S5 Ep 27S05 EP27: Scaling DTC Facebook Ads with Product Centred Video Ad Creatives
On today’s episode, Kunle interviews Moshe Saraf, Founder and CEO of Pareto Solutions, an elite performance marketing agency headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel. They specialise in promoting direct-to-consumer and unicorn brands such as eko, Fiverr, NectarSleep, Mixtiles, The Flex Belt, Uprightpose, Puls.com If you live in the US or the EU, chances are that you will most likely have not only seen one of Pareto's fast-paced, product-oriented ads but also purchased a product or service (like Kunle has), that the agency has promoted on Facebook or Snapchat. The focus of our conversation today was on creative led media buying on the Facebook Advertising Platform. Here is a summary of some of the most important points made, Pareto Solutions operate a Creative Leasing Model - this means that they exclusively work with brands with a monthly Facebook ads spend starting from $500,000 - the take on $200,000 as a test to prove their expertise and control not just campaign structure but more importantly control all creatives. When they demonstrate their entire campaign and creative structure to be better, the lease out their creatives to the clients. They apply an 18% campaign management fee to the $200,000 spend and then a 7.5% fee on the campaigns leasing their ad creatives. Moshe says that they spend 80% of their time and focus on eCommerce ads campaigns on either creating creatives or optimising existing creatives. When selling direct-to-consumer you essentially want to create product-oriented ads Their campaign structure is incredibly simple - it is comprised of just 2 campaigns The first frame of creatives are hugely important for engagement - craft them like you craft a landing page - you want to address either the key value or a key pain as early as possible in your creative. Do not limit signals to Facebook by limiting audience sizes or focusing on narrow audiences. ----------- SPONSORS: This episode is brought to you by: Klaviyo This episode is brought to you by Klaviyo – a growth marketing platform that powers over 25,000 online businesses. S5 Ep 20S05 EP20: Transforming Product Returns to a Retention Profit Centre
Your customers’ journey doesn’t end after a purchase. What happens after a purchase is made, is what differentiates one DTC eCommerce brand from another. For instance, do you have a seamless and automated Return and Customer Service Program in place to assist customers that want to return an item? How is customer experience over a return process? And are you giving customers a sufficient range of options that encourage customer loyalty? What most eCommerce brands miss in their customer retention efforts is that building a relationship with each customer is an investment in itself. One way to look at it is through incentivising your customers with free shipping or store credits. But the real deal happens when you create tailor-fit Customer Retention programs based on your rate of product returns and refunds, your purchase rates, AOV, and your conversion metrics. On today’s episode, Kunle and Joe dig deep into analysing return metrics, industry benchmarks, and a roadmap to building a CX pipeline that reduces refunds and cuts down overheads whilst expanding your customer base. ----------- SPONSORS: This episode is brought to you by: Klaviyo This episode is brought to you by Klaviyo – a growth marketing platform that powers over 25,000 online businesses. The appropriate selection of a technology stack is critical in eCommerce as well as varies at critical business growth stages as business challenges evolve. With numerous platforms and applications available out there in the market, it’s vital to select technologies that enable you to deliver customer experiences that level up your business in your industry. S5 Ep 16SE05 EP16: How DTC Watch Brand, UNDONE is Delivering Quality, Value and High Level Customization
Building your own brand in a mature and established vertical can be somewhat likened to being in a David and Goliath story, going against giants who have long gained and cemented their foothold in the industry. And it certainly is no easy feat to set up your own brand, not to mention distinguishing yourself from other big names out there in the market. But as our guest, Michael Young, would say, “If you follow the same paradigm, you cannot run because people have been doing it for more than 50 years and doing it better than people that do it the same way for 50 years is very difficult. The only way to win is to be different.” And this is exactly how they managed to bring UNDONE into the direct-to-consumer eCommerce space that is earning millions of dollars each year in creating personalised watches for their end users. UNDONE is a Hong Kong-based watch company that creates uniquely customised designs for its users. They take pride in empowering the consumer by giving back the design-making process into the consumer’s hands and bringing in the authenticity of the brand with each highly customisable watch. Join Kunle and Michael in today’s episode as they talk about entrepreneurship, crowdfunding, operations management, and building a brand in a highly-competitive space. ★ Support this podcast ★

S5 Ep 8SE05 EP08: Creating Effective Video Ads
On today's episode, Kunle goes deep into the subjects of emotional selling, developing video creatives and media buying scheduling. Emotion is critical to advertising and advertising works by establishing feelings, associations and memories in relation to a brand. The association of memories influences buyer behaviour which ultimately translates into a purchase. Emotions help, stimulate and guide attention create and reinforce associations created by advertising What your video ads should set out to do is, to deliver incidental learning in a passive way, whilst your media buying strategy will ensure audience relevance. Repetition helps establish memory more firmly, it will typically take more exposures to establish a new memory than to confirm an old memory. Media Planning + Effective Creatives have to work together and might require continuous or infrequent exposure that is dependent on the following four factors. 1. Likeable ads So your first task as an ad buyer is to ensure that your ad(s) triggers apositive emotional response. i.e. it is likeable. Likability and relative likability determine the degree of attention the ad will attract as well as the potential response. 2. How established is your brand amongst your target audience? Brand equity - What brand associations and stored memories have been accumulated thus far? Are you working with a full or empty cupboard? This will determine both the degree of frequency and creative refresh required to enable you plan your media buys. 3. Stagnant vs Fresh messaging in creatives Ad exposure: Frequency and intervals between ads Excessive frequency does not work well with stagnant creatives High frequency on the other hand will work with on-brand creatives that deliver fresh messages and new ideas 4. Are your new creatives delivering a new message or new offer? If yes, they may be competing against existing memories. And will need more exposure to force brand associations and stored memories ★ Support this podcast ★
