The End Time Church: The Best of Times, The Worst of Times (Part 1)

Jake McCandless provides a compelling comparison using Charles Dickens' famous quote from A Tale of Two Cities, about the best of times and the worst of times during pre-revolution London and Paris, with the end-of-the-age Church. Throughout his Stand Firm events and teachings, Jake often quotes that the Bible gives a detailed picture of the church at the end of the age. Most of that picture is heart-breaking, as Scripture warns of many who turn away from the Faith; but in the middle of such devastating passages there are prophecies of the Church being what it truly should be. Jake walks through a passage that contains both sides of this double edge sword of the end-time Church. In Matthew 24:9-14, one can find the worst news about the Church and its ultimate accomplishment. This dichotomy of the end-of-the-age Church is worded explicitly in Scripture, but it has also manifested itself throughout history as the Church has been persecuted.

Prayer and The Second Coming of Jesus

Ron Wallace relates a few general principles about prayer, and then discusses what kind of prayer guidelines the believer should follow in view of the second coming of Jesus. For believers, prayer is a very comforting and powerful activity God has designed for fellowshipping with His children, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Whether prayer revolves around praise, giving of thanks, praying for others or for self, it all revolves around the principle of trust in what God has done and what He has promised to do. This message will help you develop “faith rest”, as the days of Christ’s second coming draw near.

Defining End Times Terms: The End of the Age and The Age to Come

Dr. Michael Weis of Zion's Hope tackles two more End Times terms: "The End of the Age" and "The Age to Come". These terms are connected, but how does the Bible define them? You may be surprised to learn that it is not as complex as some make it. Find out how God's Word and Jewish theology define them - and why it matters - in this Bible Prophecy Daily episode of "Defining End Times Terms...Biblically".

Daniel 9:24-27 – Past, Present or Future: Answering the Symbolist

Bob Hunt of Zion’s Hope in Winter Garden, Florida concludes his five-part series “Past, Present or Future”. The goal of this series is to look at Daniel’s profound prophecy, found in Daniel 9:24-27, one verse at a time. This text is hotly debated and two positions appear to rise above the rest. The first view, which Bob labels the Symbolist view, determines that the events described by Daniel have substantially all occurred in the past. Also, any reference to years is not to be taken literally, but more symbolically with a theological point of view. In addition, Daniel’s 70th week began in the first century and continues until the return of Jesus Christ. The second view, labeled the Literalist view, considers Daniel’s 70 weeks to be literally understood. The events are real events in time and the passage of time can be reasonably calculated. The Literalist understands the events of the 70th week as not having taken place, thus a future fulfillment is necessary. In this last session Bob will conclude by answering the Symbolist question, “if this week is so important and future coming, then why is Daniel 9:27 the only Scripture text mentioning it?” The answer to this question will demonstrate a future fulfillment of this week and show how many other texts tie nicely into Daniel’s 70th week prophecy. Finally a conclusion will be made concerning Daniel’s prophecy. The Literalist point of view in these five sessions is more than reasonable. Careful consideration should be given when determining which viewpoint to hold. We need always to consider how the original audience would have interpreted this prophecy. It is highly unlikely that Daniel would have received this message in any other way other than literally.

The Rapture in the Revelation: A Synthetic View (Part 2)

In this session, Charles Cooper concludes his defense for rejecting the dominant views on the timing of the rapture. He delineates why he is convinced that the synthetic view of the timing of the rapture best explains the textual details in Scripture. Taking the strengths of the Pre-, Mid-, and Post-trib positions and adding the defining straight of the PreWrath position, Cooper sets forth the four pillars that must undergird the correct rapture position. Cooper insists that if his position is viable, one must see in the Revelation About Christ a significant gathering of God’s people to heaven near the beginning of God’s eschatological wrath on earth. Seven passages in Revelation may support an indirect reference to the rapture: Revelation 3:10; 4:1-2; 7:9-17; 11:11-19; 12:1-5; 14:14-16; and 19:11-20:4. Each passage has been espoused by at least one of the dominant rapture positions.

