In this episode, I talk about the rise of viral promposals where non-disabled people ask disabled teens to the prom in high school or middle school and have it recorded and it goes viral or gets picked up by the news outlets. I share why I think this is problematic in all the ways and why I think we need to reconsider our consumption of "digital ableism" and promposals, and suggest that the disabled person may feel differently about the whole thing, and that the media must also focus on them. In this first episode of 2018, we look at how gym culture and the pursuit of the gym cut body we all want so we can have "better sex" aligns with (or totes doesn't) with disability culture. I share some of my experiences at the gym as a queer cripple, we can giggle at how inaccessible some of the workouts for better sex actually are, and I suggest that fucking a cripple might even be a better work out. I discuss how my father turned me into a "clingosaurus cripple". I also talk with Danny Kodmur about what being clingy as a disabled person means for him.

Our conversation is light and fun, but also touches on the fact that the disabled and poz communities have one big thing in common: we both face stigma and we need to work together to change that.

This was a tough episode to record. In light of all the sexual assault stories coming out, I felt it was necessary to talk about how disabled people deal with consent, sexual harassment and sexual assault. In this episode, I share some moments of things that happened to me. It wasn't easy sharing this stuff, but I felt it was important. This isn't an episode you should enjoy, but you should give pause and think. There will be another episode about this with a panel of other disabled people discussing consent soon enough.

I talk about how I feel about some of this advice and whether or not I believe the advice holds up in the real-life disabled flirting scenarios... p.s. I dont think the advice does. I talk about my feelings around "Be Yourself" and "Be Bold" advice as a disabled person. I suggest that the onus to "be bold", etc. really shouldn't be placed on the disabled individual. Just some thoughts.

This episode had me riled up and angry about the way the media ran stories from parents of children with disabilities without the children's consent. I focus on 2 stories here about two parents who consider hiring sex workers for their sons to experience sex. I had lots of things to say about that (mostly angry things), and I also touch on disability activists Carly Findlay and Kim Sauder's thoughts on the matter.
