This fall will mark the first college football season where legalized bets on college football will be placed in the state of Ohio. Lone Star State expert on Peoples, Buckeyes recruiting Texas
Ohio State has offered 127 prospects in the Class of 2024. Which states top the offer list? Florida (31 offers) and Georgia (20). We've had 247Sports' Andrew Ivins on routinely to handle that region's recruiting intrigue. What state comes next? Hint: Not Ohio. It's Texas, with 13 offers, including one accepted by San Antonio star running back James Peoples earlier this week. Who else could matriculate from Texas to Ohio for college? We welcome in 247Sports Recruiting Analyst Brian Perroni for his inaugural BM5 appearance to talk Peoples, other Texas targets Kobe Black, Payton Pierce and host of others. All that plus what Texas A&M thinks of its chances to snag Air Noland. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters! Peoples to OSU | Feel it coming in the 'Air' Saturday night? | Scrimmage recap
We have a loaded version of the podcast today as Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle. Among the items on the agenda: * Ohio State landed the No. 5 running back in the country yesterday, James Peoples from San Antonio. We like it. A lot. * Also, the No. 7 quarterback in the land in the 2024 class -- Air Noland -- received his offer from the Buckeyes during his visit over the weekend. Will he commit to OSU this Saturday? Can you feel it coming in the air tonight? OK, Saturday night? (Really Saturday afternoon, but we're trying to tell Dad Jokes here. So get with it.) * If that wasn't enough, almost all of the Buckeyes' practice on Saturday was open to the media. What stood out to us the most? One thing that definitely did was the strong play from true freshman WR Carnell Tate. But the defense took it to the offense for the most part. If McCord is starter, how will he perform? | Will Buckeyes offer Air Noland?
On today's show, Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss the following topics on Ohio State football: If Kyle McCord is the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes this year, what are our expectations for him? Who wins the right tackle job? Who will lead the team in sacks? Cornerback Davison Igbinosun is very impressive on and off the field. Here is how the safeties are lining up during spring: Josh Proctor at adjuster with Kye Stokes is his backup. Lathan Ransom at bandit with Sonny Styles behind him. Cam Martinez running with the 1s at the slot, with Ja'Had Carter running with the 2s. This won't be how it is for the season, right? QB recruit Air Noland will visit OSU this weekend. Will the Buckeyes offer? All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish. In-depth look at Buckeyes' O-line
Ohio State is losing a first-round pick and likely two second-round picks off its offensive line in left tackle Paris Johnson Jr., plus right tackle Dawand Jones and center Luke Wypler. It is rare to lose that much high-end talent off an offensive line in one offseason, but that's the reality for the Buckeyes. Starting guards Donovan Jackson and Matthew Jones return, which is the good news. Who will fill in at the three vacant starting spots? Who will be the primary backups? Is the depth good? Can O-line coach Justin Frye get the most out of this group? Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle for a deep dive on Ohio State's 2023 offensive line and what you can expect from the unit. All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. Examining the Buckeyes' running backs, defensive linemen
It is time for a deep dive on Ohio State's 2023 running backs and defensive linemen as Dave Biddle flies solo on today's show. If they can stay reasonably healthy -- which would be in stark contrast to last season -- how good can this collection of RBs be? The Buckeyes return all five scholarship running backs, including Chip Trayanum who is now strictly an RB. As for the defensive linemen, can they prove to be one of the top units in the country? There is little doubt they will be good, but will Larry Johnson's group be great? How deep will the rotation go this year and who will be the main contributors? Might LJ pare it down a bit? Also, we hope your brackets are faring well. Which means, we hope you did not have Arizona and Virginia going too far. All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish. Feeling presidential
Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle for the President's Day version of the podcast to discuss the following: * Who will replace Washington on Ohio State's football schedule in 2024 and 2025? * Spring football practice is beginning in just over two weeks for the Buckeyes. What are the main storylines we will be focused on? * Do we think Ryan Day will name a leader at the quarterback position between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown during or following spring? * Is Gene Smith in the running to be the next commissioner of the Big Ten? * The losses keep racking up for OSU's basketball team. The Buckeyes were blown out by Purdue on Sunday and have now lost eight straight games and are 1-13 in their last 14 contests. Yikes. But don't worry. We'll mostly talk Buckeye football. All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. OL recruiting shaping up well for Buckeyes? | Bad look for Notre Dame?
