S8 Ep 1441Signs Of Emotional Intelligence (3 of 4) - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 12-26-24 #1441
“Send Coach John a message”Found some powerful & difference making points of having emotional intelligence. There are 12 of them, so I’m breaking them down into 4 parts. All of this comes from Always Keep Learning (@AlwaysKeepL) and it’s called “12 Real World Signs you're emotionally intelligent”. Emotional Intelligence is a very strong indicator for all of us to have a better life. This third set of three are apologizing sincerely and accepting responsibility for our actions, understanding that bad days don’t define people and navigate uncomfortable conversations with compassion. This will be a great 4 part series of some very helpful life ideas about some valuable skills we all need to have. Thanks for listening. Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show. All of this comes from Always Keep Learning (@AlwaysKeepL) and it’s called “12 Real World Signs you're emotionally intelligent”. Emotional Intelligence is a very strong indicator for all of us to have a better life. These second three are checking in with yourself on your feelings, setting boundaries in relationships to protect your energy and to listen to understand and not just respond. S8 Ep 1439Signs Of Emotional Intelligence (1 of 4) - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 12-24-24 #1439
These first three are staying calm when others lose their cool, sensing when a friend needs some space and managing frustrations without taking it out on others. This will be a great 4 part series of some very helpful life ideas about some valuable skills we all need to have. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1438Not Just For Students - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 12-23-24 #1438
“Send Coach John a message”Lessons from a basketball coach, who again, is really an educator - and educators are needed all throughout life. This message is not just for students, but really for all of us. Coach Tom Crean (@TomCrean) says “Students: 1. There is always someone who gets left out. You can be the one to bring them in. 2. Your kindness is strength. Not a weakness. 3. Your own confidence grows when you are helpful to someone else. You brighten someone’s day and it brightens yours too.” Again, I’m seeing these lessons are for all of us. Maybe the world needs to see these lessons as important enough to try and get going on. I guess I’m feeling the importance of simply putting these things out there more and more and hopefully others will see them, take them to heart and do their part to spreading it around. S8 Ep 1437Spend Your Life With These - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1437
“Send Coach John a message”Got a great reminder for one of the important lessons in life - coming from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Life's so short. Spend it with friends who make you laugh and feel loved.” It’s a great time of year to reflect on things like this and then try to put them into action each and everyday, not just during the holidays. I am also reminded that I need to be this person for others as well. Once again, the world would be a lot better if more people took this to heart & the world needs anyone and everyone to take this to heart. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1436Preparation Matters - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 12-20-24 #1436
“Send Coach John a message”Saw an amazing post that I also used to put together a little video presentation for some basketball coaches / teams, and the message was something that all of us can use - especially me. I found this from Coach AJ Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) who I find so many great ideas to post, podcast about, create things from, and generally find a great amount of inspiration. In this message that he posted, Coach Kara Lawson (@karalawson20) said, "Preparation doesn't guarantee a result. It just guarantees growth." She brings up four thoughts that help us even more. “Preparation matters because: • You are your habits, • It builds your foundation, • It's where growth happens, and • Details make big differences.” I love these reminders because this is for everyone that pays attention, not just if you play for Coach Lawson. I hope you find a few things from this that inspired you to reflect a bit differently in your life as it has helped me to keep looking to get better in my life. The key is for me to take this approach every single day!! Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1435Using Our Energy - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 12-19-24 #1435
“Send Coach John a message”Saw this one when I needed it - which usually happens that way as the things I stumble across always seem to make a connection to me. Hopefully they do with you too. This is from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Stop using your energy to worry. Use your energy to believe, create, love, grow, glow, manifest, and heal.” I’ve been worrying a bit too much over the last couple of days - and other times over the last few years and I loved this for giving me some reflections on what I should be doing with my energy. I hope it helps you find some things to think about how you use your energy. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1434Flowers Grow Back - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 12-18-24 #1434
“Send Coach John a message”Saw this great post and an even better reminder for all of us about bouncing back. Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) comes back with another great thought: “Flowers grow back even after they’ve been stepped on. So will you.” All of us have so many things going on in our lives where we feel that we’ve been stepped on, pushed around, knocked over, etc. The key is to always try and pick ourselves up and to keep going. Good thoughts here that I share with you - or I at least think they are good ones…. Remember, not the only ones out there, but these hopefully will be good for you to think about and share with others. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1433Health and Peace - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 12-17-24 #1433
