<p class="MsoNormal">We talk to Rob on this week’s bonus show about he felt about getting passed over for the Hall of Fame, and he says he didn’t think it would happen on his first ballot anyway but he was disappointed by not moving on. Jenners also brings up Stephen A’s top contenders to take on the Celtics largely because the Lakers made the list at #3, and Rob feels like they would need a lot of things to go right for them to get there this year. Rob jokes about how everyone in LeBron’s scoring record photo had their phone out, which takes us down the road of the merits of taking photos in a big moment or just trying to enjoy it while you were there. And after Channing Frye said nostalgia is killing the NBA, we debate about how the game should and should not be compared to previous eras of basketball. <p class="MsoNormal">We open with the “Luka revenge game” as the Lakers and Mavericks faced off for the first time since the blockbuster trade. Rob feels like Lakers fans are looking to win it all right now, and Luka needs to tighten up on the other end of the floor if they’re even going to have a shot. Rob has still not committed to this move because of a bad loss to the Hornets and some tight wins that should have been bigger. This week’s story was about Luka’s taste for “beer and hookah” in Dallas was one of the reasons they moved on from him, and even though he has trimmed out in LA we wonder how long it will take before he gets comfortable again.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Rob also has strong words for the “fans” that are threatening Nico’s family and kids, and we talk about the roots of that kind of fandom and how the Mavs may have had a hand in creating the Luka-monster in Dallas before trading him away. Plus we talk about Wembanyama being out for the season and what that means for Jaren Jackson Jr’s hunt for a supermax deal, and how Evan Mobley might have torpedoed the entire deal. And with Naz Reid potentially on the move, we talk about how he should be getting more starts in Minnesota with the numbers and level of play he’s shown so far this season.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Plus the story of the year so far in the NBA is easily the bounce back of the Detroit Pistons under J.B. Then we get into the mess that was the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, as James and BT feel like it would just be better to go back to the original East-West format and play for either pride or home court advantage.</p> <p><br>Allie Clifton weighs in (from the parking lot at Spectrum, as she's gotta work tonight) as does producer and host Mike Bresnahan. We also get Chris McGee joining the conversation as we break down Mac McClung winning his third dunk title, what it would take to fix the dunk contest, and what everyone wants to see during All-Star Weekend in the future.</p> <p><br>We of course have to speak to the Lakers of it all, since we are joined by the entire Lakers TV crew - and everyone has mixed opinions about the Mark Williams failed trade and LeBron's health going forward. <p class="MsoNormal">We open the bonus show this week by talking about Joel Embiid, and the possibility of him needing yet another knee surgery. Rob feels like he did himself a disservice by playing in the Olympics and that the Sixers need to work with their doctors instead of his to try and get him back on the floor. Plus a listener wants to know if we’re sleeping on the Trail Blazers, who are still a young team and not that good yet, but Rob feels like they have a lot of upside.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Rob also defends his stance that the Lakers need to take the ball OUT of AR’s hands, after he had a monster night against the Pacers, but Rob says its because he just holds the ball too long and takes too many shots when he needs to spread it around more. Harper also thinks that Lakers need to work more on building around a big and less on the shooting guards that have been dominating the game. And listeners want to know Rob’s opinion on a player like Bradley Beal going back to the Wizards (even though they are not good) to be the big dog on the floor as opposed to getting limited time on a team that should be better.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Lastly, as Ben Simmons leaves the Nets, we ask Rob what team is immediately better if a player leaves town. And we also dive head first into Luka’s debut as an LA Laker, as Rob is still holding out judgement until they face some more serious competition. Rob says it felt like an All-Star game moment at times but Harper feels like it can work with time. We also dive into the wild fans that are throwing death threats at Nico Harrison, the conspiracy theories surrounding the Luka trade out of Dallas, and the unfortunate Anthony Davis injury that went down in his debut game for the Mavericks.