<p>In this episode, Tyler demonstrates what to do if an app on your Mac becomes unresponsive.</p><p>If VoiceOver announces that an app is "Not responding," the first thing to try is to Command-Tab away from it, wait for VoiceOver to announce that the app is ready, and then Command-Tab back to it. If that doesn’t work, Command-Tab away from the app and turn Voiceover off, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again. Finally, if all else fails, force quit the app by Command-Tabbing to it and pressing Command-Shift-Option-Escape. Alternatively, you can press Command-Option-Escape to open the force quit window and select the problem app from the table.</p><p>If you select "Finder" in the table, the "Force quit" button turns into a "relaunch" button that, when clicked, restarts Finder. Relaunching Finder may be useful if it has become unresponsive, or if you've issued a command in Terminal to alter Finder's behavior that will only take effect on its next launch.</p>

<p>Earlier this year Apple came under some criticism after a report by <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/jul/26/apple-contractors-regularly-hear-confidential-details-on-siri-recordings">the Guardian</a> on how Apple hired contractors to listen to a small percentage of anonymized ‌Siri‌ recordings to evaluate the responses with the purpose of improving accuracy and reliability.</p><p>In response, Apple promised that it would introduce options in a forthcoming update that would allow users to opt out of sharing their audio recordings.</p><p>Those options arrived with the releases of iOS 13.2, iPadOS 13.2, and macOS 10.15.1.</p><p>In this podcast, Tyler walks us through how to access and change these new options.</p>

<p>In this podcast, Thomas Domville introduces us to “silence unknown callers”, a new feature in iOS 13 that helps you block unwanted calls without having to block callers one by one.</p><p>With this feature enabled, unknown callers will automatically be sent to voicemail, meaning that robocalls, spam calls, and other unwanted distractions will no longer be able to bother you.</p>

<p>In this episode, Thomas Domville shows us how to use QuickPath, a native swipe keyboard new in iOS 13 that allows you to type by sliding your finger across the onscreen keyboard.</p><p>To use this feature, make sure you're using either Touch Typing or Direct Touch Typing as your typing mode, and rest your finger on a key. Then, after you hear a tone, slide it to the general location of your next intended key. For example, to type the word "Hello," rest your finger on the letter H, and when you hear the tone, slide it to the general location of the letter E, followed by the letters L and O. If the wrong word is predicted, press the Delete key, and it will be deleted.</p><p>To turn this feature off, go to Settings > General > Keyboard, and double-tap the "Slide to type" switch. Additionally, you can quickly turn this feature on and off by adding it to the VoiceOver rotor in Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Rotor > Rotor items.</p>

The Alert Schedule feature lets you schedule and customize a second set of alerts. For example, you can set the schedule to match your work hours and have different alert settings during the rest of the day. Custom alert sounds are available, including a Vibrate-Only option on the phone for glucose alerts other than the Urgent Low Alarm.</p><p>The Always Sound setting allows you to receive certain Dexcom CGM Alerts even if your phone sound is off, set to vibrate, or in Do Not Disturb mode. This will allow you to silence calls or texts but still receive audible CGM Alerts, including Low and High Glucose alert, Urgent Low Soon Alert, Urgent Low Alarm, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts. Please note that when your phone is set to Silent or Do Not Disturb, you will not receive any audible alerts for Signal Loss. Always Sound is on by default. A Home screen icon shows you if your Alerts will sound or not. For safety, three alerts cannot be silenced: Urgent Low Alarm, Transmitter Failure, and Sensor Failure.</p><p>In addition to the accurate performance provided by the Dexcom Sensor, you’ll receive other valuable features:</p><ul><li>Share your glucose data with up to ten followers in real time. This is episode number 67 coming hot on the heels of episode number 66 which was our round-table about WWDC keynote on Monday.</p><p>Today, myself, Dave Nason, and my colleague, Thomas Domville, also known as Anonymouse, are delighted to be joined by two people from Apple live from WWDC conference this week. We have the head of accessibility at Apple, Sarah Herrlinger, and we have one of the accessibility technicians called Dean Hudson.</p><p>Thomas, thanks for joining me. We're delighted to be getting the chance to interview these guys today.</p><p>Thomas Domville: Definitely! I am so excited to meet with these two. I know that we are going to learn a great deal of things today, and I hope our listeners will, too. It's going to be a lot of fun.</p><p>Dave Nason: Yeah, it was a big keynote, wasn't it? We talked about a lot on Monday. People can listen to that podcast for the full details of what we talked about in our immediate kind of aftermath, but there was a lot there.</p><p>Thomas Domville: Definitely! A lot to soak up, and even today I'm still soaking things up, and hearing things that we didn't really pick up on on the WWDC day itself.</p><p>As we're starting to get our hands on these betas, more and more things are starting to pop up. This makes this even more exciting of a podcast to listen to.</p><p>Dave Nason: I think we all know that iOS 12 was a performance update. I think whether you had accessibility needs or not, it wasn't a feature-rich release last year. This year, I think there's a bit more there in the accessibility world as well, and in general when it comes to features. I think we're going to have plenty of questions.</p><p>Thomas Domville: Definitely! I think that what I came away with from Monday was a lot of people were saying "Is that all?" "Is that it?" I was like oh, my gosh, are you kidding me? There was a lot there. I think for every 1 thing they mentioned, there were probably 20 things they didn't mention. There is so much under-the-hood. Like you said, this is a vast difference, a stark difference, between last year's iOS 12 to this year iOS 13.</p><p>That is the same for those with accessibility. There are quite a few small changes, and new things that we can expect which I'm very excited to talk about.</p><p>Dave Nason: Indeed!</p><p>Let's welcome our two guests!
