Kelly Starrett, DPT is a coach, physical therapist, author, and speaker. Along with his wife Juliet, Kelly is co-founder of The Ready State. The Ready State began as Mobility|WOD in 2008, and has gone on to revolutionize the field of performance therapy and self-care. Kelly received his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2007 from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, California. Kelly's clients include professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. He also works with Olympic gold-medalists, Tour de France cyclists, world and national record holding Olympic Lifting and Power athletes, Crossfit Games medalists, ballet dancers, military personnel, and competitive age-division athletes. Kelly is the author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers Becoming A Supple Leopard and Ready to Run. He is also co-author (with Juliet) of the Wall Street Journal Bestseller Deskbound. His latest book, Waterman 2.0, offers water-sport athletes a comprehensive guide to optimized movement and pain-free performance. On top of co-founding The Ready State, Kelly and Juliet also started San Francisco CrossFit and StandUpKids together. Founded in 2005, San Francisco CrossFit was the 21st CrossFit affiliate in the world. And StandUpKids is a non-profit dedicated to combating kids' sedentary lifestyles by bringing standing/moving desks to low-income public schools. To date, StandUpKids has converted 95,000 kids from sitting to standing. Earlier in their careers, Kelly and Juliet also co-founded a kayaking camp for children with HIV called Liquid. In his athletic career, Kelly paddled whitewater slalom canoe on the US Canoe and Kayak Teams. He led the Men's Whitewater Rafting Team to two national titles and competed in two World Championships. In his free time, "KStar" likes to spend time with his wife, Juliet, and two daughters, Georgia and Caroline. He also loves to mountain bike, paddle, and sauna. Joe Gigantino Jr. has been a leading entrepreneur since his arrival in the Silicon Valley. After playing Division 1 football at Fresno State, Joe received a BS degree in Business Marketing. Joe started his first business soon after graduation. Results Marketing was formed to help athletic facilities incorporate EFT transactions into their billing procedures. In 1992, at the age of 25, he merged his business with a small athletic club in San Jose, California. Within 30 months, Joe grew the combined business to the 6th fastest growing private company in the Silicon Valley, as stated by the San Jose Business Journal. He was selected by the same publication as one of the top 30 executives under the age of 30 in the Valley. In that same year, Joe was chosen as 1 of 50 from a pool of 1,000 applicants, and the youngest to participate in the MIT "Birthing of Giants" Program. Barrett has a background in the military in a tiny special forces group called CCT. Originally enlisting with a dental assistant job, he quickly realized that his personality type was closer to the special forces people he had met while he was in. As soon as he could, he signed up for the qualification and process and did whatever he had to do to make it in this elite group. Once the military was over for him, that personality type and drive eventually propelled him into a successful business in the clothing industry with a brand called "NFQ." Not having much experience in business and partnering up with a friend with nothing more than verbal agreements eventually led him into a few problems as the business grew... A lot happens in a small Window of time and Barret shares his experience throughout the entire ordeal. As well as sharing what he wish he would have done differently along the way. Dr. Jimmy Bagley is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology, and Director of the Muscle Physiology Lab, Co-Director of the Exercise Physiology Lab, and Research Director of the Strength and Conditioning Lab at SF State. Dr. Bagley teaches exercise physiology courses and his research interests include: muscle physiology, advanced cellular imaging techniques, and sport performance enhancement. Dr. Bagley earned a PhD in Human Bioenergetics from the Human Performance Lab at Ball State University, MS in Kinesiology from Cal State University, Fullerton (CSUF), and BS in Kinesiology from Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo). Additionally, he spent one year as a Visiting Scholar in the Biochemistry & Molecular Exercise Physiology Laboratory at CSUF prior to joining the faculty at SFSU.