“Send Coach John a message”Found an amazing reminder this morning from Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) where he shared a powerful, yet simple reminder for us all about our health. He shared: “Health does not always come from medicine. Most of the time it comes from peace of mind, peace in the heart, peace of soul. It comes from laughter and love!” I needed this reminder for sure as most days get a little crazy and I need to keep reminding myself that this is one of the things that I need to keep building my life with. As always, I’m hoping it helps you too. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1432Keep Your Momentum Up - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 12-16-24 #1432
“Send Coach John a message”It’s been a little while since I was reminded about some important life lessons from Damon West (@damonwest7) and he reminds us that: “Here are some ways to be a coffee bean and keep your momentum up especially around this time of year! Remember, you are capable of much more than you think.” There are 4 areas he shares about how we can become a Coffee Bean: 1) Fuel your life with purpose, 2) Be humble and hungry, 3) Make life a mission trip and 4) Remember when you succeeded (click HERE for the video on Damon West’s story). This is something each of us can connect with and take with us wherever we go. Go out and get his book “The Coffee Bean”... it’s one worth keeping a copy all throughout life and giving them away to others too. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1431Become More Unstoppable - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1431
“Send Coach John a message”Another fantastic and powerful post that just got delivered to me from the one and only, Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_). Listen to this one, “You become unstoppable when you work on things that people can’t take away from you.” This post really got me fired up and looking to continue to work hard and make changes that I know I need to make in my life. I know that I need to simply keep working on these things a little bit every single day and things will keep getting better (maybe not easier), but they will improve. Amazing to think that others - even though they will try, they won’t be able to take these things away from us. Very cool stuff!! Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1430Handle Hard Better, Again - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 12-13-24 #1430
“Send Coach John a message”Found myself watching a clip that I have seen & watched before and again, it’s a message that I needed to hear & see again - it’s got that much value for sure. Coach Kara Lawson (@karalawson20) is the head women’s basketball coach at Duke University. She’s one of the best out there as a coach and a leader and of the reasons why she is - she played for the legendary coach and leaders, Coach Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee. Kara’s website. Watch this video first - this is where Coach Lawson shares her thoughts on “handling hard better.” After that video, please check out the clip that ESPN did about this speech and it goes into a bit more info on who Coach Lawson is. I think it was a masterful video - check it out here. Life gets better when we learn how to handle hard better. This message (lesson) is like many, it’s not just about sports…. It’s about life!! Please… share this episode of mine (and hers too) and reach out and let me know what you took away from Coach Lawson’s messages. Life-changing stuff… only if you take it to hear & apply it to your life. I know I need to do this for sure and as always, I’m looking for help on how to do that. Go back and listen to my episode 1167 where I connect other lessons to Coach Lawson’s message about handling hard better. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1429Control Your Laziness - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 12-12-24 #1429
“Send Coach John a message”Saw a post that for sure spoke right to me and I think there will be a few other people that will feel the same. Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) posted this reminder - “Control your laziness, and you’ll understand how much success you’ve been avoiding.” Yep… this was for me. I’ve shown various types of laziness throughout my lifetime and I’ve figured out for sure, that because of those choices - success has been avoiding me along with me avoiding it. That time is ending. It’s not gone all the way, but it sure is getting better. Hope this helps you to connect more with whatever you define success as. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1428Hugs From People - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 12-11-24 #1428
“Send Coach John a message”This post from Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) caught my eye since I’ve had many connections - recently for sure - to what he’s talking about here. In fact, I think all of us have a connection to this post. He shared this: “I think sometimes we are hugged by people in our sleep that aren't there. But their souls stop by and leave us some strength. ~ Amen!” Again, I’ve shared this before that I truly believe we are spiritual beings having a human experience here on earth. It’s very emotional when I have dreams about people that I love & care for - especially those that have passed on already. As I’m typing these show notes, two things here got me thinking. First - how often I think of my “balcony people” (those that came before me and had an impact on me and my life and they are in heaven, cheering me on as if they were looking over a many-level balcony), it’s me thinking about them, many times a day - every single day. Second - how much I’m struggling typing with my arthritis pain. Writing is even worse. So things like this are taking me longer for sure. This also is connected to me thinking about what my “balcony people” had to put up with and suffer through during their lives. It helps to remind me that I’m ok. 😄 I’m interested in your thoughts for sure on this topic of having dreams - please see below on how to reach out to share some thoughts with me. S8 Ep 1427A Game Changer - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 12-10-24 #1427
