Ep 131131: New Year Special – Releasing the Old and Setting Your Intentions

E

So, how are your New Year's resolutions going? Are you keeping up with them or have you already let them fall by the wayside? We'll let you in on a secret: it's about intentions, not resolutions. And we're here to help you get back on track to manifesting your desires. The common misconception is that manifesting is hard—that in order to make your dreams come true you have to strive and stress. But the truth is, manifesting and getting set on your course to success simply requires courage and the ability to release. By letting go, you suddenly begin attracting the life you really want. Here are our five steps to setting your intention: 1 – Get clear No wishful thinking. Get very specific about what you want to create and manifest. What do you want to achieve, by when? 2 – Detach Don't be dependent on the outcome; know that the Universe may provide what you've asked for in a package different to how you'd imagined. Detach from the outcome and allow yourself to receive what comes without judgement. 3 – Check in with yourself Where are you setting your intention from? Is it fear, anxiety or love? This will massively impact your manifestation, because like attracts like. Set your intention from an abundant place. Put yourself in a place of gratitude so you can set your intention lovingly. 4 – Feel it Meditate on the feeling that you want to attract (not the opposite!). Even if you don't know how to meditate, just give yourself a few minutes of quiet where you can feel what it's going to be life to reach your goals. Sense the loving energy coming into your body. 5 – Write it down Writing your intention down sends a powerful message to your brain and the Universe. Feel and believe that everything you seek is seeking you. Know that it is all on its way to you now. Letting go is something we all struggle with, but it is one of the key things you can do to heal your body and your soul. The Sedona Method was started in the 1950's by Lester Levinson. After being given just a few months to live, he began to release emotions and negative thoughts and accept his death—he healed his body and lived on for another 30 years. The Sedona philosophy, in a nutshell, is: welcome and bless everything in your life, the good and the bad. Ep 130130: Radical Self-Care Routines, Stepping into Love, and Creating a Fundamental Consciousness Shift

E

When Allison met Heather at Gabrielle Bernstein's Spirit Junkie Masterclass, she knew she had to come on the podcast! Heather Fantin is a transformational coach and intuitive healer, and founder of Soul on Fire retreats, where people can completely transform and heal their mind, body and being. Heather's early life was filled with drama and despair: parents separating, getting into the wrong crowd, abusive relationships, rape, car crashes—life kept bringing her to her knees. At just 18, her inner guide voice shone through: "you are not living the life you are intended to live—you have a lot of work to do and you have to change your life." She left her home town of Seattle and spent 15 years travelling the world, learning new healing techniques and experiencing different cultures, exploring humanity and herself. We feel the way we do because of what we're thinking, Thoughts create our reactions and affect the quality of our life, and our future. You need to get clear on the story. Does yours empower or disempower you? It's easy to fall into victim mode, but by becoming aware, you can free yourself from negative thought patterns. Heather believes there is a fundamental shift occurring in how we approach health. Imagine how different your entire life would be if you felt whole, if you were healed, if you embraced your light and dark with love. Imagine a world filled with people just like that. Radical self-care is more than just eating healthy and working out. It's about cultivating loving feelings towards yourself, having a deep connection with a power bigger than yourself and being in a supportive and open community of like-minded individuals. 2016 was an intense year. The current political climate is raw and has awakened many pent-up feelings within us. How can we make a positive impact on the world through our thoughts and actions? How can we heal this trauma? When we judge others, or situations, we are in fact judging something within ourselves that needs healing. Even Trump is simply a reflection of our collective shadow. When we come from a place of love instead of fear, we no longer feed the problem. We are spiritual beings, not just human beings—we can open up to love, heal ourselves, and heal the world. Ep 129129: How to Heal Physical & Emotional Pain, Release Blocks & Receive Love Through Energy Healing

Almost all issues, physical or emotional, can be healed through energy work—even physical pain that's connected with an emotional block. Master Energy Healer Benson Simmonds marries energy work with divine Hebrew symbols to harness the power of the universe and heal his clients. Whether body or mind, what it comes down to is unconditional love. In a way, many of us have lost our sense of power. We're mostly driven by our ego, based on fear and the thought "I'm not good enough", something which is endlessly confirmed by the media. While this is our default system, we can choose to be driven by our soul, which is based on joy, love and expansion. Benson's book Soular Power teaches us how to open up to the divine flow to allow more love to come in. You can book an energy healing session with Benson through Suzy's new business Mary Jane's Mobile Massage, a fabulous new venture offering CBD-infused massages from the comfort of your own home. Ep 128128: Never Binge Again & Reprogram Yourself to Think Like a Permanently Thin Person with Dr. Glen Livingston

Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun Times, The Indiana Star Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or any of the other major media outlets you see on this page. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food. Click here to learn more about his book: Never Binge Again: Stop Overeating and Binge Eating and Reprogram Yourself to Think Like a Permanently Thin Person...on the Food Plan of Your Choice! Ep 127127: How to Be an Eco-Friendly Vegan Fashionista with GUNAS Founder Sugandh Agrawal

Let's be honest, almost all of us have shopped at a fast fashion outlet at one point or other, for that last minute party outfit or a quick shopping fix. But often these clothes last all of a day, disintegrating after one wash. They may be cheap, but they've got a heavy ethical and ecological cost: made in sweatshops, laced with lead, they quickly end up on landfill sites. Is it possible to be fashionistas with a conscience? YES! As a vegetarian and now vegan, Sugandh Agrawal knew she didn't want to wear animal byproducts and set about finding an alternative. Leather, while known the world over for being "luxurious", is a dirty industry—not just cruel to animals, but cruel to the people who work with it, and the environment. The journey to launching an ethical fashion brand wasn't easy—she had to find different materials and artisans willing to work with them, not to mention finding factories that treat workers fairly. But it was worth it! In 2009 she launched GUNAS New York, our favorite, 100% vegan, 100% sweatshop-free, 100% eco-friendly handbag brand, voted Most Ethical Brand by the Ethical Fashion Forum. You don't have to compromise on style—you can be fashion forward and fashion conscious. Sugandh wants to show the world a vegan lifestyle isn't bland. It's as fun, vibrant and colorful as the GUNAS handbags. Ep 126126: Two Near Death Experiences Nearly Killed Her, But Maura Knowles Came Back to Heal Herself & the Planet

Maura Knowles lay on the operating table, awake. A routine procedure that should have taken a few minutes had turned into a life-threatening operation. She was only 20. Everything that could have gone wrong in hospital, did—pancreatitis, infections, misdiagnoses, you name it. She survived not one near death experience, but two! Her fighting Irish spirit and the support of her family pulled her through. Twenty years on, she's turning these dramas into a musical comedy "Insult to Injury." She's not the only strong survivor in her family. Her father survived a quadruple by-pass. He was put on an incredibly restrictive diet—no sugar, no salt, no treats. Knowing from experience how crappy it feels to be without any kind of comfort food, Maura set out to create something healthy and delicious that her father could enjoy. MacnMo's Morselicious Treats were born. Gluten-free, sugar-free, GMO-free, soy-free, preservative-free, salt-free and delicious, these morsels can now be found in over 30 stores nationwide. Maura is also an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, helping people change the way they eat—but it's not about restriction, it's about having real, tasty, satisfying food. Maura advocates eating clean and green 85% of the time, and giving yourself 15% wiggle room. Her 21-day detox incorporates exercise, social activities, and the things you love—yes, even wine. Ep 124124: How To Be Grateful During Tough Times Thanksgiving Special

E

Thanksgiving is all about being grateful, and at no time is this more important than in the face of the negativity, hate and division that the election result symbolizes. So far, we've kept to health topics, but today, Food Heals Nation, we're going political. It's a frightening time—the new president elect stands for racism, anti-feminism, anti-human-rights, war. Many of us no longer feel safe; we feel anxious and scared. But we don't have to feel this way. Suzie shares one method that works for her: the Sedona Method. Started by Lester Levenson in the 50's, it works on the principle of letting go of negative beliefs, habits and patterns to free yourself from psychological discomfort and come back to the present moment—where we are most peaceful, and most powerful. Check out their website to learn more, or reach out to Suzie on our FB Group. We'll dedicate an entire episode to this topic very soon! We also introduce our fabulous new podcast producer, Foxy Roxy—a full time music producer and sound engineer, and "Trump supporters' worst nightmare." What organizations and charities are you involved in? How can we be there for each other and the communities that are fighting for their voice? Let's support one another. We want to hear your voice Food Heals Nation: share your thoughts on our FB group! Wishing you all a happy, healthy, harmonious Thanksgiving. How many of us keep ourselves in the dark when it comes to where our food comes from? We turn the other way because we don't want to learn about male chicks being tossed into a grinder because they're not "profitable", we don't want to see pigs suffering and immobile in their tiny birthing pens. But thanks to the work of animal activists and organizations like the Humane Society, more and more people are waking up to these practices and opting to go plant-based. We met Lauren Pitts at the amazing Humane Society Annual Gala, where we bonded over animal welfare, celebrities and all things plant-based! Lauren always had a passion for animals, but she also ate them. Then three years ago she decided to stop keeping herself in the dark about where her food was coming from. After watching video by Dr. Melanie Joy, she threw her lunch in the trash, and embarked on plant-based lifestyle. But she doesn't stop at her own diet: through her work with the Humane Society, she's getting plant based meals into schools, universities and hospitals! Cows can live to 20 years old, but they will be slaughtered by the time they're 3. And then we eat them. Yet we can completely survive on plant based foods. For Lauren, the easiest, cheapest, best thing to do for the environment and animals is to reduce your meat consumption. Try a Meatless Monday, or go plant-based a couple of days a week, or be vegan before 6pm – whatever works for you. Just go for it, give it a try – you might surprise yourself. We're also joined by surprise guest Kari Jean Glosser, a certified financial planner and adviser who's recently joined the plant-based movement. She's 3 months into her plant-based lifestyle and loving it! For all the show notes visit foodhealsnation.com! Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 9393: Directors Kip & Keegan on the film that environmental organizations don't want you to see!

