Rischa Daraiisa-19 -Shamed in the Sidelines- Fostering Frum "Faucis" for the Future
Here is the interview with Doctor Fauci conducted by the Orthodox Union that spurred this episode's conversation, and the facts behind the quest to develop and supply ventilators mentioned in the beginning of the episode.Rabbis Kivelevitz and Bechhofer lament that there is not a greater representation of frum persons as part of thescientific and medical contributors who have emerged as heroes during the Pandemic Crisis.Rabbi Kivelevitz suggests a more concentrated effort in pushing more of the best and brightest young men and women, albeitcarefully selected by their teachers and principals, towards careers in science, engineering and economics. They would be true agents of Hatzalos Nefoshos in the future.Rabbi Bechhofer, while noting how many of the present day stalwarts of science have no Jewish roots, suggests that their progeny, through the parents personal social contacts with secular Jews, can indeed become part of the Am Hanivchar of the next generation. He references an idea developed by Rav Tzadok Ha Kohen Rabinovitch in one of the sections intentionally omitted from the first edition by advice of the Gerrer Rebbethat puts in perspective the gains in the Jewish gene pool produced by illegal, halachically condemned intermarriage.Kivelevitz is surprised by Bechhofer even floating this antinomian fix that is tethered in the Shita of Ishbitz .Rabbi Kivelevitz opines further that the sidelining of persons over 65 in public forums post Covid-19, will lead to a younger generation handling the mantle of leadership.Citing the mashal of Rav Hutner that compares the elevated status of the Rav to the placement of the town's clock tower high to obviate any tampering, Rabbi Bechhofer is sure that even before the crisis, many of the Gedolim in Eretz Yisroel and Chutz La Aretz have had the hand of others skewering the workings to their whims. He insists that for years, many of the giants of Psak and Hanhagah have been used as tools by younger underlings to push policies and Halachic directives that have fit an agenda. He concedes that the new era might be one of greater transparency and based on merit.Kivelevitz hopes that the patriotic spirit and connection to strong values of citizenship evidenced in the inspiring singing of the Star Spangled Banner by the Chasidishe singers Aron Gerstel and Yaakov Lemmer in front of NYU Langone Medical center portends the end of the suspicious cynical attitude to American law in the frum veldt. Please leave us a review or email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Conserving Torah-5-with Rabbi Mark Gottlieb-Behar-Eternal Values of Shmitah and Yovel
Rabbi Mark Gottlieb is Senior Director of the Tikvah Fund and founding Dean of the Tikvah and Maimonides Scholars at Yale University. Prior to joining Tikvah, Rabbi Gottlieb served as Head of School at Yeshiva University High School for Boys and Principal of the Maimonides School in Brookline, MA.His writing has appeared inFirst Things,Public Discourse, the University Bookman, the Algemeiner, andthe Jewish Review of Books. Rabbi Gottlieb is a member of the Orthodox Forum Steering Committee and serves on the Editorial Committee ofTradition: A Journal of Orthodox Jewish Thought.Rabbi Gottlieb poses a courageous question as to the efficacy and relevance of the Yovel laws which on the surface seem counter intuitive, and leads to a disincentive for private property.Making use of ideas expressed by Rav Aharon Lichtenstein Zt"l in regards to the status of Shmitah,in a world where the Heter Mechirah is so prevalent,Gottlieb offers an explanation of the Jubilee that serves as a reexamination of our over industrialized society. He anchors his Drush with perspectives culled from the American poet, essayist, social commentator Allen Tate and the Pulitzer-prize winning American historian Herbert Agarthat manage to intertwine an idealization of the distinctly American concept of Freedom with a hopefulvision of our Messianic future. The Yeshiva of Newark @IDT is proud to partner with Rabbi Gottlieb in sharing his insightsand thoughtsto as wide an audience as possible .We thank the Tikvah Fund for use of this materialPlease visithttp://tikvahfund.orgto discover the richness of the programs and educational opportunitiesoffered by that institution as well as scintillating lectures and interviewsPlease leaveusa review or email us [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. One on One with Charlie Harary-Episode 9-How to bring a Real Rebbe into your life