“Send Coach John a message”Another home run hit here by Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) and this is one to take a moment to let it sink in & keep with you. This was a powerful reminder for me to throw that switch and change the way I think about when things are “happening to me” and look at them for the lessons that they can offer me to get better. Since life will never stop teaching, I figure I might as well never stop learning. This is a great conversation for all of us to have with our individual person that we see in the mirror every single day! Then, just keep working on learning the lessons, applying them into our lives and be ready for the next learning opportunity. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1426Six Months, Your Choice - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 12-9-24 #1426
“Send Coach John a message”Found this post that really was personal - it kind of hurt. You see, I’m holding both hands in the air about having way too many excuses. This is what I said introducing this post: “Very personal.. ouch!! Totally true for me & the guy looking back in the mirror.!!” This all came from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) and the personal post said - “In six months you will have six months of excuses, or six months of progress. The choice is yours!!” Again, this was speaking right to me. It’s the same message for 6 days or 6 years (or in my case, even longer.) I love the connection to the truth that I need to choose progress!! Excuses means I’m not doing anything, blaming others, having pity parties for myself, etc. Progress means I’m trying, learning, getting back up, reading, listening, etc. I’m going to continue to work every single day to choose progress. You see, you don’t have to make your fight between excuses and progress, public knowledge. This also reminds me of a statement that I have brought up on my podcast episodes - “It’s later than you think!” I need to take that to heart, tears and all, and keep moving forward instead of getting stuck feeling sorry for myself. Thanks for listening. Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show. S8 Ep 1425Thinking and Judging - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1425
“Send Coach John a message”Found some big-time truths here, that once again, I needed reminding on. Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) shared this quote with all of us from Carl Jung, “Thinking is difficult, that’s why most people judge.” Now, I’ve judged plenty throughout my life & for a long time I’m working to do it less AND to try and get rid of it all together. I’m also trying very hard to do more thinking and to invest in my thinking, which helps me grow and become a better person. Also, it reminds me how much this is true for so much of the world. I also reflect on the fact that the world would be a lot better if we paused a little bit more to do some deep thinking & reflecting about life and our part in it - instead of blaming, judging, pointing fingers, etc. Just me doing some Christmas Holiday wishing. 🥲 Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1424It All Starts With Accountability - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 12-6-24 #1424
“Send Coach John a message”So many of these things that come across my “desk” throughout the day, really get me to pause and do some thinking - this one was one of those for sure. In fact, this is what I shared when I reposted it: “Wow... powerful reflection here.. I needed this for sure!!” I am totally open to connecting to things that I know that I not only need to be reminded of or taught, but also I realize that I MUST keep learning / being reminded of these lessons every single day of my life!! This once comes from The Winning Difference (@thewinningdiff1) and it reminds us that “Success starts with accountability. When you take responsibility for where you are, you take control of where you’re going. Stop making excuses. Start making progress.” Now that is a powerful enough point to share and discuss for sure, but they went a bit further by attaching another thought from Coach Buzz Williams who said, “You’ll never become who you want to be if you keep blaming everyone else for who you are now.” Now, I’ve done this plenty of times in my life - and I’ve been working for a long time at fixing this in my life. Taking responsibility is the best and easiest way of fixing things in our own life. It’s also the best and most difficult too. But it’s totally worth it. Take a look in the mirror and ask the person staring back at you about this post!! Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1423Walking Your Path - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 12-5-24 - #1423
“Send Coach John a message”Found a fantastic reminder that I needed and maybe others do too. From Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where they remind all of us “Don’t expect anyone to understand your journey, especially if they haven’t walked your path.” Right on target! This got me thinking about a couple of different thoughts. First, those that are close to us, in our inner circle, that we love & care for & they love and care for us… hopefully they are able to at least support us in going after our dreams and goals. Keep looking to encourage them to go after theirs and don’t get too upset with them if they don’t encourage & support you at first. Secondly, look to encourage them and other people to go after their goals and dreams. Look to walk in their shoes a bit, be empathetic to see things from their point of view. Why would you not encourage others, when you are seeking encouragement for yourself. Finally, there will be those critics out there that take offense to you going after your dreams and goals because it reminds them that they are not going after theirs. You are making them feel very uncomfortable when they look at the mirror along with when they have to try and fall asleep at night. Still have compassion for them, but certainly don’t hang around them too much and don’t take their “advice” to heart. Like the previous podcast mentioned - just don’t quit! Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1422Makes Your Heart Smile - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 12-4-24 #1422
