Collapse of EFF - IFP coalition in KZN sees all EFF deputy mayors resign across the province

The Economic Freedom Fighters in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that all the party's deputy mayors who were serving in coalition with the Inkatha Freedom Party, have indeed resigned. Last week, EFF leader, Julius Malema announced that the coalition agreement between the red berets and the IFP had collapsed. EFF chair in the province, Mongezi Twala has told SABC News that the party's councillors have also submitted letters of resignation to their provincial Secretaries. 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index sees SA drop to number 43 in 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index

The 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) shows that most countries are failing to stop corruption. The CPI paints a discouraging story for South Africa as the country slips one point in the rankings of the leading global index measuring perceptions of public sector corruption around the world. Now ranked at 43, the country is back where it started in 2012, with very little upward movement over the past decade. Judge in Zuma corruption trial recuses himself from the matter

The presiding judge in the corruption trial of former President Jacob Zuma has recused himself from the matter, as the case continues in the Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal. In adjourning the trial last October, Judge Piet Koen asked the State and the Defense to make written submissions on whether he should recuse himself as the trial judge. This came as Zuma, objected against Advocate Billy Downer leading the prosecution. Koen said while the decision was hard to make, his intention was to preserve the integrity of the court process beyond criticism.

Police top brass visits families of 8 people gunned down in mass shooting in Gqeberha

Police Minister, Bheki Cele has arrived in Gqeberha to visit the house and families of those that were gunned down and killed yesterday in KwaZakhele Township in the Eastern Cape. The Democratic Alliance leader in Gauteng, Solly Msimanga has accused ActionSA of a wanting to initiate a reverse take over of the Johannesburg Metro council. United Nations joins growing voices following murder of eSwatini human rights lawyer

The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has added his voice to growing international condemnation following the murder of leading Eswatini human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko over the weekend. His death came after King Mswati the Third warned those calling for democracy in the kingdom that his mercenaries would deal with them. African National Congress President, Cyril Ramaphosa says he has requested that Eskom consider postponing the implementation of the latest energy tariff increase. The National Energy Regulator (NERSA) recently approved Eskom's electricity tariff increase application by 18-point-six-five per cent for the 2023-2024 financial year. Gauteng police nab 6 in suspected kidnapping syndicate

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has commended a multi-disciplinary team for the arrest of six men believed to be part of a syndicate that has been terrorising business owners in Gauteng. The suspects have been linked to at least 16 cases following surveillance operations led by Crime Intelligence Officers and Organised Crime members. The group was arrested after a businessman was rescued in Johannesburg. During the arrest police confiscated five luxury vehicles, twenty cellphones and thirty portable GPS tracking devices. 7 Northern Cape farm workers die following heat stroke

At least 7 people have died due to heatstroke with at least one on a ventilator and recovering in the Kakamas Hospital in the Northern Cape.