Could 2024 bring a nice offensive line haul for Ohio State? How are things going on the recruiting trail thus far for Justin Frye and the Buckeyes? JBook joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, the "interesting" situation at Notre Dame involving their offensive coordinator hiring, which WR other than Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka and Julian Fleming will play the biggest role for the Buckeyes in 2023? And of course, Ohio State's men's basketball team suffered another loss. All of that and more is coming your way on a robust version of the Friday 5ish. Cornered market | QB shuffle coming?
Luck comes in many forms. For Ohio State, there is some of it involved with recruiting. Given the Buckeyes' stellar track record for securing commitments from elite Ohioans, what the state has to offer in a particular recruiting cycle can be impactfully lucky. In Ohio's Class of 2024, there are two clearly impactful cornerbacks boasting Buckeye offers: Glenville's Bryce West and Springfield's Aaron Scott. Our Bill Kurelic - who just lobbed a Crystal Ball pick for an Arizona defensive back that we discuss - and Mark Porter join for a deep dive on package deals, QBs to watch, huge visit weekends ahead and even a little MACtion. Beating Michigan = Successful season? | Bax defends Holtmann take
After asking the question, we have the consensus answer. On Monday's show, we asked what would make Ohio State's 2023 football season a success in your book. Most fans said beat Michigan, win the Big Ten and see where the chips fall from there. Matt Baxendell basically agrees with the consensus, but he just wants a win over the Wolverines to consider 2023 a success. Bax joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, talk about the Buckeyes' offensive line this season and more football topics. And we close the show with Bax defending his controversial take on Chris Holtmann from last Sunday's Bucket. All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. Marshall's plan? | Bolden beautiful?
The Fong is back. 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong returns to the show with verve and energy. Ohio State has shifted recruiting focus to the Class of 2024 and so have we. It's an impressive list of names we focus on today. K.J. Bolden: Georgia native with ties to Ohio State's staff? Jordan Marshall: Will the 'state of Cincinnati' strike again? Elijah Rushing: Love for Larry Johnson? Sammy Brown: Can OSU outdo Clemson and Georgia for SECish prospect? We also offer the latest on Miles Lockhart, Ify Obidegwu and Steve shared his scouting report on transfer cornerback Davison Igbinosun. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters! What are your expectations for Buckeyes' 2023 football season? | The 'beats' go on for hoops squad
What are your personal expectations for Ohio State's 2023 football season? What would make the season a sure-fire success in your book? Is it still "national championship or bust" as many felt in 2022? Would the Buckeyes defeating Michigan and winning the Big Ten make the season a success in your mind, regardless of what happened from that point on? Dave Biddle flies solo on today's show to discuss that, a rare Buckeye-less Super Bowl, and the "beat" going on for OSU's basketball team (or should we say beats, plural, since the Buckeyes are now mired in their longest losing streak in 25 years (6 games) and are just 1-10 in their last 11 contests. They reached a new low -- literally -- by scoring just 41 points in their 21-point loss to visiting Michigan State yesterday. And somehow the Buckeyes were favored in that game! It is embarrassing and unacceptable for this to happen in the sixth year of Chris Holtmann's tenure, but as we've pointed out on the show many times recently, there are $20 million reasons why Holtmann won't be going anywhere after this year. Right or wrong (we're leaning heavy toward the latter) that is the reality of the situation. The other reality to the situation is OSU's hoops squad has become unwatchable and the excuse-making for Holtmann needs to stop. But we'll mostly talk about Ohio State football. Don't worry. How much will Buckeyes' defense improve in 2nd year under Knowles (and with Laurinaitis around)?
How much will Ohio State's defense improve in Jim Knowles' second season as coordinator, and with James Laurinaitis now on board to help with the linebackers? Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, the latest on the NIL collective front for Ohio State, another bad loss for the Buckeyes' men's basketball team and more.
