As much as Joe loves working from home and being part of his famille's life, some things had to change in order to maximize productivity and focus. Ep 116Domestic Violence and Abuse with Mickie Zada

Mickie Zada chose to stay in a damaging relationship for 34 years because she thought it was her Calling. She believed it was her responsibility to keep her husband between the lines. While living in abuse, for decades she didn't recognize herself as an abused spouse. She was not threatened with weapons, was not hospitalized, never called law enforcement and did not file a restraining order against her husband. She was the strong one, the grounded one, the dedicated wife. She was in love. When she left, she wondered (like nearly every abuse survivor) whether she was really abused. So many years were invested in protecting her abuser that she felt guilty defending herself by leaving. Are you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence? Ep 111Parenting Peacefully When Triggered (Monthly Special Episode)

This is our monthly special episode where I co-host the show with another colleague. We have 3 segments Examples from Our Homes What's Up with You? Answering listener parenting questions Favorite Finds In the first segment, I tell a story about a delayed Christmas gift I had ordered for my daughter. How she reacted triggered past hurts in me and I was stuck. It is hard to parent peacefully and respond respectfully when our wounds get triggered. Parenting is an emotional job. This experience has not only enabled me to face my own unresolved issues but also it served as a catalyst for me to open up and share a painful story from my past. We often feel like as parents we need to hide our stories, our past. When we share parts of us with our children we invite them into our lives and it gives them a different perspective. After I shared my story, my daughter was touched and the connection between us just got deeper. Have you ever shared parts of you with your child? How did it go? How did you child respond? What did you feel? Laura shares a story related to their recent trip to Disney. Key takeaways from her story are: let's allow children to go through their own experiences connect to your child's inner experience and do not invalidate their fears appreciate who your child is and don't try to change her For FULL show notes where you can see the picture of the rain boots, read about Laura, get the links and resources we have mentioned and more, CLICK HERE. Ep 110Growing Up with an Autistic Sister

It was the 1950's, The Netherlands and people didn't know much about Autism. Born 18 months earlier than her, Carl's sister was severely autistic. She never spoke a word. For the first 3 years of her life she cried a lot. It was very difficult for her parents in many ways. Sometimes they couldn't even to find love for her. Carla's parents wanted her to be "normal' and that meant not showing emotions, not getting angry, meeting their high expectations, being the best and not wanting much. They also criticised her a lot. From an early age Carla was told that her sister was "unhappy child". Highlights: -a beautiful memory that made me tear up -how our past shapes who we become -why love is not enough to be a good parent -how parental trauma can block the flow of love for their children -she was not allowed to be angry or complain -how she felt guilty for being "normal" -why she chose NVC FOR FULL SHOW NOTES click here.

Ep 107Authentic Parenting | Year in Review

This is the final episode of the 2017. I don't know about you but I feel like the time is really flying by. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was recording the final episode of the 2016, which is by the way the least downloaded episode of the podcast:) In preparation for this episode I went back and listened to it. It's a really good one. In it I compiled all of my guests wisdom, their answers to "If you had to go back in time, knowing what you know about motherhood/fatherhood, what would you say to yourself as a new mom/dad?"question. I'm sitting today in December and recording this message I feel like I am always behind 1 or 2 months behind of the calendar year. Okay, looking back What did the 2017 bring for me and how it was for the podcast? Growth I had many amazing guests. The podcast has grown. I have grown. The number of listeners have grown. And growth is a good thing. I have changed the cover art for the podcast and I can't be happier. In fact, I have a mug with the logo right now on my table with my tea. Makes me happy everytime I look at it. I have started working with my sound engineer, the editor who puts this show together and provides an amazing listening experience for you. Great sound is everything. This year, I have connected with my listeners got to know you better. We reached a big milestone in the podcasting world-100 episodes. I have grown in many ways too. This podcast enriches my life in a very impactful way. So thank you for being part of this wonderful community. What I have learned: Vulnerability connects people. Every human being deep inside wants to be feel loved, connected and when they open up and share vulnerability beautiful things happen. What I have learned about myself. I have learned that I have a genuine interest in people and when you show genuine interest in a person they show up, they share more openly, vulnerably and authentically. I learned that I ask good questions. I listen and I have a genuine interest in any human being. I learned to let go of perfection and accept what is. People ask me if I have a favorite episode. That's a tough one because they are all special and meaningful. But if i had to choose it would be the 100th episode. After every episode, I always feel like,"That was the best one". What are your favorite episodes? Let's take a look at the stats. Top 15 most downloaded Episodes So, do you want to know the top 15 most downloaded episodes are? Please go back and listen to those and don't forget to pay attention to the episodes that didn't make the top 15 list. I will share a highlight or two about each episode Plus, if you are a regular listener then you probably already listened to them, if you are a new listener check them out, I guess there is a reason they are ranking high in downloads:) The Father's day show. I do usually take things away from every episode but there are two shows that truly made a huge difference in my life. I would also say that please don't judge the episode by its title. Sometimes, most often it's hard to summarize the entire content of the interview in a few word title that is catchy, and SEO friendly:) There is so much goodness in each episode. I usually pick one aspect of the conversation and base my title on that. So this is why browsing the collections is so helpful. Join the community. Share your takeaways, ask questions, connect with other listeners, offer feedback, suggest a guest…Besides, I have created that group for one main reason. To provide support to moms and dads like you. I strongly believe that social and emotional support is vital for parents. I am a parent too! Ep 105Why You Should Slow Down