E

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world's leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. Executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret follows intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world's leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean "dead zones," and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged. As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist. Kip Andersen's environmental awakening came as a result of An Inconvenient Truth. After seeing the film, he began to recycle religiously, turn off lights constantly, shower infrequently, and ride a bike instead of driving. Andersen believed he was doing everything he could to help the planet by following the guidelines of national and international environmental organizations, but his life took a different direction when he found out animal agriculture is the leading cause of environmental destruction. He is the founder of AUM Films and Media, a 501c3 non-profit focused on creating films and media that promote thrivability, compassion, and harmony for all life. He is also an entrepreneur, as well as a certified Jivamukti and Kundalini yoga teacher. He is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo school of business and has called San Francisco home for more than a decade. Keegan Kuhn is a videographer, award-winning documentary filmmaker, and professional musician living in the east bay of San Francisco. He has worked with nonprofit organizations and been involved in social justice movements for virtually his entire life. As a filmmaker, he helps organizations reach an ever-greater community of supporters with the highest possible quality films and videos. His film career has taken him as far as the remote interior of Alaska to document modern homesteaders, to the high deserts of the American west filming the nation's remaining wild horses, to rural agricultural communities and dirty urban streets. He is motivated by a deep desire to shed light on untold stories of the most downtrodden in our society, and to raise to awareness through greater visibility of social justice issues. Ep 8989: Q&A Tuesday with Allison and Suzy and Healing Cancer with Carlos Caridad

By the time I was 26 years old, I was an orphan. I had lost both my parents to long, debilitating battles with cancer. When my parents were sick, I asked the doctor, "Does nutrition matter?" He said no. And thus my parents continued to eat a poor diet. Would this knowledge have saved my parent's life? I'll never know. But shouldn't every single person have the tools, knowledge, and opportunity to make an informed & educated decision about their own health? Carlos Caridad is helping people make those informed decisions by showing the world what is possible. I was honored to be interviewed about how I overcame the trauma of losing my parents and turned it into a positive mission to spread awareness of nutrition and healing unresolved issues in order to live a healthy, vibrant life. I am so excited to be part of Carlos's Healing Cancer in This Century Summit. Remember, your body can heal itself if you give it the tools it needs to do so! Food Heals! Carlos Caridad became an energy healer & a Reiki Master, when after working as Director of Engineering for 15 years at the Valley Cancer Institute, an Integrative cancer Treatment in Los Angeles, California, his 3 years son was healed from a terrible autoimmune disease cause by excessive vaccinations: 23 at age 3! His son's immune system was so distorted, confused and messed up that attacked his own kidneys. He couldn't urinate and ended up in the emergency room. After 6 months of suffering, his wife and he found a Homeopathic Doctor in India and an Energy Healer in the US who facilitated their son's healing in about 3 weeks. Carlos promised himself that if he found a cure for his son, since the medical establishment didn't have any, he will spread the word around the world. This is what inspired Carlos study, practice Energy Healing and to create the Healing Cancer In This Century, to bring a shift on consciousness, making the general public aware we are not just a physical body and how emotional trauma affects our health. Carlos spends his time helping clients getting their message of health and wellness through videos on the internet, practicing and teaching Energy healing. Ep 8383: Celebrate Earth Day with Magda Freedom Rod

