Surprise!!!! We think it as because of the decor and colors of the room itself. What did you pick? When hanging a trio of pictures and two were the same size and one was smaller how would you hang it. Most people like the smaller picture in the middle of the two larger pictures. And most people love a tri of pictures rather than one small or two together. It's all about the rule of 3. Symmetry is usually most pleasing to the eye. And bigger is usually better! Does your home exude character? Does it have a look all its own? Adding character to your home no matter what style will make your home one in a million! Today let's talk about what we can do to add character to our homes. One way to do add character is to replace the doorknobs and look for vintage ones like crystal. Look for little things to add to your home like a tassel hanging from a doorknob or lamp. Add shutter to the back of your home and replace a solid door with one that has windows. Add the street address to a transom or sidelights of your door. You can have it painted on or use frosted details. I have the letter "P" on one of the sidelights and it's just a frosted decal. No one is the wiser... until now! Molding is a great thing to add to your home to give it a more custom look! Replace hollow inside doors with great solid wood ones. Add ceiling medallions to your chandeliers. Add planking to your walls or ceilings. Walk around your home and make a list of all the little details you could add to add character to your home. If you have wall to wall carpeting on your stairs you might want to think about ripping it out and painting the stairs or if you have good wood underneath the carpet and add a flat pile runner. Add a french chair Add a statement piece to each room. Find a vintage mantel and fake a fireplace. Update your chandeliers. Paint ceilings a different color. SOMETHING IS MISSING?! FIGURE IT OUT!!!!! Do you ever walk into a room in your home and say to yourself, "Something is missing"? But you just don't know what it is. Don't worry we've all said that too! And we want to give you lots of tips and things to think about to solve this problem like Sherlock Holmes! Our best tip is to take a picture of your room. A picture gives us a better perspective of our rooms and can often show us what is "off". Do you have too many little pieces and things in your room? It better to have less and often better to have larger items. Too many things in a room make it look cluttered! Think "larger and less"! Does everything in your room works together? Give your room a cohesive and curated look. You may have great furnishing but they may not work together! Don't overdecorate! Rooms need "white space" or breathing space to work! Take out some things in a room and rearrange what you are keeping and see how it looks. Another thing to think about is the height of everything in your room. If everything is low or all the same height it will look "off" at best. Use tall art, long curtains and even a tall piece of furniture to help your eye move up around the room. Boo Hoo... make sure your room does not lack your personality! A sad room is a room without a personal touch. Let your style shine! Even the most beautiful furniture showroom looks stark! Share what you collect or add things that tell a story about you! Texture, texture, texture baby!!!! Make sure you have lots and lots of great texture in a room. Kelly loves mirrors and thinks a mirror should grace every room. Balance and symmetry are so important. Make sure the furniture on one side of the room is balanced by the other. Make sure you have a clearly defined focal point. More than one can fight and none at all will look confusing. Layer decor. But don't layer every part of a room. After you layer decor make sure to take one or two things out and see if you like it better! But do layer! Get friendly with Pinterest. Study rooms you love and deconstruct it. Cocktail or Coffee Table? What do you call it? No matter what you call it we have lots of great tips and measurement and good ideas for you today! If you have a tape measurer it can help you find the perfect coffee table that will work in your home. Measure the top of the seat height, the length of your sofa and the height of your coffee table. A coffee should be about the seat height of your sofa cushions, about 2/3 the length of your sofa. Leave about 12 - 18 inches between a sofa and a coffee table.
