Buckeyes earn No. 1 ranking in CFP | Missing Miyan
Ohio State earned the No. 1 spot in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2023 season on Tuesday. Is this just a fun thing for fans, or does it actually mean something that the Buckeyes received top billing? Also, it is football and injuries are going to happen. But the ailments are starting to pile up for Ohio State. Head coach Ryan Day revealed on Tuesday that running back Miyan Williams will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Also, Day did not appear to be confident that safety Lathan Ransom would be available anytime soon following a leg injury he suffered against Wisconsin last week. Furthermore, quarterback Kyle McCord continues to deal with an ankle ailment that he appeared to re-injure against the Badgers. The news is not all bad though on the injury front. Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is expected to play this Saturday at Rutgers after missing the last three games. Also, backup quarterback Devin Brown – who is dealing with a high ankle sprain – was expected to return to practice on Tuesday (in limited fashion). On today’s show, Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle to discuss the Buckeyes being ranked No. 1 by the CFP committee, the latest on OSU’s injuries and much more. Where will Buckeyes be in CFP rankings? | Will Michigan be punished during season or after?
There is much to discuss on the Monday 5ish as Dan Rubin joins Dave Biddle. Among the items on the agenda: * The first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2023 season will be released Tuesday evening. Where will Ohio State be? Could the Buckeyes be in the No. 1 spot? There appears to be a strong possibility. * We look back on OSU's 24-10 win at Wisconsin on Saturday. The defense continues to prove it is elite, but Kyle McCord will likely need to play much better for the Buckeyes to achieve their goals this year. * Will Michigan face punishment for its cheating scandal during the 2023 season, or will it likely come sometime after the conclusion of the season? * The Buckeyes are favored by 18.5 at Rutgers this coming Saturday. The Fighting Greg Schianos are 6-2, can run the ball well and play tough defense. Any concerns here, or do we expect Ohio State will roll? All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. Bax on the cheating scandal at Michigan
Bucknutters wanted to hear from Matt Baxendell on the cheating scandal at Michigan. Ask and you shall receive. Bax joins Dave Biddle on today's show to give his thoughts on what is going on with the Wolverines and let's just say he does not hold back one bit. Bax strongly believes this will be viewed as one of the biggest cheating scandals in the history of college sports. Do you agree with that assessment, Bucknutters? Also, more damning information seemingly comes out each day about the cheating scandal, which means OSU fans and fans from around college football have been snacking on plenty of popcorn. What might come out next? And would the Big Ten and/or NCAA punish Michigan during the 2023 season? Or is any possible punishment coming after the season has ended? We also squeeze in some discussion about the Buckeyes' game at Wisconsin this Saturday night. Any reason for concern, or do we think OSU will roll over what appears to be a mediocre Wisconsin team? Michigan cheating? | OSU-PSU predictions
We did not think we would be talking about serious allegations of cheating by Michigan the day before Ohio State's showdown with Penn State ... but here we are. What do we make out of the news from Ann Arbor? What might the NCAA and/or Big Ten do? They must have hard evidence since they warned all of UM's future opponents that they have been stealing signals. Stealing signals is not against the rules, but sending staffers to allegedly shoot video of other teams' signals is a big no-no. Dave Biddle and Jonah Booker delve into all that. And oh yeah, there is also plenty of discussion about the Ohio State-Penn State game. All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish. Can Ohio State run on PSU's defense? | How healthy are Buckeyes?
The intriguing storylines are endless when analyzing Saturday's Ohio State-Penn State game in Columbus (noon ET; FOX). You could start with the fact you have a quarterback who played high school football in Pennsylvania starting for the Buckeyes, and a QB who played HS football in Ohio starting for the Nittany Lions. And stuff like that is fun, but let's get down to brass tacks. Like most big games, this one will be won in the trenches. Can the Buckeyes run the ball against an excellent Penn State defense? Also, how healthy is Ohio State entering this contest? What were our main takeaways from Ryan Day's press conference on Tuesday? Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle on the Wednesday 5ish to discuss all of that and much more with the OSU-PSU clash just three days away. How do Buckeyes stack up with Penn State? | Time for more Hayden?
Penn State week has arrived and on today's show Dave Biddle and Dan Rubin take a close look at the Ohio State-PSU matchup and how the No. 3 Buckeyes stack up against the No. 7 Nittany Lions. Penn State's national statistical rankings are impressive (No. 2 scoring defense and No. 5 scoring offense in the country) but the Nittany Lions haven't played a good team yet. Of all the Big Ten teams, only Michigan has played a weaker schedule up to this point. Ohio State has had a tougher slate and the Buckeyes have put up strong numbers themselves (No. 3 scoring defense and No. 20 scoring offense in the land). However, this will unquestionably be their most difficult test of the season thus far. The Nittany Lions haven't really played anyone this year, but they have an extremely talented roster. Now these two undefeated heavyweights will finally square off in Columbus on Saturday (noon ET; FOX) and we talk all about it on the Monday 5ish. We also wonder if Dallan Hayden should get more playing time at running back for OSU, even if all the other backs are able to get healthy. On our postgame podcast What We Learned Live, host Dave Biddle gives his analysis on what was gleaned from OSU's victory. Also, Biddle is joined by Bax, Heater and Patrick Murphy. What to make of comments from Frye, Hartline on Buckeyes' offense?
Ohio State's running game has left a lot to be desired through the first five games and that was of course a hot topic when run-game coordinator/offensive line coach Justin Frye and offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Brian Hartline met with the media Wednesday evening. What did we make of Frye's comments about the O-line and him feeling the need to simplify things? What about Hartline's comments on the offense in general and of course his talented group of wideouts? Is it time for Carnell Tate to really step up if Emeka Egbuka has to miss some time? Reason for concern for Buckeyes? Or just win, baby?
We now have a lot of data on the 2023 Ohio State football team. Five games worth. And we're torn. We see areas of major concern -- such as the offensive line and the running game, which go hand-in-hand -- but the Buckeyes are 5-0. And this happens to be a college football season where an elite team does not exist. We also see plenty of things that encourage us about this OSU team, such as the play of the defense. On the Monday 5ish, Dan Rubin and Dave Biddle dissect where the Buckeyes are at five games into the season and more. What We Learned Live: Ohio State comes alive in second half, downs Maryland 37-17
Ohio State fell behind 10-0 against Maryland on Saturday, but rebounded from there and posted a 37-17 victory over the visiting Terrapins (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten). The No. 4 Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0) had their share of shaky moments on Saturday, but there were also a lot of positives. What exactly did we learn about the 2023 Buckeyes during this game? Dave Biddle hosts our postgame podcast, What We Learned Live. He is joined by Bill Kurelic (who of course talks recruiting but also gives his thoughts on the OSU-Maryland game), Patrick Murphy and Steve Helwagen on a very lively edition of the show. All of that and much more is coming your way on What We Learned Live. Cautious with Marv? | OSU-Maryland predictions

We think so, presuming Ohio State is not in a dogfight in the second half. Also, what are predictions for the Buckeyes-Terrapins matchup, featuring two undefeated teams? Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle on the Friday 5ish to discuss all of that and much more.
