#281 - Plundering the Archives

Laziness returns this week on the podcast after the craziness of last week’s five shows in five days. Would you belive that the podcast has been going for eight years this month? I mean, it’s not really been continuous… There have been fits and starts… But we soldier on. By way of “celebration” I thought I’d plunder the archives. On tonight’s show we have tracks that were played on the first shows of February through the last seven years. Yes, seven… I can’t find the playlist for the first show. As you can tell, I’m no archivist. Sorry posterity. I’ve tried to choose tracks that are still available to purchase (would you believe some of the links have died over the years), so if you haven’t got any of these yet, what are you waiting for? 1. Magnetic Island – “Shake the Fog [single]” (Played courtesy of Magnetic Island, Released under a Creative Commons licence) 2. The Son(s) – “Dogs, Boys & Men” (Played courtesy of The Son(s)) 3. #279 - Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

Gutted by the death yesterday of Mark E. Smith, front man of The Fall. I mean, I named the podcast after their classic song. For the longest time I was upset that the Google search result for “Edinburgh Man” returned the website for this shambling show at the top, instead of the song. Thankfully that’s been put to rights and the top result is now weirdly mirrored VHS footage of Mark wandering the city soundtracked by the track itself. As it should be. In tribute, perhaps, tonight’s show is all about repetition, repetition, repetition. 1. Jeffrey Lewis – “The Story of The Fall (Live)” (Played courtesy of Jeffrey Lewis)2. Ana Threat – “Johnny Reinprecht” (Played courtesy of Ana Threat, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. #278 - Podcast Exhaustion

I have let you down. I have fallen at the first (or the third) hurdle. I know that I promised you five live podcasts over five days, but I’m already suffering from podcast exhaustion and have basically broken myself. I suppose it was a bit foolhardy to attempt to do so many podcasts so late at night just after recovering from the flu. Anyway, I’m still going to give you five shows in five days… just not live. At least not today and maybe not tomorrow. But that still means more then half of them are live. So that’s not too bad, is it? 1. P.M.S – “Cocaine cunt” (Played courtesy of P.M.S, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. Ache – “New Interest ; Archery” (Played courtesy of Rizkan Records, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. Gail Something-Else – “Kerosene” (Played courtesy of Gail Something-Else)4. #277 - Christmas Chocolate Regret

My voice is still holding up for the second podcast of the week. But I have all the regret after eating a whole bag of chocolate coins left over from Christmas. Urgh. Apologies for the unexpected hiatus. Christmas + kids off school + kids ill + adults ill = slacker Edinburgh Man. I’ll make it up to you though. Five podcasts this week. Five. #275 - Festivish

A festive (ish) Christmas Eve podcast. It was supposed to be a festive (ish) Christmas Eve’s Eve podcast, but since it’s the holidays the washer / dryer broken down last night. Instead of recording the show I was taking apart a large electrical appliance and poking at its insides as if I had any idea about what was going on in there. So you get a Christmas Eve show. Hope you’re having a good one. I’m basically trying to figure out how to deal with a bucket full of dirty cloth nappies. Merry Christmas! 1. #274 - Max Strength

I was going to say that I forgot what it was like having a child at nursery, bringing every possible illness and infection back to the home. But I never forgot. I just blanked it out. So, today, I’m choked with the cold and surviving on generic brand Lemsip. Or rather “Max Strength Cold and Flu Relief Lemon Flavour Power for Oral Suspension”. Yum. Anyway, because of that and other reasons. with the exception of the introduction this is a chat free show. Check out the list below for links to where you can buy and download all the tracks featured. Hopefully next week my head will be back to normal and a proper show will be possible once more. 1. #272 - The Big TV

Seeing as how many of my old computers and games consoles don’t work too well with modern TVs I was excited to see a 22 inch Sony Trinitron going for free on Facebook. Went around to collect it and it turned out that it was a 29 inch monster. Nearly broke myself and the women who I collected it from getting it down the stairs and into the passenger seat of our (tiny) car. The service manual I found on the internet says that it’s 43kg… that’s nearly 100 lbs. So, the TV sat in the car for days and days until I bit the bullet and hired a moving trolley to get it into the house. Good news is that it works. Now for a bit of Sonic… 1. #271 - White Noise

