Ep 129The Human Garage with Garry Lineham— The Bledsoe Show #129

Garry Lineham (@humangaragela), co-founder of Human Garage, is a lifelong bio-hacker who believes that the human body was designed to heal itself. He started Human Garage as a vehicle to give people the correct input to start that healing. Garry himself lived in chronic pain for over 20 years. During that time, he became increasingly frustrated with the countless treatment modalities that only addressed his symptoms. He realized the root of the problem wasn't being solved and set out to do just that. Human Garage is based on the principle that optimal health is achieved through complete alignment— restoring the natural functions of the body to enjoy pain-free, full-range of motion. Garry is proud of the fact that medical doctors and therapists from around the world are now coming to Venice, California to learn the Human Garage way of repairing and re-balancing the human body. In this episode, Gary gives why stretching doesn't work and the issue isn't the issue. How the body is all connected as one. How the Human Garage began and what sets it apart from other places. Minute Breakdown: 0 - 18 Muscles have signals. If you don't get a signal to body part you are working on, then you need to fix that because you are over compensating other areas. Traditionally people power through aches and pains and don't resolve it. What does it mean to have your body compensate itself back into alignment? 18 –29 There's one reason why all these injuries happen and it is stress. People work out to get rid of stress and then end up injured. Fascia is woven everywhere throughout your body. It's like an intricate network of webbing that connects each part of you to everything else. How we walk with our hips not our feet. If your systems aren't working together than it has an effect on performance. You want your muscles to work better, but really you need the whole body to be working together. 29 - 42 How meridian lines show hidden throughout your body, connections you can't see and would never consider. They are useful in showing us the connections between muscles, joints, nerves, and organs. Drilling down to the real issue, lin internal organs, then you heal faster. Food staying in the system too long and doesn't absorb protein which then turns to cards. When your body is achy in muscle and joints, it's because the body can't recover. 42 – 50: Gary changed model so people don't have to come in as much. They are now training external preactionars so they can expand the Human Garage. Human Garage having CBD essential oil steamed shower, hot or cold baths, offering the total conscious spa experience. What's organic structured wine? People from all over the world are calling for Human Garbage treatment because of what takes 3 hours to heal, will take minutes at Human Garage because of their techniques. Postural alignment and client education are two key elements of the Human Garage program. --------------------------------------------------- Show notes: https://shruggedcollective.com/tbs-lineham --------------------------------------------------- ► Travel thru Europe with us on the Shrugged Voyage, more info here: https://www.theshruggedvoyage.com/ ► What is the Shrugged Collective? Ep 127Know Pain, Know Gain and Why Sore Muscles Are Not The Answer w/ Dr. Andy Galpin — The Bledsoe Show #127

Dr. Andy Galpin is the Director of Education: Andy is a tenured Professor in the Center for Sport Performance at CSU Fullerton. He was born and raised in beautiful Rochester, WA and is a die-hard Seahawks, Huskies, & Mariner fan. RIP Sonics. As a youth, Andy played every sport at his disposal, excelling at Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field. While not playing, he worked at grocery stores, gas stations, hay fields, blueberry farms, and in the road construction business. It was during this time he discovered Strength & Conditioning. Andy took his limited talents to Linfield College to join their Football team and pursue a degree in Exercise Science. While he experienced great success in both (2004 National Championship and 2x Captain and immediate inductee into the "All Ugly" Team), the true reward of this time was the meeting of lifelong friend (Doug Larson). The two fed each other's pursuit of knowledge of human performance and led them to attend the University of Memphis for the Masters degrees in Human Movement Sciences. A bit of luck and excellent faculty mentoring led Doug and Andy to meet Mike Bledsoe and the man formally known as "Barbell Buddha" Chris Moore - all of which later led to the creation of the #1 Health & Fitness Podcast in the world Barbell Shrugged. It also marked the start of Andy's competitive Weightlifting (culminating in his 7th Place finish in the 2007 National Championships), Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu careers. Needing to know more about muscle, Andy spent 4 years studying the structure and function of human skeletal muscle at the single cell level, a feat which earned him a PhD in Human Bioenergetics in 2011. This also resulted in the friendship with frequent collaborator Dr. Jimmy Bagley and the ability to open up his own "Biochemistry and Molecular Exercise Physiology Laboratory" at CSU Fullerton. Ep 8Build Muscle with Mindfulness: A Masterclass On Understanding Yourself and Your Goals with Ben Pakulski — Muscle Maven Radio Episode #8

