AMSE 'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the Night Before Christmas - The AMSE Version by Audra Edwards 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Slack Not a message was stirring, not even a business fact; The stockings were hung on the website with care, In hopes that Moni Jefferson soon would be there; The entrepreneurs were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of scalability danced in their heads; And the hubby in his lounge pants, and I in my Mrs. Claus cap, Had just settled our working brains for a long winter's nap, When out on the Remo there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my rolly chair to see what was the matter. Away to the open window I flew like a flash, Tore open the chat function and hoped it wouldn't crash. The filter on the video of the pixelated snow, Gave the illusion of a Christmas party room to participants below, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a miniature keyboard and seven teammates, dear, With a beautiful leader so lively and quick, I knew in a moment she must be Monique. More rapid than eagles her team members came, And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Michelle! now, Kathleen! now Amira and Audra! On, Caroline! on, Team! on, Anna and Selena! To the top of the website! to the top of the socials! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky; So up to the channel the AMSE team flew With the community full of networking opportunities, and Moni too— And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the thread The brainstorming and planning from each entrepreneur's head. As I minimized my window, and started to shut my system down, To the AMSE Bash Moni did come with a bound. She was dressed in festive fun, from her head to her feet, And her clothes were so jubilant, the Grinch's mood she would beat; A bundle of resources she had flung on her back, And she looked like a peddler just opening her pack. Her eyes—how they twinkled! Her messy bun, how merry! Her cheeks were like roses, her lipstick the color of a cherry! Her ears were festooned with the shiniest hoops, And her Air Force Spouse pride was evident to the troops; The end of a pen she held tight in her teeth, And the ideas, they encircled her head like a wreath; She had a thoughtful face and an attitude of Hustle! That drove her to help other milspouse business owners thrive with mind, willpower, and muscle. She was confident and positive, a right jolly founding elf, And I smiled back when I saw her, in spite of myself; A wink of her eye and a twist of her head Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; She spoke all the words, and went straight to her work, And filled all the virtual stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying her finger aside of her nose, And giving a nod, away from the website she rose; She sprang to her keyboard, to her team gave a whistle, And away their fingers flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard her exclaim, ere she moved out of the camera's sight— "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Leadership and Building Your Team

Welcome listeners! In this episode, Moni shares what her role as a leader has been like for her over the past few years as the CEO of the AMSE Agency. Part of being a CEO and building a team is hiring others. And supporting military spouse entrepreneurs is very important to her. However, liking someone as a person does not mean they are qualified to do the job you need effectively. And sometimes, a leader has to admit they were wrong about who they hired. This also means you'll have to know when it's time to let them go. As a leader, creating an SOP - Systems Operating Procedures for each role in your company is essential. Have your processes written out, screenshots, and videos to review every aspect of the job. Take the time to know your team and when you need to, be ready to move a team member into another role if you see the individual could thrive there based on their many skills. Don't be afraid to ask to see a portfolio of their work during the hiring process. If you're new to Owning Up, subscribe to know when a new episode drops. Hello listeners! I'm Caroline Schafer, the Podcast Producer for the AMSE Agency. As we look to the horizon for the first day of fall, we see the leaves begin to change. In some ways, each color represents a scent that the fall season gently offers us. Red is like a crisp candy apple. Brown is the caramel latte mixed with orange pumpkin. PCS Fireside Chat with Seasoned Military Spouse Entrepreneurs

Welcome to the PCS Special Sunday Series with Moni Jefferson We are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Moni chatted with a few other military spouse entrepreneurs who have experienced PCSing in their business. They share tips on what you need to consider before PCSing your business. Tip 1: Decide if you want to dissolve your business in the current state or start-up in the state, you will be moving to. Do your research and decide what works best for you. Some become a foreign entity, especially if you will be moving a lot or moving overseas for a time. Tip 2: If you have a product-based business, consider having someone else manage it while you move. And, it's important to know the weight of your tools and equipment in case you move it with you. Tip 3: Make sure you have a business bank account in your business name. And if you have multiple businesses, each one will need its own account. Tip 4: Let your clients and team members know you'll be moving. Don't let fear hold you back from sharing that information. Tip 5: Your priorities will shift during this time, so don't be afraid to say no to things. Tip 6: Take time to take care of yourself. We take care of everything and everyone, but we must take care of ourselves. We can't pour from an empty cup, so fill yourself first. It's not a weakness to ask for help. Thanks to Sara Copp, Courtney Boyer, Marla Bautista, and Joanie Zipperer for joining Moni and sharing their journey with us. Part 5: PCS Your Business Without Falling Apart