Prophetic Lessons from Covid: “It Won’t Happen as Soon as You Think”

Jake McCandless continues his series, "Prophetic Lessons from Covid". In this series Jake reflects on the Covid-19 pandemic and the faith fallout with it, seeing it as a “test run” or “shot across the bow”. For those tracking in Bible prophecy before the pandemic they had the unique experience of being warned, being called to try to warn, and then seeing it come to pass in some way. Very few prophetic voices have been able to see such a hint of what they were warned about come to pass. It’s time we reflect on the possible prophetic lessons from that time. What lessons can be learned prophetically from covid? This episode is for watchmen or watchwomen who not only track Bible prophecy and its unfolding, but who also help others prepare. Due to what they see being fulfilled, most watchmen feel the end of the age is soon upon us. How the events of Covid took a reprieve and didn’t usher in The End should teach us that prophetic events won’t happen as soon as we think. For one generation it will, but not for all. Watchmen need to keep the urgency, but balance it with God’s patience.

In this session, Charles Cooper begins a study of the Book of Revelation with the intent to determine which passage most likely evidences the timing of the rapture. In this introductory session, Cooper explains that the correct view is a synthetic view that adopts the biblically defensible truths taken from the three dominant views of previously held rapture positions, i.e., Pre-, Mid-, and Posttribulationism. Cooper highlights the pros and cons of each rapture position, which have prevented each position from becoming the single majority view.

The Last Days According to Peter: “This One Fact”

Marquis Laughlin examines what the Apostle Peter learned and taught about the Last Days. The Apostle Peter may have been the one person who looked forward to Christ’s Kingdom the most. Known as “the Apostle of Hope”, his view of the timing and nature of the coming reign of Christ changed dramatically as he came into a deeper knowledge of God. Peter reminds us to not forget “this one fact” when it comes to the timing of the Lord’s return. Unfortunately, this “one fact” is something the modern church rarely teaches and has largely forgotten.

Prophetic Lessons from Covid: “There Won’t Be Daily Reminders”

Jake McCandless continues his series, "Prophetic Lessons from Covid". What lessons can be learned prophetically from Covid? Though God guides us through His Word and the direction of the Holy Spirit, He doesn’t stay on our cases. We need to learn that we are to step forward courageously in obedience even in silence. Watchmen need to learn that God will not hammer them with daily reminders, but that doesn’t mean He has changed His mind or voided their calling.

Michael Ufferman, a Zion’s Hope teaching staff member, continues his series of messages entitled: “Christ: Yesterday, Today, and Forever”. In this part 3, he shows how Scripture is very clear that, though it says “no man has seen God”, Abraham did see God. This is when God’s triune, three-in-one nature becomes important. Nobody has seen God, the Father, but the visible manifestation of God is seen in God, the Son. Before Christ was born to Mary, His pre-incarnate being was seen as the “Angel of the Lord”. The series continues in Part 4.

Daniel 9:24-27 – Past Present Future? Symbolic vs. Literal Views, cont’d

Bob Hunt has been examining Daniel 9:24-27 verse by verse. This detailed study focuses on two main viewpoints. The first is whether these verses have already occurred in our past or does any of it have a future fulfillment. The second point is whether these verses are to be taken literally or symbolically with a theological meaning. The literalist understands the years and events described by Daniel in a natural sense with common understanding. Specifically, "a year is a year". Therefore Daniel’s 70 weeks are 490 literal years. The symbolist finds it necessary to view these verses in a symbolic manner, and understands a theological meaning behind Daniel’s words. Thus segments of time are presenting theological events and are not to be seen as literal years. Bob has challenged the listener to gather the evidence of both viewpoints and then make a determination as to which one is most reasonable. In this exposition of Daniel 9:27 Bob will present again both the symbolists understanding and the literalists viewpoint. The symbolist understands this verse to be a description of the events occurring in verse 26. Jesus Christ is the maker of the new covenant. The destroyer of the city and temple in 70AD is the Roman general Titus who brings an end to sacrifice and offering. The 70th week of Daniel includes the temple destruction in the middle. The last part of the 70th week is a time when believers are continually added and will continue until the return of Jesus Christ. There is no 7 year period of time coming in the future. The literalist argues that the chronological aspect of Daniel's teaching continues. The one week is a literal 7-year segment of time yet to come. This week will bring about the end of the age. In the middle of this week, 3-½ years, sacrifice and offering will end. This necessitates the building of a new temple, but likely much less ornate than in the past. Finally the one who rises in the middle of this week and destroys, will himself be destroyed. This “one” is the biblical Antichrist. Since a period of time like this and a person this evil has yet to appear in history, a futurist perspective must be held. The interpretation of this verse broadens the gap between the literalist and the symbolist. The impact of choosing one or the other will affect so many other eschatological passages. So choose carefully by deciding which one is most reasonable.