Are you caught up in the frenzy of day to day modern life? Are you busy, rushed, hurried and lacking time? How much time do you spend with your kids? How much time do your children spend away from you? As the year 2017 is coming to an end, I invite you to rethink your priorities. This is a good time to pause and set new intentions for the coming year. How do you want to spend your days? Where does your attention go? We move through scenes like ghosts, without fully experiencing the moments and the events. We are rushing from place to place, constantly doing something... Children are overbooked and over scheduled. But the truth of the matter is we need to rethink our priorities, we need to change our lifestyle, we need to slow down, we need to have ample time for for children to play freely. We need to provide time and space for our children to decompress, experience downtime and just be bored. Bored is the gateway to creativity. Not only our children do not have time and space to be bored but they not have time for daydreaming, processing what has happened to them during the day. Highlights: -how to recognize our relational patterns and triggers -we heal together -fighting with your partner is not a bad thing -the importance of repair after a fight -how to help children in transitions times -why we need to slow down -why is play so vital -what is slipping away from our lives -the importance of doing nothing, having downtie -boredom is not a bad thing Also, my wonderful guest walks us through a simple sensory awareness exercise. Ep 98Healing From Trauma with Christina Louise

E

My guest for this episode is Christina Louise, The Peaceful Parenting Mentor and World's #1 Freedom Coach offers a unique understanding of what you and your child are going through right now, because she WAS a challenging child and troubled teen herself! Because her parents didn't understand how to manage their emotions without going into fight or flight mode, she wound up experiencing years of abuse and neglect, which resulted in self-loathing, anxiety, trouble with the law, and other serious issues including severe depression. But as an adult, she knew she had a CHOICE: She could blame her upbringing and continue suffering or she could take responsibility for ending the cycle of trauma and abuse. She embarked on an enlightening road of personal and family transformation which taught me THE KEY to making life so much easier. She condensed what took her two decades (and hundreds of thousands of dollars) to learn into Programs and Retreats that are designed to show you how to experience Peace, Purpose, and Prosperity in all areas of your life. Ep 93Are We Over-Parenting in America?

I recently visited Armenia with my family for the first after 12 years. Even though I was born there and know pretty much what the culture is but to my surprise things had changed. This visit was special because I was visiting as a parent and parent educator and I was very intentional to observe how the Armenian people do the parenting business. Also, I met my friends there for the first time as parents with families. For this episode I invited my dear friend Lusine to join me via Skype to discuss parenting differences and similarities between the Armenia and America. Lusine is a mother of an almost 10 years old boy. Lusine has noted that the issues are the same regardless of the geographical location. What surprised me about Lusine and most parents I talked to there, is that they have never even read a single parenting book. And this is why I pose a question: are we over-parenting here in America? Let's dig in. :) Some things we discuss: -dreaded screen time and setting limits, the Armenian way vs The American (my way more specifically, don't laugh at me too much) -reasons why they are more relaxed around technology and media -how does she get her kid to do things without yelling, nagging, punishing -do kids have more freedom there? -why kids are so easy going there and don't give a hard time to their parents at least from my observations -some secrets to setting limits -how to teach kids to be respectful toward elderly -why they have very few power struggles -and so much more She doesn't follow any particular parenting style or philosophy. She says it comes to her naturally. About my guest who also happens to be my dear friend:) Lusine Taslakyan has twenty years of experience in water and environmental sector in Armenia and the Southern Caucasus. She has a Masters Degree in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford, UK, MSc in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho, USA and MSc in Biology and Ecology from the Armenian State Pedagogical University. Ms. Taslakyan is specialized in natural resources management, policy development, river basin planning, trans-boundary cooperation, environmental impact assessment, climate change, stakeholder relations and gender mainstreaming issues. She has long term experience in promoting public awareness and participation in environmental decision making. Resources and Links Do you need an ongoing parenting support for free?