Welcome to the PCS Special Sunday Series with Moni Jefferson We are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Tips from this episode: Moni reiterates the importance of building and using a system for your business and your family during this time. Use the AMSE PCS Trello Board to help you. Say no to events from here to the end of the year. Just because you're moving doesn't mean that's the only time you take off. Think ahead. Delegate to your team throughout the year. Don't just plan for right now. Plan ahead. Take what's in your mind and write it in the systems. That way, your team sees it. This creates accountability for yourself and your team and helps them feel connected. Adjust your office hours to work around yourself and your personal pcs schedule. Give yourself a mantra - Everything's going to be okay! Move the needle forward on one task and deadline at a time. Remember to schedule your family time, too. And allow yourself the opportunity to be a part of the moments as they are happening during this time of the year. Create core memories by living and embracing each moment. Find the "wows" in your day, even when life throws things at you. Use the MyPCS App to make a checklist for your business. Remember - you are amazing! Something to remember - PCSing doesn't have to be complicated. And, you are allowed to pivot and move things that aren't needing immediate attention during this time. Serve your audience/clients that best represent your values and mission. Have some tips you want to share about PSCing your business? Email them to [email protected]. Don't Be Afraid To Pivot with guest Karen Hetz

Welcome back, listeners! It's Season 4 of Owning Up! First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Now, let's jump right in! This season, Moni wanted to bring on guests who are influencers in our community. They are dreamers, makers, doers, believers, bold and bravely creating the career of their dreams. This podcast is here to support military spouse business owners. Moni talks with Karen Hetz, Chief Happiness Officer and founder of Kids' Cake Boxes. She created Kids' Cake Boxes during a time of need - the pandemic in 2020. During a virtual birthday party, her 6-year-old child asked her if they would also get cake. And that's when the idea was born. Karen designed personal size cake baking kits. The idea is that the host of the celebration can send a kit to each party member, and they can all enjoy their cakes together virtually. Although we don't always have virtual parties now, Karen found a way to pivot with a brand overhaul and new marketing strategies. It's the perfect size cake to bake memories with your child. Kids' Cake Boxes allow you quality time with your child in the heart of the home - the kitchen. The kitchen is where loving memories are made and enables you to embrace this quality screen-free time. You can bake memories that will last a lifetime. Here are some other things you'll hear in this episode: You have moments in your journey where you can look back retrospectively. It's essential to look at those and learn those important lessons. But keep moving forward. The AMSE Cohort helped Karen on her business journey. As a Registered Dietician, Karen loves being in the kitchen and working with food. And she made sure to create gluten-free options as well as gluten options. When vaccines started rolling out, she realized she had to pivot. Kids' Cake Boxes don't just have to be during a pandemic because, as military families, we move a lot. So this provides a way to celebrate life moments together even when you can't be together. This is time together that you will be so glad you had. Meaningful conversations happen while coming together during these moments. Allow yourself grace when it comes to pivoting and rebranding. Embrace the change and move forward. For more information about Karen, visit her website or find them on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. If you're new to Owning Up, make sure and subscribe, so you'll know when a new episode drops. Transformational Leadership Coach Jessica Wright

