Now that everyone's back from the cruise, it's time for a reckoning. Peter tells Eve he wants a divorce because of the way she maneuvered him off the ship for days so that she could bone Tony, but she yells that actually Amanda did that. So Peter confronts Amanda about that, not knowing she's coming straight from seeing the film Lexi ruined and is truly in no mood. Tony refuses to shell out for a reshoot, so Amanda assesses her life and next steps and ends up, where else, at the hospital to tell Peter that while she did scheme to keep him from getting on the launch off the island, sleeping with him wasn't part of her plan. Peter decides to end his marriage, Amanda decides to close her agency, and if Eve and Kyle aren't happy about having all their suspicions confirmed, that's their problem -- or it is until Eve seems determined to make it everyone's problem. The shuttering of Amanda's agency also clears a path for Lexi to go after Tony's business herself, and by "Tony's business," we mean...well, you know what we mean. WELL, Sarah (McBride, to be clear) is still in Los Angeles. Immediately, she determines that the true Megan is meant to be with her dad, and is compliant with everything Ryan tells her to do, starting when he's still at her boarding school on the other side of the country, yelling at Terry about challenging her custody. Sarah ends up at the beach house where the uncle she never knew she had is imposing on his wife's employee; when Aunt Amanda comes home, she's not that interested in getting to know her new niece, but does notice that Sarah, Kyle, and Jane look a lot like a family. Lexi uses the trip back to L.A. to tell Ryan about all the scheming she and Michael have been doing to mess with Ryan and Megan, while Michael does the same for Megan back at the complex; Ryan and Megan are more determined than ever to forgive all their misunderstandings. Eve is still letting Amanda essentially pimp her out to Tony Marlin (non-sexually (so far)); Peter is suspicious about it, but still books that trip to Maui he and Eve had planned, and she's thrilled. The more we hear everyone discussing Bessie's pregnancy due date in the relatively near future, the more we know this TV baby is coming even sooner than that, and sure enough, he chooses a day when Bodie's out of town, the Potter phone isn't connected, and the truck is likely to get stuck in mud. The upshot is that Bessie and Joey end up at Dawson's -- initially just to use the phone, but when the community ambulance isn't available to take Bessie to the nearest hospital, everyone has to swallow their pride so that Grams the registered nurse can come from next door to be Bessie's emergency midwife. Jen also comes, to be supremely unhelpful. (What's going on with Dawson's parents' foundering marriage? Great question, but they aren't in the episode or mentioned by anyone who is!) In the sex crime plot, Pacey gets so excited about possibly taking Tamara out of town for a date that he discusses it with Dawson in the bathroom, both of them using her name; Pacey also does a terrible job checking whether they're alone, so a stoner whose weed they somehow don't smell hears the whole thing and immediately starts spreading it around. It's the winter holiday season on Melrose Place, and Santa's sleigh is about to get totaled. In some ways, things for Eve and Peter seem to be going great: he's giving her his credit card for a shopping spree, broadly hinting that he'd love her to move in, and so on. Buuuuuuuut, there's also the fact that she needs a shopping spree because she barely has any clothes; and is she maybe so focused on Peter that she might pass up a chance to make a deal with a record label? That's not all, but don't get too excited: whatever her terrible secret is, that reveal isn't happening yet. Also not happening: Jane's participation in the final wedding arrangements, because Alex is demanding that she come with him to his studio in Chicago to help him with his spring line. And if this puts them back together at the same place where they boned on the eve of her last wedding to Michael, so much the better for him! Michael tries to prove that he really does trust her by staying away, though if Peter wasn't around to keep distracting him, Michael would definitely be getting on a plane to intrude. Eve is about as eager to get things going with Peter as a person can be. And she knows he and Amanda were formerly married. And she recognizes that her instincts about relationships may not be the greatest. But no, she is not going to listen to any of Amanda's suggestions about how to handle things with him. Megan is trying to walk the narrow line between staying on Lexi's good side (and in her employ) while letting Amanda know Megan respects her; she's also, maybe, starting to thaw on Ryan. Lexi, meanwhile, is holing up in her condo trying to drink away her public humiliation. Michael and Jane's story is still mostly spinning its wheels. After being drawn to Eve's (a) medical level of neediness and (b) siren song, Peter asks her out. And Amanda is all about it, giving Eve tips on how to land him and even lending her an outfit. But then Eve is a little too aggressive in kissing him goodnight, and too eager to try to walk back her first impression, to the degree that both Peter and the audience is left wondering what her deal actually is. We're not going to find out from Amanda this week, since she's got her own problems: BizLine has nominated her for Woman Of The Year, and since Lexi simply cannot have that, she uses back channels to try to talk the editor out of giving it to Amanda and, when that doesn't work, starts a rumor that Amanda slept with him to clinch her victory. Since Jane never noticed that Michael was on the property when Alex was declaring his love in the last episode, she remains focused on her suspicion that what Michael's hiding is an affair with Megan, despite being proven wrong every time she confronts either of them about it. Michael decides to try to fix his relationship with Jane by eloping. And in Megan's actual love life, Ryan lets her know he's thought about it and he's okay with her past career as a sex worker, but she apparently remains totally indifferent to him. Having convinced himself that Megan is suicidal, Michael leaves town to follow her to the trailer park he's been given to understand she grew up in. Except whoops, it's a stately manor with horses all over the lawn, and parents who totally know what she's been doing since she left home; it was, according to Megan's mother Teresa (Shirley Jones!), the news of Megan's former profession that caused her father's debilitating stroke. Will Megan's disappointments in Los Angeles convince her to return to ranch life, or will Michael, the guy who just jilted her, lure her back to the complex? While he's out of town, Amanda sends Jane to try to land