn more visit: linkedin.com/in/peggy-baudon-dipwset-b6aa84199 Let's keep in touch! If you want to learn more about today’s guest host, you can by visiting: Instagram @ndorser Twitter @noell LinkedIn Noell Dorsey About today’s guest producer: Mario Zannuso My name is Mario Zanusso, and in 1995 together with my father Ferdinando we started producing natural wines under the name "i Clivi" from 12 hectares of the very best vinegrowing land in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, situated in Brazzano di Cormons, in the Collio D.O.C. district, and Corno di Rosazzo, in the Colli Orientali D.O.C. district. All are very old vineyards on steep hillside slopes (in fact "i Clivi” means “slopes”). My background education is Economics, so I had no specific formation as an enologist, neither did my dad. We learned by studying, by traveling, by exchanging experiences with other producers and mostly by doing. My dad passed in 2020 so today I’m by myself, and overall production is now around 100,000 bottles a year, mostly white wine. Since the beginning our recipe for quality has been very simple: (1) very old vines - at least 60 years of age, but many are 80 or over - for natural concentration, complexity and elegance as well as marked individuality and strong character; (2) certified organic cultivation in the vineyard and "spontaneous" vinification - i. e. no chemicals, no inoculations nor machines - in the cellar for absolute integrity; and (3) maturing for several months in stainless steel and cement vats before these slow-developing, long-lasting but "light" wines were offered for sale. S5 Ep 969Ep. 969 Giacomo Neri Pt. 1 | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 969, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today she is at the beautiful, family run Winery, Casanova di Neri in Montalcino, Tuscany, chatting with owner Giacomo Neri - listen in as they talk about the winemaking, the labels, the terroir as well as their recent 50th anniversary celebrations! This is a 2-part interview. Today's interview is Part 1 of 2 More about Casanova di Neri Winery: "We were amazed when we discovered that the letters of CASANOVA DI NERI, the name Giovanni Neri gave the company in 1971, could be rearranged to form a number of Italian sentences that embody some of our deepest held beliefs about wine and winemaking. We have continued his legacy, fully aware that the decisions we make today will have an impact on our grandchildren and their grandchildren." S5 Ep 964Ep. 964 Ellen Jakobsmeier Interviews Chiara Innocenti | Clubhouse Ambassador's Corner

About about today’s guest host: Ellen Jakobsmeier is a Canadian-born export director at Genuine Wines, based in Sancerre, France. Her start in the wine industry began with three years of traveling and making wine in McLaren Vale Australia, and Marlborough New Zealand. Ellen returned to her hometown of Toronto Canada for sommelier studies, and received her certifications with the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, and enrolled as a WSET Diploma student. She worked in Toronto’s fine dining restaurants for a number of years where her deep passion for Italian wines developed. Her next chapter of formal education took her to Dijon, to commence her studies at the Burgundy School of Business where she received her Masters degree in Wine Business. Since graduation, Ellen has been working with a group of Italian family-owned wineries in the France import and international export markets for the past five years. She admits that actually, her work has not changed that much: she spend hours in front of the computer trying to get the figures to work out and with the telephone ringing continuously, let alone calculating the numbers for planning vintage after vintage; but she affirms there is really nothing quite as rewarding as committing yourself to the production of your own product.” If you want to learn more about today’s guest producer, you can by visiting: Facebook TuniaWines Twitter TuniaWines More about the moderator Stevie Kim: Stevie hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! Shortly thereafter, the first home distributions also started, which took place with a simple cart pulled by a horse. In the following years, his son Gastone transformed the winery business into a commercial company. He immediately joined wine with drinks, specializing in the trade of grappa, vermouth, chinati, French liqueurs and Marsala which were among the most popular products at the time. S5 Ep 961Ep. 961 Riccardo Ricci Curbastro | Get US Market Ready With Italian Wine People

Welcome to Episode 961 Steve Raye interviews Riccardo Ricci Curbastro in this installment of Get US Market Ready With Italian Wine People on the Italian Wine Podcast. About today’s guest: Eighteen generations of Ricci Curbastro have led, starting with Pietro, born in 1380, farms in Romagna and Lombardy. These centuries-old traditions are now represented by the Rontana estate in Brisighella (RA) and the Ricci Curbastro estate in Franciacorta. The latter produced bottled wines as early as the 1800s, as evidenced by labels from 1885 still preserved today. It was transformed by Gualberto Ricci Curbastro into a modern wine company since 1967, when the D.O.C. Franciacorta, of which he was one of the eleven founders, was created. Of the 32 hectares of company surface, 28 are invested in vineyards and another 1,2 hectares are planned for 2021. The company practices organic farming as a natural continuation of the various environmental