Ben Pakulski (@bpakfitness) is an IFBB bodybuilding pro who's competed in the Arnold Classic and Mr. Olympia, and now runs a successful muscle building program and gym in Tampa Florida called Mi40. He also offers business mentorship coaching, hosts the popular Muscle Intelligence Podcast, and travels the world speaking about the practical, scientific, and mental aspects of living a healthy, happy, and fit life. Ashleigh sits down with IFBB pro bodybuilder, podcast host, and owner of a successful gym and coaching business, the bodybuilding yogi, Ben Pakulski for a deep dive about Ben's work to change the paradigm of muscle building: to encourage fitness enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds to approach their goals with as much introspection, mindfulness, and strategic thinking as possible. We cover topics like encouraging young people to find their own personalized approach to fitness; practical ways to reverse-engineer your goals in order to establish clear steps to achieve them; how pain and empathy helps you grow (both in the gym and the rest of your life); and some personal stories about how Ben became the muscle expert that he is—starting out as a skinny, vegetarian runner who was told repeatedly he would never find success in bodybuilding. Minute Breakdown: 5 - 13 Intro to Ben's background with and passion for bodybuilding, including the fact that he started as a vegetarian runner and gained 70 pounds in a year through food and training when he was 17 13 – 25 How Ben is trying to change the paradigm around muscle building through his work, including his plan to create resources for teenagers to learn the tools needed to develop their own personalized muscle building program. We discuss the importance of positive influence and direction for young people, and how he encourages his own kids to be fit and healthy 25 - 34 The limitations of our obsession with trying to quantify movements and exercises, and why most people need to focus on mastering the basics before worrying about details 34 - 39 The importance of sticking to the goals you set even when your plans change; knowing you can stick to your word is a base from which so much success and growth can happen. How to pinpoint what gives you joy and make time for those things and be intentional about creating joyful moments so you don't crave quick fixes or seek comfort with distraction. 39 - 45 through a very personal story about Ben's upbringing we discuss the importance of relationships, how to invest in them, how to communicate, and how this can inform your health. How pain can help you grow if you find gratitude in the learning experience and bring empathy and understanding to your interactions 45 - 58 – We discuss ways to reverse-engineer our goals by understanding and clarifying what value we bring to the table. A discussion of his work with business mentorship clients 58 -: In goal setting and achieving a happy, healthy, fulfilled life, we talk about how to "find your why" and identify not only what your goals are but why those are your goals, so you have a deep level of clarity when challenges arise ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Show notes: http://www.shruggedcollective.com/mmr-pakulski ---------------------------------------------------------------------- @whoop: https://www.whoop.com - "Shrugged" for 15% off a WHOOP ► Subscribe to Shrugged Collective's Channel Here http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedSubscribe 📲 🎧 Listen to the audio version on the Apple Podcast App or Stitcher for Android Here- http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedApple http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedStitcher Shrugged Collective is a network of fitness, health and performance shows that help people achieve their physical and mental health goals. This week on The Bledsoe Show Mike talks with old-school Barbell Business podcast host and two-time world-record-setting powerlifter AJ Roberts. In this episode we talk about the practice of making things unimportant, how cognitive dissonance is hijacking your life, why mediation without action is limiting your capacity, the new wave of intelligence, why people fill their spaces with stuff, how globalization is waking people up, how you can experience the greatest joy and sadness all at once, and much more. Ep 4All About Women's Bodybuilding, and What Happens When Your Picture Goes Viral on Social Media with Koko King — Muscle Maven Radio Episode #4

Koreena King (aka Koko) has been in the bodybuilding world for less than a decade, but has made a name for herself in her native Ontario with her in-depth knowledge of the bodybuilding world, as well as her posing coaching and competition makeup skills. She's worked as a posing coach and makeup artist in the industry for years. We're all a part of the social media community, consuming and observing trends, online behavior, and interaction. The fitness community online can be especially harsh, with plenty of judgement to go around (from your form, to the way you look, to the validity of your accomplishments, and more). But have you ever stopped to think about how you would feel if a picture of you went viral, shared on dozens of accounts with tens of thousands of people commenting on your appearance? My guest today, Koreena King, is a bodybuilder who dealt with this very thing. We discuss what it's like to get hundreds of comments and messages a day (many of them kind, but many of them extremely abusive), what it's like to look different from the "typical norm" even within the bodybuilding community and how to maintain a strong sense of self in an increasingly superficial online world, and we deep dive into women's bodybuilding in general: the different categories, what it's like to train and compete, drug use, and much more. Enjoy! -Ashleigh Minute Breakdown: 6 – 29 A chat about competitive women's bodybuilding: different categories, conditioning, competition, judging, and posing 29 - 42 – Koko's personal journey with competition prep, diet, experience with contest prep drugs or "gear" like Anavar, Winstrol and others, including side effects 42 - 56 - Koko's story about her picture going viral, and how she dealt with it being shared dozens of times and commented on by tens of thousands of people; a larger discussion about the psychology behind social media 56 – How we can develop a strong sense of self offline in an industry (and world) where we live so much of our lives on social media; and how to develop empathy for people on social media, even the ones leaving nasty comments! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Show notes: http://www.shruggedcollective.com/mmr-king ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ► Subscribe to Shrugged Collective's Channel Here http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedSubscribe 📲 🎧 Listen to the audio version on the Apple Podcast App or Stitcher for Android Here- http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedApple http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedStitcher Shrugged Collective is a network of fitness, health and performance shows that help people achieve their physical and mental health goals. Ep 66Persistence of a Fanboy w/ Herky Garcia — Real Chalk #66

