After noticing a trend in NFL kickers leaning the ball forward for field goals (but not kickoffs), Shafer became curious if a forward lean could improve the ball’s contact point and trajectory for kickoffs. Dubuc played for the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in the early 90’s, leading the Chiefs to the state finals in 1992. He later committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, where he played WR, RB, KR, and PR. His performance for the Red Raiders drew interest from the CFL, where Dubuc would be drafted in the first round of the 1997 CFL Draft by the Toronto Argonauts. He would later be traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he would retire after the 1999 season. After the CFL, Dubuc coached receivers for 2 years at West Texas A&M while serving as their NFL film liaison. Dubuc is currently in his 18th year coaching at his alma mater, Cardinal Gibbons, and he is in his 6th year as the head coach. He won the 2018 Florida 5A State Championship (the first in school history) and in 2020 the Chiefs won a second title.
