Cleared Hot Episode 267 - Triple 7 Kickoff - Who we are, Who we are jumping for, and Why

As we begin our 7 continent expedition I can think of nothing more important than talking about those that we have chosen to jump for, the impact that they had on our lives, and what they gave for what they believed. Each member of the team provides an introduction and background on their own service, how they met the fallen soldier they are jumping in honor of, and what the fallen meant to them personally. These stories need to be told, and these men and women need to be remembered, not collectively for their sacrifice, but as individuals. We should know their names. We should remember.

777 Update and Leadership lessons with Mike Sarraille

Most Fridays I dedicate to Q and A, but not this Friday. I was recently in Tampa for the premiere of Legacy Productions 1st documentary "Dropzone Everest," which follows Mike and a small group of civilian skydivers as they train for, then execute an expedition to skydive into the basecamp and surrounding areas of Mount Everest. Since we were both together, and we leave for the 777 Expedition in two weeks, a podcast was of course in order. We will do our best to send "dispatches" from the road, but until then, this episode should serve as an update on what we have accomplished so far, and what we hope to complete on the expedition. Episode 254 - Jeb Corliss

In 20 + years, Jeb Corliss has made more than 2,000 jumps, from the likes of the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Falls in Venezuela, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and into a half-mile deep cave in China. He hasn't simply leapt off and pulled his parachute, though. To add an extra layer of challenge, push the bounds of his ability, and further slice the razor slim margin for error, he has performed acrobatic maneuvers – twists, somersaults, and gainers – during freefall. More recently he discovered the thrills and challenges of BASE-jumping with wingsuits, flying along some of the most stunning and dangerous mountain terrain. In the nearest approximation of human flight yet, wingsuits (which are more flying squirrel than bird or plane) allow the best pilots to trace the contours of cliffs, ridges, and mountainsides at high speed. All of which makes for an incredible spectacle: In July 2011, Corliss flew feet from the ground in the Swiss Alps, an event captured on camera and broadcast on ABC's 20/20. Two months later, in September, Corliss swooped through an arch in the side of China's iconic Tianmen Mountain, in front of a live television audience of millions. Corliss's stunts and his unyielding approach to life never fail to fascinate. He has been the subject of profiles published in The New York Times, Outside, Popular Mechanics, Smithsonian Air & Space, Men's Journal and Rolling Stone. He has been featured on television in the United States and abroad, including 60 Minutes in Australia, ESPN's E:60, Real Sports on HBO, Today, The Colbert Report, Good Morning America and Conan. Corliss has been featured in popular BASE documentaries such as A Year in the Life, Journey to the Center, Fearless, The Human Bird, Heavens Gate and The Flying Dagger to name a few. He also hosted the first season of Stunt Junkies on The Discovery Channel and was a technical advisor on the remake of Point Break. When he is not traveling the world, Corliss lives in Vista, California.

Episode 249 - Dr. Pat Scannon

Pat Scannon is one among the few who have earned a Ph.D. and then, separately, an M.D. His passion for both chemistry and medicine goes back to his childhood roots. His father was a US Army Colonel and his Romanian-born mother went to medical school in Leipzig during World War II. Pat spent memorable years growing up in post-war Europe. Years later, he earned his BS in Chemistry from the University of Georgia. He was in R.O.T.C and received a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army upon graduation. Then he earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. A few months before his graduation, Pat realized the potential of using his chemistry training in medicine during an era pre-biotech and decided to apply to medical school. He returned to his home state and spent the second half of the 1970's earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Pat is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine. He completed his residency and fulfilled his military duty as a major at the Letterman Army Medical Center and the Letterman Army Institute of Research on the Presidio of San Francisco. Pat founded Project Recover, formerly BentProp, after a trip to Palau in 1993. He and his wife, Susan, a dive instructor, were invited there to help locate the Japanese trawler George H.W. Bush sunk in 1944. They found the trawler more quickly than expected and documented it had been an armed vessel. After the rest of the dive team left, Pat hired a guide to show them other artifacts from World War II. It was then that Pat first saw the 65-foot wing of an American B-24 bomber lying in shallow water along a coral island in Palau. Other than leading him to it, the guide could give Pat no information about the wing. For Pat, the wing was more than a hunk of metal. It represented a forgotten battle and brave men who had fought and died there. It represented stories lost to the chaos of war, the annals of time, and the secret stillness of a watery grave. All were stories unknown to the airmen's families. This moment marks the inception of The BentProp Project which is now known as Project Recover.