Magda Freedom Rod is an environmentalist and lifestyle guide. Through her website Visionary-Lifestyle.com, she helps people achieve their highest potential with conscious eating, yoga and meditation. If you've not listened to them yet, check out episodes 24 and 74 where Magda talks about her e-course Conscious Eating 101.com and how to set new intentions for Spring. Earth Day is an opportunity to love Mother Earth and be thankful for all that she provides. "99.9% of people don't make the connection that their food choices impact the environment in a major way." Concern for the planet's health is what first made Magda switch to a plant based diet. She uses Earth Day to get people to think about their impact on the planet. What is one thing that we can do to start reducing our carbon footprint and take care of Mother Earth? "Three simple words: Eat More Plants. The more plants you eat, the less meat you eat, and the lighter your footprint on the planet." Thanks to documentaries such as Cowspiracy (if you've not seen this, we highly recommend it!), more and more people are becoming aware of the destructive impact of intensive agriculture. The word is getting out! Going vegan is not just good for the body, it's good for the planet too. Magda talked us through just some of the factors that make intensive animal farming so detrimental to Mother Earth: Climate change: animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate change, which is the biggest threat to human survival. The methane from the cows and the deforestation of the rainforest for cattle grazing are the two main factors at play. And grass fed cows are just as guilty, if not more—they produce 40-60% more methane! Overfishing: in 90% of the oceans, big fish are gone. We're fishing at unsustainable rates and the ocean simply isn't replenishing. What's more, for every pound of seafood, there are 5 pounds of bi-kill (whales, dolphins, sea turtles, endangered species that are caught in the nets at the same time). Pollution: toxic waste from animal farms leeches into the soil and contaminates ground water. We were shocked by showing animal feces being sprayed into the environment. Species extinction through habitat destruction: a perfect example is the cute koala, which will be extinct by 2030 because its home is being cleared out to make space for… grass fed cattle! A great film to watch is Racing Extinction by Louie Psihoyos. Amazon rainforest destruction: the lungs of the planet are being destroyed at the crazy rate of an acre a second! 91% of the Amazon has been decimated for animal agriculture. Fresh water: it takes 2500-5000 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef. 50% of the water in the US is used for animal agriculture. Is that a sustainable practice on a planet plagued with drought? We don't think so!! Especially when a pound of quinoa, rice, greens or hemp can be produced using under 150 gallons of water. We are facing a frightening situation, and yet if everyone switched to a plant-based diet, Mother Earth would regenerate itself. "Our personal choices are actually really powerful", says Magda. The more people are inspired to eat more plants and less animals, the faster the world can heal. Magda's six-week program Conscious Eating 101 contains all the resources you need to start loving both yourself and Mother Earth. With recipes, videos, homework and books you can deepen your knowledge and transition into a healthier plant based diet. Be part of the solution. Honor Mother Earth and eat more plants! Ep 8282: How to go Gluten-Free with Emily Turner

E

Emily Turner, the blond behind the brand Gluten Free with Emily, is on the show to teach you everything you need to know about ditching gluten. Think gluten free living has to be boring and tasteless? Think again – Emily shows us how you can enjoy a delicious diet and improve your health with gluten free cooking. Motivated by a desire to prove that going gluten free can be both fun and easy, Emily founded Gluten Free with Emily to provide people with resources and recipes to help them remove this ingredient from their diet. She started making YouTube videos only two years ago, and is also working on a book. Emily is passionate about her business and works on it day by day to grow it into a success. "I know it will be really rewarding in the end." "If your digestion is off, everything is off," and the increase in people going gluten-free points to many people not feeling good. Even in tiny quantities, gluten can have a reactionary effect on the gut. "Sometimes more than people realize," says Emily. Gluten is only found in modern grains—ancient grains like rice, quinoa, amaranth, do not contain any. Wheat has been modified so drastically since the industrial revolution that the human body hasn't evolved to cope with it. Add to that GMO practices and you've got a substance that is impossible to digest. Wheat causes gut inflammation in everyone, not only those suffering from celiac or gluten allergy. This eventually leads to autoimmune diseases and other health issues. In fact, food has changed a lot in the last couple of decades, just look at the size of vegetables in shops these days! The way we've changed food has had a massive impact on people's health. Emily has celiac, which is an autoimmune disease triggered by eating gluten. Celiac isn't the same as a gluten allergy, though both share many symptoms and are managed by avoiding gluten. But thankfully, going gluten free doesn't have to mean a lifetime of boring food! "I wanted to make gluten free baked goods that actually taste amazing." Emily knows the baking element is really important to people and her recipes reflect this—we sampled some of her coconut chocolate caramel cookies during the show and OMG—AMAZING! When she became gluten free 14 years ago, Emily started to experiment with different flours – she has 15 different ones in her kitchen! Gluten free has become a bit of a buzz word of late—everyone seems to be doing it. But it's important to keep checking labels, because some of the ingredients used to replace gluten are far from healthy! A lot of gluten free options in the shops are really processed, so you might have a whole host of other issues to deal with. Emily encourages people to go back to whole foods—it doesn't have to be difficult, there are so many amazing recipes out there. The burning question for anyone thinking of going gluten free: how do I eat gluten free bread? Unfortunately, the bread situation is pretty sad. Emily has gluten free and grain free bread recipes on her website, but tries to steer people away from bread dependency. Many of the breads you can buy in the store are really processed, some even contain corn syrup! Lettuce wraps, leaf wraps, and nori rolls are all great alternatives to a wheat sandwich. Emily tells us all about why it's important to buy the best, freshest, highest quality produce possible, and why cooking in your own kitchen is better for your gut health. She also shares her favorite date spots for vegan, plant based and delicious food. Plus, find out how to make vegan, gluten-free strawberry pesto in just 5 minutes using only 6 ingredients!
