Between October 1978 and October 1992, several women were murdered across various states including Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia whose bodies were abandoned along major US highways. What do all these women have in common? Almost all of these murders were of redheaded women. Could the connection between their deaths be a coincidence or the work of one serial killer? Andrea Knabel was a fixer. She cared about people and wanted desperately to help them. That help took the form of being mothering to her younger sisters, of defending those she called a friend, of reminding people of their own strength when facing tough times, of bringing laughter to brighten the darkest of days. Now it is Andrea who needs the help, as she went missing on August 13th, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky, after walking to her mother’s house during the early morning hours. Tiffany Valiante had just graduated from high school and was looking forward to attending Mercy College in the fall, where she had been awarded a volleyball scholarship. The night of July 12th, 2015, after a small disagreement with her parents, Tiffany wandered away from her parent’s home, leaving her cell phone behind. Immediately, her family began searching for her. In the early morning hours of July 13th, Tiffany’s uncle approached some police officers working a train accident. It was then that he learned there had been a victim of that accident–a young woman on the tracks who had been hit by the train. It was his niece, Tiffany. Her death was quickly ruled a suicide and the case was closed. However, Tiffany was found shoeless and only partially dressed; her shoes were later discovered some distance away yet her feet were clean. Could her death, instead, have been the result of foul play? Please consider joining Tiffany’s family in fighting for further investigation into the case by urging the New Jersey Attorney General to reopen the investigation; to do so, please consider signing their change.org petition found here. It was Monday, December 16th, 1974. Henry Bedard, Jr. had gone right after school to buy a final Christmas present for his sister and was on his way home. Several people saw Henry on his walk back, even though he was not taking his normal route home. But he never made it home at all. When a group of young boys playing along the route stumbled upon a wallet and a bottle of perfume, they hid the items so they could return to the spot and get them later. However, when they returned to the spot, they made a far more gruesome discovery. Etsy Merch Shop: Want your own C&C clothing or mug? The reboot of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix, focused the first episode on the suspicious death of Rey Rivera on May 16th, 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. While law enforcement quickly ruled Rivera’s death a suicide, such a ruling (at its core) discounts many statistical improbabilities and ignores glaring questions. This week, Allison and Maggie delve deep into the case, exploring details not aired on the Unsolved Mysteries episode, to determine the most likely cause of Rey Rivera’s untimely death. In the early 70s, no fewer than six young girls were abducted from the streets of Washington, D.C. Their bodies were discovered weeks to sometimes only hours later, most discovered along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Prince George's County, Maryland. Since the answer to who might have been behind the crimes remained elusive, he was assigned a name to represent that evasiveness-- the Freeway Phantom. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

For thirteen months from 1966 to 1967, a creature (or creatures) terrorized several small communities across Ohio and West Virginia, particularly the West Virginia town of Point Pleasant. The stories that come from witnesses to the phenomena are the stuff of nightmares, so much so that they were later made into a hit film. Was this all just a big media storm and all hogwash? Some say it was another example of mass hysteria, of people buying into a myth. Do you agree? Or will you even allow yourself to believe even a small portion of the stories to be true? It was supposed to be a fun day at the park when Noema, along with her 3-year-old son, met both her 5-year-old daughter and her 8-year-old sister at the bus stop after school. She took the kids to get ice cream before heading to Bridgeton City Park in New Jersey on September 16th, 2019. The night of October 24, 1953, was a busy one in La Crosse, Wisconsin as La Crosse State College was celebrating homecoming weekend. Fifteen-year-old Evelyn Hartley had accepted a babysitting job for a local college professor and had just settled down to do some school work when the Rasmussen family had left her in the care of their 20-month-old daughter. But, when Evelyn didn't call her parents at 8:30 to check in with them as she had promised to do, her father grew concerned. Even more alarming was when he arrived at the Rasmussen home to find signs of an apparent break-in yet no sign of his daughter. The investigation into Claudia Lawrence’s disappearance first appeared as though it would be one that could be quickly solved. What happened to Charles “Chuck” Morgan in the spring and summer of 1977 seems the stuff of nightmares— abductions (yes, plural), poison, fear so great that it involves the constant wearing of a bulletproof vest, spies, organized crime, coded messages, and finally… murder. As if those elements aren’t strange enough, nearly every new development in this case will leave those hearing the story scratching their heads in both amazement and confusion. When Chris Thompson approached his employer’s home around 9 am on the morning of August 15th, 2002 in the small town of Oak Level, Virginia, he expected his boss to step out of the home, ready to go with Chris to pick up the new business truck. What Chris discovered, instead, was that his boss, Michael Short, had been shot, seemingly as he slept on the couch in his garage. When police arrived at the scene, they found Michael’s wife, Mary, in the couple’s bed, had also been shot. The couple’s nine-year-old daughter, Jennifer, was missing. A search commenced for the missing child, an Amber Alert was created, and news stations flashed her picture-- all hoping that she would be found alive and well. As weeks passed, police explored various leads from a stalker, to a stranger, to a disgruntled customer, and even explored theories spawned by the rumor mill in hopes of solving the crime and bringing Jennifer safely home. Unfortunately, on September 25th, 2002, thirty miles away in Rockingham County, North Carolina, fragments of human remains were discovered that later were verified to be those of young Jennifer. She too had been shot. Who could have committed such a heinous crime and what was their motive, especially since money (around $600) remained on the kitchen counter inside the Short family home untouched? Will those who have information, as local law enforcement has indicated that they do, finally be willing to share the details they recall that could lead to justice? And will YOU share about this case and help push for answers and closure? The fall semester was nearing its end in 1998 for Yale senior, Suzanna Jovin. On the evening of December 4th, she was at a pizza party celebrating with her friends in the Best Buddies program with plans to then head back to her place to work on final revisions to her senior thesis-- all while looking forward to finally getting some glorious sleep when all the work was complete. However, less than 90 minutes after leaving the pizza party, she was found brutally murdered. Police quickly honed in on a suspect but have since publicly admitted that the individual is no longer considered a suspect (and was awarded a monetary settlement for even being named as one). All clues pointed toward this being a crime of passion-- but who could have harbored such ill-will toward the beautiful, intelligent, and empathetic Suzanne? \ Use my special link zen.ai/coffeeandcases and use coffeeandcases to save 30% off your first three months of Zencastr professional. #madeonzencastr Learn more about your ad choices. However, when other crew rushed to aid those on board the ship only to find that not a single person was visible on deck nor actively trying to extinguish the flames, they knew something more more sinister than a fire was at play. There is something bittersweet about growing up. For the child, they step into new roles with new responsibilities. They learn to earn trust from the adults in their lives. In return, the adults have to let go just a little of the baby they have raised. They watch with tears in their eyes as some of the innocence of their child slips away into a teen and one day adult. It’s hard, but it is life. We never think it’ll be my child. That’s what made it so unbelievable for 12-year-old Sherry Marler’s mother and step-father to think that their “little farmer” had simply disappeared from their quaint, small town.