Moni talks with Jessica Wright, CEO, and founder of Wright Life Coaching. Jessica is an AMSE member and life coach. She has her masters in Transformational Leadership and is a member of the International Coaching Federation. Plus, she's a vegan cupcake maker! Jessica helps others release limiting beliefs in her business. She walks alongside them, reflects on them, and tries to help them go beneath the narrative they have built for themselves. Her main thing to ask is, "why?" This helps them connect their values to their purpose. Jessica believes being a changemaker isn't reserved only for those in charge. Anyone can be a changemaker. So she created a free gift - 12 Journal Prompts for Changemakers that will help deepen your reflections and elevate your leadership skills. Here are some other things you'll hear in this episode: Life can feel like a tornado. But you may not be able to show up with intention because you're caught up in the tornado. You have to figure out what's at the core. You can show up with intention when you have a stronger sense of what's at the core. She's starting a course about Identity to help others find themselves and teach them to keep from losing who they are to other things. Such as a job, a role, or even what others think of them. Learn to let go of limiting beliefs. It's not all going to fall apart if you take 15 minutes just to breathe. So you don't have to do everything. She loves to work with others one-on-one. One way to be intentional is with your words. Intention has a lot to do with how we do or don't understand who we are. For more information about Jessica, visit her website or find them on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Click here to schedule a free coaching consultation. Welcome to the 3rd Installment of the PCS Special Sunday Series with Moni Jefferson First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Second, a quick recap of last week's episode. Moni talked about a few essential items: Use project management tools such as AMSE's PCS Trello Board. Put these in place for your family and business 90 days in advance. Ensure your SOPs (standard operating procedures) are well defined and available for your team or those helping you run your business while moving. You can access free templates online to create your SOP, but you can also create a video breaking down the SOP. Whether they help your team during the PCS or if you need to onboard a new team member, a video explanation can be a great tool! Set up a workflow with deadlines that work best for you and your team. This is a great time to re-evaluate what items need your immediate attention. Ask yourself. Tips from this episode: While you're waiting on a move date, give yourself and your family a lot of grace. Family stuff to get ready six weeks out: Get your kid's records to keep with you in case you have to change where they have to go to school. Make those final medical appointments - dentist, eye exams, physicals, etc. Get your medications filled a few months out for that just in case moment! Go through your clothing, especially your kid's clothing. They could've outgrown some things or just don't want them anymore. This is a great time to purge. Business stuff to take care of: Hire those new team members to help during this time. Always good to do it before you get overwhelmed. Really knock out those SOPs. If there's something you've been asked to do, this is the time to learn to say no. Ask yourself - is it essential, and what's the ROI for this? Be careful not to put too much pressure on your team during this time. Use the MyPCS App to make a checklist for your business. Use the PCS Your Business Blueprint to make your move easier. Something to remember - PCSing doesn't have to be complicated. And, you are allowed to pivot and move things that aren't needing immediate attention during this time. Serve your audience/clients that best represent your values and mission. Have some tips you want to share about PSCing your business? Email them to [email protected]. IFund Women with Jamie Bennett

Moni talks with Jamie Bennett, Human Resources Director of IFundWomen and an entrepreneur. She began her journey at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, then the Lehman Brothers, followed by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Atlanta, a non-profit in the financial services industry. She also has twenty-five years of experience in human resources. IFundWomen is a partner with AMSE, and our relationship helps us serve and provide resources to help our members get all they can on their entrepreneurial journey. Even though Jamie always wanted to be a businesswoman, she ran from her entrepreneurial journey. Raised as a military kid, she understands the service and sacrifice mindset of the military family. So it's no surprise that she gives credit to that sacrifice when speaking about how she was able to attend Spellman College, where she received a B.A. in Economics. She received her MBA from CUNY - Baruch Colleg, The Zicklin School of Business, specializing in HR. After working in human resources, she wanted to branch out and start her own business. Jamie continues to work in human resources because she loves serving the community. The employer-employee relationship has changed, and she loves bridging the gap between them. Know there is comfort in being anonymous. You have to walk hand in hand with fear. Know one will remember the 80% you forgot, just the 20% you remembered. She believes you will have no peace unless you do what you were created to do. Know who your support is and understand where people fit in your journey and when you can bring them in. Be mindful of the categories between an employee and a contractor. Then, get on the IRS website and find out all you can. When you're a solopreneur, write down everything you're doing. When you're a solopreneur, write down everything you're doing. First, what are you too expensive to do as the CEO. Then, make it make sense for your business. Get your mindset right. Get your prices right. Consider who you're serving when your price your products and services. She's training to become a coach and is excited to help others transform their business journey. For more information about Jamie and her company website, visit the IFundWomen website or find them on LinkedIn and Facebook. Part 2: PCS Your Business Without Falling Apart

Welcome to the PCS Special Sunday Series with Moni Jefferson First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Second, a quick recap of last week's episode. Moni talked about a few essential items: Decide whether you're going to stop your business, onboard a new team member, or continue the business. Decide what you can do that you cannot delegate. Create a plan. Automate as much as you can. Tips from this episode: Use project management tools such as AMSE partner - Monday.com - to streamline your business. Ask yourself: How is this serving me? Is this generating a return on investment right now? Is this something that can wait? Do my team, and I have the bandwidth for this? What can I outsource? Something to remember - PCSing doesn't have to be complicated. And, you are allowed to pivot and move things that aren't needing immediate attention during this time. Serve your audience/clients that best represent your values and mission. Have some tips you want to share about PSCing your business? Email them to [email protected]. If you're new to Owning Up, make sure and subscribe, so you'll know when a new episode drops. Financial Wellness with AMSE Coach Noea Moss

