Ep 369How do I know if I’m done? 8 adults, 1 powerful conversation - with the whole BTB team

A topic that comes up in the Beyond the Bump community daily is the big question, “how do you know when you’re done?” Yep - are you planning on having more children? And do we all get that feeling of knowing our family is complete? Or is that a myth? Spoiler alert, about half of us cry! We discuss… Those of us who feel ‘done’ and how we know Does your children’s gender influence your desire for more kids? Soaking up a pregnancy knowing it is your ‘last’ - is this meaningful or just another milestone that actually makes us feel guilty? Grappling with the pressures of modern day life when your heart wishes for more children How our previous challenges impact our decisions That feeling of finding yourself and your ‘new normal’ after pregnancy Hannah, our audio editor, doesn’t have a partner or children and shares honestly how family planning is a constant pressure How fertility issues, relationship breakdowns and mental health play a part Is it harder to lean on your ‘village’ when you have multiple children? …and so much more! How the constant mental load, multitasking and being chronically online all contribute to an overwhelmed nervous system Small daily habits that we can use to help calm ourselves down (the real self-care!) The ‘switch cost effect’ and how it is really impacting mothers Children’s innate ability to be present Our biological need to rest in order for our brain to function productively How ‘the infinite scroll’ and picking up our phones keeps us in fight/flight 5 strategies to use when you’re overwhelmed Links mentioned in this episode: Read Jodi’s book here Find Jodi on Substack here or on Instagram at @practisingimplicity This episode is proudly sponsored by Tonies. Could hybrid learning be the answer to Sophie’s concerns? Sophie and Nick have made the decision to unenrol Pearl from pre-school and the relief is tangible Jayde shares how her and Harry’s first marriage counselling session went down. Ep 360REPLAY: Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by motherhood? Being compassionate with ourselves - with Belinda Haan

This week we are replaying this episode which contains honest, personal discussions about difficult emotions such as rage and anger. Motherhood provides plenty of experiences of joy, love and gratitude but it also contains frustration, exhaustion, anger and overwhelm among many other emotional states. When we know that difficult emotions are an inherent part of motherhood, and being human, it can help us feel less alone or prevent us from experiencing shame. Emotions are an automatic response to internal or external stimuli. We don’t get to choose what arises but we can learn to work with what comes up and how to meet our needs to feel okay. There were a few ideas shared on how to work with difficult emotions on this episode and there are plenty more in The Emotional Support for Mothers toolkit. However, we all know that the reality is that it can be hard to experience and make sense of these emotions on our own. If you are experiencing persistent painful feelings you need and deserve love, care and support. Please contact your doctor to discuss how to get the compassionate support you deserve. Ep 351Bumpie Group Chat (unfiltered) - To post or not to post your kids online? Do butterflies really only live 24hrs and tips on how NOT to record a podcast.

Recording this episode was truly a comedy of errors in tech land - think mics dropping out, Wi-Fi giving up on life, and Jayde forgetting how headphones work. But! Amongst the chaos, we dive into a super honest chat about something many parents grapple with: sharing their kids online. Sophie opens up about why she’s stepped back from posting images of her little ones, from privacy worries to the weirdness of strangers recognising them. Jayde shares the flip side: why she still feels comfortable posting her kids and how she navigates it in a way that feels safe and right for her family. No judgement, no rules - just two friends unpacking a very modern parenting dilemma. And because it wouldn’t be a without a little chaos… we also get into the intrusive repeative thoughts.
