(AUDIBLOG) The Statue of Liberty Represents the Land of Opportunity - Not the Land of Government Handouts
Hey everyone! We're out of town for the week, but here's the audio version of an article from our website. The Statue of Liberty stands for Opportunity, and a Hand-Up | Not a guaranteed Hand-Out " Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door " - Emma Lazarus This poem, as wonderful as it is, has taken on a new meaning; applied by those on the left that wish to help those in need, by way of higher taxes, and increased wealth redistribution. The new meaning goes something like this: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I will make sure that they are well taken care of by way of increased taxation on the most productive in our society." An NPR host called the original poem the "American Ethos." Although she was referring to the original poem, her meaning was implied in my sarcastic revision. So what does the Statue of Liberty stand for? The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France (mostly) to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of our independence from Great Britain. I think the most important thing to note in the dedication of the statue was that it celebrated a time that we broke off from a tyrannical Kingdom that was taxing the people to death. "Taxation without representation" was one of the leading rally cries of the American colonies. Another very important thing to remember is that at the time of the statues dedication, there was no income tax in America. There was no welfare system. Trump Gets Tough on China | The Values of a Trade War

Why don't Socialists put their own money where their mouth is?

I'm all for successful people buying the lavish things that they want, but is it the same when it's someone who spends their time talking negatively about others that do the same? Leonardo Dicaprio has put $5 million into a fund to help combat the wildfires in the Amazon Rainforest. This is a great example of those on the ideological left practicing what they preach. If only all of them did it, we might be living in a completely different society. Speaking of famous actors, why is it that when we hear of an actor like George Clooney making $235 million in 2018, we don't look at it in the same negative light as say the CEO of Walmart? Why is it when Taylor Swift makes a million dollars at a show, we don't compare her hourly wage to those that setup the stage lights or the sound? Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal" is full of economic impossibilities | Should the Death Penalty stay on the table?
Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. Today on the show we talked about a murder trial from the '90's down in Texas that end with an execution last week. Needless to say, the prosecution brought questionable evidence, and the convicted murderer spoke of his innocence until his final words. If the government is inefficient, corrupt, and all to powerful, should we still allow the death penalty? We try to answer this difficult question on the first half of the podcast. Bernie Sanders' "Green New Deal" Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders released his plan for a $16.3 trillion spending package dubbed the "Green New Deal," blatantly stealing the name of the massive plan laid out earlier in the year by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I spent several hours running through this plan line by line today, and arrived at a pretty simple conclusion: If you care about the environment, if you care about the poor, if you care about innovation, or the economic stability of the country, then you must consider the argument that the government is the worst possible entity to accomplish those goals. Bernie's plan calls for a complete replacement of: The power grid all automobiles all school buses all shipping vehicles (semis) all gas stations and nearly all roads It also promises to create 20 million new "high-paying" jobs, and eliminate unemployment. In the elimination of unemployment, it suggests that the need for a welfare state will dissipate, since everyone will have a high paying job. Of course, that's a high-paying job paid for with tax dollars, something that will first have to be stolen from the economy. Let me be clear. It is probably a bad thing to remove carbon from the ground, and place it into the air. Im not refuting that suggestion, but I will question the idea that we are nearing a "climate catastrophe." I'll also question the idea that this is purely man-made (can we call sexism on that term?), and that anything the United States does can have any effect on the situation. This plan seizes control of the entire energy sector, and promises to remove "greed" from the equation by leaving all power to be supplied by publicly owned companies. If Bernie has a room full of angels waiting to take the reins, I suggest he disperse them elsewhere immediately. This comes down to one question: Who is more effective at innovation, and efficiency- private entities, or the government? I could use the example of NASA vs. SpaceX. Through 60 years of innovation, NASA was able to get the cost of sending a satellite to space down to $600 million. To ad to that fact, they were producing new rockets with each launch. In 10 years, Elon Musk and SpaceX were able to reduce the cost of sending things into space down to $60 million. A tenth of the price if you don't have your calculator handy. In addition to that, they developed a way to fly the rockets back to the launch pad to save money. That wasn't enough.. They then produced a drone ship that would become a mobile landing pad for the rockets, since due to the arch of the launch and the rotation of the earth the rocket would be re-entering over water, and boat fuel is cheaper than rocket fuel. Think what you may about profit, but the motive for profit saves us money. Take into consideration the fact that in the Russians heyday, an automobile cost 3x as much to produce in the Soviet Union, even though profit was illegal. Remember, Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile. Here's Why the Tump Tax Cuts Might Not be Having the "Desired Effect." | Minimum Wage Strikes Again
Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. I've read a few articles lately about how the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" of 2017 isn't having the desired effect. First, I'd ague that they have had a great effect on the economy, but let's dissect why they aren't looking as good in action as they did on paper. The Trump tax cuts were a big win for big corporations, as well as a big win for all the small corporations that we seem to ignore. The corporate tax rate was reduced from 35% to 22.5%, equaling a reduction of roughly 33% in the tax rate owed by businesses. Republicans branded this tax cut as a major win for America. It was going to lead to higher wages, more jobs, and the repatriation of funds and operations back to the good ole U.S. of A. Since the enactment of this law, we've seen reports of 3.5% GDP growth, but as we normally see afterwards, a revised number that sits around 2.8%. In addition to that, wages paid by companies seem to have shown little movement in the process. To me, this logic is simple. If you want to actually see the effects that were advertised by Republican's in the passage of this law, the tax cuts have to be made permanent. Imagine you are the owner of a business. You run on roughly an 8% net profit margin yearly (the average for a Fortune 500 company), and now you've seen a 33% reduction in your corporate tax rate. You have a few options: Raise your employees wages, Re-invest money in future innovation, or take the profit and run, among other things. There's an issue with expecting businesses to raise their wages in response to these cuts; they are temporary. How many times have you expected your wage to go down after your company's profit margin decreased? Probably never. How many times have you expected your pay to go up if the profit margins increased? Probably always. What the big corporations did was a mixture of those previous three options from above. Many corporations did raise wages in response to the tax cuts. Walmart comes to mind, who raised their minimum wage to $11 an hour for all employees. The bulk of the increased compensation came from bonuses paid to employees. Why would a business opt for a bonus, instead of a raise in their employee's wages? Simple. Yes they have the money for the increased wages now, but they know the tax cuts aren't going to last, and we all know that employees aren't going to be okay with a reduction in their wages when future President Kamala Harris raises the corporate tax rate to 70%. Therefore, they give out a bonus, en lieu of a pay raise. In addition to the missed increase in wages, we've also seen less "repatriation" and less increases in business investment. Why wouldn't the corporations opt for more repatriation and more investment? Once again, the answer is simple. Contrary to popular opinion, people who run businesses are pretty smart. They hear the rhetoric spewed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Etc. It takes years to open a new facility, repatriate money, move plants, or any of the things people are waiting for them to do. If your time horizon is more than five years, would you trust that the business climate will be the same in five years as it is right now? No If you want these corporations to actually make investments in the U.S., to actually raise wages, or actually move their offshore accounts back to Bank of America, then you need to make the tax cuts permanent. ANTIFA are Domestic Terrorists | Fighting Violent Fascism with Violent Communism
Hey everyone! First off, please subscribe to the show by clicking this link. Today we discussed this weekend's clash between members of ANTIFA and member of the "Proud Boys." Antifa claims to stand against Fascism, but they stand against that fascism with the use of violent Communism. Throughout history, neither of those ideologies have been beneficial for the ordinary individual. It's time for law enforcement in Portland, OR to step up and arrest these people. We fully support your right to protest, but if you are removing rights from others, then you need to be subjected to the full extend of the law. If government has one job, it's to make sure that we are all safe, and it's clear innocent bystanders in Portland are not safe. We also discussed our local high school back home in Illinois, and their decision to subject students to random drug screenings. The administration of Vienna High School has announced plans to conduct randomized drug screenings on their student body. The plan will assign a number to each student, and randomly draw numbers throughout