Liverpool's performance against Leicester City in the Premier League was almost perfect - and the numbers show it. Join Josh Williams and David Hughes as they talk through and analyse that game, plus look ahead to the Champions League clash with Atalanta - a team that Liverpool tore apart just three weeks ago. As Liverpool push forward to retain their league title and head into the latter stages of the Champions League, their stellar front line could be crucial, as the Analysing Anfield hosts explain. Behind Enemy Lines: Leicester head to Anfield with stellar centre-back in their ranks
Liverpool face high-flying Leicester City at 7.15pm tonight at Anfield so Blood Red's Matt Addison speaks to Leicestershire Live's Jordan Blackwell all about Brendan Rodgers' side, including an injury update, the players the Premier League champions must watch out for, and the former Jurgen Klopp target who moved on this summer. Leicester did some good business themselves, with Wesley Fofana particularly impressing, while James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, who have both been linked with Liverpool in the past, and, of course, Jamie Vardy continue to be a huge threat. The Foxes were the only team in the Premier League to vote against the controversial Pay-Per-View scheme. Tonight’s match was one of those pencilled in to cost £14.95, before fans across the country brought about a U-Turn, so Jordan also explains why Leicester took the stance they did. A chat with author and lifelong Red Tony Quinn on his new book, Klopp: My Liverpool Romance
From Andy Robertson’s 'Now You’re Gonna Believe Us', to 'Greatest Games' by Jamie Carragher, and to Melissa Reddy’s 'Believe Us', if you’re looking for a Liverpool FC book for Christmas, or even to get you through this latest lockdown, then there’s plenty to choose from. And we’d just like to introduce you to another... it’s called 'Klopp: My Liverpool Romance', and it’s written by journalist, author and lifelong Red Tony Quinn. For 15 years Huyton-born Tony was the film critic for the Independent. He is also the author of six novels. But this book is his first dive into the world of sportswriting – and it is the first UK-written book about the man who has guided Liverpool back to the top of English, European and World football. It’s not a biography in the conventional sense, more an ode, as Tony jokes, to ‘the third person in his marriage’... Jurgen Klopp. And earlier this week Paul Wheelock had to chance to speak to Tony from his home in London, all about the book, and all about his beloved Liverpool FC. The second half of the podcast focuses on Sunday’s visit of Leicester City to Anfield, explaining why Brendan Rodgers’ table-topping team might not be what they’re cracked up to be, and the danger posed by Jamie Vardy’s enduring talents.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCJoin our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/Visit the Liverpool ECHO website: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/liverpool-fcThe Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. Inside story on Harvey Elliott's flying start to Blackburn Rovers loan spell – and Mohamed Salah comparisons
Matt Addison brings you a special podcast to find out how highly rated Liverpool teenager Harvey Elliott is getting on during the early stages of his season-long loan at Blackburn Rovers. Many expected the 17-year-old winger to remain at Liverpool and train alongside Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad. But on the domestic transfer deadline day Elliott joined up with Tony Mowbray’s Championship hopefuls Blackburn, where he has been making an instant impression. That’s according to Jaquob Crooke, who covers Rovers for the LancsLive website, and former Scotland striker Kevin Gallacher, who was part of the Blackburn squad that won the Premier League title in 1995 under Sir Kenny Dalglish. Matt speaks to both as he discovers the lengths Mowbray went to sign Elliott, how the Rovers boss keeps Liverpool up to speed with the teenager’s progress, and why the England youth international is playing in the perfect system to help him when he returns to Anfield next year. Plus, there’s a tantalising comparison with a current Reds star. Enjoy. The Liverpool ECHO’s Connor Dunn had to chance to speak to Liverpool FC royalty on Friday when he was granted an audience with the legendary Sir Kenny Dalglish. So Connor asked Sir Kenny more about that – and about the football, of course, too, including how Jurgen Klopp will deal with his defensive injury crisis, and the potential battle for a starting spot between Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.Watch and subscribe to our Blood Red videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BloodRedLiverpoolFCJoin our Blood Red podcast group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1656599847979758/Visit the Liverpool ECHO website: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/liverpool-fcThe Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. The Liverpool.com podcast: Instant reaction as Joe Gomez injured on England international duty as Reds defensive injury crisis deepens
News broke during the recording of the Liverpool.com podcast that Joe Gomez has picked up an injury in England training this morning, Although the extent of the problem has yet to be made clear, there are fears it could be significant. And with Virgil van Dijk sidelined long term, that means Joel Matip is set to be Liverpool's only fit senior centre-back. So what do the Reds, who also lost right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Manchester City, as well as having concerns over stand-in centre-back Fabinho, do now? Dan Morgan, Joel Rabinowitz and Mark Wakefield attempt to answer that question as they react to the breaking news. But before that, they take stock of Liverpool's season so far, picking out the players they are most pleased and disappointed with, as well as taking a wider look at the Premier League. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. Analysing Anfield: The new trick in Jurgen Klopp’s playbook | And do the numbers do Liverpool justice?
