Jurgen Klopp addressed Virgil van Dijk’s knee injury and whether Liverpool will look to the transfer market for a replacement at his press conference in Amsterdam this evening. Virgil van Dijk's season could be in doubt with the Dutchman set for surgery after damaging his ACL in the Merseyside derby against Everton. Roberto Firmino is perhaps the defining player of Jurgen Klopp’s five years in charge of Liverpool. But, following the 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa, the Reds’ brilliant number nine was not spared criticism. Was that fair? Maybe, maybe not. But what is clear is that Firmino – and the other members of the club’s feared front three – has real competition for his place given the impressive strides made by Takumi Minamino since the start of the new season and by the big-money arrival of Diogo Jota. Former Liverpool wonderkid Gerardo Bruna, once dubbed the 'new Lionel Messi', played alongside Thiago Alcantara as the pair came through the youth ranks in Spain.
