Angriest Trainer 260: Stephanie Person and Tim Reed

E

Vinnie and Anna talk to Stephanie Person about Dietary Ketosis, Intermittent Fasting, PMS, and being a Ketogenic Coach. Get inspired from Stephanie's You Tube Channel Vids. Check out Stephanie's Website for Consult Info and FAQs. From Stephanie: "I started educating myself regarding keto adaptation by trying to drive ketosis in my mother suffering from a terminal glioblastoma brain tumor. They give her 6 months to live which prompted me to take an aggressive approach to slow cancer growth. I dramatically lowered her carbohydrate intake and raised her dietary fats exponentially. Immediately my mothers cancer growth stopped. She is now in her 7th year of being cancer free After my mothers cancer remission from a low carb high fat diet prescription I then was ready to apply nutritional ketosis principles on myself. With success I was able to enter and maintain ketosis with incredible health improvements. After my incredible benefits of maintaing ketosis on myself I then I applied low carb, high fat principles on close friends. The success stories of better health continued in people around me. My next approach was my personal training clients. In a 2 year time period I was able to keto coach 8 subjects with 100% improvement in their weight loss goals. Today I have keto coached 84 for clients with amazing results. I set up a live consultation with the individual. I then find out what their goals are in trying to keto adapt, all health issues and prior failures in attempting to keto adapt on their own. The main concept I approach with importance to client is how stress plays as role in their failure to keto adapt." Then Vinnie and Anna welcome fat-adapted endurance athlete Tim Reed on the show to discuss going against the grain with endurance nutrition. Check out Tim Reed's website. Check out Time Reed on Facebook. From Tim: "I grew up on a small island, 'Lord Howe Island' but went to boarding school in Sydney. Took up triathlon in my final year of university to try and impress chicks and also because physiological testing suggested I was suited to endurance sport. After 2 years of winning a lot of amateur titles I turned pro in 2010 and have since had over 40 professional podiums, won an Australian title, kept my World Ironman 70.3 ranking in the top 5 for the last 2 years and finished 5th at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships last year. I'm a huge advocate for a high fat diet and specifically preach to athletes I coach and talk to about eating 'real' unprocessed food."

Anna talks all things natural beauty with Pink Moon Daily's Estelle Hayes, including how to start the transition to healthier beauty products (hint: start with Fragrance Free), how NSNG represents freedom, why anti-bacterial sanitizers are no bueno, and how some actresses are embracing natural beauty on the red carpet. Here is the link to the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Database to search for ratings on the products you use every day. Here's an article that Estelle wrote about her top favorite non-toxic sunscreens. Here's a blog post Estelle wrote about her personal journey to natural products. Below is a list of links and notes from Estelle herself, plus some affiliate links Anna created if you are interested in purchasing these products via amazon: JUICE BEAUTY: "I really like this brand (I've used the tinted moisturizer, face oil, and blush stick and have heard great things about the CC cream and liquid foundation." Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer, Sand, 2 fl. oz.Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair CC Cream, Natural Glow, 1.7 fl. oz.Perfecting Foundation - Organic Ivory 30g/1oz ILIA BEAUTY: "I have on one of their lipsticks and I LOVE it! They are the gold standard in clean lip products. I would highly recommend trying one of their colors to replace one of your go-to brands. Almost all mainstream lipsticks have been tested positive for lead and petrochemicals and a host of other crap you don't want anywhere near your body." ILIA Lipstick - Color - Wild ChildIlia Lipstick Crayon (Karma Chameleon) 100 PERCENT PURE: "I love a lot of their products. Bonus, they have a store in West Hollywood so you can go sample everything yourself before buying. I use their lip gloss (nice colors). I use their face moisturizer and eye cream every single day and love it. Also, their lavender hand cream is really nice. Some of their scents can be a little strong so I highly recommend testing before you buy. But they are a super clean brand and growing into a mainstream retail presence which makes it easier to sell my friends on switching to natural products." 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Glaze - Peach100% Pure Lip Gloss - Sheer Strawberry100 Percent Pure Nourishing Body Cream 8 oz. ACURE ORGANICS: O.k. we didn't get to this during our talk, but I cannot recommend it enough. I think of this brand as a gateway drug to clean living. It's pretty affordable, easy to find online or in Whole Foods and it's great for the entire family. My husband, daughter and I use the shampoo (Acure Organics, Shampoo, Pure Mint + Echinacea Stem Cell, 8 fl oz) and conditioner, I use the cleansing gel (ACURE Facial Cleansing Gel Superfruit + Chlorella, 4oz) for my face (it's nice and mild), I love their face oil as well. Look, Jessica Alba's company HONEST BEAUTY makes adorable eco-friendly diapers! The Honest Company Diapers Size 3 - Feathers And finally, another good brand for sunscreen: Suntegrity Skincare - Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen & Primer, Broad Spectrum SPF 30

About Chris Kostman: Chris Kostman got his start early in ultra sports: He set world ultra cycling records in high school in 1984 and 1985 (riding against the clock from San Francisco City Hall to Los Angeles Cith Hall) and completed the 3127-mile, eleven-day Race Across America bicycle race at age 20 in 1987. That was a springboard to competing in events as diverse as the Triple Ironman in France, the 6.5-mile Skaha Lake Ultra Swim in Canada, numerous winter ultras on mountain bike or snowshoes in Alaska, and scores of 24-hour mountain bike races and 200-mile or longer road bike races. This led to a career producing some of the toughest endurance events available through his company, AdventureCORPS. Hosted in Death Valley, on the slopes of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Laguna, Mt. Tam, and beyond, these events include multi-day cycling lifestyle camps, centuries and double century bicycle rides, the venerable Furnace Creek 508 bicycle race, and the world-famous Badwater Ultramarathon 135-mile foot race and its sister events, Badwater Salton Sea and Badwater Cape Fear. Chris has also published over 250 articles about the endurance world. He is trained and educated as an archaeologist and works part-time in that field, both undersea and on land in the Middle East and South Asia.