YAMMP. Yet Another Monday Morning Podcast. This time, Thing 2 sleeps in the other room with the white noise generator (so that’s the hiss in the background if you can hear it). Your erstwhile host is nursing a headache and a lack of caffeine, so lots of relaxing music and not much chat. 1. entertainment for the braindead – “Gamble” (Played courtesy of entertainment for the braindead, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #270 - Tapes and Tapes

Another Monday morning podcast. Don’t get to used to this – you know what happens when the Edinburgh Man Podcast starts to follow a schedule. Thing 2 is down for a nap so just enough time to record and podcast before the first coffee of the day. Today many of the tracks are from releases that came out over the last couple of years. Why? I think Bandcamp have made some changes to their site so my special secret searches aren’t just picking up new releases. This is good news, however, because some of these got missed the first time around. Oh, and if you want to know why I’m rummaging in a box of cassettes (and one rogue minidisc) you’ll need to listen to the show. 1. Canker Blossom – “Satan” (Played courtesy of Canker Blossom, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. The Wednesdays (Bellingham) – “I Don’t Want Any Of It” (Played courtesy of MOOD, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. #269 - Monday Moka

Good morning! How’s about starting the week with an all new Edinburgh Man Podcast? Well, you’ve not really got a choice because here it is. Taking the opportunity to record a show while the flat is empty, apart from a small child sleeping in the next room. Hopefully he’ll remain asleep for the next 30 minutes of punk, garage rock and lo-fi folk. Plus enough time for me to make another pot of coffee. 1. #268 - Dusty Sours

The other week Dr Nic went out for the evening while I stayed at home looking after (sleeping) children. Scouring the house for booze I found this dusty bottle of Cointreau lurking at the back of the cupboard. Turns out that Cointreau and Tonic is a moderately acceptable drink. This evening, after recording the show I headed back to pour myself another, only to find that we were out of tonic! Neat Cointreau it is then… until… in the darkest recesses of the fridge I found some grapefruit beer. Yes. You heard. Chin-chin. 1. #267 - Getting Worse

Hey there podcast listeners. Apologies for today’s podcast. I recorded it last night but wasn’t happy with it so needed to do a wee bit of editing. It’s still below par (the music isn’t, just my bits). I’ve been suffering from a load of headaches recently which is dragging me down somewhat. I recorded this show at a time when the painkillers were wearing off so my head was pretty sore and fuzzy. Hence the rather fuzzy and rambling chat. I know what you’re thinking – what was your excuse before? Anyway, great music from the new Fresh album (love those guys), Plastic Animals (from last years album but I was a bit bummed out missing their gig last week) and a cover of Audrey’s Dance from Twin Peaks (no spoilers). 1. Aggi – “The Pains of Being Stupid at Heart” (Played courtesy of Rizkan Records, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #266 - Butt Dial

That’s my phone in the photo accompanying tonight’s podcast. Or rather that’s my two phones… The large Samsung one took a dive into the toilet at the IKEA babychange room at the weekend, so it’s currently drying out. The other one is my current replacement. A 2009 vintage iPhone 3GS which I’ve managed to send and receive text messages on… but very little works on it anymore. Isn’t technological obsolescence wonderful? Anyway, hopefully after washing, cleaning with alchohol and a few more days drying out, the real phone will return to service. And hopefully the smell will have gone by then. 1. Baker Island – “Write Home” (Played courtesy of Baker Island)2. DUMP HIM – “Route One, Saugus” (Played courtesy of DUMP HIM, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. #265 - Pizza and Ice Cream

In which I called Dog Park Dissidents Dog Park Descendents. Because, stupidity. Incredibly we managed to survive a trip to Italy with Edinburgh Man Junior and Thing 2. But only just. First of all it was hot. Both kids seemed to cope fine, the adults on the other hand were struggling. We actually went into the glasshouses in Padua botanical gardens TO COOL OFF! That said, returning back to a cold damp Edinburgh was just as tough. I’m really missing those sunny 34 degree days. In other news Edinburgh Man Junior basically ate his weight in Gelato and Pizza every day. Or maybe even ever hour. It’s a good job I made sure to practice saying “Gelato fragola per favore” over and over again before we left. 1. The Love-Inns – “Dust Factory” (Played courtesy of The Love-Inns, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #264 - Twin Sticks

