When we see images on pinterest and instagram, it can be a wonderful inspiration for future projects, we get ideas but there's a dark side to the social media. Sometimes we begin to hate our houses because they don't measure up. Here are our tips to be content with your home and to make everyday life in your home a joy. keep your house tidy keep the clutter at bay keep it picked up start some new habits to keep it clean clutter causes stress - bring every room back to 'ready' make your bed display some sentimental items or favorite collections around your home Focus on things you can take with you, if you think you are moving, but there is no need to ignore your home if you are moving think about the positives about your home, rather than the negatives. what drew you to it in the first place? fix the things that are broken make sure you have a comfortable mattress and seating add beauty to your every day life. So if that kitchen sponge looks so gross you don't want to touch it, toss it! get a new sponge make sure you have some nice things to use for your daily routine add a special area for relaxing, reading, a cup of tea or listening to music use essential oils in your home make your bedroom into a retreat invite people over, entertain and have fun in your home start a gratitude journal record a happy memory at the end of each day don't have a temporary attitude about your home. What Trends are Done? Let's talk about the trends that are over. Remember when buying trendy decor, it's best to not spend too much on home decor trends. If it's super hot today, then it will be out in a few years. You don't want to be ripping out your kitchen counter top every 5 years or even your sofa. Yes, it's really our 300th episode. Wow, how time flies. Are you a collector? Do you have a passion for dishes, or linens or something else? Let's talk about how to collect without becoming a hoarder. What are the do's and don'ts of collecting? First, try to curate your collections so that you just have your favorite pieces, the best of the best. You don't need a hundred items to make it a curated collection. Next try to do a write up on the items for future generations. Why are you collecting the items? What is their importance to you or your family? Make a note of anything of a large monetary value so your family will know. If you suspect your collection is worth a lot of money, have it appraised, then consider securing a rider on your insurance policy for the items, so they will be covered in case of loss. We also encourage people to display their items and if possible, use them. I collect dishes, and I try to use them often. Boxing things and putting them in the attic is not a good way to enjoy them. Let's declutter and get our homes ready for the new year. If you want to feel more peaceful and you're ready to clear out the extra stuff, then this is your episode. Firstly, please find someone to give your discards to. If you have old towels or blankets, check with your local humane society to see if they will take them. We try to give away the things that someone else might want, to minimize things going into a landfill. Secondly try to do a declutter at least once a year. If you don't the job will become too overwhelming and you won't even want to start it. Put like things together, that way you'll be able to find things and know where everything is. Now you will be less likely to accidentally buy something you already have. If you find you have 500 envelopes (like I did) give them away. Who needs that many envelopes these days? I just did a major declutter in my home and it feel so good to be able to find things now. We're doing a 10 day declutter challenge, so if you want to join us, send us an email letting us know you want to be included.
