Ep 49TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES
It is the kind of story you expect to find in the movies- but this one is taking place in real life. When 21 year-old American soldier Norwood Thomas met 17 year-old Joyce Durrant on the banks of the River Thames in London a few weeks before the JUne 6, 1944 D-Day Invasion, neither had any idea they would be reunited by a Skype conversation 71 years later. Norwood was attached to the 101st Airborne division, an elite group of paratroopers whose mission it was to make a jump behind German lines during the Invasion of Normandy, not knowing if the Allies would be able to break through the German's strong coastal defenses or not. Prior to the mission, training in England, he met Joyce Durrant. The winds of war were to separate the two, each of whom married and raised a family, she in Australia, and he in Virginia. Fate wasn't finished with them yet, however, and an old love was about to be given a second chance. This story isn't finished--you can follow by searching "Norwood Thomas + Joyce Morris" + "update"- to see how they are getting along. Ep 46BLOOD BROTHERS: THE TRUE STORY THAT INSPIRED THE JOHN WAYNE WESTERN "THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER"
"Blood Brothers: The True Story That Inspired the John Wayne Movie "The Sons of Katie Elder". On the evening of January 19th, 1889, two wagons and a buggy slowly crossed Dry Creek, two miles east of Graham, Texas. The lead wagon held six prisoners, four of them being the Marlow Brothers, chained together in pairs by manacles attached to their ankles, and a guard named Phlete Martin. The second wagon carried Deputy U.S.Marshall Edward Johnson, three guards, plus spare weapons and ammunition, while four more guards followed behind, two in a buggy, and two on horseback. Suddenly, from the darkness, came s shout saying "Hold Up!", and guard Phlete Martin shouted "Here they are, take all six of the sons of _itches". A wild gunfight followed that left five men dead, an act that was only a part of a long series of tragic events that included misinformation, wrongful persecution, mob attacks, lawsuits, killing, a famous Texas Ranger, a Colorado lawman, and the U,S. Supreme Court. The Marlow Brothers were innocent. A lot of people wanted them dead. Their story inspired the 1965 western "The Sons of Katie Elder", starring John Wayne, which rendered a version in total much different than the real story, which was much more dramatic. Ep 42THE MIRACLE OF THE SUN & THE THREE SECRETS OF FATIMA
"The Miracle of the Sun and the 3 Secrets of Fatima"- We originally did this story about a year ago, and just came back to it recently knowing that there was more to tell...actually a story within a story, and one that needs telling, in light of the challenges the world and the Catholic Church are facing. The story of The Miracle of The Sun, which is probably the most witnessed religious miracle in history, involves three shepherd children in Portugal who witnessed a series of heavenly apparitions, climaxing in an event witnessed by tens of thousands. The story within is an account of the Three Secrets- prophecies given to the children on July 13, 1917, by an apparition they believed was the Virgin Mary. These prophecies, which contained a vision of hell, the end of world war I and beginning of world war II, and a third that predicted the persecution of Christians and the killing of the Pope. The Third Secret, by the request of a child named Lucia, who was the oldest of the three, was not released by the Catholic Church until the year 2000, causing a stir of controversy that still exists today, as there were some within the Church that have said that what the Church released was not at all what Lucia had written. E"The Hunt For the Real Moby Dick" -In 1839 journalist Jeremiah Reynolds, writing for the New York Knickerbocker Magazine, caught up with the whaling ship "Penguin" off the coast of Chili, and interviewed the first mate, getting the eyewitness account of the hunt for and capture of the whale known as 'Mocha Dick", a 90 foot white whale that had been responsible for attacking and sinking the whaling ship "Essex" , the story of which has been recently released as a Ron Howard movie. In subsequent years, through her efforts, she became a tireless advocate for those in need, from the battlefields of France to Women's Suffrage movements in America.
