Do you have a particular horror subgenre that you’re drawn to?Shadowman #3 opens in Barcelona, have you been, and how important is it to get a specific location just right? The third issue also has a lot of variance with layout design, and honestly it really rips with the energy and multiple panel pages. What goes into making an 11 (or more!) panel page work?Samedi’s costume is rather detailed, and props to you it always looks slick in this book, how much are you kicking yourself going with such a detailed design?!Are there any horror movies you like to watch to get you in the headspace to draw Shadowman? What’s one moment you’ve seen in a script from Cullen where you’re like, “Damn, I can’t wait to figure out how this works on the page?”We talked to Cullen a little bit about this before, but the Nintendo 64 Shadowman game just got a re-release. Did you ever mess around with that back in the day? What comics are you reading right now?Off Topic Top Shelf: Jon Davis-Hunt - Xbox X Game Pass, Dungeons and Dragons game, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Starfield

It's been quite a year to say the least and while conventions and comic shops are opening back up, I’d love to ask, how has your relationship to comics and the creation of comics changed over the last year? With Brooklyn Gladiator, Moon Lake, and Fishkill under your belt, and knowing how you have been reading Heavy Metal since you were 9 or 10, what has it been like making comics for the publisher?Writing for a publisher like Heavy Metal, which always seems to have had a certain bite to them, do you ever feel like you need to go harder or edgier with the work? You’re also a screenwriter and director, of course. How does that experience translate into working on a comics script? You’ve worked with some incredible artists like Simon Bisley, Darick Robertson, and Ben Templesmith, what is your working relationship like with these artists? Was there a moment, a page or panel, from Fishkill that Templesmith simply blew you away with?Lawrence Blum is listed as the co-creator for Fishkill; what was that collaboration process like?A story like Fishkill blends crime, corruption, drug use, and the filth of the city all into one. Did you have any inspirations in life, film, or other comics that lead to the idea of the series?Obviously Fishkill himself is not someone we should aspire to be. There are a lot of unseemly characters and situations in the story; how do you get in the headspace to write someone like that? What comics are you reading right now?Off Topic Top Shelf: Dan Fogler - mixed martial arts, making movies, The Offer - Francis Ford Coppola

You’ve had a big year with multiple titles at DC Comics, but if you could take a step back for a moment, take me to 2006, your first credited work for Outta Sync, a fockumentary where you played Beverly, Just Beverly (The Choreographer). Did Tim Sheridan from 2006 know he’d be on the AIPT Comics podcast in 2021 talking about writing some incredible DC Comics?Superman: Man of Tomorrow was a real blast. How did you get involved with DC animation, and how did you approach telling a new take on Superman’s origin story? You laid a lot of groundwork in Man of Tomorrow for a new DC animated universe. In addition to Supes’ regular supporting cast, it introduces Martian Manhunter and Lobo. Were these characters you wanted to include from the beginning, or did WB kind of present you with, “We want a Superman origin, and it needs these characters?”You’ve written Superman a few times before. And there’s been a good bit of chatter on the internet with people debating what defines Superman. What do you think is Superman’s defining trait?Shifting to Titans Academy: introducing Red X to continuity must be a huge honor for you, what was the conversation like with DC to get that character into the comics?Tim, loving Titans Academy, and in issue two there’s some great set pieces. One of which has Cyborg and Nightwing talking in front of a window into one of the classrooms where mayhem takes place yet Cyborg and Nightwing are calm and aren’t even bothered by it. When approaching a page like that, how did you come up with the idea, was it inspired by anything you’ve seen before? When writing a book about a superhero school, is there any daydreaming up storylines for an X-Men run? You’ve got Shazam on the way this summer, was it always planned as a four-issue series? One of the things that fascinates me about Titans Academy, and now Shazam, is that you’ve written these two properties before in Future State. How tricky is it to tell a NEW story that is kind of informed by FUTURE events that we’ve seen in stories you’ve PREVIOUSLY written? My brain just broke trying to put that sentence together! You’re working on Masters of the Universe: Revelation for Netflix and the new prequel comic. Two questions: 1, can we be you when you grow up? And 2, how’d you get involved with Revelation and do you have a lot of nostalgia for MOTU?Off-Topic Top Shelf - Invincible, watching cooking shows on YouTube