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Plus the Dalton Knecht trade that fell through lands squarely on Robert Horry’s radar, because it happened to HIM when he almost got traded to Detroit. Rob talks about how his failed trade really worked for his career and hopes that Dalton’s failed trade has the same positive impact. That of course launches into the Lakers’ need for a big man, and sure enough both Dwight Howard and DeMarcus Cousins both pop up. Jimm Butler’s move to Golden State takes over the conversation, as both Rob and B-Dog really like the move, and even though Golden State is trailing in the standings Rob still feels like a young team like OKC in the Playoffs could pop up and bite them. <p class="MsoNormal">We open the show with the biggest story in all of sports this week, the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade to the Lakers. Everyone throws out their initial reactions to this huge story, including Rob’s feelings that there were behind-the-scenes factors that played a big part in this trade that no one is discussing, like his entourage, not training with the team and his lack of conditioning. That said, Rob says he’s not that concerned about Luka’s weight because he is still getting the job done on the floor. Defensively there are still a lot of questions, especially when you look at his performance in the NBA Finals just a couple of seasons back, but the hope is that he is able to improve that while playing alongside LeBron.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">The money on the table is also a big angle in this Luka story, as he would be leaving over $116 MILLION on the table due to this trade because he’s not ineligible for a supermax deal. Does Rob feel like the Mavericks might have moved him to save some of that money? Plus the Lakers made a statement to LeBron James by making a move without his consideration, and Rob feels like this is just another indicator that LeBron needs to start moving aside as the leader of the team. Rob and B-Dog both feel like Luka and LeBron will be able to play with each other because LeBron has showed he could do it in a lot of other situations.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio was the other big move of the week, as De’Aaron lands in a great situation alongside Victor Wembanyama as the Spurs try to rebuild around some young pieces. Jenners also loses last week’s bet as Jimmy Butler continues to blow up every deal that’s presented to him, and we were pretty convinced he’d at least have a deal in place by now. <p class="MsoNormal">Rob spent the week in Dubai with NBA legend Michael Cooper, and jokes that it was an amazing place to spend time if he was about 20 years younger. The Lakers are helping UCLA build some hospitals overseas and Rob jokes that Mike made him do all the talking the entire trip. And as we creep in on NBA All-Star weekend, we await to see where Rob will fall in the Hall of Fame class announcements… but Rob doesn’t have high hopes of making the cut his first year on the ballot. Plus Rob tries to put the All-Star snubs of Norman Powell and Trae Young into perspective for the fans.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">The Bronny James saga has again resurfaced as his recent struggles, and Rob feels like the Lakers are putting him in a bad spot by continuing to roll him out there when he’s clearly not ready. And as a father of a son who has NBA hopes, Rob is hoping to have a team invest in him like the Lakers have in Bronny regardless of his struggles. Rob also lays out the scenarios where the Heat actually move on from Jimmy Butler, because he believes that Pat Riley will only do what’s best for the Heat and not what’s best for Jimmy. Plus how are the Kings voluntarily moving on from De’Aaron Fox when he should be the piece they build the future of the Kings around.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Joel Embiid missed the 400<sup>th</sup> game of his career this week, meaning that he’s missed 47% of his CAREER games – and Rob believes that if he ever signs another NBA contract, it will have to come with stipulations about not paying him for games he doesn’t play. We also play the audio of Adam Silver saying he would be a fan of shortening quarters to 10 minutes, and Rob says there is NO way it ever happens because it would affect sponsorship dollars. There was also some really interesting audio from Dwight Howard this week who is yet again sounding off on how he’s treated by Shaquille O’Neal – and if it’s indeed over the “Superman” nickname, Rob equates it to Chauncy Billups calling himself “Mr. Big Shot” and how it never bothered him. And we try to figure out which SEC head coach (Lane Kiffin) dropped into Sydney Thomas’s DMs!</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Listeners call Rob to the carpet on his performance on “World’s Toughest Test” as there is a new season, and Cam Newton and Golden Tate are both performing really well… where Rob really didn’t. Rob also backs up Rick Barnes after the Tennessee men’s basketball coach benched one of his star players, Chaz Lanier, for not shooting the ball as that’s what he’s “being paid to do”, and it just reinforces that the old college sports model is dead and it’s now minor league sports. <p>The guys are BACK after a very tough week for both Horry and Jenners. Rob was obviously touch-and-go all week with the insane California wildfires. He talks about how he could see them from his house, went several days without power and how he and his wife had to pack the items they felt were irreplaceable in case the worst happened. Thankfully Rob's house was fine and his family is okay. Jenners also had an impossibly hard week, as he and his wife lost their son Cody right after the New Year. Cody Corby was only 32, and the Jenners family is trying to find a way forward without him. </p> <p><br>We quickly pivot back to basketball, and we're all a little bummed that we missed out on the Jason Whitlock and Joy Taylor audio from last week (which we play and laugh at anyway). Plus