“Send Coach John a message”I needed a boost of Positivity today and I found it in a few different sources, but this one hit the target for sure. Hope it does for you too. From Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) they shared this thought for all of us to reflect upon a bit: “Never quit something that makes your heart smile. You may pause. You may take longer, but just don’t quit.” I needed this reminder as I’m recovering from another surgery procedure yesterday and I need to (follow doctors orders & my wife’s too), to take it easy for a few days / weeks. But all of this that I’ve been going through, has really helped to put into focus the things that I want to keep working on. The inspiration is powerful and I am more excited now than ever before to keep doing the things I want to do with my life. No matter the detours, road blocks, etc., I (you) need to just keep going. S8 Ep 1421It's Later - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tues. 12-3-24 - #1421
“Send Coach John a message”This was another eye-opening and heart-connecting post that I found and of course, I know there are others that it will connect with too. This comes from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) and here it is: “Don’t leave anything for later. Later, the coffee gets cold. Later, you lose interest. Later, the day turns into night. Later, people grow up. Later, people grow old. Later, life goes by. Later, you regret not doing something… when you had the chance.” At my age, I’m seeing the truth of this more and more. I think a key is for people that are younger than me, pick up on these thoughts. Another key is that there are people older too that would benefit from doing the same thing. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1420The Softest Pillow - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 12-2-24 #1420
“Send Coach John a message”Success leaves clues all over the place and this nugget comes from Lorraine Woodrow (@Woodrow Lorraine) and it’s a great one to reflect upon for sure. She begins this thought with “One of the most underrated ingredients for having a good life is a clear conscious.” It ends with “...Karma is real, energy is contagious. Live accordingly.” This is a good thing to sit back, let it digest a bit and see where you stand with this statement. I know (again) there is plenty for me to work on with this one. How about you? S8 Ep 1419Motivational Monday Game Plan - Life Is Bigger - #1419
“Send Coach John a message”This is something that I found very interesting and very true! Again, something I need to work on in a bigtime way! It’s a great way to remember not to let someone’s brief negative thought or action towards us, and let it ruin an entire day (or even longer). This is something that I have let bother me overnight at times, and ruin a decent night’s sleep. That can’t happen any more. Let me know if you have ways of dealing with this better than I do. Another home run by Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) and I think this is someone you should look up to find more about. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1418Sunday Conversation With Coach Daly, Coach Dave & Coach Ryan - Longtime Battles With Mental Health - 12-1-24
E“Send Coach John a message”Sat down with a couple of wonderful guys that have a lot to share and to more importantly help others. Coach Dave Ruekert is someone that you know through my show for sure. He’s got a longtime good friend in Coach Ryan Mills and Ryan reached out to Dave a while back, wanting some way of telling his story in order to help others. Ryan has many things he is dealing with and he wants to share some insights, thoughts and ideas as to how we can handle the things we have going on in our lives. Now, remember, this in no way is meant to be professional help. In fact, Ryan and Dave remind us all that we need to reach out to professionals if we find ourselves needing help with our mental health for sure. A couple of things I was reminded about in our talk - everyone has battles that we are fighting with and dealing with AND there are good people out there that want to help. Understanding others is key, all throughout life and since life is all about relationships, listening to stories that Ryan shares can help us all become better people for ourselves and for others. If you want to reach out to Coach Dave - ([email protected]) or Coach Ryan - ([email protected]). This is something that I found very interesting and very true! Again, something I need to work on in a bigtime way! It’s a great way to remember not to let someone’s brief negative thought or action towards us, and let it ruin an entire day (or even longer). S8 Ep 1418Walking With Enthusiasm - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-29-24 #1418
“Send Coach John a message”History teaches some wonderful lessons, if you are willing to pay attention. This one comes from Wisdom (@Wisdom_HQ) and they are connecting with a big-time historical figure, Winston Churchill who said “Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” Since we all stumble, fall, fail, get distracted, etc., having an attitude of enthusiasm to get through life with, it will pay off for sure. I love this reminder and I need to keep looking to be fired up about figuring things out, learning new things, overcoming failures, realizing that our attitude does make a difference. I need to remember, I can have enthusiasm about all things in my life, I might as well choose to get through the tough times as best I can with a decently positive attitude. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1417Gratitude For A "Normal" Day - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thurs. 11-28-24 #1417
“Send Coach John a message”Found a great connection to Thanksgiving here from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) and it really got me thinking about how grateful I should be each and every day! Here was my intro to the post I shared on Twitter / X: “Powerful reminder … even when I’m thinking / feeling that I’m having a “horrible” day… there are so many people throughout the world that would be smiling and consider that same day as a great day or their best day!” The actual post was this: “Your “normal” day is someone’s dream, so be thankful everyday!” I forget many times that even my worst days, that would still be someone’s dream day!! How so many people in this world would do anything to have one of our “bad” days. This day of gratitude (and it’s been said all the time) should not be celebrated just on one day. This is something for me to work on for sure. I know this helped me in a bigtime way. I hope it does the same for you. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1416Trouble Moving Forward - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 11-27-24 #1416