In this week's episode I sit down with a fan boy named Herky Garcia (@herkygarcia). Herky emailed me back in 2015 to work and train at my gym. I said no. He continued to stay persistent and even came down for a visit one weekend and asked me again in person. I said no again. Eventually he decided to just move to Orange County and gamble on this dream of working out at CHALK and hanging out with one of his idols (me). Fast forward to today and he not only has a job here, but we consistently have sit downs where I give him motivating talks and try to teach him as much as I can. The reason I think this show is so great is because like Herky, there's a ton of people out there reaching out to their idols and trying to make a move like this. In this episode Herky tells me how he had several living situation mishaps while being here including a few weeks where he slept in his car and even the gym. He asks me questions that he's always wanted to know and I also answer a few questions off of social media. If you've ever been a fan of me or anyone else in this space and wondered what it would be like to drop everything and move, then this is the show for you. Thane Marcus has spent the past four years deep diving into personal development. Although the object of that development was the arena of professional golf, the subject of that development was himself. The main service that Thane is providing is what he calls Collaboration — Development and Performance Coaching (a combination of Coaching, Consulting, and Creating). Along with these services, Thane is committed to providing consistent and thought-provoking content through written blog-posts each month, and through the content he produces on The Up & Comers Show. Ep 120Jesse Elder: Curiosity, Intelligence, And The Difference Between Effort And Struggle — The Bledsoe Show #120

Jesse Elder's (@jesseelderlive) own journey to self-mastery unfolded as he grew up in a family of 7. Being homeschooled, Jesse was given the gift by his parents of being largely self-directed in his education and spent hours exploring ideas that interested him. At the age of 9 Jesse was introduced to martial arts. Hitting the mats every week became a passion that would play a powerful role throughout Jesse's life. Coming out of his teenage years, Jesse learned that some things in life are too important to ignore and even though it might be uncomfortable, you must do what you think is right. This lesson helped give Jesse the courage to open his own school, which eventually transformed into him realizing that big ideas aren't just for one person, but for anyone who desires more out of their life. The result of this realization is his website, jesseelder.com, which is a "vault" of mind videos at anyone's disposal. In this episode we talk with Jesse about unconditional acceptance of self, developing a mindset of curiosity, the difference between effort and struggle, obeying the laws of nature, and, the all important question, last month, how many things did you do for the first time? You'll find lots of truth in this episode from a man who manages to live life faster than me. Enjoy! -Mike Episode Breakdown: ⚡️0-10: Jesse has tried a lot, here is what he's not going to recommend to you (hint: he won't allow you to live through him) ⚡️11-20: Why you need unconditional acceptance of yourself before you can serve others ⚡️21-30: Developing a mindset of curiosity leads to an expanded sense of intelligence and the difference between effort and struggle ⚡️31-40: Thought, feeling, action, repeat: The power of obeying the laws of nature ⚡️ 41-50: Memories and how we create the past every time we visit it ⚡️51-60: Blurring the lines of past, present, and future and the power of presence ⚡️61-70: Time is a narrative constructed by language, the importance of context, and the moment between the parentheses ⚡️71-80: The power of practicing courage and creating alignment in your life ⚡️81-90: Choosing to release resistance in your life ⚡️91-100: Why Jesse shaved his beard off ⚡️10-112: Last month, how many things did you do for the first time? --------------------------------------------------- Show notes: https://shruggedcollective.com/tbs-elder --------------------------------------------------- Please support our partners! @organifi - www.organifi.com/shrugged to save 20% @cateredfit - cateredfit.com "BLEDSOE25" to save 25% ► Travel thru Europe with us on the Shrugged Voyage, more info here: https://www.theshruggedvoyage.com/ ► What is the Shrugged Collective? Ep 1Devon Larratt: Why Pain Is Information And A Deep Dive Into A Sport You Know Nothing About — Muscle Maven Radio Episode #1

