Hello friends! This week I introduce you to Susan Hensley, who, at the end of our conversation, was surprised to understand that a couple of the stories she shared this week had to do with storms, or tempests...those wild weather events that sometimes shake us to our core! Susan shares a really potent story of what happened on a family vacation in Hawaii, and how she emerged on the other side of that vacation irrevocably changed.It's the perfect time to share this quotation from THE TEMPEST by Shakespeare, “We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.” We are made of dreams, little ones, and understanding that, I think, gives us that much more power over our lives. Greetings my friends-it's another weekend and that means another episode of the pod is dropping! This one is a doozy and has echoes of JAWS, but JAWS if friendship, trust and spearfishing were all happening at once (oh, and if the person being attacked survives, of course!) Hello Dear ones, I hope you're celebrating with family and friends and taking the time, this December month, to take care of yourself as well...and whether that looks like a glass of bubbly, a fresh made cookie or a massage from your favorite body worker, seriously, any and all good things are acceptable this month! (especially staying sane cause December is all sorts of stressful!)Here's a Christmas present, and while it is a tad early, it will make your heart happy! My guest, Bert terHart is SO MANY THINGS it's practically impossible to name them all, but suffice it to say, it was his science stories and his ocean stories and his encounters with marine life that made my day! Growing up in Indigenous communities, Leroy is all too aware of the effect of colonization on these peoples...and he is amongst them attempting to be present and be of service! I have a returning guest this episode and it is partially because Dr. Erica has more stories to tell (and hooray for us, she gives more detail about that one ceremony where she suddenly could speak and understand Navajo, despite having very little knowledge of that language!) and partially because I want to SHOUT OUT her new book "From Mountains to Medicine, Scaling the Heights In Search Of My Calling." I seriously COULD NOT put this book down...not only does she reveal some harrowing details of the mountains she has summited, but also her struggle to figure out just WHY she is here in this world (a struggle I assume most of us are familiar with!) The book is funny, charming and absolutely worth the read...and I do NOT say that about every book! Philip shares two stories this week-and both are heartfelt...there's the story about his twin girls and then...well, then there's the story about Philip's childhood and the fact that he was four years old and still had not uttered a word. But guess what? Once again, we are reminded that Love and Faith and Dedication can conquer all things, and lift each and every one of us up! And oh yeah, it can cure pretty much everything, too! It's a seriously powerful story this week-and a good example of what happens when we believe in eachother! (yeah, here we are again discussing how potent belief is, and how it can change and shape worlds!)Philip is so groovy, you absolutely need to check out his website here, and also, all his books! He is prolific! And the works he is engaging with...well, they are here to make the world a better place for all of us!We need more people to go out into the world and create community, belonging and spaces where all are welcomed. It is powerful, gorgeous and a good reminder that there are all sorts of humans creating good stuff out there...and living into their potential!
