If taxation is theft, "Corporate Welfare" isn't welfare at all

Please subscribe to the podcast! What a discussion! We planned on talking about the CBO's study on the minimum wage, but we deviated into a conversation about the reality of corporate welfare. Let me ask you this. If taxation is theft, why would you propose a problems "solution" is to make sure someone is paying more taxes? If a thief is making their way through your neighborhood, taking $1,000 from each house, and your next door neighbor makes a deal for only $500 to be stolen, who is in the wrong? Would you suggest that this is "unfair?" Of course it is- but which party is responsible? AudiBlog: After studying the numbers, it's clear the Women's U.S. Soccer team is paid too much money

The title is obviously outrageous, but if you read through to the end you might get the point. After the US Women's Soccer team won the 2019 FIFA World Cup, a chant of "equal pay" could be heard in the crowd. In addition to the emotionomics chant heard by the crowd, numerous news outlets including Vanity Fair, CNN, VOX, Splinter, and Business Insider led with misleading headlines about viewership in the Women's World Cup vs. the 2018 Men's World Cup. Let's break down the numbers to understand why this is another manufactured, and completely baseless complaint. The basic idea is that the US Women's team is being paid less for the same (or more) viewership as the US Men's soccer team. The official statement was that women's team is making only 40% of what the men's team is paid. Let's talk about viewers "The Women's World Cup ratings top Men's 2018 Championship Game by 22%" Here's the big difference. By big, I mean it is a massive, un-ignorable difference. AudiBlog: It might be out of pure hatred for America that Nike would ban the Betsy Ross flag

I'm a little late on this controversy, but if you didn't hear over the Independence Day break, Nike pulled their release of a limited edition sneaker featuring the "Betsy Ross" American flag. You've seen this flag before. Any time I see this one I think of Mel Gibson waving the flag after taking the battlefield at the end of "The Patriot." That scene sticks out in my mind because it's also how I see myself every time I release one of these articles. The Betsy Ross flag was the original flag of the U.S.A. It featured the usual 13 stripes, but had a circle of 13 stars in the corner, both of which represented the original 13 colonies of America. This nearly forgotten antique flag was brought into the spotlight after Collin Kaepernick persuaded Nike to drop their "racist" design before bringing them to market in time for July 4th celebrations across the country. The basic idea being that the flag represented a time in U.S. history when slavery was the norm. There's one major problem with banning the use of Betsy's flag in today's society based on the fact that the U.S. was heavily involved in the slave trade at that time- So was every other major country. I haven't heard many calls to ban the use of Great Britain's flag, Mexico's flag, France's flag, let alone the dozens of other flags still used by nations around the world. These websites are actually comparing US viewership for the Women's game that featured a US team playing, and a game that did not involve the US Men's team- to make the case that the US Women's team is comparable to the US Men's team in TV audience. Let's discuss Justin Amash, Collin Kaepernick, Nike, & the Constitution

I pledge allegiance to the Republican Party.. Oh wait, that's not it.. Today we talk about Justin Amash and his recent announcement. Mainly we'll discuss some of the insane comments we've seen made by Republicans, and yes, even President Trump. If your number one goal is to protect the constitution and to further individual liberty, how is it a good thing that Amash is no longer a part of your party? He happens to hold a 100% rating from FreedomWorks, and a 94% on the Freedom Index when it comes to voting in accordance with the US Constitution. This puts him well above most Republicans, but maybe that's not what a Republican is anymore. It seems that they are more concerned with allegiance to the party and the President than allegiance to the Constitution. We'll also take on the controversy surrounding NIKE and their recent decision to ban the "Betsy Ross" flag from their shoe designs. Citing "racism" and "slavery" as the reasons for this decision. Audiblog: How hatred for 'the rich' killed millions in Russia

This is a short history of the "Kulaks." A "Kulak" was the name for a wealthy peasant in 1920's Russia. They were the farmers. Even having an acre or two more, or one more cow, would get you the label of Kulak. When times were rough, Lenin and Stalin pointed the masses to the Kulaks as the reason for all their suffrage. What happened next was the inevitable ending of class warfare. It is the implied logical conclusion that comes from pointing at one class and saying that they are to blame for your problems. Almost a million Kulaks were murdered. Here's how insane this ideology is- The Kulaks were the ones that knew how to grow food. In the famine that followed the destruction of the Kulaks, upwards of six million people starved to death. The Declaration of Independence. We break it down line by line to celebrate America's birthday

IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776 The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. Audiblog: Buying votes is illegal- Unless you're running for president

Read the article at www.goodmorningliberty.us www.bernielies.com I've spent the last few days combing through the Democrats' plans for free college, free healthcare, "freedom dividends," among many other plans that promise to give you money if they were to win. Today, something clicked. It's illegal to buy votes in the United States. There are numerous federal and state level laws that line out the details on various fines associated with offering people money in exchange for their vote. First we'll look at the federal law on vote buying. Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate; and Whoever solicits, accepts, or receives any such expenditure in consideration of his vote or the withholding of his vote— Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. (June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 721; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(1)(H), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147; Pub. L. 104–294, title VI, § 601(a)(12), Oct. 11, 1996, 110 Stat. 3498.) Our take on the Young American's for Liberty conference, and why a UBI is not "Freedom"