“Send Coach John a message”Found another great reminder from a longtime connection that I have had to finding successful clues. Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr) brings up this very important point that we all can use in life. “Blaming, complaining, and making excuses will never move you forward or make your situation better.” There have been times in my life where I thought that one of these 3 (usually all 3 together) would make me feel better, help me in some way, etc. But I usually found out later that it caused me more trouble for sure. I think we all know plenty of people that blame, complain and make excuses all of the time! Those people I usually separate myself from in some way, since I don’t want their behavior and choices, having an effect on me. I make enough trouble for myself that I certainly don’t need others doing it for me. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1415Sun & Rain - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tues. 11-26-24 #1415
“Send Coach John a message”Saw a smart little reminder from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where they shared this powerful reminder - “Accept both compliments and criticism. It takes both sun and rain for a flower to grow.” That’s something that not only life throws at us - both the sun and rain, but we also do it to ourselves. I think we need to make a conscious choice to watch how we do this with ourselves but also, who do we have around us filling our heads & hearts with things that might lean us towards one way more than another. I’m working on complimenting myself more than putting myself down. Not always successful with this battle, but I’m getting better. Hope you are too. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1414No Mud Pits - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 11-25-24 #1414
“Send Coach John a message”Found some great advice that has been echoed so many times from Gary Vee (@garyvee) but it’s connected this time to: Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Never wish them pain; that’s not who you are. If they caused you pain, wish them healing.” There seems to be “mud” being thrown all over the place these days. Bad-mouthing others, blaming others, gossiping about others, putting out false information about others, etc. I’ve been focusing on not getting caught up in things like this. I have been finding that there is truth to the statement, “where focus goes - energy flows!” For me, I have too many things to accomplish, build, go after along with helping those I love to do great things living their lives; and I don’t have time to go after people to cause them troubles and problems. Life is way too short for sure. This is really a no-brainer for me. Hope it is for you too. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1413Your Finish Line - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1413
“Send Coach John a message”Going a little deep emotionally on this post as I found one that really has connected to some other things that I have found lately. This one comes from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) where she shares a quote from Terri St. Cloud and here it is: “And if, when it is all over, I’m asked what I did with my life, I want to be able to say “I offered Love!”” WOW! Since we are getting closer to the end date in life than we were yesterday, I really feel this is a very powerful mindset to have. Look ahead to how you want your finish line to look! Have the end in mind. Then build your days to connect with that. John O’Leary has that as one of his “Live Inspired 7”, a set of questions he asks each of his guests from his podcast - one of the questions is: “It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?” First of all, I love looking at myself as being a great enough person so that I can have that shot of having my life viewed like that. Again, one sentence… that’s a powerful thought. For me it will have to contain something about being a life-long educator & coach, who loved his wife & family, friends and being a difference maker for his students, players, coworkers, etc. I think I need to zero in on this one sentence for sure and then continue to build my life around that statement. What would yours be like? Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1412This Roadblock Is Draining - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-22-24 #1412
“Send Coach John a message”Found another item to get me reflecting on being my best. I’ve come to find that I not only look forward to working hard on being my best, but also I know I need to. A couple of great coaches shared this one. Coach AJ Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) shared this post with some thoughts from Coach Jay Wright where he shared this gem: “The greatest characteristic you can have as a human being is a great attitude. It’s a choice you have every day.” Coach AJ reminds us that it's a choice on perspective, not circumstance. A negative attitude is a roadblock. It's draining. Not sure if there is something that is not 100% more on target with what can cause ourselves trouble than these thoughts. Just try and take this on, even for just a few minutes every day and watch the good things to come into your life. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1411Becoming Your Best - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 11-21-24 #1411