I realise it seems like, both by the photo accompanying this post and by the words that come out of my mouth during the first podcast in a few weeks, that the lack of recent episodes are the result of me spending all my time watching Twin Peaks and playing The Legend of Zelda. This may be partially true, but really the fact there are now two small children to wake up the adults at Edinburgh Man towers at 6am each morning has broken me both physically and mentally. Any tiny bit of spare time I’ve had in the last few months has been spent sitting on the sofa in the evening trying to build up enough energy to get up and go to bed. But, the good (?) news is that I’ve bunked off work this afternoon and recorded a new show! Although annoyingly, five minutes in, two truck loads of builders turned up and started erecting scaffolding at the neighbour’s house. Apparently that basically involves hitting metal posts with hammers for pretty much the the exact duration of a podcast. 1. Pinegrove – “Old Friends” (Played courtesy of Pinegrove, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #263 - Illego

A podcast! Wait, is this thing still on? Why hasn’t there been a podcast for the last 2 weeks? Well, aside from playing with Lego I was ill, and then my computer was ill. But both are fit and well (more or less) this week, so let’s celebrate with an all new podcast. Although this time, I can’t hear my voice as a record it, so your host is going to be more awkward and uncomfortable than normal – if that is at all possible. 1. gummidge – “Backwards Forwards Dance” (Played courtesy of gummidge, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #262 - Edinburgh Man Zoo

No podcast last week on account of a throat infection, but everything is all sorted this week and we’re back with an eclectic mix of great music. Today itself was a very tiring day with Edinburgh Man Junior, who was off because his school was being used as a polling station. Somehow we managed to do the Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, and even a trip to the ballot booth in the same day. Although I’m not totally sure he understood the intricacies of Single Transferable Vote, to be honest. 1. #260 - Beach Holiday

Oh, my. We’re almost at the end of the two week Easter school holiday. Just as well, because I’m all but broken. Today was a full on Edinburgh Man and Edinburgh Man Junior day. No doubt as a result of the ice cream I caved in and allowed him to have at 10.15am this morning, he seems to have way more energy that I do. As a result, a pre-recorded podcast. By the time you download this I’ll be fast asleep in bed… 1. The Venomers – “Not my Doctor” (Played courtesy of The Venomers, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #259 - Elephant!

Oh hello. Here’s a picture of an elephant painted to look like a penguin. This is basically just to distracted you from the fact it’s been two weeks since the last podcast. Many apologies. But at least this week there is some great new music from The Moonlanderz, CHUMP, The Planes and Pelts. Plus a couple of fantastic live tracks by the Mountain Goats. See – that was worth waiting for, wasn’t it? 1. The Moonlandingz – “The Strangle Of Anna” (Played courtesy of Point Éphémère, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #258- Double Live

The regular live podcast is taking a couple of weeks break due to work commitments. Basically I’m spending the evenings interviewing people on Skype. I know, it sounds thrilling. I did think about doing it on the podcast but figured that might be considered unprofessional. Anyway, instead of the regular show I plunder the live music archive at archive.org to find some wonderful concert record that hopefully you’ve never heard before. This week, parts of two live sets from Elliot Smith and Mogwai, plus links so you can go and listen to and download the sets in full. 1. Elliott Smith – “Elliott Smith Live at Maxwell’s on 1999-12-30” (Played courtesy of archive.org)2. Mogwai – “Mogwai Live at Gothic Theatre on 2006-05-03” (Played courtesy of archive.org)

An earlier than normal podcast this week… Thing 2 woke up this morning at the terrifying time of 4am. Which I suppose is somewhat excusable for a 7-month-old. His brother, Edinburgh Man Junior, woke up an hour later at 5am. Just as we were getting back to sleep. This is less excusable. All of which has resulted in the live podcast being brought forward an hour due to extreme tiredness on the part of your host. Apologies for any confusion. The normal schedule should (hopefully) be resumed next week. 1. Die Handlung – “Berlin Mexikoplatz” (Played courtesy of Die Handlung, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. #255 - Wonky Mess

Last night’s podcast was a rambling shambolic mess, and I was so shattered afterwards that I didn’t even have the energy to upload it! So it’s a Friday morning update, for which I apologise. Yesterday was “World Book Day” and for some strange reason, Edinburgh Man Junior’s school is allowing pupils to eschew their school uniform and dress as their favourite character from literature (or just their regular clothes) today. I had a panic yesterday when I thought I’d sent him to school in his uniform and all the other kids would be dressed up, but no. Turns out his school is doing it today. Phew. All week he’s been saying he’d just being going in jeans and a t-shirt until last night when, with no time to prepare an outfit, he declared his desire to go as Willy Wonka. So this is the best me and his Mum could do given the time. A fake Wonka chocolate bar. Coupled with his best ripped jeans he can claim to be Charlie Bucket. That is until he eats all the chocolate, and we get a phone call from the school telling us he’s been sick in the playground. Next year I’m not going to listen to him and secretly prepare an outfit just in case… 1. #254 - Seven Year Itch