We spent the weekend at the Young American's for Liberty conference in Memphis, TN. If you haven't heard of them before, check out their website at www.yaliberty.org www.goodmorningliberty.us In the recent Democratic debate we were able to hear presidential candidate Andrew Yang's plan for a "Freedom Dividend," or otherwise known as "Universal Basic Income(UBI)." This is not a new idea. In fact, even one of my favorite economists, Milton Friedman, was in support of a UBI as a replacement for the current welfare system. Yang's proposal would give a direct payment of $1,000 per month to every American above the age of 18. Rich, poor, white, black- it doesn't matter. Everyone above the age of 18 will receive this "Freedom Dividend." The US Government currently spends $668 billion per year on welfare programs. Remember, "welfare" is just one portion of the social safety net. That number also does not take into account what state's spend on welfare; another portion of the equation that is likely to change under a UBI system. The most recent count on the amount of adults in the US above the age of 18, has the number at 247 million. A $1,000 payment to each of them would cost 247 billion per month. That's 2.9 trillion per year to fund the "Freedom Dividend," without the administrative overhead costs. Andrew Yang's UBI is proposed to be covered by a Value-Added Tax (VAT) of 10%. A VAT would be paid by business owners in the production phases of their products. Currently, the US does not have a VAT system in place. To re-phrase the VAT- A tax will be put on business at production, to be given to the people for consumption of their products. 028: Without Corporations, We All Would Die

It's been another long 2 weeks since we last spoke and there has been a ton of news! Thanks for coming back to listen to our take on this crazy disaster called American politics. We started with a local story right here from Nashville, TN. Our very own HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) really stepped in it this time. Apparently they were given 1 million dollars in taxpayer money that had been laid out to support poor areas of town. The click-bait headline reads that they used that 1 million on office furniture. Does everyone assume that they weren't going to buy office furniture until Nashville gave them the money? Point is, that was a fixed cost for the building. And of course no one cares that they spent 10 million of their own money to rebuild the infrastructure for the area! Seattle is doing what they do best; removing reasons to ever become productive. They have passed a "per-head" tax on any business that grosses more than 20 million a year. That right, "gross" not "net." Even if you gross 20 million and your expenses are $19,999,999, you still owe the government their extra money! For each employee you have to pay an additional $300 tax. I say additional because employers already pay taxes for each employee. Nate lays out his dream scenario for Jeff Bezos' reaction. 026: The Real Truth About Nashville And Big Transit

On May 1st, Nashville will be voting on a mass transit plan that promises to fix the crippling gridlock that's plagued its citizens for the last several years. Yes you heard it right, government thinks it's the answer to fixing gridlock. All they need is more money, and they can for sure fix the problem. Assuming they are the first government in history to come in within the budget and on time, it should only cost about $9 billion and be finished by 2032. We brought on a very special guest to help us understand the plan in more detail. 025: Congress Finally Declares War... On Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, was grilled this week by Senate and Congressional hearings regarding Facebook's "failure" to not safeguard Cambridge Analytica from selling 87 million user's data to 3rd parties. Somehow, this has become Zuckerberg's obligation and fault. We will say that he has this obligation, but only because of the users of Facebook want their data protected, not because it should be government mandated. The market has already moved against Facebook, including Ellon Musk deleting all of its Facebook accounts. There's not some magic law or fine that will keep this from happening. Hitting Facebook in the pocketbook will keep this from happening and it's already proven to be true before the hearings were even scheduled. Every time I typed out these show notes, I feel like I'm always having to tell President Trump to stay off of Twitter. It really has been a circus since he has taken office as far as his tweets go. The latest we talk about, being bombing Syria and threatening Russia that they can't shoot down the missiles because they're "smart." He literally put "smart" in quotation marks, like I just did! The United States has 0 business being involved with Syria, or bombing them, even if it were true that Assad used Chemical Weapons. There is no truth to that, but this war has nothing to do with America's security and Liberty. Our Republic is not being threatened by Assad, so there's no reason for us to go to war. 024: March For Our Lives...From Spending

