Episode 204 - Marcus and Amber Capone

E

When he was medically retired after 13 years. and multiple combat deployments as a U.S. Navy SEAL, Marcus Capone and his wife, Amber, thought that life would return to normal. Instead, their struggle had just begun. Marcus was experiencing an escalating myriad of challenges, including depression, isolation, cognitive impairment, excessive alcohol use, headaches, insomnia, and impulsivity. Marcus was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but, instinctively, Amber felt there was more to be discovered. After learning about the effects of blast waves, concussive, and subconcussive brain injuries, everything started to become clear. Marcus' military career as an explosives expert, combined with his prior years of contact sports, had left him with the invisible wounds of traumatic brain injury (TBI), a condition that has significant overlap with PTSD, and is often not properly diagnosed. When all hope seemed lost, Amber learned about ibogaine, a plant-based psychedelic used traditionally in West African ceremonial settings that has been studied as a potential treatment for opioid addiction and other mental health conditions. Marcus traveled to a reputable independent clinic outside of the U.S. to receive treatment with Ibogaine, as well as 5-MeO-DMT, another naturally occurring psychedelic compound. Immediately after the sessions, Marcus felt a massive weight had been lifted, his cognitive functioning returned, he had no desire for alcohol, and he stopped taking all prescription medications. Since 2019, the non-profit Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS) has provided grants for hundreds of U.S. Special Forces veterans to receive psychedelic-assisted therapy treatment outside the U.S., as well as preparation and integration coaching. VETS believes that psychedelic therapy can lay the foundation for further healing. This "foundational healing" enables continued progress across a range of therapeutic modalities, and is supported by a robust coaching program, providing a holistic treatment solution for veterans. https://betterhelp.com/clearedhot https://athleticgreens.com/clearedhot https://paintyourlife.com https://letsdisco.com

Episode 203 - Greg Putnam

E

Greg Putnam spent nine years of active duty as a US Navy SEAL stationed out of Hawaii before making the decision to return to the Rocky Mountains with his family. After his time in the service, he dabbled in the private sector as the business manager of Ascent Vision before changing course and setting in motion something he'd been toying with for years - owning and operating a cattle ranch in Montana. In 2020, amidst the global pandemic, Putnam partnered with a fellow veteran and friend, Tim Sheehy, to make this vision a reality. Connecting three different properties nestled at the foot of the Little Belt Mountains in central Montana, they founded Little Belt Cattle Company together. With the help and mentorship of some seasoned Montana cattle ranchers, they made it through the winter and just finished their first calving season. Veteran-owned and run by the two families, LBCC sits on about 9,000 acres. The two families are set on making the operation as sustainable as possible, implementing regenerative agriculture practices whenever possible, including soil and grass restoration, a 12-month grazing plan that prioritizes the health of the pastures, and a calving schedule that aligns closely with nature. Working dogs and horses are used to move the cattle as often as possible in place of 4-wheelers, reducing the overall amount of stress on the cattle, which leads to higher quality meat. https://mtntough.com/clearedhot https://wildalaskancompany.com/clearedhot https://grammarly.com/clearedhot

Episode 194 - William Czopek

E

William Czopek is a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency, currently serving as Public Information Officer stationed in Arizona. Formally established in 1973, the Drug Enforcement Agency is a relative newcomer to the list of federal law enforcement organizations, however, its roots trace back to the 1914 Harrison Narcotics Act. The biggest narcotics seizure in 1917 was 5.5 lbs. of opium. A recent pair of seizures confiscated sufficient methamphetamines to give a dose to every man, woman, and child in both the U.S. and Mexico. Because the drug trade is an international problem, the DEA does not just operate domestically but has agents working all across the world. Over 72,000 Americans died from overdoses in 2019 and this year is on track to be worse with a 150 – 200% jump. The trail of bodies is not limited to overdose victims, The Mexican government estimates nearly 62,000 persons have "vanished" since 2006. https://www.drinkLMNT.com/clearedhot https://www.Mudwtr.com/clearedhot https://www.babbel.com https://www.magicspoon.com/clearedhot

Full Auto Friday - Round 63 - Magic Words

E

Traditionally, Fridays are for Q and A. Every so often I encounter a situation that I think deserves individual attention, and today is one of those days. Magic words....You know what I mean, words that people say in the attempt to shut you up, shut you down, or compel and elicit specific behavior. I had my first direct experience with an individual that decided that I fit the bill for her "magic word," and let's just say the conversation that followed was an interesting one. This episode is about my thoughts on the experience and the entire era of "magic words" that we now seem to find ourselves in. https://military.finance/andy-stumpf

Full Auto Friday - Round 61

E

Traditionally Friday episodes are dedicated to listener-submitted Q and A, but not today. What began as an interaction in the comments section of Youtube morphed into an email exchange, and the perfect opportunity to discuss a few of the topics that surfaced. Today's episode is completely dedicated to that exchange in the hopes of shedding some light on what the podcast is, what it will never be, who I am, who I will never be, negative social media comments, and hopefully a critical look in the mirror.