the year. Let me first say that we absolutely agree that teenagers should not be doing drugs, and we appreciate the intent behind this new policy. However, these drug screenings should not be mandatory. Meaning, the students' parents should have the right to opt their children out of the program. As of right now, "consent" will be considered as participation in extra-curricular activities, or driving your own vehicle to school. The implied consent by participation in extra-curricular activities is closer to agreeable in my book, being that it is your choice to join or not join those activities. On the contrast, implied consent by way of "you drive your car to school" is further out of bounds, considering the fact that you are faced to attend the school. Were this a private school implementing the policy, I would be 100% on board, since you chose to attend that school. There's a fine line being treaded with this policy. On one hand, it's morally defendable that this policy be included in your child's schooling, but on the other, it's removing your right as a parent to consent to your child being swabbed, or to their urine being collected by school officials. To me, it's not obvious that this policy will have the desired effect. When I was in high school, it was considered "cool" to break the rules. Any seemingly arbitrary rule was a target for rebellion among the students. Your "cool" points were likely to go up if you found ways around them, potentially leading to a higher social status. Sometimes, we broke rules that we would have not otherwise broken, if they weren't rules. I would be slightly worried of an adverse effect from this new policy. That is, the possibility that students will attempt to break this rule, when they might not otherwise have participated in the dangerous acts in the first place. Responsibility We talk a lot about responsibility on our podcast. In our eyes, the refusal to accept responsibility in all facets of life has lead to the societal situations we see playing out in politics right now. When do the responsibilities of the parents end, and the responsibilities of the schools begin? In my eyes, this is yet another attempt to remove parental responsibilities from parents, and place them on arbitrary rules set by government (the school). If I were a parent, I would sign a consent for if given the opportunity by my child's school. That however does not mean that I believe all the other children should be forced to do so. Democrats wasted no time using the Philadelphia shooting as a baseless call for gun control
Subscribe to the podcast! Today on the show we discuss last nights police shooting in Philadelphia. Six officers were shot in a drug bust gone wrong, and democrats wasted no time using this as a call for gun control. The used it as a call for gun control, even though the police were raiding this guys house because he was selling drugs- something that's been illegal for decades. That's ironic. "We should make guns illegal so this doesn't happen, but yet drugs are illegal and this guy was a known drug dealer." On top of that, he had multiple convictions. Hey folks! Today's podcast episode had to do with the Statue of Liberty. I wanted to talk about this in light of recent discussions on the poem used in front of the statue, and the idea that we are supposed to take care of people in need. Of course we are supposed to take care of people in need, but I think the government taking money from those who have it and giving it to those that don't is very different. At the time the Statue was placed, we did not have a welfare system in the United States, so it literally can't mean that. Illinois is forcing high school seniors to apply for federal student aid | & More "Rand Flag" laws
Illinois doesn't get a lot of things right. Their population is rapidly decreasing, their taxes are rapidly increasing. Their pension is severely underfunded, and they're slowly but surely filling up federal prisons with former governors. Of all the mistakes they routinely make, it's clear they always execute one thing properly: really terrible economic decisions. The new law that takes effect for the 2020-2021 school year fits right in with what seems to be an ongoing theme in Illinois- make prices artificially high. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a new law requiring high school seniors to fill out a FAFSA application before being allowed to graduate high school. That is, they are no required to apply for college financial aid to be able to graduate. Proponents of the law say that this is a great way to encourage students to pursue higher education after high school. My own opinion is that it's a way to encourage students to go into debt, and a great way to keep prices high on college tuition. Why is this a bad thing? The other basic economic incentives this creates are also pretty cut and dry. The more money you make artificially available for a product, they higher price that product will have. Laws like this artificially increase demand, and they make use of money that would not otherwise be available in a free market. In addition, financial aid is not guaranteed to cover the entire cost of college. Therefore, many people who can least afford it, are likely to be going into debt when they otherwise would not have. Republicans are considering more "Red Flag" laws. Who's going to protect your 2nd Amendment rights?
