But over time something magical happened and soon the two of them were inseparable! Cue the marriage, the babies, the grand-babies, and then, one horrific day, the death of Maarten, her husband, at work. It was then that Denise came to understand that she would have to reformat and rebuild her life-all on her own.But then her husband came calling, and in the face of all of her grief, Denise suddenly came to realize that when love is as strong as hers was with her husband? Sas Carey, my badass guest this week, is an intrepid world traveler! But from the moment she stepped off the plane and onto Mongolia's wild soil, her heart was forever captured by the people as well as the beauty of the land. Sas has made it her life's work to document the nomads as well as the reindeer herders and their way of life, carefully respecting all that she encounters. She's created multiple documentary films as well as books, and all record a way of life that is rapidly disappearing.Her stories of Mongolia, but especially those of the shamans she encountered enchanted me! It was such an honor to be invited in to their ceremonies, and as Sas explains, one that she worked for diligently year after year, returning again and again to Mongolia, as a testament to her friendship with the nomads. BUT, before all that I want to let you know that she has her very own podcast called "The Heart Chamber" where she interviews all sorts of humans, including those who have had open heart surgery (just like Boots has!). Her tales include a harrowing account of what it took to get her to notice what her heart was trying to tell her (and honestly? listening to her story made me wince!) but also how the loss of her best friend after being murdered in Nicaragua has shifted everything that Boots believes about the Universe. But the one thing that we came back to time and again was how UNSTOPPABLE she is. And really, that's the story for this week and the miracle from my guest, Guy Morris.Today Guy is an author, inventor, entrepreneur, diver, (he's swum with sharks, gahhhh) and Disney published composer (among so many other accomplishments!!). What hasn't he done? BUT, it is his early life and what he emerged out of that shaped who he is today and how he is in the world...taking big bites and enjoying every second! Guy has never met a challenge that he hasn't loved...and you can tell just by reading a bit more about him here, on his website! (a challenge like swimming with sharks? EEEEP!)Cue the "Jaws" DUH DUM...The story is a simple one, but also profound. What does it look like when someone else gives us the tools to succeed. When someone else sees the potential in us, the heights that we might reach? These angels are everywhere...AND also YOU. We each of us have the capacity to become angels...and help someone else reach their goals. And that's the takeaway this week-and might make you wonder, how can I be someone's angel this week? and the week after that, and the week after that...And a bit of beauty...that touchstone I talked about in the intro...a painting by Jan Steel called "A School for Boys & Girls." I just LOVE the chaotic nature of this schoolroom and how the teacher seems a bit overwhelmed...as well, the other teacher seems quite happy to nap the day away. What's on the other side of Death? It's an age old question with no real, solid answers. BUT my guest this week has come back after a Near Death Experience (known as an NDE) and she has some stories to tell! June is a woman of many talents and is very open to reminding us all that on the other side? It's all LOVE.Are we surprised by this? Should we be? Or what's really happening in that liminal space between dreaming and being awake?And dreaming doesn't seem to be limited to the human experience. I know we've all seen dogs running in their sleep and cats whimpering while seemingly dreaming. So all this begs the question...if dreaming isn't exclusive to humans, just what purpose does it serve? And don't get me started on that video of the octopus dreaming...it's astonishing and can be watched here! I am a huge fan of octopi and suspect that like much of the animal and plant kingdom, they too are wondering when humans are going to get their crap together and stop polluting the oceans. It seems that all living beings are dreaming...perhaps of better days to come?Elizabeth Corpion tells a story this week that is by turns haunting and provocative. And I don't want to ruin it for you but it should make you wonder...about what exactly is happening when we descend into sleep every single night. Just this morning I dreamed about describing someone as being "like the color caramel" in a dream...and I woke up and thought, "hmmm, caramel COULD be a color..." and it could, couldn't it? Michel de Montaigne said "Those who have compared our life to a dream were right... we were sleeping wake, and waking sleep." And how magical is that? So for those of you who are sensitive to this subject, please take care.Susan is a prime example of a human who refused to be satisfied with a life that seemed shallow-celebrities, brands and convincing people to sign on the dotted line. But one day she realized that it was up to her to craft and alchemize a life worth living, one filled with forgiveness, magic and family. She talks so beautifully about it in this episode and it's a good one for reminding ourselves that we have the capacity to change our lives, heal our wounds, as well.When I was a kid I loved playing in the mud. It was a good excuse to get dirty, but I just loved feeling the squish of that mud between my fingers! It was messy yes, but oh so worth it!