“Send Coach John a message”I think it’s safe to say that we all want to be at our best, I know I want to be my best. It takes a conscious effort to do that. Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) had a great post that got me zeroed in on this. He shared this thought: “No one ever became their best by focusing on someone else’s flaws. Look for the best in others.” At times I will focus my attention towards others flaws. Blaming them for things, getting upset about it, etc. I’m learning that it makes much better use of my time and mental well-being to focus on improving my own flaws (which are many) compared to worrying about what others are doing wrong. I think the world (especially our own little part of it), would be a lot better if we took this to heart. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1410Be Aggressive To Learn - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 11-20-24 #1410
“Send Coach John a message”Found a very eye-opening post that hit me - not just because I love basketball, as basketball (sports in general) have nothing to do with this one - but I simply love the term that was used here. I found this from Ball is Psych (@BallisPsych) “Michael Jordan was once asked what he thought his best skill was. He didn’t say it was his ability to dunk from the free throw line or his scoring ability. His answer: “I was coachable. I was a sponge and aggressive to learn.” The easier you are to lead, the further you’ll go.” I see it as being about how we can approach the things in our lives that we get fired up over. I know I need to get more "aggressive" when it comes to my learning of the things that fire me up about my life. How about you? It really comes down to investing in yourself so you can lead yourself! S8 Ep 1409Pick Wisely - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 11-19-24 #1409
“Send Coach John a message”Saw this post and it helped me tremendously at the moment I needed to see it. Just kind of got off into a bit of a rut this morning as I ran some errands. I caught my focus going in directions that were not good for me. Negativity, things that were bringing me down, etc. Sam Crowley says it a lot, where our focus goes - that’s where our energy flows!! I’m glad I realized I had to stop it. Having intentional focus (as Ben Newman talks about a lot) came back into focus for me. So, about this post… it came from Christine Bemis (@ChristineBemis2) and she shared a quote from Hans F. Hansen who said: “People inspire you or drain you - pick them wisely.” I could see in a little bit of reflection that I was letting my focus go to people and things that I could not control first of all, but I was also letting those things bring me down. Thankfully, at least for the moment, I remembered about controlling my response to things. I simply need to keep doing that in a positive way. How about you? What do you do when these types of things hit you?? Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1408The Real Test Is - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 11-18-24 #1408
“Send Coach John a message”Found a great & powerful (yet short) post that I think will help anyone who just takes a few moments to listen to it and think about how you can use it more in your life. I know it will help me tremendously. This comes from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) "The real test is being kind to unkind people." This is one of the more difficult things that I know for me, it’s hard to do. I want to but at times I’m not very good at it and it causes me and the other person(s) a lot of problems. Again, it goes back to the previous podcast about being smart of dumb. Being disciplined or undisciplined. It also shows that I have a heck of alot of work to get done on myself. One thing for sure, it’s never done. Self Improvement & Personal Development, are things there will always be something to do, each and every day that I am alive! It will just get harder in the future, from the simple fact that I will be older. Another reason to get working on things sooner than later, while I’m “young.” 😂 Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1407Which Are You? - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1407
“Send Coach John a message”A couple of coaches shared a question that all of us can ask ourselves. This is posted from my former student and current teacher & head varsity football coach, Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) and he asks a question: “Which are you? Disciplined, or undisciplined? - It doesn’t matter how you feel. ‘Feeling good’ is temporary; it comes and goes. The disciplined get it done! Can’t just do what you think it takes. Always push yourself to do whatever it takes.” The other coach that is part of this post is Coach Nick Saban. There is more to this post as only Coach Saban can say it. Remember, this just does not mean it applies only to athletics. This is for all of us and the lives we want to create for ourselves. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1406Coffee Bean Reminders - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-14-24 #1406
“Send Coach John a message”Stumbled across a reminder that I needed and it came from Damon West (@damonwest7) “Don't forget that being a Coffee Bean starts with YOU! Create positivity from the inside out and not the outside in.” This reminder came of course at a time when I needed to hear it and I hope it’s the same for you too. There are a number of good points here for all of us to take in and keep with us for sure. It’s all about the things we can control, letting go of the clutter around us and to keep striving to be our best! #BeACoffeeBean Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1405Mediocrity vs. Excellence - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 11-14-24 #1405
