Stats SA says SA's economy grew by 1,6% in the third quarter of 2022
Statistics South Africa released the gross domestic product figure for the third quarter. The results show that after contracting by 0,7% in the second quarter of 2022, the economy rallied in the third quarter, showing the economy grew by 1,6 percent . Advice for scrap metal dealers as 6-month ban on scrap metals comes into effect
Government has implemented a six-month ban on the export of copper and other scrap metals. The ban is an effort to clamp down on the illegal trade of the scrap metals, as well as to curb vandalism of public infrastructure and cable theft. Speaking to members of the media on Wednesday, Minister of trade, industry and competition, Ebrahim Patel said copper and scrap metal theft at the country's SOEs robs the economy of about R47-billion annually. Suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane wants the two evidence leaders in the Section 194 hearings, Nazreen Bawa and Ncumisa Mayosi to be removed. Mkhwebane, through her legal counsel Dali Mpfu, says the main ground for her application is the disclosure of fees by the evidence leaders, paid to certain advocates. This is the second application for the recusal of the evidence leaders. The first was brought by UDM leader Bantu Holomisa, last month. Murder convict, Nthuthuko Shoba has been denied leave to appeal his life sentence for orchestrating the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Tshegofatso Pule. Pule was eight-months pregnant when she was killed by Muzikayise Malepane - a man hired by Shoba. Shoba'ss defence lawyer believes a higher court could come to a different conclusion about some facts. Hitman Muzikayise Malepane's testimony formed part of crucial state evidence against Shoba during the trial.