Were you a fan of Magic the Gathering going into the project? What makes these two characters the right choice to push forward? There have been many cases where a big event or cliffhanger teases the “future events” at the big-two, but in many cases, some of those events don’t happen or fall off. Can you say with certainty what we see in Infinite Frontier will be used and explored down the line? What goes into writing an overarching structure for a comic like Infinite Frontier? Is it an outline, a rough script, a treatment, an abstract painting they riff off of?As a writer for the big-two, soon to be publishing a book you’re spearheading in Infinite Frontier, how do you navigate ambition, approaching the size and scope, but also what you want to achieve personally? - i think he’s kinda covered this ok!It’s not evident if you’ve written or will write Dr. Manhattan, but I must know, is there any extra stress or anxiety around writing a character or exploring the consequences of a character that is so iconically part of one of the most famous comics in existence? It might be because folks are still figuring out Future State and aren’t quite ready for Infinite Frontier, but I swear there’s even more hype around Robin. What do you think makes Robin aka Damian Wayne such an alluring character for fans? Can you talk a little bit about Gleb Melnikov’s work on Robin, was there any specific page in the first issue that went above and beyond what you could have anticipated? The pandemic has affected the entire industry, I was curious if it helped or hindered the development of Infinite Frontier and Robin? Issue #1 was out on March 25th.First and foremost, how are you holding up during the pandemic? Can you tell us a little bit about your history with X-O Manowar? What previous arc or creator’s run is your favorite? Have you had a pitch in mind for the property for a while or did it all fall together when you got in touch with Valiant?Manowar has a storied history with various origins, backgrounds, reboots, etc. but it’s also been going long that it seems like reverence for the book and character’s history is important. How do you approach reconciling the two?How does working with Valiant differ from working with other publishers like Marvel? Do you notice your creative process change much? We’re going to leave this one a little open to interpretation, but what do you think is the one thing every X-O Manowar run must do? The pandemic was unprecedented for a variety of reasons we won’t get into, but it also delayed your book. Did the delay affect X-O Manowar in any way or the process of development? Is it a little weird to have such a large gap between issue releases? You’ve done a great job with the banter between Aric and the suit, can you talk a little bit about how you make it so natural and alive?Having a look at issue #2, it appears we’re going a bit off the normal path for superheroes and how they resolve issues. Can you talk a little bit about how your approach to X-0 Manowar is different than the usual solo-superhero?Going off the X-O Manowar Wikipedia page, can we go through checklist style to see what powers we might see in your first arc?Assuming Bloodshot, one of the only movies this year eligible for an Academy Award, spins into a cinematic universe, who would you cast to play Manowar?Since you’re appearing on the @NY_Comic_Con's Metaverse Valiant Voice panel on Sunday, and this show goes up Sunday...is there anything you want to talk about that may be revealed as this show goes live?Off Topic Top Shelf - British Bakeoff, Breaking Bad rewatch

Way back on February 16th we ran an interview with you guys to talk the series as it launched. Now that it’s wrapped up, how do you feel about the final product? Was there any themes or takeaways you were hoping for readers to grasp onto?Do you keep up on comics reviews and reader feedback on social media? Were you generally happy with the way Alienated was received?Does the version of Alienated that readers got deviate much from the original pitch and scripts? If so, in what ways? The pandemic was unprecedented for a variety of reasons we won’t get into, but it also delayed your book. Did the delay affect Alienated in any way or the process of development? Were there any elements of Alienated you developed kind of subconsciously, things you can look back on and say “I’m glad we did that even if we didn’t plan it” or “Wow I didn’t realize I was writing that at the time”?Even though Chip went through horrible experiences, and he’s probably better off now, I already miss the character. If there was a second season for Alienated, where might you take Chip? What elements of this book do you think will carry into your future work? For me, there was dark horror to this work in part because I could see how people on social media and in real life act a certain way as characters do in this work. Do you see this work as a horror story? How do you approach making tragedy a central element of a story without making it overwhelming or unbearable for the reader? With Alienated over, can we expect another collaboration between you to soon? What’s next for you both in the comics realm?