her old design school friend Alex as a client, and Jane decides to try to ignore their history for the chance at 25% of his fees if she's successful. At first he's too cold; then he's...way too warm. Speaking of being cold and then warm: Peter, rushed to the hospital for surgery on that gunshot wound. As doctors are yelling jargon over him in the ER, Peter decides he can't die without clearing his conscience, and tells Dr. Visconti how and why he kidnapped Amanda. Later, Lexi overhears that Dr. V knows something Amanda can never find out, and decides to use her powers of seduction to get it out of him. Also hanging around the hospital: Amanda, keeping Peter company to soothe her guilt for being the reason he's there. Kyle knows he can't tell her not to, and does a very poor job covering how much it bugs him, so it falls to his newly arrived brother to try to tell Amanda she should maybe stay away from Peter. Taylor having inconveniently gone into labor in the middle of a pounding rainstorm, the ambulance can't get to the beach house in time and Michael Jr. is delivered at home, to his two biological parents and the blonde lady so desperate for her chance at motherhood that she's ignoring every instinct a sensible person could possibly have and agreeing to raise him with the unreliable man with whom she first re-initiated contact last week. Taylor took her last moments as a childless person to INSIST that Michael and Jane agree to take custody of the baby...but she sure does seem crestfallen that Jane and Michael Jr. are getting along so well! Michael calls Jennifer to tell her she's an aunt, but she's still in the middle of getting dumped by a guy who doesn't deserve her, and when Jane finds out Michael was involved, she orders him to fix it. On the other side of the country, Sam shows up at the radio station that probably started immediately regretting having hired Jeff, and begs him for another chance. What's up with the kidnapping? Well, everyone is running around the hills getting very muddy (except Kyle, who is stymied by a washed-out road). Eventually, Peter gets Jack to hear sense, and Phase 2 of the plan -- getting Amanda to think well of him again, through acts of physical bravery -- gets underway. And we'd love to summarize what's going on with Coop, Lexi, and Megan, but we actually have no idea. There's a boat, and murder threats, and some very misplaced blame, and...yeah, your guess is as good as ours. After Peter failed to call off Mr. Beck's hired goons in the last episode, his plan starts to come into focus: she's kidnapped, and Peter's going to be the hero who saves her, in the process winning her back. And it actually...seems to work? Kyle has to humble himself by asking Peter for ransom money, for starters, though Peter is too worried about what the guys might do to relish it very much. The only problem seems to be that Amanda has more ingenuity and a stronger survival drive than Beck's henchmen anticipated. Taylor lets Jane know that she wasn't just idly talking at the end of the last episode: she really does not want to raise the baby she's carrying, and really thinks Michael and Jane should do it instead. Though Jane still isn't sure she and Michael are going to reunite as a couple, she's in (?), but will he be? And will he have time to hear a pitch when he's so busy trying to split up Jennifer and Billy? Mind you, they don't really need the help what with Sam around, so focused on their misery that she can't see Jeff directly in front of her, extremely sick of her crap. Mr. Beck from the last episode is about to go out of town, but first he makes sure Peter knows he's already started making arrangements for a deal the two of them discussed offscreen. It seems to involve extremely conspicuous hired goons posting up at the jazz club being obvious, and given the look of them, Peter's regrets start up well before we have any idea what the scheme even is. Speaking of schemes involving people who lived at the condo in the marina: Coop is having a bad time with Lexi, but the more he rebuffs her advances, the more determined she seems to get him to cave. Trying to prove to Lexi how confident she is in her relationship with Coop, Megan accidentally reveals how horny she is for the $5 million Coop will collect at the end of their marital year, which really undercuts his bargaining position with Lexi. Michael, a practiced liar, seems to think not only that he can keep Jane and Taylor from finding out about each other, but that he can do so while Jane is living with him. He...is mistaken, but Jane is more determined to make things work with him than we ever would have guessed during their marriage. Billy having been offered the Italy job offscreen since the last episode, he and Jennifer are busily preparing to leave L.A. and start their exciting new life overseas. But since Sam isn't happy in her own relationship and wants everyone to be as miserable as she is, she embroils Jeff in a caper to convince Billy that Alison still loves him, using the most advanced technology 1998 has to offer. Peter's more committed than ever to his scheme to get Amanda back, even though Dr. Visconti does not agree with him that a recurring sex dream -- in which she starts by resisting Peter's advances only to relent almost immediately -- is prophetic. Elsewhere: you're never going to believe this, but Coop and Lexi's sham marriage is a problem from DAY 1. The first problem: Coop and Megan can't be cool about it at all. The second: neither Lexi nor Peter seems to remember he was the one who told her this one weird trick for getting $10 million out of her father's estate. Michael seems to think Megan's official singleton status means he should try to get back together with her; when she shuts him down decisively, he has second thoughts about going back to Chicago for his 10th (lol) college reunion. His classmate Jane is excited to see him too, but dashes his hopes of reuniting with her in a more intimate way with some big news. At the agency, Billy and Sam deliver a great (lolol) campaign for an Italian swimsuit line -- so good, in fact, that the client, Giorgio, is trying to hire basically anyone who ever touched it. Amanda turned him down flat, but Billy is interested in hearing more (though Jennifer stresses out when his excitement about moving overseas doesn't seem to include her). And when Sam gets jealous of Billy's opportunity, she makes Amanda agree to push her for it instead -- which Amanda's more than happy to do, given which of the two of them delivers more value to Amanda personally. (Remember: Sam's having saved her FROM DEATH is "old news" -- which, fair enough; Amanda's already cheated death again.) The only problem with Sam's efforts is that she didn't think to tell Jeff about any of this, and he's not too thrilled to find out by chance. Can this relationship be saved? Again?