In lighter news, in today's show, Stormy Daniels defied her agreement with President Trump and told her story on 60 Minutes. I'm not sure why that's even news, but to each their own, we guess. Apparently, the Donald, or as we like to call him, Tariff Daddy, was reading and talking about himself when he made the cover of Time Magazine, and she took that magazine and spanked him with it. This was 11 years ago. Did anyone think that Trump wasn't going to cheat on his 4th wife. Or 8th wife - I'm not sure; I lost count. Hundreds of thousands of kids took to the streets in protest, in what they called the "March for our Lives" this past weekend. Where did they come up with that name? How original is that? Oh yeah, there's already a protest called "March for Life." Real clever, teenagers. It must have taken your parents a long time to come up with that one. Is anyone taking these kids seriously besides the left spun media? Are we really trying to listen to the same teenagers that were eating laundry detergent a mere 3 weeks ago? The Tide Pod eating craze was so popular, it forced Democrats to advocate for laws trying to compel companies not to make laundry detergent so appetizing. Seriously. And we are supposed to listen to them about policy and the natural right to protect yourself? Your "Republican" President signed a $1.3 Trillion spending plan on Friday. Sounds real conservative. Charlie gets heated in this discussion. In fact, Jon calls him Rush Limbaugh at the end because the rant was fire! How is it, that "conservatives" in power pass the second largest spending bill in United States history? And the President has the gall to say, "I'm never signing another bill like this." Then why did you sign that one!? I'll never understand that logic. Oh, and we will have to make another episode about abortion and Planned Parenthood, but in case you didn't know, yes, it still received it's $500 million in funding from the Federal Government. 023: Trump Proclaims Death Penalty For Getting People High?

Another Libertarian show talking about drugs... Except this one is different! It's time to have a real conversation about drugs. Drugs are bad. Heroine destroys lives. The opioid crisis is real. Trump and his administration's plan is horrible. Here's why. In a speech, President Trump talked about being tough of drug dealers and drug traffickers. In fact, he called for the death penalty. Now, whatever your feelings are about drugs or this black market business, calling for the death penalty doesn't solve this problem. What is this? 1400 England? Do we have a king shouting, "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD?" The fact remains, prohibition doesn't work. It never has and it never will. Building walls, locking people up, and instituting a death penalty, will not curb the issue that we see. History proves that prohibition didn't work with alcohol, and the last 50 years proves that the drug war hasn't worked either. Jon made the ultimate libertarian mistake last episode and talked about the Federal Reserve being a for profit corporation like profit was a bad thing. But have no fear! Mistakes allow you to expand on your intent and it brings you the newest episode on why profit is a good thing. First things first, what is profit? What is money? Well, money is just a representation of value to trade with others. Profit is trading to get excess value to trade for additional things that are needed or wanted. We get in depth on basic economic principles of money and the profit motive. The profit motive is what drive efficiency an innovation. The greatest things in life have come from people looking for ways to make life better, easier, and more comfortable all due to wanting to make profit. Milton Friedman said, "It's always the other fellow whose greedy. It's never any of us." Whether or not you are a business owner, everyone tries to make as much money as possible for the least amount of work. When you interview for a job, you want the highest salary possible. I think it goes without saying that we believe in less government intervention here on Good Morning Liberty. So why is it that we should cheer on Rand Paul for wanting to audit the Federal Reserve? 020: Even Libertarian Show Hosts Fall Down The Slippery Slope of Gun Control

Those that don't know history are destined to repeat it. Several have said this, but I believe this specific quote comes from Edmund Burke. It's a powerful statement, really. How quickly can humankind forget events that have so negatively impacted them? This phenomenon spans many issues, but in today's episode, we discuss some more gun debate and we are high on tariff watch. President Donald Trump has announced on social media and other outlets, that a steel and aluminum tariff are coming. This is part of his America First agenda. Really, it's a way to stir up his base. However, this doesn't put America First. It only benefits a very minute sector of American industries and could be costly to every other American. As I mentioned before about history, one only has to look to the 1930's to understand why tariff's like this are an atrocity. That time period was the last time that America exported more than it imported. It wasn't a good time. Don't be fooled. Listen in and hear why this is bad news for everyone. We hated to do this, but a gentleman we really admire on the show, and listen to his show all the time, the Jason Stapleton Program, has gone back and forth with a listener about some different gun control measures. Shockingly, we didn't agree with what Jason had to say in regards to a position he was defending. Jason defends a stance that guns can be taken away from you in a restraining order type process, if your mom or relative petitions the court, before due process has taken place. We explain what constitutes due process as well as not wanting to give an inch to the gun grabbers. 014: Maybe the Government of Hawaii needs a Border Wall for Their Warning Button

If you needed more reasons to not trust the government, just ask the people of Hawaii about the emergency warning that a ballistic missle was headed their way and to seek shelter. Apparently it was an accident and it only took them 38 minutes to send the all clear signal. Only... What are your thoughts on a border wall? Is it necessary? We discuss if it's a good or bad thing, the cost, and if it should go up. Although there are probably wiser things to spend money on, we talk about why immigration wouldn't be so bad if we fixed the actual problem. The welfare state. I think Trump will probably get what he wants. Or the government will shut down. That sounds like a win to us! What was immigration like before 1914? Well, we will tell you! Someone tweeted about Trump's grandpa, Fredrick Trump, immigrating when he was 16 years old, and we explain why it is different than today's immigration. Apparantly Carrier is supposed to be in the business of getting people out of bad marriages. At least that's what some on the left would have you believe. Trump made the mistake of taking credit for Carrier staying in the US for a year, but they are going to go ahead and shut down that Carrier plant in Indiania. Those that work there and voted for Trump are now regretting their decision. This is why you should invest in yourself and not rely on politicians who don't care about you.