impact reduction practices that began in 1980, forty years ago. Since 2017 it has been among the first nine companies in Italy, first in Lombardy, certified as a “Sustainable Company” according to the Equalitas standard for its commitment in environmental, economic and social terms. The cellar where the fermentations and slow maturation of the Franciacorta DOCG are carried out is built underground in a vast secular park. The vinification is followed by the oenologists Andrea Rudelli, Annalisa Massetti and Riccardo Ricci Curbastro, a mix of experiences for wines intended for the increasingly demanding palates of consumers all over the world. The company’s production is well represented not only by the Franciacorta DOCG but also by the Curtefranca DOC and Sebino IGT wines. The Agricultural and Wine Museum is located inside the farmhouses of the Ricci Curbastro estate, a unique reality in Franciacorta that preserves thousands of objects that talk about the agricultural work of the past. Inaugurated in 1986, it is the result of meticulous research that began more than thirty years earlier by Gualberto Ricci Curbastro. Four rooms, divided into themes that can be visited upon reservation in order to be able to accompany you and tell you about our past and today work. You can find out more about this guest by visiting: www.riccicurbastro.it/ More about the host Steve Raye: Steve Raye of Bevology Inc originally joined our weekly lineup with narrations from his book “How to get US Market Ready” - but everyone just loved him so much, we brought him back with this series of interviews that informs and inspires! S5 Ep 959Ep. 959 Gianpiero Bertolini | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 959, another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today Stevie is interviewing Giampiero Bertolini of the Biondi Santi Group. More about the winery: Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most famous wines in Italy, and it is synonymous with the Biondi Santi family. The first recorded mention of Brunello was in 1869, when Clemente Santi won two silver medals for his “vino rosso scelto (Brunello) del 1865” at Montepulciano’s agricultural fair. His grandson Ferruccio inherited Clemente’s estates. Although there were other local families producing Brunello at the end of the 1800's, most stopped during the early 20th century and post World War II. Biondi Santi is the only winery that has continuously produced Brunello. Now in the 7th generation of winemakers, the Biondi-Santi family continues to produce great wines. Located in the heart of Montalcino, the Tenuta Greppo estate sprawls over 25 hectares of vines on soils rich in heavy stones and marl. S5 Ep 947Ep. 947 Giovannella Stianti Mascheroni | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 947 - another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today's episode is a continuation of Stevie's visit to the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, in Italy's wine heartland. Listen in as Stevie continues her conversation with Giovanna Stianti Mascheroni and her daughter Federica Mascheroni Stianti. They talk about the winery, the vineyards and taste some wines! This is a 2 part interview. Today's interview is Part 2 of 2 More about Fattoria Castello di Volpaia Winery: The first documents that mention Volpaia date back to 1172, where today wines are produced using organic farming. Already included among the three best wines in the world by Wine Spectator Volpaia is known all over the world for the uniqueness of its cellars hidden in the walls of the ancient fortified village. Volpaia has villas, apartments and rooms for rent, organizes cooking schools and tastings. "The Volpaia area is a unique terroir in the Chianti Classico area. The vineyards around 45 hectares are over 400 m. above sea level. on predominantly sandstone soils rich in skeleton suitable for the production of elegant and long-lived reds, harmonious and aristocratic wines that manage to maintain the fruity aromas of the best Sangiovese for a long time. Typical wines of the so-called "Alto Chianti" and easily recognizable for the composite elegance of their bouquet referable not only to the microclimate of the area, but also to the very particular clonal selection carried out by the farm which led to the rediscovery and re-grafting of ancient autochthonous Sangiovese strains. This long process has led to the creation of 3 Crus: Coltassala, Il Puro and Balifico, each with its own distinctive features." Find out more about the winery by visiting: volpaia.com/#il_borgo More about the host Stevie Kim: Stevie hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! S5 Ep 932Ep. 932 Giovannella Stianti Mascheroni | On The Road With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 932 - another installment of 'On The Road Edition', hosted by Stevie Kim. Today's episode is set in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, in Italy's wine heartland. Stevie Kim visits the town and spends some time interviewing Giovanna Stianti Mascheroni and her daughter Federica Mascheroni Stianti. They talk about the winery, the vineyards and taste some wines! This is a 2 part interview. Today's interview is Part 1 of 2 More about Fattoria Castello di Volpaia Winery: The first documents that mention Volpaia date back to 1172, where today wines are produced using organic farming. This long process has led to the creation of 3 Crus: Coltassala, Il Puro and Balifico, each with its own distinctive features."