“Send Coach John a message”Woke up early this morning as I not only was looking forward to a good cup of coffee to start my day off with, but I was also feeling a little bit worried about things, feeling anxious too. I’m trying to take those things on with more meditation / prayer, along with “doing something” instead of worrying & feeling anxiety. So, I was compelled to get up and do some reading and reflecting. Early mornings are always a joy to me to start my day off in a great direction. Picked up my copy of “Arete” - where this book, written by Brian Johnson, helps me to find and activate my heroic potential. Also, a big shout out to Chris Tessmar who recently sent me a note, thanking me for recommending this book on my show. Sounds like he picked up a copy and he is making some great connections with the lessons found in it. This section today from pages 293 & 294, is all about the comparison between Mediocrity vs. Excellence. A big thing that I found out were all the synonyms for Mediocrity. There are many such as unremarkable, lackluster, unexciting, just to name a few. But Brian noted that from the Thesaurus he was using there was only ONE antonym for it. That word was Excellent! It’s a great reminder that by just simply trying to do our best, putting in a little bit of effort, we can be a bit above mediocrity. Doing this every day of our lives is something special and it’s just between you and the person you see in the mirror. This reminder was what I woke up this morning looking to be reminded of. Hope this helps you any time of the day when you come across this episode. Go out and be your heroic best today and every day!! Oh... before I forget, HERE is the link from the Brian Buffini podcast where he interviews Derek Daly... Awesome & powerful lessons found in this show too. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1404One Year Contract - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 11-13-24 #1404
“Send Coach John a message”Found a powerful connection to a podcast from Ben Newman. His podcast called “The Burn” had a guest Mathiew Wilson and they shared some so many amazing lessons that we all can learn from. This is a must listen to - find it HERE. It gets me thinking of the things I can do (and need to do) every single day! It’s a reminder that the only one we are competing against, is the person we were yesterday. PLEASE.. listen to the actual podcast from Ben & Mathiew - it’s priceless!! This little Facebook Live video I did doesn’t really do it justice. S8 Ep 1403People's Connections - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tues. 11-12-24 #1403
“Send Coach John a message”Inside our Mental Toughness Academy with Ben Newman (from the Burn Podcast), I find connections to people every single day. Recently I found a post that really got me reflecting. It comes from Gerald Brian, one of the many people in this group that I get the pleasure of learning from and getting to know a little bit too. Gerald posted this: “The key to success is not just Information, The Key to success is PEOPLE. No one can fill purpose in insolation. Every teacher needs students, you can't be a good husband without a wife. You need people. Let's connect to network with one another.” I thanked him for giving me permission to share this post as I really think it’s spot on in today’s information driven world. In today’s world, information is important more than ever. We’ve seen it in politics, business, families, friends, career areas, etc. There is tons and tons of information out there and not all of it is truthful / correct. So it takes people to make sure we are connecting with each other to help each other making sure it’s good information to make decisions with. Another thing is how fast things are changing, sent, etc. People are the ones that need to have "aggressive patience" as Ben mentions a lot and I know I need to put that into practice too. Life is better with people, my friends. Relationships are the key point throughout life and when life comes to an end, as it will for all of us, that is what I think a life well-lived can be measured by. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1402Not Impressed - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 11-11-24 #1402
“Send Coach John a message”Found another great reminder that I think many in the world need to remind themselves of, about what is truly impressive. The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) gives us a fantastic reminder. It’s not the money, status, job titles, etc. It really comes down to how we treat others. There seems to be plenty of examples all over the place of how to NOT treat others. It’s too bad there are so many. It’s up to us to try and show others the correct way to do this. The world needs us to step up and do this the right way. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1401Grit Formula - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1401
“Send Coach John a message”When you are looking for good things… they usually show up. I found another good thing from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) and he puts out the intro: “What is Grit? Here’s my formula.” It’s a very easy to understand “formula” that we all can connect with and use in our lives. There are so many to connect with and for me, a guy that wasn’t great with math or science formulas back in school, this is a formula that I totally can work with. I hope you can too. It seems we all need to have a bit more Grit throughout life than ever before. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1400Great To Understand - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-8-24 #1400
“Send Coach John a message”Found another super reminder (maybe it’s just for me) that got me reflecting on some recent events and how I react. Tiny Buddha (@tinybuddha) posts this: ““Life becomes more peaceful when you truly understand and embody the idea that you can’t keep stressing over what’s beyond your control. Life will happen, and people will do and say what they want. All you can do is focus on what you can change and let the rest be.” - @VexKing. This is of course much more difficult than simply reading it and doing it without any issues. I know that I need to keep working on this skill, especially with recent events. I’m interested to hear how others take this on. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1399Time Heels? - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Thur. 11-7-24
“Send Coach John a message”I connected with a different post here, and it was good timing for me with what is going on around us for sure. Strong Minded (@strongminded101) reminds us about this truth - “It’s not time that heals. It’s what you do with that time.” There is a lot of healing that is always needed throughout life, for every single human that has been on earth. Seems recently, we need new levels of healing. So, instead of just letting time go by - it’s important that each of us look to invest / spend / use the time to help make things better for ourselves and others. Always remember, your investment in yourself is the best investment you can ever do. I, for one, am doing just that. No sense in complaining and getting worked up about things that are totally out of my control. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1398Prioritize This - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Wed. 11-6-24 #1398
