Episode 9 - The Act of Killing (1:20:58)

E

In what will definitely not be considered a pro-tourism film for the country of Indonesia, we discuss the horrors on display in the film, the Act of Killing. The documentary follows a few of the executioners from the Indonesian genocide, where more than a million people were slaughtered, as they recreate their crimes to make a film of their own celebrating their actions some 45 years later. The true horror here is the mindset that these killers have maintained for half a lifetime and only through reliving the experience do they even begin to manifest humanity are repentance for their actions. We bring on special guest, Hinton Bowers who will be contributing as a writer for this site to talk about this movie, which was his suggestion for this show. Look for articles from Hinton here in the coming weeks. Like, Share, Rate, Subscribe, Review, ALL THE THINGS! Episode 8 - The Wolverine (53:47)

E

In a blatant attempt to ride the coattails of the new Logan movie, we bring on comic book creator, Jamie Sherman to discuss Wolverine and the work that he does in his own project, The Voluntaryist. We meander through a history of both characters and talk some self-defense scenarios. It's a good conversation that we hope you enjoy. Episode 7 - President's Day Special - Lincoln (1:14:48)

E

We take the President's Day holiday as an opportunity to examine America's favorite president as depicted by Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. Let's just say that a Rothbardian Anarcho-Capitalist perspective is not kind to old "honest" Abe. We have a special guest, Actual Anarchy contributor, Rex Gazer. Look for articles from him on the site soon; and once he launches his own, we will push it vigorously. From the film, we see our hero avoiding peace by delay; thus prolonging the war. Visiting the wounded (A saint!). They depict Lincoln as a deity. I like how they painted the guy who called out Lincoln for jailing journalists, suspending habeus corpus and acting like a dictator as a smug, virulent racist. Thus, his arguments are automatically invalid. Later in the movie, Lincoln slapped his son. That's assault brother. Here are a few articles to review: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=70018 https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-by-era/american-civil-war/resources/proclamation-suspension-habeas-corpus-1862 Thank you for listening. Episode 6 - Pump Up the Volume (1:20:38)

E

The movie that may have started it all! We discuss the 1990 Christian Slater flick Pump Up the Volume that features him as shy high school teenager by date, but a pirate-radio, shock-jock host from his parents' basement by night. He gets a local following by interacting with his audience, but runs afoul of the authorities; both local and federal. It's a move with a strong anti-authoritarian streak that really holds up even today, especially now that almost anybody can now have their own show (such as this one!) via the power of the internet and podcasting. Speaking of podcasting, our excellent guest, Nathan Fraser has a show and offers services to help you launch your own podcast or start your own business. You can find more information about him here: The Nathan Fraser Show - http://nathanfrasershow.com/ Free Market Squad - http://freemarketsquad.com/ Podcast Blastoff - http://podcastblastoff.com/ For more context around the Murray clip we played, here is the full lecture: https://youtu.be/0WNMiOjt49A?list=PLFH6ehrmBDOf_dQ2Hik_oJ7IynAsXN27X Thank you for listening. Episode 5 - Valentine's Day Special - Her (1:57:24)

E

Happy Valentine's Day! We bring back our first love to talk about the Spike Jonze mind-bender HER starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson. What is love? A man going through a divorce turns inward to lonliness until he begins using a sentient Artifically Intelligent Operating System. That covers about a third of what we discuss in this episode, you'll have to tune in to find out the rest of our discussion. Episode 4 – Dallas Buyers Club (1:38:14)

E

We bring on Doc Anarchy to discuss one of the most libertarian films in recent memory, the Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey as Ron Woodroof - a rodeo cowboy who contracts HIV in the early days of the spread of AIDS. There is a lot to unpack in this movie and we found ourselves cheering for Ron as he battled the government that was preventing him from helping himself and helping others by establishing a market for drugs and remedies of their own choosing. Episode 3 - Captain Fantastic, Part 2 (2:26:48)

E

Part 2 of 2 where we discuss the topic-rich, yet wildly contradictory movie, Captain Fantastic. We do actually finish discussing this movie during this episode, but it's nearly two hours. So, we basically talk about this movie for longer than the movie actually is, but no bother. There is so much meat to discuss here. Please do enjoy! For show notes and more, visit www.ActualAnarchy.com Presented by: Read Rothbard is comprised of a small group of voluntaryists who are fans of Murray N. Rothbard. We curate content on the www.ReadRothbard.com site including books, lectures, articles, speeches, and we make a weekly podcast based on his free-market approach to economics. Our focus is on education and how advancement in technology improves the living standards of the average person. The Read Rothbard Podcast is all about Maximum Freedom. We look at movies and current events from a Rothbardian Anarchist perspective. If it's voluntary, we're cool with it. If it's not, then it violated the Non-Aggression Principle and Property Rights - the core tenants of Libertarian Theory - and hence - human freedom. Episode 2 - Captain Fantastic, Part 1 (1:03:53)

E

Part 1 of 2 where we discuss the topic-rich, yet wildly contradictory movie, Captain Fantastic. We change up the process slightly, where rather than give a synopsis and then discuss the movie - we opt to synopse-and-discuss in real-time. Hence, in the first episode, we only get threw the first few scenes of the movie, leaving us for a marathon episode 2 to cover the majority of the film. Enjoy! Episode 1 - The Inaugural Actual Anarchy Podcast (43:34)

E

Hey, we're back! Allow ourselves to...introduce....ourselves... Robert and Daniel here from the Read Rothbard Podcast which will be transitioning to audiobooks of Murray Rothbard books and articles going foward. So let us be the first to welcome you to the inaugural episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast (New name, same game). As I just said, this is the inaugural Actual Anarchy Podcast launching, fittingly, on inauguration day of new President, Donald J. Trump. Old boss, same as the new boss? In some ways, probably; though he was the change candidate. The F-you to the status quo. But, is the status quo the right thing? Most people aren't happy, no matter who wins. Is there a better way? Yes, Virginia, there is. Actual Anarchy. Voluntaryism. We introduce ourselves and some of the tenants of the philosophy in this episode. Future episodes will focus on actual instances of anarchy in popular film and news events. Get strapped in people; it's going to challenge what you think you know...and hopefully get you to think. Look for a new episode from us each week...until our demands our met! Enjoy! Check out the BRAND NEW www.ActualAnarchy.com website.