This weekend, I spent some time reading through Senator Marco Rubio's bill to create a Federal "Red Flag" law. The "Threat Assessment, Prevention, and Safety Act of 2019," opens the door to massive intrusion into our natural rights as human beings to defend ourselves; whether it be against a home invader, or (as the founding fathers intended), a tyrannical government. Rubio's bill establishes "a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and multi-jurisdictional behavioral threat assessment and management process on a Federal, State, local, and Tribal level." Here's the idea- We've seen far too many mass-shootings in recent years across the United States. Some of these mass shootings, a very small amount, could have perhaps been prevented. Shooters like the individual in Parkland, and recently the individual in El Paso, showed some signs of potential violent threats on innocent members of the public. The aim of a "Red Flag" law is to take these possibilities for violence into consideration, and consider confiscating all firearms from those individuals, or ban them from purchasing any firearms for an indefinite future. Hannity made De Blasio put Socialism on display last night | Here are 6 of his flawed ideas
Last night New York Mayor Bill De Blasio did an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. There aren't many ways to describe it, other than this- It was absolutely disgusting. De Blasio defended his plans for gun control, higher taxes, "meatless Mondays," and battling climate change. Here are the notes from our podcast episode. Gun Rights It's pretty clear that De Blasio does not think you have a right to defend yourself. Hannity pressed him several times on that issue, and he had a tough time answering the question. What he did say is that you have a right to be "safe." What does it mean to have a right to be "safe?" This is absolutely no knock on law enforcement, but they rarely keep you safe from home invasions. Actually, it would be near impossible for them to do so. The simple question needs to be asked.. If someone breaks into your house, do you have the right to defend yourself? De Blasio's answer on this question is an obvious "no." CEO Pay The "left" often uses CEO pay when talking about the failures of our free market system. What is the point in making this comparison? "The CEO makes 1-2-400X more than the average worker." The point of this statement is to insinuate that people are struggling in todays society because of Greed. If the CEO wasn't making so much money, the workers at the company would be able to be paid more, right? Wrong. Let's take one of the most hated CEO's in the world, Doug McMillon (WALMART), for example. He makes $22 million per year. Workers at Walmart start out at $11 per hour. Walmart has 2.2 million employees. Each employee is paying $10 per year to the CEO. In hours? That's roughly $.01 per hour worked (at 25 hours per week on average). So what if we decide to pay the CEO the same as everyone else in the company? If they are all at $11 per hour, evening out the payment between everyone would raise their pay to...wait for it...$11.01 per hour. CEO pay is a non-issue, no matter how unfair it may seem. It is absolutely not a factor when discussing the pay of the average employees. We need to go back to the 1950's tax rates Ah, the good ole days. It is true that in the 1950's, the top marginal tax rate was 91%. That rate was on income above the $200,000 mark ($2 Million in todays money). The catch? Only 10,000 households qualified for that tax. In the 1950's, the effective tax rate was actually only 42%. Today it's 37%, with a MUCH lower marginal rate. Meaning that the top tax rate does not matter. Most of the rich are rich because they are smart. They'll find a way to get around it. They are smarter than the government, a low bar, indeed. The "rich" 1% are still paying nearly half of all the taxes in the US. Yes, even though they only account for 1% of the workers, they pay half the taxes. That number, by the way, has gone up- not down, since the lowering of the tax rates. "You didn't build that." Perhaps the most infuriating part of De Blasio's interview with Hannity came at the 16:00 mark, when he stated that the workers are the ones that created the wealth, not the business owner. This is pure socialism, and it's absolutely wrong. If you'd like, trace back the origins of any business. Did it start by 600,000 people banding together, pooling their resources, to form Amazon.com? No, it started with Jeff Bezos packing books into boxes on his floor in his house. The workers have a job because the owner started the business. Risked the capital. Put in 100 hours a week for years on end while only losing money in the process. After suffering through 31 minutes of the interview, we pinpointed 9 grossly manipulative statistics commonly spewed by B.S. 1. "Healthcare is a yuman right" People need proper healthcare, don't get us wrong. With that in mind, can you say that healthcare is a "right?" What does it mean to have a right to something? You have a right to life, right? But that only means that you have a right to not have that life taken from you by an outside actor. The right to life does not mean that you have the right to force a doctor to perform a service for you. You would think that the right to life would mean that you also have a right to food(considering 100% of the population would die without food). Do you have a right to food? No. Don't believe me? Try going into your local grocery store, filling up your cart, and then leaving. Better yet, go to your local farmers land, and pick any amount of food you need. Then leave. You have the right to not be killed, but you do not have the right to force a service provider to perform a service for you. It is a basic principle that you cannot have a "right" to someone else time. That's called slavery. 