Charlie Harary internationally known investor, strategic adviser and professor and motivational speaker sits down when his schedule allows with Rabbi Kivelevitz to discuss the interface of Jewish values in the greater western World and a touch of sports. With a world in crisis, the need for solid Torah guidance in a personal way is greater than ever.Outside of the insulated Chasidic world where having a Rebbe is an essential part of the sociological structure of the community,it is becoming rarer to find individuals and families who rely regularly on a life coach who radiates a Torah perspective. The plethora of information and advice that is accessible on the Web seems to remove the need for having a personal Posek for many, and has enhanced the phenomenon of "Shitah Shopping",where the individual is the arbiter of the final Halachic direction which tends to be based on their own prejudices, proclivities and their egoistical sides .Primacy of social media as the connecting tissue to othersdiminishes the opportunity of face to face nuanced personal advice.GenerationXers and millennials have been notoriously disinclined to rely on voices from the older generations.Charlie Harary,in perhaps his most personal and passionate One on One interview to date, reveals who his Rebbe is,and how that mentor has guided his life.Notwithstanding Charlie's oft-stated philosophy of refusing to surrender your individuality, and never stunting your growth as a person,he sounds a clarion call here for the indispensability of having a more experienced personage shaping the direction of your life.Due to his lineage(Chasidic-Sephardi),Charlie comes to Kevod Chachamim naturally yet he begins his argument based on the principles of the Nobel Prize winning economist Daniel Kahneman that even the best intentioned individual is subject to the pressures of cognitive bias, and will routinely choose a selfish, and at times self destructive path."The Rebbe's input and listening can save a family on the most basic gashmius level!"Charlie says.Clearly taken by the subject of the conversation,Charlie sketches the different roles Rebbes have played historically, differentiating between1)the Tzaddik who has no previous relationship to you,yet you believe in,due to his saintly and holy persona-a Baal Ruach HaKodesh.2)the Talmid Chacham extraordinaire, who is retained as a purely legal resource when a halacha is beyond your grasp3)The person who has deeply inspired you with the quality and sagacity of the Divrei Torah he has delivered and becomes your "Rock" of decision and by extension, the family's CEO.Rabbi Kivelevitz asks Charlie for the recipe to latch onto that some one who stirs you, especially if he is extremely sought after by others.Charlie refers to his relationship with Kehilas Eish Kodesh and his Rebbe Rav Moshe Weinberger and explains how one should bepersistent, sharpening the point they need the input on,to make the most of the few minutes they might have with the Rebbe. While exhorting us to shoot for the stars in pursuing the well known charismatic leaders, Charlie encourages persons to reconsider Rebbeim they have already had, albeit in a different fashion.Elementary school teachers whose memories stillbrim with fondness for their past students, can be rediscovered as a great source of adult guidance,or as a conductor and provider of "protectzia" to get your foot in the door of a Gadol. As Rabbi Kivelevitz puts it in this episode,"The bridges are there, the challenge is in finding them".Charlie adds that one can't be sucked in completely by external appearances, and their Rebbe might be a clean shaven business person who lives down the block, who is a dedicated Oveid Hashem. Finally,Charlie exhorts his listeners in fervid tones to add the finding of a Rebbe to their Tefilos with the same intensity they daven for parnassah and health and Shalom Bayis. While mostly Charlie's megaphone,Rabbi Kivelevitz adds an important postscript. He puts forth the ideal Baal Habayis in Rav Yisroel Salanter's conception. One whose proficiency in learning is advanced enough to be their own posek confidently in most cases, relying on the Moreh Horaah only whentheir own scholarly research has left them at an impasse. This means,Kivelevitz claims, that the Rebbe will be called on for the whole life issues more than those that circle the Kitchen,Mikvah, and Cemetery.Charlie adds that the Salanterian approach will upgrade the limited Halachic interaction with the Posek, and allow you to grasp more of how they think as opposed to just what to do.Rabbi Kivelevitz responds with a brilliant interpretation he heard from Rav Aharon Soloveichick zt"l concerning the source of Moshe Rabbeinu's Karnei Hod.According to Rav Aharon, Chazal see a Rebbe in the mold of Moshe Rabbeinu, as one who doesn't overwhelm and dictate, giving over exact language, yet leaving much unsaid. Please leave us a review or email us at [email protected] out more about this podcast fromyeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcast

The Chavrusa Episode 4- A Lag baOmer Special-Rabbi Kivelevitz Vs Rabbi Worch on Teaching true Kabbalah to the masses
