What are JBook's takes on the matchup? * We have college football tomorrow! Including a Big Ten game in Ireland. (Nebraska vs. Northwestern.) * Ohio State safeties coach Perry Eliano loves his group. Could it be Kourt Williams? * What are overall thoughts on 2023 recruiting for the Buckeyes? It's been quiet for a while, which is to be somewhat expected once camp begins. But is there reason for concern, or no? * What's the latest rumor with Big Ten expansion? If they add four teams and Notre Dame is not one of them, who might the four be? Specifically, the Buckeyes have a big three in focus. Each is a defensive end: Matayo Matayo Uiagalelei, Damon Wilson and Keon Keeley. Where does Ohio State stand with each? When can expect them back on Ohio State's campus. Our Bill Kurelic and Mark Porter bring you the latest. Buckeyes' secondary looks strong | 10 days and counting
On today's show, Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle to discuss the following: ** With the Notre Dame game just 10 days away, Ohio State is back at full strength at cornerback. What are expectations from this group? Overall, the Buckeyes appear to have a very strong secondary. ** Cam Martinez is the backup slot safety behind Tanner McCalister, but Martinez is also repping some at corner to add depth there. ** The Buckeyes are extremely deep at safety. The starters will be McCalister, Ronnie Hickman (adjuster) and Josh Proctor (bandit). The top backups will be Martinez, Lathan Ransom and Kourt Williams. ** Jim Knowles doesn't like to rotate too much in the secondary, but he seems very high on Ransom and Williams. They will play. Ransom being healthy is pretty amazing. He suffered the same injury Proctor did (broken leg) but Proctor suffered his in the second game last season. Ransom suffered his in the Rose Bowl earlier this calendar year. Ransom said he did not return home to Arizona this year and instead remained in Columbus to rehab with with OSU’s athletic training staff. ** Secondary/corners coach Tim Walton and safeties coach Perry Eliano are impressive. Not much chatter about them because all the talk has been about Knowles. We're guilty as charged. But Walton and Eliano deserve some love too. ** Knowles says 75% of the defense has been installed, and he’s happy with it. Says OSU's defense is further along than he anticipated. ** What are thoughts on the Notre Dame matchup? Is Bax confident? Why or why not? All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. Buckeyes favored by 15.5 over ND | Sound about right? | Thoughts on matchup?
The 12 Days of Christmas are fine. But the 12 Days Until Buckeye Football? Now that's really where it's at. And yes, friends, we are merely 12 days away from Ohio State kicking off its 2022 season against visiting Notre Dame. Dave Biddle flies solo on today's show and gives his outlook on the OSU-ND clash, plus: * The Buckeyes are favored by 15.5 points over the Fighting Irish. Does that sound about right? * The over/under is very interesting at 58.5. We give some friendly advice there to anyone who dabbles in sports betting. * Camp is winding down for the Buckeyes. The media will interview head coach Ryan Day and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles today. That will be interesting for sure. * Who will end up being the best defensive linemen this season for Ohio State? Could it be the four second-year players? * We haven't talked a lot about special teams. Let's change that. How will Emeka Egbuka do as the kickoff returner? Will Jaxon Smith-Njigba still be the primary punt returner? Might they rotate to some degree and also use Egbuka back there? * It is the 100-year anniversary of Ohio Stadium and the 20-year anniversary of the 2002 national championship. Jim Tressel completely flipped the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry on its head and won a national title in his second season. We're big Tressel "Stans" around here. If disaster struck, could McCord or Brown hold fort down? | Thoughts on matchup with ND | B1G eliminating divisions?
There is a lot to discuss on today's show as Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit. Gene Smith indicated the Big Ten is on the verge of eliminating divisions. How early could this happen? Also, what are thoughts on the new TV deal that the Big Ten struck? We were surprised by any of the details? Regarding Ohio State's football team itself, the media got a chance to interview the Buckeyes' quarterbacks this season. How much better can C.J. Stroud be this year after his stellar 2021 season? If disaster struck and Stroud was injured, could Kyle McCord or Devin Brown hold the fort down for OSU? Also, the opener against Notre Dame is two weeks from tomorrow. How do we feel about the matchup from the Buckeyes' standpoint? All of that and much more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish. Putting on the line ... and the linebackers
Ohio State has an excellent roster overall entering the 2022 season. However, there are some possible question marks, such as depth on the offensive line, and the overall talent at linebacker. The Buckeyes' season could rest on how the O-line and LBs play. The good news for OSU is there is reason for optimism regarding both units, and that's one of the many things Dave Biddle discusses on today's show. Specifically, how does the second-team offensive line look and could any of those guys be good starters if one of the current starters goes down with an injury? At linebacker, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said on Tuesday that fourth-year juniors Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg have "solidified things at linebacker" for the Buckeyes. He also had nice things to say about Cody Simon, Teradja Mitchell, Chip Trayanum and C.J. Hicks. One thing that is not being talked about enough is OSU's lack of depth at cornerback. They only have six scholarship corners on the roster (not counting kicker/corner Jake Seibert) and Knowles revealed on Tuesday that the Buckeyes are a bit banged up at the position. One of the players who was working on the side was sophomore Jordan Hancock, who has a lot of buzz as a possible breakout player for OSU this year. True freshman Jyaire Brown is having a very good camp thus far and lost his black stripe on Tuesday. He will definitely play this season, the only question is how much. It could be more than anyone expected. To add some depth at cornerback, safeties Jantzen Dunn and Cameron Martinez repped at corner on Tuesday. So, that helps mitigate the situation. The Buckeyes have plenty of depth at safety, just like they do at linebacker and on the defensive line. All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. Florida gonna Florida | 247Sports expert Ivins on Ohio State in Sunshine State
Ohio State has five Class of 2023 commitments from Florida ... currently. In the Class of 2024, the Buckeyes have offered 19 Floridians - most of any state (just 5 in Ohio). But we all know Florida is its own animal when it comes to recruiting. Well, we brought in the best today - 247Sports Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins - to dive deep on all things Florida recruiting. The Fort Lauderdale-based info machine knows these recruits better than anyone in the business, which is readily apparent. We hit all the names - Dijon Johnson, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Bryson Rodgers, Cedrick Hawkins, Mark Fletcher, Jeremiah Smith, Stacy Gage, Charles Lester, JoJo Trader and we even delved into some Georgia standouts (Jelani Thurman and Kayin Lee). Ivins also waxes poetic on why Florida recruits are different from all the others and it's not the last visit but the last commitment you want. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters!