we get Rob's thoughts on the Jimmy Butler drama in Miami, and if the Heat can even find a way forward if he indeed remains on the roster. Rob tries to figure out where it all went wrong for Jimmy in Miami, who had a good run for a while in that city, and why it's not in Miami's best interest to trade him. </p> <p><br>And everyone jumps in on Zion Williamson's suspension for lateness (and fatness) with the audio of the week from Shannon and Stephen A laying into him. Rob says lateness shows a greater disrespect for the team, and characterizes him as a guy who only cares about himself. Harper points out that he's putting unneeded stress on his body by trying to be a high-flying dunker. Plus a look around the NBA standings, with surprise seasons from the Cavs, Rockets and Grizzlies thus far. <p>The bonus show opens with some love for Ja'Kobi Lane, who caught three touchdowns in the USC Bowl win... but we did NOT expect his voice to sound the way it did! And Rob talks about a time that he was asked to wear NBA Champions shirts before they had actually won, and decided to do it because the money was too good. </p> <p><br>One of the biggest debates of the week in the NBA hits the bonus show, as we get into Wemby shooting a high volume of 3-pointers. Rob wants him to develop his shot from mid-range more than his three. Harp wants him to put on weight. Jenners argues that this is the one time in his career he can goof around with shot selection and build his game outside-in. <p>We are BACK from the holiday break with the news that Robert Horry is on the HALL OF FAME BALLOT! And while he isn't sure he will get in with a crowded nomination class, the fact that he's officially in the conversation is huge. He tells us how he found out, what the reactions have been from friends and fans and why he believes he deserves to be there.</p> <p> </p> <p>Rob also gets into the D'Angelo Russell trade from LA to the Nets (again) and admits that he likes the move for D-Lo's future. Harper thinks Finney-Smith is a great fit for the Lakers if he sticks to his role as a perimeter shooter and defender. And the firing of Mike Brown threw everyone for a loop - and Rob speculates that one of the Kings star players must have sounded off to management and that's what made it happen so abruptly. Mike Malone held nothing back by saying the move shows that Sacramento management has "no class" and how that message resonates to the owners and GMs around the league.</p> <p> </p> <p>Everyone talks about the fun they had on Christmas break, until Rob decided to shoot Jenners a text to remind him that Draymond Green already has 7 techs, as Jenners bet of "under 10" for the season really starts to implode. That leads us into the incident caught on tape where Draymond was cursing out Buddy Hield on the floor and later saying it was his was of motivating him. Everyone makes their picks and we take turns bouncing around the NBA trade radar. It runs the gamut from the annual Jimmy Butler trade rumors, to the Lakers adding pieces they might not need, and everyone scratches their heads at the state of the Washington Wizards.</p> <p>Plus it’s the first round of the College Football Playoffs this weekend, and everyone makes their picks on all the big games. Arguments arise about the legitimacy of a Mountain West Champion in Boise State, how no one has any faith in Notre Dame, and all the questions about James Franklin’s big game record. We wonder if Ohio State will actually show up in a big spot, and Rob picks against his buddy Dabo Swinney as they get ready to face Texas.</p> <p>Freddie Freeman’s baseball also set a record at auction this week, which leads us to ask what sports memorabilia would you want if you had a blank check – and responses ranges from Kobe game-worn gear, to Rob wanting Hank Aaron’s jersey from the day he broke the home run record. And after De’Vandre Campbell quit on the Niners, Rob admits that he’s done it in NBA games when he didn’t want to play “scrub minutes”. <p class="MsoNormal">We open with Rob joking that Jenners is going to lose the Draymond Green less-than 10 technical fouls bet after he got TWO the other night and has already notched four this season. Rob also HATES that the NBA refs continue to put out statements after the games that they missed calls, like what happened on the Jayson Tatum game winner from the other night, and how that doesn’t do anything except upset the fan base. Plus everyone on the show is really happy that Inside the NBA got picked up by ESPN, but to still be produced by Turner, as that show has proved to be a very good spotlight for the league over the years.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Rob also thinks that Mike Tyson just ran out of steam in the Jake Paul fight but does not believe the fight was rigged. And we all laugh at the farce of the Lakers now saying they DON’T want to trade D-Lo because he’s playing so well off the bench, because that’s exactly the time you do trade him! And the Cavaliers are showing the league just how talented they are, from Donovan Mitchell, to Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, they are deep and talented and play great defense… all leading to an impressive, unbeaten start to the season. Plus the conversation about Chet Holmgren’s injury leads into Victor Wembanyama – “the Skinny Committee” – and whether guys who don’t carry much weight can still be offensive dominators in the NBA.