1:02 Leaving Home at 15 with Nico Gaitan

E

Nico Gaitan is a professional soccer player for Club Villa Dálmine, a second tier club in Argentina. He's back in the country applying his trade over 10 years since he first embarked on this journey to be a professional. He left his home in New York at the age of 15, in search of an opportunity, and a dream that needed to be attacked. Nico has played around the world, USA of course, Boca Juniors U-20, OFI Crete FC in Greece, spending some time under the tutelage of this guy you might have heard of...Gennaro Gattuso? Some years in the 3rd division in Spain with two different clubs and now back again to a country which he explains helped shape his game and mentality. "I think Argentina may be the toughest place to play in the world." We explore this major decision to leave home at a young age; the benefits, the hardships, the stories and the experiences. The role of optimism and gratefulness in his journey, the mindset of going out and getting it rather than waiting for the "perfect opportunity", politics, failure and so much more. Make My Own Path: Germany with Dylan Williams

E

Back by popular demand we pick up with our co-host Dylan's story after his Sweden time came to a close. Entering another era of uncertainty, he decided that his best option was to book a one way flight and get after it. It helped that our other co-host Sean was already on the ground in Germany! And thus began a time of haters, pizza money, making a name for himself and trials on trials on trials. Not to mention highlights of a career thus far like playing Bayer Leverkusen and Hannover 96. A path created by making mistakes and learning from them, navigating poor situations and creating advantages, understanding that there is a bigger picture, creating a network of trust, rejection x 3, proving yourself right and tons more. This is Make My Own Path: Germany with Dylan Williams •WHAT IS FOOTWORK? 00:95 The Transfer Window

E

The transfer window, an incredibly important time for all footballers looking to sign or re-sign for their clubs. But there is much more to it. Dylan and Sean break down the WHO is it relevant to, WHAT Can You Do, HOW You Can Find Teams, WHERE You Should Look For Teams, and lastly WHEN the transfer windows open and close. Also, a guest was promised for this week and Wagsy is back on the show. He appears on the second part of the show (beginning at 20:37) where they talk footy and play a few fun games such as "start, bench, sell". Please excuse Sean's mic quality, as he's been traveling around this preseason and was stuck using headphones from 1980.•WHAT IS FOOTWORK? Make My Own Path: Germany with Sean Vinberg

E

It's the last week of our Make My Own Path Month and that takes us to Germany. Our co-host Sean's first true taste of European soccer. But it did not come so easy. Proving himself to coaches, scouts, presidents, you name it.. Sean had to make a name for himself in Hamburg, Germany. And that he did. Playing with multiple clubs, Sean saw the differences of being in a Soccer Mecca, the vision of what the sport could be, denial, achievement, relegation, and vowed to continue his mission no matter what. This episode has it all. This is Make My Own Path: Germany with Sean Vinberg.•WHAT IS FOOTWORK? Make My Own Path: Sweden with Dylan Williams

E

It's our third week of our Make My Own Path month and today we are headed to Sweden. After finishing in Australia, our co-host Dylan wasn't simply handed a new contract before the end of the season. Wanting to get into Europe, he took a contract that could be seen as a "small step backwards" but it ultimately was the right move. Spending two seasons in two different leagues in Sweden, Dylan dealt with many hurdles along the way. This episode has it all; dealing with expectations, playing on a team full of Americans in Sweden, visa issues, learning about yourself, creating a bigger network, unexpected roadblocks, choosing between Ketchup or BBQ sauce and much more. It's our second week of our Make My Own Path Month and that takes us to Mongolia. Our co-host Sean's first professional contract and one that set the stage for a career abroad. Quick, without looking at a map, where is Mongolia? To Sean it didn't matter, it was his break and the start of something memorable. We discuss his mindset going into the move, the role of expectations, making the best out of a situation, Mongolia quirks and beauties, the pressure of being a foreigner and much more. We've covered a lot of different stories from Mongolia in our earlier episodes so you can also head over to those to hear even more about Sean's time there. It's incredible.
