S3 Ep 11True Stories of Life Behind the Badge with Mike Barron

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Michael Barron, retired Police Sgt., Publisher of The Blues Police Magazine, and author of Thin Blue Line: Life Behind the Badge on @A Badge of Honor TV.What does it truly mean to wear the badge in America? In Thin Blue Line: Life Behind the Badge, retired Sergeant Michael Barron pulls back the curtain on a profession few truly understand and even fewer survive unchanged. Drawing from his own career and the firsthand accounts of dozens of officers, Barron delivers an unfiltered look at life on the street—where split-second decisions carry life-or-death consequences and the line between order and chaos is razor thin. For more than 42 years, The BLUES published monthly “war stories” from law enforcement officers across the country. Now, Barron—founder and editor-in-chief of The BLUES—has assembled the most powerful, haunting, and unforgettable of those stories into one riveting volume. Thin Blue Line takes readers behind the scenes of real officer-involved shootings, volatile domestic disturbances, close calls, and the devastating loss of fellow officers killed in the line of duty.Barron writes not only as a journalist and editor, but as a survivor. A veteran officer who himself was involved in not one, but two officer-involved shootings, he brings a raw authenticity to every page. His voice captures the fear, adrenaline, guilt, camaraderie, and resilience that define the profession—along with the dark, often misunderstood humor cops use to cope with the job’s relentless stress. At times intense, at times heartbreaking, and at times unexpectedly funny, Thin Blue Line: Life Behind the Badge is more than a collection of stories—it is a testament to the men and women who hold the line between society and chaos – in their world it’s called the Thin Blue Line. And the cost to hold that line is personal and many times deadly. S2 Ep 47S2. Ep. 47 Service Sacrifice and Unwavering Conviction with Doc Pete Chambers

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.), Special Forces Green Beret, Physician, and Gubernatorial Candidate for Texas "Doc" Pete Chambers on @A Badge of Honor TV.Doc Pete’s story is one of service, sacrifice, and unwavering conviction. From the battlefield to the border, he’s answered the call to protect others. Now, he’s stepping up to lead Texas with courage and principle.Dr. Pete Chambers is a decorated U.S. Army veteran whose remarkable 39-year military career includes service in the Active Duty, Reserves and the National Guard. He began his service as an enlisted infantryman and became a Senior Green Beret Officer and Special Operations Flight Surgeon. He was honored to serve Texans in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) during his last eight years in uniform. Doc is a combat wounded, Purple Heart recipient and has also been awarded numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Medical Badge.Doc began serving Texans in 1998 as a Resident Physician in Primary Care at Port Arthur, Texas. He entered back into Active-Duty service after 9/11. He returned to Texas in 2015 to serve as a Green Beret and then finally as a Task Force Surgeon assigned to Operation Lone Star (OLS). He entered the National Spotlight after he stood up to the unlawful orders imposed upon 6000 Texas Guardsmen by the DoD and the Texas Military Department. In 2022, Doc Pete again stepped into the national spotlight when Senator Ron Johnson named him as one of four DoD whistleblowers who exposed the dangers of the unlawfully mandated vaccine, going on to testify as a fact witness in the landmark Navy SEALs v. DoD case. Doc Pete’s courage and leadership under pressure helped reaffirm and protect the religious exemption rights of all U.S. servicemen. That action resulted in his being ostracized by the Texas Military Department and the loss of his position as the OLS Task Force Surgeon.Following his untimely retirement from the Texas Army National Guard, Doc Pete founded and currently serves as President of the Remnant Ministry TX, an association of ministries that specializes in disaster relief and counter human trafficking. Of most recent note, the Remnant Ministry has been involved in Operations in Western North Carolina post Hurricane Helene, the fires in North Texas and the flooding along the Guadalupe corridor.Doc Pete is the quintessential Warrior Diplomat. He is running for Governor in The Great State of Texas to bring a ‘servant’s heart’ ethos to Texan leadership. He is a champion of truth, transparency, and bold action to restore Texas as a stronghold of liberty. To quote Doc Pete, when asked his response to why he is running for the position of Senior Public Servant in Texas (Governor), his response; “It is the natural progression of a Godly man to see injustice and take a stand.” Find out more at https://docpetechambers.org/A Badge of Honor offers workshops to first responders across the nation, working with mental health liasons and critical incident management teams for Post Traumatic Stress Injury Recovery, wellness and resilience. S2 Ep 41S2. Ep. 41 Upgrade Your Brain After Trauma with Dr. John King