2. "Canada's healthcare costs are half as much as the United States" It is true that their total "costs" reported per capita is half. But what is behind the costs that are reported? In the US it is common place to receive a bill for $25,000 from just the surgeon on a medical procedure. Who pays that $25k? No one. In reality, the hospital or the surgeon are going to write a large portion of that expense off. If it isn't written off, they must have received a payment from the insurance company, but the insurance has a "contractual adjustment" on that bill- meaning they don't pay the full amount. The problem? That $25k is the price used in Bernie's statistic. In reality, total out of pocket costs for healthcare in 2017 was $318 billion. Far less than the $3.5 trillion statistic used by do-gooder politicians. Healthcare is too expensive, but experience has shown us that US government is not the entity to resort to if you want to decrease the cost of something. 3. His fight is stifled because lobbyists for drug companies are spreading misinformation. No. The bulk of people disagree with Bernie's plan because we all have access to a calculator on our phones. 4. Costs are up because of profit- last year the top 10 drug companies made $69 billion. Blaming "profit" for higher costs is a long-time go to for socialists/marxists. "Bloodsuckers, vampires, plunderers of the people and profiteers who fatten on famine." Vladamir Lenin prior to killing upwards of one million "Kulaks" in 1920's Russia. The $69 billion in profit made by the drug companies sounds like a lot of money, and it is, but it is absolutely nothing in relation to the cost of healthcare. If you were going to use the $3.5 trillion number used by Bernie sanders, then the profit of the drug companies represents .00001 of the cost in healthcare. 1/10,000th of the cost. Literally Elizabeth Warren is more Native American than drug companies' profit is a portion of healthcare costs. That's $197 for each person in the US last year. People are not struggling because the drug companies made $197 in profit from their drugs. In relation, you probably pay $130 per year just for Netflix. 5. Medicare has been a success, and people love it. The Gender Pay Gap Myth | We separate fact from fiction regarding the "80 cents on the dollar" statistic
The Gender Pay Gap During the debate, the question about how we address the perceived gap in wages between men and women went to Kamala Harris. She went on to state the statistic that we've all heard before, and that we've likely seen discredited several times. "Women are paid $.80 on the dollar. Black women $.61, Native American women $.58, Latina women $.53. These are common statistics used by many on the left to show that discrimination by men is alive and well in the United States. The only problem is - they are completely misrepresented statistics. Let me be clear, I am not arguing that on the whole women are making the same money as men. In fact, if you look at those numbers speaking on total earnings by men, and total earnings by women, they are probably true. The problem is that those statistics are being used by politicians to make the case that men are still dominantly discriminating against their female counterparts. In truth, that isn't what those statistics show at all. What those statistics show is that when one gender tends to gravitate towards lower paying fields, that gender will be correctly represented as making a lower amount of money. That statement my be inconvenient, but it is not evidence that our society is a male dominated discriminatory patriarchy. It is evidence that if more women go into lower paying fields such as teaching or social work, and more men go into fields like Information Technology or Engineering, men are likely to have higher average earnings. Differences in career choices To take an honest look at whether or not discrimination is a remaining factor, we must first separate the variables in the equation. One of those variables is career choice. It is not enough to simply say "women make less than men" without considering the different occupations each of the respective genders gravitate towards. Would it make sense to say that "Social Workers make less than Chemical Engineers, therefore we have evidence that there is rampant gender discrimination in the US..?" No, it sure wouldn't, yet that's what politicians are basically saying. I'm not saying that women don't go into engineering, and men don't go into social work, but the data are certainly clear that there are differences in the career choices made by each gender by en-large. Tennessee mom charged with murder after premature twins die with drugs in their system