Jurgen Klopp shocked Liverpool supporters and perhaps Pep Guardiola too when he named Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota in his starting line-up for Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City. And, after giving their thoughts on the match itself, Josh Williams and David Hughes discuss whether Klopp’s bold 4-4-2/4-2-4 formation is one the Liverpool boss will use again. Our Analysing Anfield hosts then dig deep into the numbers of the game including a very interesting statistic about Kevin De Bruyne, who missed the chance to win it for City from the penalty spot. And, given the final international break of the year is now upon us, the second half of the podcast is all about the season so far, and whether the underlying numbers do justice to Liverpool and their to biggest title rivals, City. Josh and Dave also have a bit of fun and give their updated top-four and relegation predictions. Blood Red: Man City draw underlines Liverpool's Wijnaldum reliance as Firmino and Jota examined
After Liverpool drew 1-1 at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, how should Jurgen Klopp reflect on the game? Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson both impressed in the centre of the park in a midfield two, as Liverpool went with the bold front four of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino. But how should each of their performances be analysed? Wijnaldum's contract is still to be renewed and he looks set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the year, but this was yet another showing that proved his class. Firmino, too, who has been criticised in some quarters of late, looked excellent, particularly out of possession and in the first 45 minutes, but he tired second half and was replaced by the resurgent Xherdan Shaqiri. Join Guy Clarke, Ian Doyle, Paul Gorst and Matt Addison as they breakdown the result and performance and what it all means heading into the last international break of 2020. Post-Game: Man City 1-1 Liverpool | Salah slots from the spot as Reds take a point but count the cost of Trent's injury
Liverpool came away from the Etihad with a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, although they finished the game without Trent Alexander-Arnold who was forced off injured. Mohamed Salah's 10th goal of the season had given the Reds a 1-0 lead before Gabriel Jesus equalised. Kevin De Bruyne then missed a penalty to give City the lead. In a wide-ranging press conference, Klopp also spoke about the impact of Diogo Jota, the form of Joe Gomez since Virgil van Dijk’s injury, how many teams will battle for the title Liverpool are defending, why Roberto Firmino remains such a crucial player, and his thoughts on leaving Melwood. Analysing Anfield: Diogo Jota is becoming a problem for Jurgen Klopp – and proving Liverpool made the right move with Timo Werner
Man-of-the-moment Diogo Jota is one of the big talking points of the Analysing Anfield podcast after his superb hat-trick for Liverpool in their 5-0 Champions League win at Atalanta. But before Josh Williams and David Hughes get stuck into that, they start by examining the 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League at Anfield, which proved to be another game when Liverpool conceded first. Why is that? And why could the defending champions count themselves ‘unlucky’? Talk then turns to the outstanding win over Atalanta with particular focus on Jota’s performance as the Reds’ central striker in place of Roberto Firmino. A number of fans wanted to sign Timo Werner in the summer but our hosts wonder whether Liverpool have got the better deal by buying the Wolves man instead. And the final section of the podcast focuses on Sunday’s huge match at Manchester City, whose underlying statistics suggest they aren’t quite the same attacking threat they once were. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield.