Just a couple of days ago I found myself wondering how long I’d been doing this podcast thing, so I decided to try and figure it out. And would you belive it? The podcast is seven years on this Saturday. Seven years! There’s nothing like a birthday to make you wallow in nostalgia, so that’s exactly what we’re doing on tonight’s show. I look back at every birthday the podcast has ever had, and play a track from the corresponding show. I through in a couple of extra tracks for good measure too. I was about to end with “here’s to another seven years”… but then realised I’d be an even old fart then than I am now, so maybe not. 1. #253 - Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na

Some poor technical planning this week has prevented a live podcast. So instead I’m recording this early on a Saturday morning while I try to recover from a intensive week of school holiday fun with Edinburgh Man Junior. We managed to do soft play, the zoo and the Lego Batman Movie over three days and now I just want to sleep. But no, it’s the weekend, so there are still two more days of craziness to go. 1. #252 - Domain

I’m all full of adrenaline and talking 100 miles per hour on today’s show. I tried to post a link to the live streaming page on Facebook earlier this evening only to discover that the show’s website had been redirected to a “domain parking” page. For a few minutes, I was totally terrified that I’d let the domain expire and was about to get blackmailed thousands of pounds to get it back. In the end, it was some random DNS issue, but my heart was still pounding by the time it came to record the show. A show which… I really enjoyed doing! What I mean is, I forgot how much fun the live shows are. Thanks to everyone who listened and tweeted at me. Please fee free to join in the fun(?) each Thursday at 9pm. 1. #251 - Live Alive

It’s the first live podcast in ages! Actually, it’s the first podcast in ages… well, in a month. But it feels like a year or two since the last live one. I find myself wondering, did I used to need so many wires to do a live show? Anyway, we got through it and it was quite enjoyable. People listened. One person tweeted at me. Once. So all in all, I consider it a success. Same time next week? 1. Rat Cage – “Pressure Pot” (Played courtesy of http://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com)2. Best of 2016

It’s Hogmanay, so that means I’ve just managed to scrape together the infamous Edinburgh Man best of the year show at the last possible minute. As with last year, the tracks have been chosen by myself. It’s not because I don’t trust the public to vote for the right answers (although if 2016 has taught us anything…) it’s because I left it too late to do anything else. Also, in what is quickly becoming an Edinburgh Man tradition, I have an incredibly painful sore throat. So not much chat, and lots of music. See you 2016 – don’t call us… 1. #250 - Super Smash Hits

Edinburgh Man Junior has a new obsession – Super Smash Brothers Melee on the Nintendo GameCube. You see, his dad has worked in video games for quite some time, and as a result has amassed an array of video games consoles from years gone by. For some unknown reason all this retro hardware is very attractive for small children, and at the weekend Edinburgh Man Junior asked to play “video games”€. We went through quite a selection until we found Smash Brothers, but the wee man was hooked straight away. I mean, Pikachu AND Mario? What’s not to like? Anyway, his actual method of playing is somewhat original. If only I could attach a video instead of an image to the podcast. It’€™s basically like he’€™s using the Wii Fit, except without the balance board. He jumps around and acts out the moves while playing the game. I wonder how long before he puts his arm through the TV..? 1. Subsumer – “Swamp Fire” (Played courtesy of Subsumer, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. Edinburgh Man #249

Listeners to last week’s show will recall that I recorded it in the car outside Edinburgh Man Junior’s school while he was on stage for the first performance of his nativity play. I say first performance, it seems like that’s all they’ve been doing at school for the last couple of weeks. Endless rehearsals and dress rehearsals for audiences of other years in the school. At least I got to see it myself on Thursday. Was it worth the wait..? Hmmm… Maybe..? Edinburgh Man Junior spent most of it sat on the edge of the stage in a donkey outfit looking rather bored. Now and again he’d wave furiously at me or twiddle with a bit of string. Looking forward to next year already. 1. Edinburgh Man #248