Today we discuss our take on this story out of Chattanooga, TN View the full story at this link. A woman has been charged after going into labor prematurely while high on ecstasy. The twins died shortly after birth with drugs in their system. This story highlights the subjective principles in the abortion debate. Tennessee has a law superseding the US Supreme Court when defining "fetus viability." TN defining at 23 weeks, and the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade defining viability at 26 weeks. In addition to the legal standards, we have the moral principle in killing an unborn child. The situation gets muddied up when you realize that if this woman had gone to Planned Parenthood that morning to have an abortion, and then went out to party, she presumably would not be charged with murder - Even though the same end-result would be the case (the death of two unborn children). Rand Paul and Mike Lee were right to delay the 9/11 First Responders Bill
Yesterday Rand Paul and Mike Lee forced a bill delay on the 9/11 First Responders bill. This bill allowed an unlimited amount of funding for 9/11 first responders and their families for the next 72 years. The media, left wing, and right wing, have portrayed this as a blocking of the bill. They have portrayed this as stopping money from going out to the responders themselves. The Problem? That isn't true at all. What Rand Paul did, as he did with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, was force a vote on and amendment adding something called a "Pay For" into the bill. What most people don't know is that originally, there was something called a "Pay-Go" provision in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. That meant that the next step following the tax cuts was to cut spending in the budget to meet a potential reduction in income. Speaking of a reduction in income, the tax revenue as a percentage of the Federal tax receipts has increased since the passage of the tax cut. That's right, they cut taxes and are taking in more money. Rand Paul himself said in an interview with Neil Cavuto, that the 9/11 bill will still come to a vote next week, and it will pass. All he asked was to add an amendment to the bill saying that the money needed to come from another part of the Governments +$4,200,000,000,000 budget. He named ceasing funding for a study that is studying the sex habits of Japanese Quail while high on cocaine. He suggested we cease funding for a study that looks at whether or not you are likely to eat something off of a buffet when you've seen the person in front of you sneeze on the food. I would suggest we look at taking the billions in foreign aid we give to countries like Pakistan, Syria, Jordan, etc., and reallocate that to the 9/11 First Responders Fund. AudiBlog: Want to solve the student debt crisis? Get the government out of student loans.
The student loan debt crisis might be the biggest problem facing our nation in the years to come. The total debt sits around $1.6 trillion right now. Several politicians, including Senator Bernie Sanders, have proposed plans to "cancel" student debt, and make all college tuition free. There are a couple things we need to get out of the way. First off, the government has been involved in the subsidization of student loans since 1958, with the passage of the National Defense Education Act. At that time, the governments involvement was limited to college degrees including science, technology, math, or engineering. It should come as no surprise that it only took 7 years for the feds to decide they needed more than just control over the STEM fields. In 1965, they passed the Higher Education Act. The stated goal of the HEA was to promote "greater social mobility". The HEA has been the doorway to the federal government's full involvement in college education. At that time, they were able to start subsidizing or guaranteeing all student loans. The cost of college began to rise with the involvement of government subsidies, as we've seen in most other industries (look at a graph of medical costs following the passage of Medicare). As you would read in Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, the artificial demand created by government stimulus resulted in a shortage of supply, leading to higher prices. Your high school economics lessons will teach you that creating a virtually unlimited demand will cause higher prices 100% of the time. Although the cost of degrees were already on the rise, the greatest acceleration happened in 2010, when the government completely took over the student loan process with the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act. That title definitely hits the top 10 most "Ironic Congressional Act" titles in my book. It's right up the with the "Affordable Care Act," and "No Child Left Behind." Up to this point, private institutions were still involved in the lending process, but all loans given by private lenders were guaranteed by the US Government. The housing market crisis comes to mind with that last statement. Amazon Prime Day shows the beauty of Capitalism | & News Media hits a new level with it's Tennessee Nathan Bedford Forrest story