Devon Larratt (@devlarratt) is a world champion arm wrestler (in both arms) and received mainstream fame with his YouTube video defeating The Mountain Thor Bjornsson in an armwrestling match. He's also a twenty-year veteran of the Canadian military, with time spent in an elite special forces unit, and one of the most dedicated athletes on the planet–with a healthy dose of humor, stoicism, and just plain genetic freakiness. In this deep-dive interview with Devon, we talk about how he found the sport of armwrestling, how he came to dominate the sport–including his training, diet, mindset, and even psychological warfare tactics against his opponents. We also talk about his military service and how he is able to transfer the intensity and stress of that job to help him excel in his chosen sport, and in life in general. We also go on tangents including drugs and drug testing in armwrestling, how women are navigating the traditionally male-dominated sport, and pain and injury management— and how many arms Devon's broken during his career. Ep 60The New Sportscenter of Crossfit w/ Armen Hammer — Real Chalk #60

Armen Hammer and I go way back to the early days of throwing barbells around. We've both been through some major transitions and seen a ton of changes happen in the CrossFit space. It's been a couple years, so we had a lot of catching up to do when we met up in Florida during Wodapalooza weekend. After leaving the Wodcast Podcast, Armen worked for FloElite until they downsized. He saw an opportunity and set out to become the SportsCenter of CrossFit. You need the new format explained in layman's terms? Armen's your guy (there's another Waterworld reference here, so it's obviously important and if you haven't watched it by now, stop what you're doing and MAKE IT HAPPEN). And because he's not affiliated with CrossFit, he can curate his content however he likes, with complete unfiltered creative freedom. There's at least one perk of landing yourself on HQ's bad side. We talk about social media, what the different platforms are ideal for, how Twitter should just die already, and what my MySpace looked like back in the day. Armen gives an update on what his fellow former Wodcast hosts are up to these days, and we take a trip down memory lane to the good old days with Ronnie Teasdale (he's selling sex cult memberships now). It gets a little weird from there, but what did you expect? This is a Real CHALK episode. 😜 -Ryan 0:00 🌴 Miami Beach is a real-life LMFAO music video, and the Ubers are garbage 3:45 🌴 Armen's Wodcast Podcast origins, how originality doesn't always translate into staying power 8:00 🌴 FloElite went sour, and now he does his own thing: YouTube, podcasts 9:00 🌴 Let's break it down: good content helps, but what drives traffic is tags (but you better already have an audience) 11:00 🌴 Armen is the middleman: he knows what's up with CrossFit and how to explain it to the layperson 21:00 🌴 The shelf life of great content: Instagram isn't google-able, YouTube is an index, and you should invest in a high-quality potato 30:00 🌴 How many subscribers is a lot? 33:00 🌴 The ad-pocalypse: you can see exactly how much money videos make you, and the big names have production teams 41:00 🌴 The early days of CrossFit (Ronnie Teasdale is selling sex cult memberships now, and Fisch doesn't hand out death threats so readily) 49:30 🌴 Don't call Fisch the CrossFit guy: how not to get pigeonholed 53:00 🌴 This is Armen's thing: YouTube lets you get paid to do ANYTHING 54:45 🌴 Weirdest thing you've ever searched on a porn site? And no, aliens didn't actually land in Ryan's childhood bedroom 1:01:30 🌴 What's Armen doing at Wodapalooza anyway, and how do you figure out who's up and coming these days? 1:06:30 🌴 What's up with the Wodcast guys? Scott hosts the Sisu Way, and Eddie's doing comedy and recording out of a bus 1:14:00 🌴 Let's talk about the reformatting: what's the "right" direction? Sports built from the ground up can't be controlled by a single entity—one-facet coverage is propaganda 1:18:30 🌴 Armen got kicked out of the Games—why keep being in a space where people don't like you? 1:21:00 🌴 It's just @ArmenHammerTV everywhere, but not really Twitter even though Donald Trump revived it. And armenhammer.tv on the internets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Show notes: http://www.shruggedcollective.com/rc-hammer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please Support Our Sponsor: @bioptimizers: www.BiOptimizers.com/realchalk "realchalk" to save 37% ► Subscribe to Shrugged Collective's Channel Here http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedSubscribe 📲 🎧 Listen to the audio version on the Apple Podcast App or Stitcher for Android Here- http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedApple http://bit.ly/BarbellShruggedStitcher Shrugged Collective is a network of fitness, health and performance shows that help people achieve their physical and mental health goals.