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">There is SO much great audio this week, including a check-in on the Draymond Green technical counter, audio from the cockpit during the Auburn basketball team fight that forced the plane to turn around this weekend, the hilarious and amazing Michelle Beadle Nuggets flub, and Pat McAfee leading the wild LSU fans into cursing on live TV! And the audio of Saints coach Darren Rizzi saying he clogged the toilet in the coach’s office on his first day takes us into a conversation about clogging the toilet at other people’s homes. For Rob that’s mostly due a young coach in JJ having no faith in his bench, but he needs to get a hold of that for the Lakers to make a deep run. We’re also surprised at how good the Cavs have been out of the gate, but Rob warns Donovan Mitchell to remember to let his teammates help and not put it all on his shoulders. Plus Jayson Tatum talks about being passed over by the Lakers in the 2017 Draft, and Rob says he understands why that happened because they needed a guard. His surprise came more from them passing on DeAaron Fox and taking Lonzo Ball.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">There are also some sinking ships that need to be discussed early on – and we start with the 1-6 Milwaukee Bucks, who have not looked cohesive to start this season, even though Giannis and Dame have both played well. He wanted to know what athletes could excel in other sports – and Jenners asks about NBA players specifically who we think could play in the NFL. Names like LeBron and Ant of course pop up, but Rob goes with the obvious picks of Charlie Ward and Jalen Suggs, who both played college football.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">As the season unfolds, Rob also wants to know what Wemby can do to put on weight before we get too far in, especially after that video surfaced this week of Stephen Adams backing him down in the post and there was nothing Wemby could do to stop him. Plus after Anthony Richardson checked himself out of the Colts game, it reminds Rob of the time he pulled himself out of a game, but not because he was tired but because he was mad at Latrell Sprewell. Listeners also want to know what Rob thought about Chris Paul taking a swing at Dillon Brooks in the scrum this week, and Rob says that if you wanted to fight a guy in his day you just did it, or met at center court like Kobe and Reggie Miller.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">We have even more listener questions on the table, including – Are the Magic poised for a breakout season? We love that D-Wade got his statue, and Rob jokes that he ever were to get one he would want to make sure it looks exactly like him.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Plus the Lakers have come out of the gates strong, winners of three of their first four games, and Rob is happy with the system he’s seeing so far from LA. JJ is now the front runner to win Coach of the Year which is a hilarious “way too early” prediction for Harper. Rob likes the limited look of plays that the Lakers have rolled out, which is keeping the offense simple. Joel Embiid also got T’d up even though he hasn’t played a game yet this season, due to “left knee management”, which scares everyone about how the Sixers season will play out if he remains on the bench. Jenners also has a wild NBA stat about Ben Simmons that further infuriates the show.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Everyone on the show rolls out their homework for Rob, which was to lay out the six teams from the East and the West that will make the Playoffs this season… and of course everyone’s opinions waver wildly, with a few exceptions. We also touch on the Indiana Fever parting ways with Christie Sides, the WILD end of the OKC-New Orleans game with two buzzer-beater threes, and the total meltdown from the Washington Commanders radio booth after last week’s Hail Mary to win the game. And could Anthony Edwards really leave the NBA to go play football after winning a ring? And everyone struggles to guess the lowest ticket to get in the door, which was the Bulls.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> <p class="MsoNormal">Rob was also surprised to hear Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve go OFF on the WNBA officiating, because while she was right but that’s not something you say in front of the media. We also joke about how Lethal Shooter finally got an amazing picture with Michael Jordan that was out of focus and how he made the mistake of turning to the Internet to fix it. Plus Embiid said this week that he’s done playing back-to-backs, but Rob doesn’t like it because it comes with the territory when you signed your contract. Another listener question to Rob is about the Ball kids, on whether or not they got a fair shake due to their dad, and Rob says they’ve done just fine if they can stay healthy. And we wrap with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni using his kids as a shield at a post-game press conference and Rob says that should only be allowed after you win a title in your respective sport.