1:16 True to Myself with FC Kaiserslautern and former USMNT Forward Terrence Boyd
ETerrence Boyd, has scored in every Bundesliga. He’s scored Europa League goals, ventured to the MLS and earned 14 caps for the US Men’s National Team . Right now he’s in the hunt for golden boot in Bundesliga 2, where his FC Kaiserslautern is finding it’s way back to its former glory. One of the first things he said to us was “I’m not even a football player.” He’s just Terrence. He knows what he likes, he knows what makes him better, he knows it’s just a game. After accomplishing things many of us dream of doing, he stayed true to himself. He knows that his work ethic got him here, he knows that staying humble allowed him to venture to new heights, and he knows that his resilience helped him to overcome gruesome injuries. The proof is that he feels he’s hitting a new prime at the age of 32. We talk youth football at Dortmund and Hertha Berlin, why so many talented players lose their way, why promotion and relegation is so crucial to the sport, Bundesliga ups and downs, USMNT call ups, Toronto FC, the road to redemption and so much more. Throughout his career he has played in 4 different countries (Spain, USA, Iceland, Canada) scoring 54 goals and 10 assist in 194 games. Early in his career, Sito was signed by the Houston Dynamo under a “Discovery Claim” which turned out to hurt him when they dropped him from the team after signing DeMarcus Beasley. This early roadblock only added more fuel to the fire for Sito. It set him on his path to Iceland, playing with 3 separate clubs in 2 divisions across 6 seasons. In between these seasons in Iceland, he also spent time in the USL championship in the US with Ottowa Fury and in USL League One with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. Sito’s ability to adapt and take the next opportunity, wherever that may be, is a blueprint for young ballers. EWelcome to Stoppage Time: a segment where we choose some of our favorite highlights from each episode. Today we clipped some amazing moments from episode 1:04 What If? with Brian Saramago.••• From The Full Episode•••Brian Saramago is a Portuguese/American professional soccer player currently playing for B SAD in the Portuguese 2nd tier. A deadline day contract which captivated years of blood, sweat, and tears. Brian's youth success at Red Bulls Academy, U17-19 USMNT, and Loyola University left him destined for a professional contract as his next step. But things don't always work out as you plan. Keeping the faith that his time would come, Brian grinded in the shadows, until he took an opportunity in Slovenia, which would only be the beginning.
