Imagine how hard it must be to have a job where you hold the fate of someone in your hands. Think about all of the enemies you may make along the way and how terrifying that must be. What’s even more terrifying is to think that some people would seek revenge on the people who have judged them, and sometimes they carry out their revenge so masterfully that we are left to wonder if it were an accident or if it were murder. When a train coming through Benton, Arkansas, ran over two young men on the tracks in the early morning hours of August 23rd, 1987, law enforcement seemed immediately convinced that this was an accident or a double-suicide. The medical examiner ruled their deaths an “accident.” However, after a legal battle headed by the parents forced a re-examination of details from the scene as well as a second autopsy, their deaths were ruled “probable homicide.” In addition to the normal cold case question of who could possibly have hurt 16-year-old Don Henry and 17-year-old Kevin Ives, in this case, we also have much larger questions: why is no one, even today, willing to investigate this case as a murder? And, if Kevin’s mother, Linda, were right and the unwillingness to investigate is part of a cover-up, how far up the ladder does the corruption go?