I’ve finally managed to find the time to record a podcast! As I wait in the car outside Edinburgh Man Junior’s school while he takes part in his primary school nativity play. I know what you’re thinking – surely I should be in there watching him. Well, maybe. Although I do have tickets for tomorrow’s performance. Hopefully by then they’ll have perfected their lines. Anyway, tonight’s podcast is recorded on my laptop, so the quality is somewhat poor. It’s not helped by the fact I don’t actually know where the in-built microphone is. So basically I’m sitting in my car, in the dark, shouting in the general direction of my laptop screen. 1. Edinburgh Man #247

Good morning, and welcome to the weekend! Time for a coffee? I’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to record a podcast every week. There’s something about juggling two small people that seems to take up a bunch of time. Anyway, this morning in an act of quality parenting I plopped Edinburgh Man Junior down in front of Transformers, and Thing 2 is being subdued with a white noise generator app. Giving me just enough time to record show 247. A late podcast, due to 1) illness and 2) an ill-advised halloween costume building exercise that consumed way too much of my spare time. Edinburgh Man #245

At Edinburgh Man Towers we are currently trying to get used to something that we’ve never had to experience before – school holidays. Just when we were starting to get used to this crazy new routine, a spanner is thrown in the form of the October break. One week (and a day) of child juggling excitement. To get away from all this, Thing 2 and I made our escape yesterday morning, armed with a baby carrier, suitably hipster reading material and a fully completed reward card for Brew Lab. But the good news is that for the first time in 2 months I’ve had a good night’s sleep. I actually feel relaxed. Will this make for a less shambolic episode of the podcast? Hmmmm… probably not. 1. The cover photo has no relevance to this week’s podcast whatsoever. It was basically the only photo I’ve taken in the last week, so it’s won out by default. It depicts Edinburgh Man Junior standing in front of a large outdoor screen hidden away beside a set of steps deep in Edinburgh’s old town. The key takeaway here is that I’ve had virtually no time to put together this show. That’s basically the story of my life right now. For about 20 minutes each day I get a tiny chance to sit down and breathe before it all kicks off again. Oh. That’s just reminded me – school’s off for the October break next week. Sigh. 1. Last week I got an email from Steve Palmer – he’s just released a great podcast called “Down’s With The Kids” which you should check. Steve pointed me at an article in the online version if the I newspaper which listed this show. Yes this show. Edinburgh Man. As one of “the podcasts you should be listening to”. I mean, what? In their defence, they did refer to it as “shambolic”. And just to prove them correct, this show is the most shambolic in a while. Marvel as I fail to be able to read the most basic text from bands websites or press releases. I have had very little sleep mind you… I’m basically running on empty tonight. But then, I do have a shambolic reputation to keep. 1. Blurg. I’m so sleep deprived today. Dr Nic and I thought we were being sensible by going to bed super early last night. Like 9.30pm or something. But after Thing 2’s first nighttime waking at 1.30am I didn’t get back to sleep. I tried my trusty Murakami audio book but it didn’t do anything. Eventually, I fell asleep at 6.25am. Only to be woken up 5 minutes later by Edinburgh Man Junior jumping into bed. Argh. So basically, zzzzzzzzzzzzz. 1. Baker Island – “Demolishing The Fourth Wall” (Played courtesy of Baker Island)2. The fourth show in our exciting week of nonstop podcasts! Tonight’s show was originally scheduled for early August, just before the final release from one of my favourite record labels – Soft Power Records. ANOTHER podcast! Also, good news everyone – much more sleep was had last night, especially by myself. In fact, partly because I went to bed early, I had a normal (ish) amount of sleep. This, coupled with the fact that (at last) I’ve figured out how to make the office coffee machine produce a decent espresso, I’m feeling pretty good. The tracks for today’s show were chosen back in July, and to be honest I’ve been rather preoccupied since then, so this is a journey of musical discovery for me as well as you. Let’s get started. 1. It only feels like yesterday that I recorded a podcast… how time flies. Today the sleep deprivation really takes over. The effects of Mum and Dad watching the Olympics through the night while feeding Thing 2 during the first two weeks of his life seemed to be kicking in. Judging by the noises that he makes I can only imagine that he’s dreaming of being a championship shot putter. Grunts and groans all night long. On top of that, Thing 1 decided to wake multiple times throughout the night and jump on top his sleeping parents. Not even my trusty Murakami audiobook got me back to sleep. So yeah, this show is a bit zzzzzzzzz… 1. Oh hello. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Guess what, tonight the podcast returns from paternity leave. So basically I’m somewhat sleep deprived and the whole thing is slightly more shambolic than normal. The good news, however, is that I compiled this playlist of songs ages ago, so at least I didn’t have to do much prep for the show. It appears I have music for 4 other shows ready to go to. So why don’t we do something crazy? A podcast each day of this week to catch up. Podcasts for everyone! 1. I’ve discovered a problem with recording these shows in advance. Yes, by and large it means that the it’s easier to produce a regular show, but I really should write the blog post at the same time as I record it. Because I’ve no idea what rambling nonsense I talked about this week. Judging by the photo it must have been something about shoes. Or walking. Or odours? I dunno. Legs, legs and legs… IKEA legs as far as the eye can see. I’ve been building desks today. Loads of them. Did you know there are 20 screws per IKEA desk? That seems rather excessive. And why does my phone keep capitalising IKEA? On today’s show – mostly new music with a couple of notable exceptions. You remember I made that “audiophile” podcast a few weeks ago? And you remember that I planned to make some more? Well, I never did. I only got as far as making a playlist with two tracks. One by the Throwing Muses, and one by Meursault. The podcast returns! Apologies for the absence. First of all, we went away for a long weekend in the middle of June. I probably should have mentioned this because we intentionally hid from the Internet and tried to chill out for 5 days. And then we came back amid all this brexit referendum nonsense. On the day of the referendum I couldn’t face making a podcast, and the week after I still wasn’t in the mood. All this was combined with the fact work was pretty busy up until the end of the month. Anyway, all that’s behind us. The country may be spiralling out of control but at least the podcast is back. Today’s show is a mixture of old-ish stuff (this will be explained on the show) and new tracks, including Kristin Hersh’s 50FOOTWAVE and Edinburgh’s Miracle Glass Company. 1. A special (ish) audiophile (ish) episode of the podcast! Basically for some anal reason I’ve recently been re-ripping all my CDs at the best quality bitrate I can (while still maintaining an acceptable size). I’ve also been going through backup disks attempting to find the original versions of many many music downloads to go back to the versions before iTunes Match crummyfied them. As I was doing this I pondered the rubbish bitrate and multiple transcoding steps the music I play on the show goes through, and felt pretty bad. I’m not really showcasing all this great music at its best, so I thought I’d make a special audiophile episode of the show. Presented in 320kbps glory. Nothing has been transcoded here, no audio filtering or compression has been applied. Apologies for the download size! 1. Jonnie Common – “Faster Stronger Washer Dryer” (Played courtesy of Song by Toad Records)2. Alligator Indian – “Telepathic Boys” (Played courtesy of Alligator Indian / Bleeding Gold Records, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. The Give It Ups – “God Only Knows Where The Time Goes” (Played courtesy of The Give It Ups)4. Lowpines – “Give Me A Horse (Bonus Track)” (Played courtesy of EardrumsPop, Released under a Creative Commons licence)5. Lizard Kisses – “Slow Bones” (Played courtesy of Lizard Kisses / Beko DSL, Released under a Creative Commons licence)6. The Second Hand Marching Band & Benni Hemm Hemm – “Grandstanding” (Played courtesy of The Second Hand Marching Band)