It's that time of year again. It's Amazon Prime Day. As a Free-Market Capitalist, you have to rejoice in the fact that this day exists. You can literally buy everything you need on Amazon, and have it delivered to your house in two days. Sometimes, you can have it delivered in as little as two hours. We have to sit back and ask the question, "Why does this exist?" Well, put simply, it exists because someone wanted to make money. Maybe that sounds selfish or greedy, but that's only if you have a negative view of money, itself. Money, as always, is a representation of value that you have provided to others. In a free-market system, that is. If you pay $1 for a cup of coffee, it is only because you value that cup of coffee more than you valued the dollar. On the flip side, the vendor only sold you the coffee because they valued the dollar more than they valued the coffee. As simple as it is, that small example works for all things in a free-market economy. If you hold the above view of money, then you are less likely to look down upon the desire to make money by starting your own business. As long as you are operating in a free economy, you would only be able to make money by providing products or services that the population value. If it wasn't deemed valuable, you would never make the money. So now we arrive back at the fact that someone started Amazon to make money. Good! As a study on the effects of Walmart found, the average American family saves over $2,500 per year simply because Walmart exists, whether they shop at Walmart or not. How? All of the competing retailers and grocery stores must find ways to lower their costs/prices so they remain competitive with Walmart for your business. We see the same thing with Amazon. In our podcast episode, we detail out the amazing fact that today and tomorrow, not only do you have the option to shop at a large discount at Amazon, but Target and Walmart are both running massive online sales to compete with Amazon for your business. This means that Amazon is saving you money, even if you don't have a Prime membership, or shop at Amazon.com for any of your goods. That's the amazing part about Capitalism and the Free-Market. No government issued an order today stating that Amazon must lower their prices, and no regulative body issued an order stating that Walmart and Target must lower their prices to match Amazon. That's the power of a free and competitive market. So who wins in this scenario? Well certainly Jeff Bezos and thousands of other Amazon investors, but also the hundreds of millions of people that use Amazon, Walmart, and Target. The economy as a whole wins because the opportunity to allocate dollars to more efficient uses has now presented itself. The rest of the beauty? You don't have to shop at Amazon today, or tomorrow. You can spend more elsewhere, make your own products, or buy from a local vendor. Amazon is not forcing you to use their services. They want you to use their services, and they are offering you a better quality of life for doing so. The title is obviously outrageous, but if you read through to the end you might get the point. After the US Women's Soccer team won the 2019 FIFA World Cup, a chant of "equal pay" could be heard in the crowd. In addition to the emotionomics chant heard by the crowd, numerous news outlets including Vanity Fair, CNN, VOX, Splinter, and Business Insider led with misleading headlines about viewership in the Women's World Cup vs. the 2018 Men's World Cup. Let's break down the numbers to understand why this is another manufactured, and completely baseless complaint. The basic idea is that the US Women's team is being paid less for the same (or more) viewership as the US Men's soccer team. The official statement was that women's team is making only 40% of what the men's team is paid. Let's talk about viewers "The Women's World Cup ratings top Men's 2018 Championship Game by 22%" Here's the big difference. By big, I mean it is a massive, un-ignorable difference. The 22% win by the Women's team is talking about the viewership in the United States. This year, the Women's Cup garnered almost 15 million TV viewers inside the US. AudiBlog: It might be out of pure hatred for America that Nike would ban the Betsy Ross flag
I'm a little late on this controversy, but if you didn't hear over the Independence Day break, Nike pulled their release of a limited edition sneaker featuring the "Betsy Ross" American flag. You've seen this flag before. Any time I see this one I think of Mel Gibson waving the flag after taking the battlefield at the end of "The Patriot." That scene sticks out in my mind because it's also how I see myself every time I release one of these articles. The Betsy Ross flag was the original flag of the U.S.A. It featured the usual 13 stripes, but had a circle of 13 stars in the corner, both of which represented the original 13 colonies of America. This nearly forgotten antique flag was brought into the spotlight after Collin Kaepernick persuaded Nike to drop their "racist" design before bringing them to market in time for July 4th celebrations across the country. The basic idea being that the flag represented a time in U.S. history when slavery was the norm. There's one major problem with banning the use of Betsy's flag in today's society based on the fact that the U.S. was heavily involved in the slave trade at that time- So was every other major country. I haven't heard many calls to ban the use of Great Britain's flag, Mexico's flag, France's flag, let alone the dozens of other flags still used by nations around the world. Let's discuss Justin Amash, Collin Kaepernick, Nike, & the Constitution