“Send Coach John a message”Found a great connection with a recent post and Mitch Albom’s Tuesday People Podcast. Find the link HERE for his interview with Aaron Lazar where he is sharing the story of his diagnosis with ALS and the fact that he’s not caught up with wasting his time on things that he can’t control and don’t represent any value to his life. The post came from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it was a powerful & quick reminder: “If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.” These go hand in hand in reminding me, what am I spending my time and efforts on? It got me thinking that I need to not only make sure I ask this question to the many staring back at me in my mirror each day, but also… who do I want driving “my bus” throughout my life? Good questions for all of us to ask ourselves. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1397Life Is About - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Tue. 11-5-24 #1397
“Send Coach John a message”Found a great thought here to take on a bit more of reflection for all of us. I know I’m taking it on for sure. From Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) - “Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” - George Bernard Shaw. The journey we are all on is more about a continuous creation of ourselves, rather than finding ourselves along the way. Our journey should not be defined by finding ourselves into any type of career, or how much money we make, or titles we attain. It’s about building our life to the best version of ourselves that we can, each and every day of our lives. Good stuff to take a long for sure. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1396Different Sides of Sacrifice - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Mon. 11-4-24 #1396
“Send Coach John a message”Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) This first one reminds us that if we don’t sacrifice for our goals and dreams, those goals and dreams may end up being sacrificed for the work we didn’t do. With time going by so fast, it seems to me that I have a lot more work & effort I need to put into making some dreams / goals a reality. How about you? On the second plate for today’s self improvement snack was from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard), where this one reminds us to make sure we have discipline on the days we don’t feel good or feel like doing things. That’s when we really need it. Yep.. comes back to standards over feelings for me on this one. The old saying is that discipline weighs ounces, regret weighs tons! As I’m getting older, I don’t want to look at regrets. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1395Don't Wait For This - Motivation Monday Game Plan - #1395
“Send Coach John a message”Found a great pair of posts that I wanted to share with you to start off this week. First, Inspiration & More (@LifeWithJohn) comes at us with a very simple yet powerful reminder: “People wait all week for Friday, all year for summer, all a lifetime for happiness. Be happy today!” No sense in putting things off to wait to have some joy and happiness in your life. Set it up today!! We see too many examples of how fast time goes. On the second one from Coach Hines (@CoachKurtHines) where he reminds us to “Wake up each day, with the goal of leaving things (and most importantly, PEOPLE), better than you found them!” To me this goes with the idea of no sense of putting off being happy & doing things right in life. We all need more of this for sure, so why don’t we be the ones looking to do it. Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1394Sunday Conversation With Coach Daly & Craig Lindeman on Addiction- 11-3-24
E“Send Coach John a message”Starting a new leap of faith here as I’ve been talking about getting guests back onto my show for awhile now & due to many people and things being tossed in my face and telling me to get going on this, here we go! My first guest in this new format is a friend of a friend who is now a friend of mine. Craig Lindeman begins to share his impactful and powerful story about addiction and how he’s dealing with it. Craig goes down some paths of emotions, anger, redemption; a real authentic and raw conversation with someone who is battling things in his life, every single day! We as humans all have battles and even though our battles might be a bit different than Craig’s, all of us can learn from him and others and apply those lessons into our own lives. This hopefully helps us to live our best lives! So many impactful lessons here. One for sure, is the fact that we all need to understand that ALL OF US have battles and we need to have our eyes, ears & hearts a bit more open to understand others, help others and also try to have these lessons help ourselves. Remember, I am in no way a professional counselor. I’m simply an educator / coach who is looking to make a difference with others. That’s what my show is all about & always will be. Big time Thank You to Craig for reaching out and taking this leap of faith to be on my show and for reaching out for help. If you want to reach out to Craig, find him at his email: [email protected] and on TikTok: craiglindeman (CraigelstheClown) Thanks for listening. S8 Ep 1393Shoutout To Everyone Battling - Daily Thought With Coach Daly - Fri. 11-1-24 #1393
“Send Coach John a message”Once again, things seem to pop up when I need to see them, think about them, reflect on them, get inspired, etc. This one came up from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) “Shoutout to everyone who…” We are all battling in life, probably on a few different fronts and probably more than one at a time. It’s one of the things that help define us as humans - there will always be things to overcome and get through in life. The key is we need to be reminded that we are not alone and that we need to keep going some days, especially when we don’t feel like it. I’m sending this out to cheer you on to just keep at it and don’t quit!! I needed that message / reminder when I saw this. Just wanted to share it with you too. Thanks for listening.