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Rob is in Vegas for the Lakers and Warriors, doing an event with Rob Pelinka, and gets right into the rumors about the Lakers hunting for a center and wonders what teams even have an impactful center today. Rob also crossed paths with Draymond Green and talks about how well they got along, and Rob was surprised how short he was when they met. And while we’re on the Lakers, we try to figure out how JJ and Rob can sell Bronny to the fanbase if he continues to underperform in the preseason. Rob and B-Dog both try to convince Jenners that it isn’t about basketball, it’s about the story of playing with his dad, and that doesn’t sit right with people who care about wins and losses and not storylines. Kwame Brown also weights in on the Bronny situation and makes some very strong points from a basketball perspective. We also discuss JB Bickerstaff’s new “no hoodies and jewelry” approach to practice and we agree with it so much that it makes us feel like old men. Mike Malone also enters the conversation after calling his guys “soft” as they come into the preseason, which takes us down a road of figuring out if the Nuggets are “stuck” as some have suggested. Everyone also has some congratulations for the inductees into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and Rob thinks the Liberty are going to win the WNBA Finals amidst record ratings for that series. Rob also made an appearance at the NLDS for his close friend Jack Flaherty, who pitched lights out in Game 1 of the Championship Series. In the wake of the Menendez brothers show on Netflix, it has surfaced that both brothers were photographed in the background of a Mark Jackson 1990-91 NBA Hoops card and people are asking them to sign it. It stems into a conversation about the strangest things Rob was asked to sign, and people even wanted him to sign baseballs which makes NO sense. Rob also gets his first look at the wild fight between two female fans happening in the background of KhaDarel Hodge’s celebration video after catching the game winning touchdown last Thursday night, taking us into stories about where we witnessed our favorite fights. Eminem having a grandchild made us all feel old, and we relate that to seeing other people from our youth get older that makes us feel old. Plus Rob offers up his thoughts on the young Rockets roster going into this season, and how he’s excited to see what they can put together. And we close out the show with the strange story of Rashee Rice’s mother being a porch pirate, and what was stolen from our homes by porch pirates.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">With B-Dog running late as we start the big show, Rob jokes about how a Raisin truck wrecked and took him out one week on his way home, which seems like the most implausible excuse ever. Oh and basketball is BACK and Rob is already working back in the studio, and we get right into whether Bronny is ready for the show or not. We all seem to agree that he isn’t ready, Rob thinks he still gets the pass to play early in the season, and is hopeful that this push to get him to play with LeBron doesn’t set him back in his career development. Plus Rob weighs in on JJ’s interaction with the media regarding the questions about Rui, being combative like he was on First Take, and uses the opportunity to tell us how Rui will fit into the Lakers lineup this season. And it wouldn’t be a wild week of college football upsets if we didn’t dance on Rob’s grave after Alabama’s epic loss to Vanderbilt, and we have some laughs with the audio of Diego Pavia after the game and how much money he just made for himself. Pat Bev also chimes in on the “disrespect” for Doc Rivers which cracks Rob up, as the played for Phil Jackson in his prime and the comparison of Doc and Phil is wildly unwarranted. That also segues us into Pat’s take on Ben Simmons and how none of us have any expectations for him on the floor. And the early betting odds are out for who could win Coach of the Year… and we don’t even KNOW some of these guys, leading us to play an impromptu game of “Who He Coach For?” And we round out the show with discussion of Caitlin Clark winning Rookie of the Year, the heated rivalry between the Dodgers and Padres this week, a very cool Big Shot of the Week… and to honor Kirk Cousins doing his post-Thursday interview from the parking lot of a Waffle House, it’s another edition of Walmart or Waffle House!</p>

Plus Rob landed himself in the news this week by saying he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, which leads us into a conversation about Pete Rose and whether MLB should lift his ban now that he’s passed on. That also brings us into the conversation about the loss of Dikembe Mutombo, one of the most iconic big men to ever play the game and an amazing ambassador for the NBA across the globe. And we have a ton of stuff to talk about on the heels of NBA Media Day, first and foremost being Draymond Green. Harper salutes him for refusing to take any accountability for suspensions and time missed, while Jenners really just wants SOME kind of accountability from him after everything he’s been through. Respect to the Milwaukee reporter who asked Dame about Gorilla shooting her shot as Rob jokes about how much fun Media Days can be. And the Knicks did a lot of squirming behind the mics because they couldn’t talk about the Karl Anthony-Towns trade, as Rob thinks Milwaukee made a HUGE mistake letting him go! Paul Pierce said this week that the Knicks won’t win a championship in his lifetime, and Rob is hesitant to agree, and the audio of Tom Brady cooking Baker Mayfield reminded us of Kobe Bryant. Georgia vs Alabama breaks into the show, which leads us to a funny Big Shot of the Week, and we close it out with another fun round of Bet On Yourself.</p>
