Boulet Brothers takeover Heavy Metal on October 27th issue #311To start, how did this Halloween takeover start and how long has it been in the works?Boulets! You’ve done a wild supervillain challenge on Dragula and now you’ve set your sights on Heavy Metal! What are your backgrounds with comics? Is this an after-lifelong love for you?Steve, how did you approach balancing out the creatives you chose telling these stories, many of whom are making their comics debut? (Alaska, Katya, Danhausen)There’s a pulpy scrappiness to these stories. Fans who like Heavy Metal for its graphic nature will dig these stories but, I must ask, was there anything you couldn’t do or show? It’s so fun to have you two playing the kind of Cain and Abel in this house of mystery. How was it getting to play Crypt-Keepers for this issue? Switching gears to an entirely different universe, Darkhold Alpha just dropped. How was it getting to dive into the horrific side of Marvel?Boulets! How did you develop the concept for the podcast? What is your podcast prep process like?Brad, you recently mentioned that the show might have to end if and when you cover Lois and Clark. Are they the one true pairing in all of comics? If not, who is?To flip that, is there any comics couple you wouldn’t cover?Do you find that your podcast colors the way you read anything else that’s not for the show, or is this kind of how you’ve always looked at these kinds of stories?Spinning out of that, do you find that you’re only reading for the show, or do you feel like these are the books you’d gravitate to anyway? What has been the most surprising couple to research and talk about? The ones with more wrinkles and layers than you expected? Now, you two have much more available than just the main feed, correct? You’re diving into ALL of Sandman now. How has that discovery/rediscovery been?Do you have a “white whale” creator or creative team you’d like to have on your show? You started your podcast in December 2018, if you could go back and give yourselves advice, would you and what would it be?You also offer Patreon special access, can you talk a little about that?Segment: Super Fight Lightning RoundDinah & OllieScott & JeanJean & WolverineAlec & AbbyReed & SueDick & Babs Peter & Mary JaneHarley & IvySUPER SECRET LIGHTNING ROUND:Do you have any comfort food series you turn to to brighten your week?If you could have one super power what would it be?Favorite mode of procrastination? When is your anniversary?Apple or Android?Marvel or DC?If a train is travelling from Chicago at 50 miles an hour, and a Logan is shink’ing at 100 miles per hour, launched from the moon via a Galactus fastball special, how quickly would you buy that comic?

I’d love to start first with the recently announced, Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s Body #1, can you tell us a little bit about this new series and how long has this been in the works?Okay, we’re admittedly conspiracy theory junkies. Is it safe to say you enjoy getting lost down those kinds of rabbit holes? What is the research process like for this series? With Regarding the Matter of Oswald, She Could Fly: Fight or Flight on the way in October, and two Marvel titles ongoing atm, it’s fair to say this is the most comics writing you’ve done at one time. I was curious now that you’re a year out or so from Dr. Doom, how does writing in the comics format compare to writing for television? At the same time, it feels like you’re just getting started, are there any bucket list titles you’d like to work on?There’s a certain cosmic entity that shows up in Iron Man #11 (Living Tribunal but don’t say to avoid spoilers), how rad was it to write such a huge character, and was he always in the cards to use in the story arc? With The United States of Captain America, what was the new Captain America creation process like? Did you have a hand in curating the creators who would make these Cap’s Steve Rogers meets on the road? US of Captain America has a very “road movie” vibe to the pacing and overall tone. What are some of your favorite road movies, and did you throw any on while cracking this story? The Blue Flame is incredibly impactful in how juxtaposes the cosmic superhero story and smaller real-world story. How did scripting of this series shake out and was it always these two concurrent stories going at once? With Blue Flame, did any series inform how you wrote the cosmic scenes, like Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers? The look of the cosmic scenes in this series are so memorable. What’s the collaboration process been like with Adam Gorham, Kurt Michael Russell, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhau?This series has an original soundtrack written by your friend Aaron Fischer (who one of the many Caps has been named after)! How did that come about?Substack has taken over the comics news airwaves, what are your thoughts on the platform? What comics are you reading right now?Off Topic Top Shelf: Baseball cards

You’ve had a big year with multiple titles at DC Comics, but if you could take a step back for a moment, take me to 2006, your first credited work for Outta Sync, a fockumentary where you played Beverly, Just Beverly (The Choreographer). Did Tim Sheridan from 2006 know he’d be on the AIPT Comics podcast in 2021 talking about writing some incredible DC Comics?Superman: Man of Tomorrow was a real blast. How did you get involved with DC animation, and how did you approach telling a new take on Superman’s origin story? You laid a lot of groundwork in Man of Tomorrow for a new DC animated universe. In addition to Supes’ regular supporting cast, it introduces Martian Manhunter and Lobo. Were these characters you wanted to include from the beginning, or did WB kind of present you with, “We want a Superman origin, and it needs these characters?”You’ve written Superman a few times before. And there’s been a good bit of chatter on the internet with people debating what defines Superman. What do you think is Superman’s defining trait?Shifting to Titans Academy: introducing Red X to continuity must be a huge honor for you, what was the conversation like with DC to get that character into the comics?Tim, loving Titans Academy, and in issue two there’s some great set pieces. One of which has Cyborg and Nightwing talking in front of a window into one of the classrooms where mayhem takes place yet Cyborg and Nightwing are calm and aren’t even bothered by it. When approaching a page like that, how did you come up with the idea, was it inspired by anything you’ve seen before? When writing a book about a superhero school, is there any daydreaming up storylines for an X-Men run? You’ve got Shazam on the way this summer, was it always planned as a four-issue series? One of the things that fascinates me about Titans Academy, and now Shazam, is that you’ve written these two properties before in Future State. How tricky is it to tell a NEW story that is kind of informed by FUTURE events that we’ve seen in stories you’ve PREVIOUSLY written? My brain just broke trying to put that sentence together! You’re working on Masters of the Universe: Revelation for Netflix and the new prequel comic. Two questions: 1, can we be you when you grow up? Is it an outline, a rough script, a treatment, an abstract painting they riff off of?As a writer for the big-two, soon to be publishing a book you’re spearheading in Infinite Frontier, how do you navigate ambition, approaching the size and scope, but also what you want to achieve personally? - i think he’s kinda covered this ok!It’s not evident if you’ve written or will write Dr. Manhattan, but I must know, is there any extra stress or anxiety around writing a character or exploring the consequences of a character that is so iconically part of one of the most famous comics in existence? It might be because folks are still figuring out Future State and aren’t quite ready for Infinite Frontier, but I swear there’s even more hype around Robin. What do you think makes Robin aka Damian Wayne such an alluring character for fans? Can you talk a little bit about Gleb Melnikov’s work on Robin, was there any specific page in the first issue that went above and beyond what you could have anticipated? The pandemic has affected the entire industry, I was curious if it helped or hindered the development of Infinite Frontier and Robin? Was the series originally being set for digital-only a pro or a con in your mind?Aferlift takes readers to many...realms of the afterlife. What previous arc or creator’s run is your favorite? Have you had a pitch in mind for the property for a while or did it all fall together when you got in touch with Valiant?Manowar has a storied history with various origins, backgrounds, reboots, etc. but it’s also been going long that it seems like reverence for the book and character’s history is important. How do you approach reconciling the two?How does working with Valiant differ from working with other publishers like Marvel? Do you notice your creative process change much? We’re going to leave this one a little open to interpretation, but what do you think is the one thing every X-O Manowar run must do?
