<p>In this podcast from his series looking at some of what's new and notable in iOS 15, Thomas Domville shows us how to configure precipitation alerts in the iOS Weather app.</p><p>In Apple's heavily revamped Weather app, you can now choose to receive notifications that will alert you when it's going to rain, snow, or hail in the next hour in your current location, or other locations that you've added to the app.</p><p>Note that according to <a href="https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-15/features/">Apple's iOS 15 preview page,</a>next-hour precipitation notifications are currently only available in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.</p>

<p>In this podcast from his series looking at some of what's new and notable in iOS 15, Thomas Domville introduces us toHide My Email.</p><p>Available to iCloud+ subscribers, Hide My Email builds on the idea of Sign in With Apple by providing you with unique, random email addresses that forward to your personal inbox and can be deleted at any time. This can be particularly useful if you need to give a company an email address, but are concerned that they will share the address with others who will use it for advertising purposes.</p>

<p>In this podcast from his series looking at some of what's new and notable in iOS 15, Thomas Domville introduces us to iCloud Private Relay.</p><p>iCloud Private Relay ensures the Safari traffic leaving your device is encrypted - so no one can intercept and read it - and it puts all your requests through two separate internet relays. The result is that no one, including Apple, can see who you are or what sites you are visiting.</p>

<p>In this podcast from his series looking at some of what's new and notable in iOS 15, Thomas Domville Shows us how you can now configure a number of accessibility settings on a per-app basis.</p><p>This feature allows you to enable or disable certain accessibility settings for a specific app or set of apps, including the Home screen. All you need to do is choose an app, toggle on the accessibility settings you want, and you'll then get options like larger text, reduced transparency, and smart invert in only the places you want them.</p>

<p>In this episode, Thomas Domville Shows us VoiceOver's Quick Settings feature on iOS and iPadOS.</p><p>Activated with a 2-finger quadruple tap, the Quick Settings panel offers fast and easy access to a number of VoiceOver's settings and options, allowing you to streamline the VoiceOver rotor. You can change what's included in this panel, and the order settings are presented in, in Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Quick Settings.</p>

<p>In this podcast from his series looking at some of what's new and notable in iOS 15, Thomas Domville Shows us Background Sounds.</p><p>Apple says that “everyday sounds can be distracting, discomforting, or overwhelming,” so in support of neurodiversity it is introducing new background sounds in iOS 15.</p><p>According to <a href="https://www.applevis.com/blog/apple-previews-new-accessibility-features-coming-year-including-expanded-image-recognition">Apple</a> this is how background sounds will help minimize distractions and help users focus, stay calm, or rest:</p><blockquote><p>Balanced, bright, or dark noise, as well as ocean, rain, or stream sounds continuously play in the background to mask unwanted environmental or external noise, and the sounds mix into or duck under other audio and system sounds.</p></blockquote>

VoiceOver can also describe a person’s position along with other objects within images — so people can relive memories in detail, and with Markup, users can add their own image descriptions to personalize family photos.</p></blockquote>

With the power of the Apple Neural Engine, the Camera app can also quickly recognize and copy text in the moment, such as the Wi-Fi password displayed at a local coffee shop. With Visual Look Up, users can learn more about popular art and landmarks around the world, plants and flowers found in nature, breeds of pets, and even find books.</p></blockquote><p>Live Text is only available on devices which have an A12 Bionic chip or better. I'm going to record this podcast on using Braille displays with iOS devices. Now if you've been around AppleVis and the AppleVis Podcast for many years, you may recall that I already did this podcast. However, I did that podcast back in January of 2016. Now that we're five iOS releases later, and five years later in terms of the technology, of course, many things have changed, even some of the most basic level.</p><p>What are we covering in this podcast? That's always a good question to ask yourself before, and hopefully the person recording it gives you an idea. What we're going to be covering in this podcast is, first of all, general information about Braille displays and what connects and what doesn't. Then we'll talk about connecting both through Bluetooth and USB. We'll go through the Braille Display menu on iOS. We'll talk about navigation in terms of getting around your various home screens, activating apps, and so on and so forth. From there, we'll go into text editing very briefly. We'll talk about how to get help because we all need that once in a while, and setting up auto scroll.</p><p>The first topic, general information, well, pretty much any Braille display made within the last 10 years. I say pretty much because there may be one out there somewhere that I'm not aware of that doesn't support iOS. To my knowledge, all of the Braille displays on the market do support iOS and voice-over. What you will have to make sure is that you're running a compatible version of iOS.</p><p>For example, if you are running one of the new Humanware displays, they recommend that you run iOS 13.6 or later. The new Orbit 40, Orbit Reader 40, I should say, emulates a VarioUltra, which means the Orbit Reader 40 supports iOS devices, going back to, I want to say, 8.3, it may have been 8.4, or something like that. Anyway, whatever it is, it goes back many iOS versions. The focus fifth-generation supported iOS, I want to say, with maybe iOS nine. I don't remember exactly on that one.</p><p>Anyway, point being is, check with your user…</p>

<p>In this episode, Tyler demonstrates how to automatically deny App Tracking requests in iOS and iPadOS.</p><p>App Tracking Transparency (ATT) is a feature in iOS and iPadOS that aims to give users more control over which apps can track their activity across apps owned by other companies for targeted advertising purposes by requiring user permission to access the device's identifier for advertisers (IDFA). To automatically deny all tracking requests, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, and toggle the "Allow apps to request to track" switch off.</p><p>Note: This setting will not affect an app's ability to track your activity within that app or other apps owned by the same company. For information about how a particular app uses your data, consult the company's privacy policy or App Store nutrition label.</p>

<p>In this episode, Crayton shows us how to move files and folders in Finder using the keyboard.</p><p>To do this, navigate to and select the file or folder you want to move, and choose Edit > Copy (or press Command-C.) <p>Introduced with iOS 14.5 and iPadOs 14.5 was the ability to share up to 150 characters of song lyrics with friends, straight from the Now Playing screen in Apple Music. In this podcast, Thomas Domville shows us how it works.</p>

<p>Apple in iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 added a new option to help Siri learn to select your preferred audio apps for listening to music, podcasts, and audiobooks.</p><p>The first time you ask Siri to play music, a podcast, or an audiobook after installing these updates, you will be asked to select your preferred app from a list of those you have installed and which support this feature. Siri will remember your selection and will use that service whenever you ask it to play something. So, for example, if you select Spotify to play a song, the next time that you ask Siri to play a song you will not need to specify “on Spotify” to prevent iOS from defaulting to Apple Music. Note that Apple has clarified that this is not a "default" music service setting, and there is no toggle to select a service you want to continually use, but it is a feature where Siri will learn your preferences and adapt to them. Accordingly, Siri will occasionally re-ask for your preferred services to keep up to date.</p><p>In this podcast, Thomas Donville walks us through this process and explains how to have Siri change your preferred app at any time.</p>