Daniel 9:24-27 – Past Present Future? Symbolic vs. Literal Views

Bob Hunt continues his verse-by-verse examination of this important eschatological passage. As he unpacks the passage he will focus in on whether these verses should be held as being in the “Past, Present or Future”. A person’s view will have many theological and eschatological implications. If all in the past then Daniel’s seventieth week has a far different meaning than if in the future. A second focal point is whether these verses were intended to be taken symbolically or literally. If symbolically then dating is less significant as we unfold the symbolic meaning behind the various events. If literally, then we should be able to point to times when these events took place. In the first two sessions, concerning verses 9:24-25, we saw how it was reasonable to hold to a literal view and see dates and times as historically recorded. In this third session, Bob will continue to look at these two focal points. Most will agree that the events in verse 9:26 have already occurred in our past and are recorded in our history books. However, when comparing the symbolic view to the literal view the differences become strikingly apparent. The symbolic view sees this verse starting with Jesus baptism or cross and continuing until His return (still in our future). During this time the temple and city are destroyed and the nation of Israel is no longer the focal point. Since Jesus has not returned those alive today are living in the second half of Daniel’s seventieth week. This will be further investigated and explained in session four. In contrast the literalist continues to interpret these verses as literal years and events. However they cannot simply add the seven years after the seven weeks and sixty-two weeks because then the prophecy would have ended in 37AD. Bob Hunt discusses the need and plausibility of inserting a gap of time in between the sixty-ninth week and the seventieth week. This gap of time pushes the final seven years into our future. This maintains a literal point of view and a futurist view for the completion of Daniel’s prophecy. The purpose of this gap is also explained. Rather than replacing Israel the gospel is preached and gentiles are added to the tree while maintaining Israel as a nation. Romans 11:25-26 offers a great explanation. In conclusion Bob challenges the listener to consider all the arguments and determine the most reasonable point of view, symbolic or literal. Either most, or all, of the events of Daniel 9:24-27 have occurred or there is a seven year period of time yet to be experienced.

Daniel 9:24-27 – Past, Present or Future? “The 483 Years”

Bob Hunt continues his study of Daniel 9:24-27. The two overarching areas of emphasis are first, whether these verses are concerning our past, present or our future and secondly, should we interpret this section literally or would a symbolic theological approach be better. Each session of this study will focus on one verse and unpack the meaning in light of these two concerns. Then in conclusion we will summarize our findings to draw an overall conclusion. There are several views on this passage and many will debate it vigorously. Therefore, when a section like this is studied we gather evidence and then choose the most reasonable interpretation. Session one pointed to a more literal interpretation as being the most probable. In this second-part epsiode, we will unpack verse 25 with the same two areas of concern in mind. This verse is describing events that have all concluded in the past. The starting point may be debated, but all commentators and theologians agree that the first coming of Jesus Christ is the end. Thus all 483 years laid out by Daniel have already occurred. It is the second point that raises much debate and discussion. Those who take a more symbolic view of these 483 years hold to a starting point of 538BC and conclude with Jesus first coming. This period of time, with this approach, covers about 570 years and therefore they say it must be symbolic. It depicts a time of great struggle for the Jewish people leading up to the Messiah. Those who hold to a literal view of this timeline point to another starting point. There are several theologians and historians who demonstrate how 483 years can be shown literally. The 49 years in this verse describe the time needed to rebuild Jerusalem. This was done under great distress as written in Ezra and Nehemiah. If we can interpret a passage in a more literal way with a natural reading and common understanding then this should be our first approach. Certainly, Daniel would have understood it that way. Be sure to look for Daniel 9:24-27 “Past, Present or Future” Part Three as we look at verse 9:26.

Just as one can see Satanic opposition to God's agenda in many historically significant events in the Bible that at first glance did not have explicit reference to Satan. The book of Esther, Isil's attempt to drive out the Assyrian Christians from their traditional homeland, has more to do with God's eschatological promise than many might know.
