Ep 1481:48 Attention, Intensity & Intent with Sport Psychologist Dan Abrahams
We sat down for the second time with sport psychologist Dan Abrahams. Dan has worked some of the world's best athletes including premier league players and most recently with Arne Slot at Feyenoord during their title winning season. Even Gareth Bale said Dan's book "Soccer Tough" was life changing. It's been over 2 years since we had him on and he has furthered his insights into how athletes tick. In this episode, we covered a range of topics from ANTS, Game Face & Match Script which we touched on last episode, but also spoke about his more recent findings with High Performance Mindset (HPM) and Low Performance Mindset (LPM) and how to best get into HPM. This is where the idea of attention, intensity and intent come in. Did you know that you can increase your chance of scoring a penalty by 10% if you simply wait 5 seconds after the whistle to begin your run-up? Or why communicating on the field can actually push you into HPM if done with the right amount of attention, intensity and intent? We always enjoy talking to Dan, and this episode was no exception. He's found success both domestically and abroad, and has challenged himself to find opportunities to grow himself both on and off the field. At a very early age he was tested in Holland and Denmark, an experience that really opened his eyes to the levels around the world. Lucas also enjoyed a fruitful career at Creighton University, before being taken 26th overall in the MLS draft by the Vancouver Whitecaps. Most recently he's spent time at the historically massive Carl Zeiss Jena in Germany and at the Las Vegas Lights in the USL Championship. We spoke about going abroad at a young age, proving yourself in trials and in preseasons, reaching out to clubs, Regionalliga and USL Championship comparisons, the importance of good relationships in the game, time without clubs, consistently being overlooked but always showing his worth, and how proper preparation is something he prides himself on. The Layover Hoodie
EThe Layover Hoodie. Black, Oversized and Insanely Comfortable.https://footwork.club/product/the-layover-hoodie/9am. 3pm. 21:00. Newark. Hamburg. Bangkok. No matter the time, no matter the city or airport, the Footwork Original Layover Hoodie is the only choice. As globe-trotters and travelers we found our inspiration in the miles/km that lay ahead. As well as the ones before that helped shape us today. On the front you’ll find condensed text. The same text that you can also find before every podcast episode we’ve ever made. To go further, it’s a portion from a speech by Alan Watts titled What if Money Was no Object. A title which we live by. If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you’ll spend your life completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is to go on doing thing you don’t like doing, which is stupid. Better to have a short life, that is full of what you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way.On the side, you’ll see part of our logo deconstructed. Our boarding pass. It can’t be the Layover Hoodie without the ticket. And on the back, we had to spread the legendary logo from coast to coast. Now you can plug and pass from any airport lobby in the world. The tee was made in New Paltz, NY as it was also important for us to work locally with those who could understand and help put our vision to life. Thank you to T-SOURCE. Our Consultation Episode (Questions for Sean and Dylan)
EA different episode today...We do consultations here at Footwork, where we try to make ourselves available for players who want to connect, ask questions, and maybe advice. We think it's a good way of giving back and also expanding both of our networks. A win-win situation. This particular consultation contained a lot of interesting and thought-provoking questions from a young Canadian player. Questions which we hadn't really experienced before in this space. And as the podcast people we are, thought about half-way through, why not record it. Well here it is. Hopefully more players can take some good info from this as well. 1:28 Nothing to Lose with James Lawrence
EJames Lawrence is a professional footballer for FC Nürnberg in the second Bundesliga. His roadmap has had several stops, some less common than others, but all have left him with a plethora of experiences and accomplishments. From Arsenal Youth Academies, to Ajax, to Slovakia, Belgium with Anderlecht, and Germany with St. Pauli and FC Nürnberg, James shares the far from straight path he took up until now. He’s had the highs of winning the league and making the Welsh National Team, and the low’s of picking up injury right before certain playing time in the Uefa 2020 Euros.