Edinburgh Man #233

I must admit I was a bit disingenuous in this week’s podcast – I said I put the playlist together while riding through the rainy streets of Edinburgh on the bus. That’s not quite true. I chose most of the tracks a week ago but it wasn’t until today that I actually downloaded all the tracks thanks to the surprising reliable free bus WiFi! On today’s show a recent release from Colour Me Wednesday, a great indie-pop track from Fort Worth’s The Crystal Furs and a track from the fantastic new album by Edinburgh’s Book Group. 1. PLASTIC HEAP – “STRUGGLING” (Played courtesy of PLASTIC HEAP, Released under a Creative Commons licence)2. high pop – “lawn chair” (Played courtesy of high pop, Released under a Creative Commons licence)3. Colour Me Wednesday – “Don’t Tell Anyone” (Played courtesy of Colour Me Wednesday, Released under a Creative Commons licence)4. Lake Michigan – “Harbor” (Played courtesy of Z-Tapes, Released under a Creative Commons licence)5. The Crystal Furs – “Capture You” (Played courtesy of The Crystal Furs, Released under a Creative Commons licence)6. The Hungry Onions – “Fortune Teller” (Played courtesy of The Hungry Onions, Released under a Creative Commons licence)7. Book Group – “The Art Of Underachieving” (Played courtesy of Book Group)
