Adam Wilson is the author of Tactical Reload: Strategy Shifts for Emerging Leaders in Law Enforcement, and host of Tip of the Spear Podcast. Wilson is a highly decorated police veteran with more than 15 years on the job. He’s best known as the voice of the millennial generation of police. In early 2020, Wilson wrote an article for NewsMax titled, “Virginia’s Proposed Gun Laws Are Unconstitutional and Immoral.” Shortly after writing the article, Wilson sat down for this LIVE interview with Gun Freedom Radio at the 2020 SHOT Show, where he reaffirmed that if ordered, as a law enforcement officer, to confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens his response would be: “No, I would not enforce it. While I love my job, I have always said that if I am asked to do something that compromises my principals and beliefs, then I would find another way to serve. I refuse to become the tool of a corrupt government. Let me say that again; I refuse to become a corrupt government tool. Not only do I believe the acts in Virginia are unconstitutional, but also immoral.”

In this fascinating interview, we chat with Chelsy Lyons, who is an ethnographic researcher exploring the culture of American gun ownership and activism. Chelsy’s current project, My Multicultural Gun: Identity Politics and the Sovereign Individual in American Culture seeks to uncover the real stories of guns in America that gets left out of mainstream media narratives. One of the interesting findings from Chelsy's research is that the term "Gun Culture" is a misnomer. A a singular and cohesive "Culture" around firearms-ownership does not exist in the US. She has found that we, rather, are unique individuals who share the trait of owning firearms, but for vastly different reasons.

Quickly becoming one of our favorite traditions at SHOT Show is our annual chat with Larry Zanoff! And our conversation at SHOT Shot 2020 did not disappoint! Larry Zanoff is the co-host of Hollywood Weapons: Fact or Fiction? on the Outdoor Channel. The exciting Season 4 is among the topics we discussed. At the 2020 SHOT Show, the Founder and Creative Director of Girls With Guns, Jen O'Hara and Norissa Harman sit down to talk about their business, their personal history, and their values. These two ladies are the co-founders of the GWG Brand, and they are best friends. Together they have build a clothing line and a video series, GWGTV, that focuses on engaging and empowering women and educating youth. Bill Romanelli is a spokesperson on behalf of the NSSF National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Project ChildSafe Program, where he works with firearm manufacturers, law enforcement, conservation groups and gun owners to emphasize the sporting community’s commitment to safety and responsibility, and to promote storing firearms securely when not in use. In his work with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and in particular, NSSF’s Project ChildSafe program, he helps show how the hunting and shooting sports community, together with firearms industry, is leading the way on genuine gun safety across the US. NSSF Project Childsafe Project ChildSafe is a real solution to making our communities safer. At the 2020 SHOT Show, NSSF unveiled a program called, "Real Solutions, Safer Communities." Background: Within the broader gun debate, and certainly in the wake of horrifying events that make national news, there have been well-publicized calls for the firearm industry to take various actions on gun safety. These calls are often made without the benefit of real dialogue with the firearms industry, and that is something the industry wants to change. For too long the debate has been over extreme positions, assigning blame where it doesn’t belong, and about what’s not being done instead of looking at where we can make greater investments in approaches that genuinely advance the common good. People want to know what the industry is doing, and is willing to do. The industry agrees there’s room for more discussion and new ideas, and very much wants to have a seat at the table as solutions are being discussed. The goal is more dialogue on meaningful approaches, today and in the future, that advance gun safety and still preserve all Americans’ rights. At the same time, many of the actions being requested of the firearms industry, are in fact already being implemented, for decades in some cases. The industry remains fully committed to them, because they genuinely help save lives, protect the safety of our communities and prevent criminals from getting guns. Making sure the public understands these efforts is the purpose of the Real Solutions. Safer Communitiessm initiative. The Programs: Project ChildSafe (launched in 1999): A nationwide effort that aims to help prevent firearms accidents, thefts and misuse by providing free information and gun locks to communities. To date, more than 38 million free gun locks have been distributed. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy (launched in 2000): A national campaign to prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, which publicizes that anyone attempting an illegal firearm purchase faces a federal penalty: Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 10 years in jail. FixNICS (launched in 2013): to help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and prevent anyone who cannot legally have a gun from getting one, the firearms industry has led the way in improving the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and has worked to improve laws at the federal level and in 16 states. The result: A 220% increase in the number of disqualifying records in the system. Suicide Prevention (launched in 2016): A Suicide Prevention toolkit to help firearms retailers, shooting range operators and customers understand risk factors and warning signs related to suicide, know where to find help and encourage secure firearms storage options. Operation Secure Store (launched in 2017): A joint initiative to help Federal Firearms Licensees improve security and help prevent robberies A Few Stats that May Surprise People Gun violence is actually decreasing in the United States Suicides account for the greatest number of gun deaths (nearly two-thirds) in America today Fatal firearms accidents are at historic lows, and today represent less than one half of one percent of all fatal accidents nationwide.