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz discuss healing your brain from trauma with the creator of BrainTap, Dr. John King on @A Badge of Honor TV.Dr. John A. King is an author, poet, long-time activist and founder of the Give Them a Voice Foundation in Texas, which he launched in 2015 to provide advocacy, support, resources and rescue for those who have been sexually abused or trafficked, and support for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. King understands what the victims experienced. At 3pm. On a Thursday. In 2008. Dr. King experienced total recall of over a decade of sexual abuse by his parents and their friends that he suppressed…and the walls came tumbling down.ALL GONE. Marriage. Career. Health. He sought help from a therapist, who burst out crying and said she couldn’t cope with what they had done to me, it was the worst story she had heard in 30 years of counseling, and I thought…WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT.So he did what my old boxing coach taught me. He tucked in his chin and threw punches, refused to quit. John wasn’t going to die broken because of what someone else did to him.The result, a book of poetry anonymously called No Working Title – a life in progress. Out of his journey grew the Give The A Voice Foundation. Our aims are Advocacy, Resourcing and Rescue to those that have been abused and trafficked and those that suffer from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Along the way, in response to every person met who said, “Why are you not MORE crazy,” John wrote #dealwithit: Living Well with PTSD. It is a summary of the lessons I learned and the principles. In 2013, he retired from 23 years of military service in Army Special Operations, including combat tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. As a teen and young woman, she endured an extreme and prolonged cycle of abuse. Despite her physical and emotional scars, she went on to complete a very successful career in Emergency Medicine that spanned more than twenty years. Mary has earned her Masters in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Timeline Therapy. She brings incredibly effective tools and techniques to trauma work, and continues to teach and mentor within the Public Safety Services and military communities. Operation Angel Wing targets the individual needs of American veterans, active military, the Public Safety Service community, and their families suffering from the devastating effects of Post-Traumatic Stress. S2 Ep 7S2. Ep. 7 Finding Respite at Responders Retreat with founders Liz & Joe Bartholomew

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Liz & Joe Bartholomew, founders of Responders Retreats on @A Badge of Honor TV.Responders Retreat's mission is to provide respite and retreat opportunities needed due to the performance of professional service duties. Liz created the concept for Responders Retreat after Joe retired from the fire department. Joe's experiences incurred in the line of duty over a 33 year career led to a diagnosis of PTSD. It impacted her husband at work, at home, and their family. After moving to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Liz noticed positive change in Joe's mood, outlook, and social interactions that continue to date. Hoping others could benefit similarly, Responders Retreat was born. Every hour of every day, first responders in this country respond to our calls for help. Many of us cannot comprehend how those calls impact them and the stress that can build up because of what they see, hear, touch, or smell in the line of duty. The goal at Responders Retreat is to offer an environment in which they might reduce some of that stress and feel free to open up about how they are processing that stress without feeling judged. S2 Ep 4S2. Ep. 4 On-Duty Psych Dr. Kristen Wheldon

Hosts and PTSI Resilience Trainers John Salerno and Samantha Horwitz talk with Dr. Kristen Wheldon, Clinical Director of On-Duty Psych on @A Badge of Honor TV.Dr. Kristen Wheldon is passionate about the behavioral health of firefighters and their families. She is the President and Founder of the Fire Service Psychology Association (FSPA), the nonprofit created to bridge the gap between professional psychology and the fire service. Dr. Wheldon previously worked as the Director of Behavioral Health for the Los Angeles Fire Department. In that role, she provided direct psychological services to firefighters and their families, managed and supervised the peer support and CISM teams, provided training on behavioral health topics, and supervised two doctoral psychology students. As one of a few fire psychologists in the country, she recognized that firefighters do not have access to psychological care tailored to their specific needs and founded FSPA. Since then, she has assisted the United States Fire Administration with developing its newest Executive Fire Officer Program curriculum and is an active instructor. She serves on the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard for Emergency Responder Occupational Health and Wellness committee. She is a Public Safety Sector Council member for the National Occupational Research Agenda at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