I pledge allegiance to the Republican Party.. Oh wait, that's not it.. Today we talk about Justin Amash and his recent announcement. Mainly we'll discuss some of the insane comments we've seen made by Republicans, and yes, even President Trump. If your number one goal is to protect the constitution and to further individual liberty, how is it a good thing that Amash is no longer a part of your party? He happens to hold a 100% rating from FreedomWorks, and a 94% on the Freedom Index when it comes to voting in accordance with the US Constitution. This puts him well above most Republicans, but maybe that's not what a Republican is anymore. It seems that they are more concerned with allegiance to the party and the President than allegiance to the Constitution. We'll also take on the controversy surrounding NIKE and their recent decision to ban the "Betsy Ross" flag from their shoe designs. Citing "racism" and "slavery" as the reasons for this decision. This is a short history of the "Kulaks." A "Kulak" was the name for a wealthy peasant in 1920's Russia. They were the farmers. Even having an acre or two more, or one more cow, would get you the label of Kulak. When times were rough, Lenin and Stalin pointed the masses to the Kulaks as the reason for all their suffrage. What happened next was the inevitable ending of class warfare. It is the implied logical conclusion that comes from pointing at one class and saying that they are to blame for your problems. Almost a million Kulaks were murdered. Here's how insane this ideology is- The Kulaks were the ones that knew how to grow food. In the famine that followed the destruction of the Kulaks, upwards of six million people starved to death. IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776 The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people. Audiblog: Buying votes is illegal- Unless you're running for president
Read the article at www.goodmorningliberty.us www.bernielies.com I've spent the last few days combing through the Democrats' plans for free college, free healthcare, "freedom dividends," among many other plans that promise to give you money if they were to win. Today, something clicked. It's illegal to buy votes in the United States. There are numerous federal and state level laws that line out the details on various fines associated with offering people money in exchange for their vote. First we'll look at the federal law on vote buying. Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote or the withholding of his vote— Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. (June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 721; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(1)(H), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147; Pub. L. 104–294, title VI, § 601(a)(12), Oct. 11, 1996, 110 Stat. 3498.) Our take on the Young American's for Liberty conference, and why a UBI is not "Freedom"
We spent the weekend at the Young American's for Liberty conference in Memphis, TN. If you haven't heard of them before, check out their website at www.yaliberty.org www.goodmorningliberty.us In the recent Democratic debate we were able to hear presidential candidate Andrew Yang's plan for a "Freedom Dividend," or otherwise known as "Universal Basic Income(UBI)." This is not a new idea. In fact, even one of my favorite economists, Milton Friedman, was in support of a UBI as a replacement for the current welfare system. Yang's proposal would give a direct payment of $1,000 per month to every American above the age of 18. Rich, poor, white, black- it doesn't matter. Everyone above the age of 18 will receive this "Freedom Dividend." The US Government currently spends $668 billion per year on welfare programs. Remember, "welfare" is just one portion of the social safety net. That number also does not take into account what state's spend on welfare; another portion of the equation that is likely to change under a UBI system. The most recent count on the amount of adults in the US above the age of 18, has the number at 247 million. A $1,000 payment to each of them would cost 247 billion per month. That's 2.9 trillion per year to fund the "Freedom Dividend," without the administrative overhead costs. Andrew Yang's UBI is proposed to be covered by a Value-Added Tax (VAT) of 10%. A VAT would be paid by business owners in the production phases of their products. Currently, the US does not have a VAT system in place. To re-phrase the VAT- A tax will be put on business at production, to be given to the people for consumption of their products. Bernie Sanders is at it again, again. Today's latest plan is to "cancel" $1.6 trillion of student loan debt. How does he plan to pay for this debt cancellation? With a tax on Wall Street speculation. Using the millennial's hatred for wall street is an amazing tactic for Bernie. If there's one thing he's good at, it's salesmanship. This is a clear move to buy votes in the primary election. Sanders' has already been running close in the polls to Joe Biden, and he's been looking for something to push him over the top. Why not just literally buy the votes of thousands of people who are still paying off their student loan debt? I've gone pretty far into how bad this plan would be for our economy in another article. "Aggressive/risky" trading is what funds use to balance their portfolios against their safe investments.
