Have you gone on a trek like this yourself?The reality engine is so fascinating, how might you describe it to a reader curious about jumping on your run?I’ve read you’ve mapped out a 30-issue run ending Detective with issue #1089, are you still on target for that issue to be the finale?Dan Watters writes the backups in Detective, and he’s also your collaborator on The One Hand/The Six Fingers, do you collaborate as closely on the image comics series as much as the Detective Comics series?As an avid reader of comics, I simply love the idea of a crossover mystery that you’ve described as a mystery for the reader to solve. To start, tell us about yourself, what’s the “once upon a time” of how you got into comics?Oni press has a long history of incredible indie projects, Rick and Morty comics, and a lot more, but I feel like things turned when Lion Forge and Oni merged in 2019, and then Hunter you became president in 2022. Batman Off World #1 is out now, conratz on pulling off a compelling and different kind of Batman story!As far as pitches are concerned, was Off World your first pitch to DC?The story picks up with Batman only 1 year into his tenure as a superhero, what were the factors in setting the story at this point in time?I saw you had mentioned in a previous interview your love of Atari Force, is there any desire to ask DC to dust it off and give you a whirl writing a new series? There’s something so primal about how you write Batman, reminding me of Batman vs. Predator in some respects. What goes into writing Batman in a state of constantly improving on himself?There are a lot of different alien races in Batman Off-World, one of which is the Branx created by Marv Wolfman, George Pérez, did you have to dig deep into your research to pick which aliens to add to the story?How do you balance the grounded nature of batman with, aliens and spaceships?I saw some commotion on Reddit around Ione and Batman kissing on a cover, what kind of woman do you think can steal Batman’s heart?Switching gears to Action Comics #1061, I adore what you’re doing with Bizarro, and similar to Batman Off-World, you’re dealing with another alien world, this time Sorcerers' World. Follow up, who is a character that surprises you the most?We all know Leonardo Romero and Jordie Bellaire are gosh darn gifts to the comics community. Were there particular visual moments that impressed you or surprised you in the first issue or two that you’d like to shout out?Something that always impresses me is your dialogue, particularly with groups! I’ve come to learn after interviewing different writers the approach to writing good dialogue can be different. Is there a particular technique you use in writing dialogue, or feeling out how different characters will approach one another?We’re greatly enjoying Black Cloak at AIPT, which presents a fully realized new world. How do you approach worldbuilding? Is there a Black Cloak Bible?