Tony Simon - owner of Simon Says Train and The 2nd is For Everyone: Diversity Shoot (2A4E). Tony is from rural Virginia where firearms were considered a tool for defense, hunting and entertainment. He served in the Marine Corps and moved to New Jersey after his enlistment and realized that in NJ here exists a totally different attitude about firearms. After the Sandy Hook tragedy the extreme anti gun legislation in New Jersey motivated Tony to get involved in the 2A movement. In 2015 he started “The 2nd is For Everyone: Diversity Shoot. This program has grown since the first event from 6 attendees to having trained HUNDREDS of people from every possible demographic. Tony has worked with some of the Industry's biggest names who have enthusiastically helped to grow this #2A4E effort, exemplifying the inclusive spirit that runs strong in the Second Amendment Community. Marcus Allen Weldon – author of the book, titled “Surviving the System: The Story of the Santa Shooter.” Marcus writes about an incident which occurred in Detroit, MI in which he was protecting his own life, and also the life of a young woman who was being physically assaulted by two men at a gas station. Marcus’ story is a cautionary tale for all firearm owners. For taking this life-saving action he faced seven felonies and could have served a maximum sentence of 30 years, a minimum of 16 years. We are excited to be talking to him as a free man with all charges defeated.

What are they, and who would think these are a good idea for America. #2) Recently our mutual friend, Dianna Muller, founder of The DC Project, and 22 year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department testified at the House Judiciary Committee Hearing on the “Assault Weapons Ban”…she famously stated at that Hearing that she would not comply…a former law enforcement officer…would not comply with an “Assault Weapons Ban”…can you talk to us about why she, and millions of other law-abiding American Citizens, would hold such a view? #3) The Anti-Rights crowd loves to say that 98% of Americans – including gun owners – agree that we need Universal Background Checks. Yet, when I talk to people around the nation, I definitely do not get a sense that people want the government looking deeper into their personal lives, and keeping more detailed records about their Social Media history and medical records – whether you are a gun owner or not. So, how do we jive those two things? Could it be that people don’t really understand what a Universal Background Check really is and what it entails? #4) Until I was prepping for our interview today I hadn’t even heard the name Chuck Canterbury, so I have to assume that most Americans haven’t either. Turns out he has been nominated for the head position at the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF)…but there are many Republicans and many gun owners who oppose his nomination. What can you tell us about all of that? #5)The FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2018 is out today. Looks like murder was down by about 7% from 2017. Chris is a husband, father, grandfather, former tech business owner, life long firearm owner and current owner of CloverTac Productions, a pro firearm media company based out of Texas. Topics: Chris' passion for youth shooting sports and instilling the skills and values in his own, now adult, children and scores of other young people. Texas Legislative issues and the broader context they have for the nation. Chris also spoke about his #fuddlyfe project of which is says, "sorta speaks to what we should and should not be doing when it comes to representing the community. The #FuddLyfe Project is an effort in outreach and to further meaningful, productive communication with firearm owners that may be ignorant of certain anti Second Amendment legislation and the effects they can have on the firearm community at large. To first understand who we must attempt to reach through the #FuddLyfe Project we first have to explore the word “fudd”. If we take a look and examine the root of the word “fudd”, we find that the root is actually slang and of Scottish heritage. The word “fud”, yes only one d, was attached to someone who, through ignorance, continued to do something harmful or dangerous even though said action might appear to be obviously harmful or dangerous to most around them. Now fast forward to the golden era of cartoon and enter Elmer Fudd. Nowadays he is synonymous with the word “fudd” as it is and has been applied to firearm owners and rightfully so, but not in the way you might think or have been lead to believe. It is quite obvious if you have spent any time watching these cartoons that old Elmer fits the exact, original, root word definition of “fud”. He continues to do things dangerous or harmful out of sheer ignorance, oblivious to the consequences despite those who view the cartoon knowing full well what the outcome of those actions will be. What does this mean? Well, we think it is quite simple. In regards to the firearm community, a “fudd” is someone that needs education, information, inspiration and motivation. As a community we should be somewhat patient and understand that no one was ever born a Second Amendment activist or champion, it is a process. Let us not confuse those who may indeed be “fudds” with those who are actively engaged in acts against the Second Amendment. The later are anti gunners, plain and simple. Deliberate acts and acts of ignorance are two totally different constructs. Now that we know how to properly identify those we need to reach. Arm yourself with knowledge, look for those lost in ignorance, those with whom you can relate and identify and work to impart that Second Amendment wisdom onto them. Once you are successful, charge them with the same task. Together we can repair the decades of damage that has been done to our rights through outreach and education, not improper name calling.

Founder of The DC Project, Dianna Muller, shared an update on what is happening with her non-profit, grassroots effort, that is an educational, nonpartisan initiative that brings 50 women, one from each state, to Washington, DC, to establish relationships with their legislators and reveal the faces and stories of firearms owners and 2nd Amendment supporters. The DC Project will be holding their very first Fund-Raiser Reception in conjunction with the 2019 Gun Rights Policy Conference in AZ on 8.19.19 at AZFirearms in Avondale, AZ. At a time when many people are trying to scare the public away from supporting the NRA, we sat down with Gina Roberts, who wants to support the NRA by running for a position on the Board of Directors. We also spoke about the dangerous precedent set by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors that has passed a resolution declaring the National Rifle Association a “domestic terrorist organization” and urged the federal government to do the same. Additionally, we discussed Red Flag Laws, ERPOs, and Universal Background Checks.