Moni talks with AMSE Coach and financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual, Noea Moss. Noea has been an AMSE member since the beginning, and she's been coaching for the past 6 - 8 months. When she was in college, she was seeking a business degree. Some financial advisors visited one of her classes, and she decided to do an internship with them. Noea shares that it was a huge learning curve in the beginning as a financial advisor. Her spouse was supportive. She learned to set boundaries to make sure things get done. She knew she would be a military spouse and wanted a career that would be able to move anywhere. She realized a lack of engaging the spouses in the financial process and decided to involve both people. Regardless of who makes the money. When dealing with finances, the spouse may not work outside of the home, but they are usually the one who pays the bills. She dealt with a sexist comment by getting support from other females in her industry. Being a young female, she is breaking the glass ceiling in the financial advisor world. Saw the ad for AMSE and was so excited to sign up. She can be a resource to other military families. Entrepreneurs need to create a retirement package, track their profits and losses, and prepare an emergency fund for your business for those months when you're not making as much money in your industry. For more information about Noea and her company, visit her website or find them on LinkedIn and Facebook. If you're new to Owning Up, make sure and subscribe, so you'll know when a new episode drops. You can also join the Facebook group to see what other milspouse entrepreneurs are up to and receive the latest AMSE news. Want to show your support for the Owning Up Podcast? So she went back to school for her finance degree but struggled to reach her full earning potential and decided to start her own business. Some takeaways from this episode: Lacey realized she was tired of volunteering but is so glad she did because she believes volunteering allows you to learn and grow in areas where you aren't the greatest. You can fail, and it's okay. Your business is your imaginary friend. No one gets it at the beginning. It's only you. You're trying to get others on board with something when it's starting. You have to build your confidence. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will. You need to understand every component of your business, even if you're not going to be the one to do it. It allows you to know all the ins and outs of your business. She realized that she could reach more people with a podcast and write her blog, so she did! Ignore the people who criticize you. They aren't going to be there for you or support you. Finances in the military don't have to be a scary topic. Don't beat yourself up with your finances wherever you are in life. But, spend more than you make and save and invest for the future. That's the core to financial freedom. Save for emergencies and opportunities. Unfortunately, most people only save for emergencies. Take things as they come and know you need to make money. Start your business even if you're not an expert yet. Just start! You can't be an expert until you start and get going. Entrepreneurs can get a 401K. So start planning for your 80-year-old self now. If you're a milspouse with a business or are thinking of starting one, join us here at AMSE Membership. The Power of Choice with guest Moniek Jones

Welcome back, listeners! It's Season 4 of Owning Up! First, we are grateful for YOU, our listeners, partners, and sponsors. Now, let's jump right in! This season, Moni wanted to bring on guests who influence the community and are dreamers, makers, doers, believers, bold and bravely creating the career of their dreams. This podcast is here to support military spouse business owners. Our guest this week is Moniek James - veteran, military spouse, speaker, author, columnist, online serial entrepreneur, and founder of Renegade Creative Media Group. Moniek's mission is: "Teaching small business owners and brands how to leverage content marketing to deliver their genius to the world." After being in the military, Moniek found herself at a job where she was denied a raise to match her counterpart. This is where her entrepreneurial journey began. First, she started a blog about beauty and fashion, which led to local events. Then, the blog ended up turning into a business. Some takeaways from this episode: The personal and business journey is about self-discovery. First, figure out who you are to show up as that person. Think of your life as an obstacle course. What are you going to do to get through it? Everything is a choice, even situations that aren't a win. But how you face that challenge matters. What's available to you to help you grow and be different? What will position you for more growth? What is it teaching you? Learn to talk about your products strategically with messages designed to show how your business can change the mind of your customers. Moniek is a confidence coach and teaches four types of frameworks to help her clients, which she shares with us in this episode. Moniek is one of our AMSE Group Coaches and Writers. She evolved from the challenges that she has faced and continues to take the time to learn and develop her skills. As a result, she's an "unapologetic book nerd." If you're new to Owning Up, make sure and subscribe, so you'll know when a new episode drops. You can also join the Facebook group to see what other milspouse entrepreneurs are up to and receive the latest AMSE news.