Rabbis Kivelevitz and Rabbi Worch hobble past computer issues and record via telephone an important debate as to whether the time has come to study Kabbalah in earnest.Using Lag BaOmer as their departure point ,the pair acknowledge that the only cause to celebrate the day is by recognizing the contribution Rashbi's Zohar and its Lurianic interpreters have made in transforming and uplifting Jewish life.Rabbi Worch feels that the charge contained in the Zohar to bring about the redemption must be acted upon by the Jewish people by devoting themselves to the spreading of the authentic esoteric wisdom of the Torah. That, he argues, will only occur when exact Kabbalistic terminology(sephiros/zivugim/yechudim) and imagery are introduced alongside the standard fundamental Jewish concepts found in Mikra and Mishna. His co-host reminds him that this approach was aggressively suggested almost two centuries ago by Rav Tzvi Hersh of Zidotchov, yet was never adopted even in the cloistered communities of Eastern Europe.Rabbi Kivelevitz believes that the wisdom in its real sense can still thrive in the hands of the great Mystics that still study and engage in theoretical and practical Kabbalah.Rav Shimon Bar Yochai's legacy,Kivelevitz points out, has already trickled down in thousands of ways that touch our Tefillos and first assumptions of the nature of the soul and God's Providence. The Chasidic masters,he stresses, have already provided enough beautifully crafted ideas and drushim to latch onto for most, with the true strivers still able to join the ranks of the initiates.Rabbi Worch claims that the strictures placed on these studies post the Sabbatian and Frankist debacles need to be lifted in order for a post modern world Jewish community to have what it needs to quench their desire for knowing the essence of our Creator's demands on us.Rabbi Kivelevitz responds that in today's global open cyber life, uncorking the "ancient wine" could lead to its being sullied and defiled in the manner of Aleister Crowley,or turned into the New Age piffle that attracted Madonna/Esther.Please leave us a review or email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. On Principle-8- Challenges in Jewish Education with Rabbi Yossi Kenigsberg- recipe for effective secular Study departments in Right wing Yeshivos
Rabbi Yossi Kenigsberg is the principal of Mesivta Yesodei Yisroel in Elkins Park Pennsylvania, a fledgling but vibrant High school that is part of the vast network of educational institutions under the Touro umbrella.Rabbi Kenigsberg is an educator with almost four decades of experience and has served as a principal in Torah Day schools and Yeshivos for over a quarter of a century.Along with being a supervisor for the renowned nationwide Catapult Learning where he has been intensively involved with summer enrichment learning for inner city children, he routinely consults in cases of severe learning disabilities as a licensed Wilson dyslexia practitioner.Rabbi Kenigsberg received an M.A in Mental Health Counseling in 2008.He joins his friend of over forty years,Avraham Kivelevitz, to discuss one of the most pressing endemic problems that plagues the Yeshivish school system. It is not the dearth of essential reading and writing skills in the curriculum that was the focus of New York Cityinvestigators splashed in the headlines last year .(See the important corrective article on those points by Moshe Krakowski here)The actual scandalous open secret is the incredible dropout rate of teachers assigned to those programs, and the rampantchutzpah evinced by the Talmidim, to the Jewish and Gentile instructors. The Hanhalah of the Yeshivos routinely issue stern warnings to the children, exhorting the school population toexhibit "midos tovos" and respect the qualified educators. The children are lectured to understand the importance that lays in their future by mastering the subjects being taught, yet to little avail.Rabbis Kenigsberg and Kivelevitz are both seasoned veterans of these programs and carry the memory of the apathy andabuse issuing from students, oft times coupled with incompetent administrative micromanagement that places small band -aids on large festering wounds. In his new position, Rabbi Kenigsberg has been able to implement an effective program, staffed with seasoned professionals that have earned a respect bordering on reverence from the 25 young men that comprise the present enrollment of the school.Unlike other right wing Yeshivos that have limited teleconferencing partner learning and instruction to Limudei Kodesh,( see here for On Principle's interview with a principal that explains their rationale) Yesodei Yisroel's eager student body hasno qualms in handling real-time interactive instruction throughout the three hours of the afternoon time allotted for core subjects and is arguably thriving even in the midst of the Corona lock down.Kenigsberg ascribes the success to the wonderful relationship he has with the Menahel on site, and the guidancethat organically stems from the other "Yesodei" high schools inTouro's stable:Yesodei Yeshurun in Queens, and YesodeiHaTorah in Connecticut. On one level, these schools are being developed as feeder schools for Yeshivas Ohr Ha Chaim and Landers College forMen.More significantly, through its careful hiring and creation of an environment of transparent communication,Touro seems to have found the recipe for staff pride and satisfaction.Bernard Lander's success in bringing far flung colleges under one banner, has resulted in the ability of these preparatoryschools to offer compensation commensurate with the skills of the instructors.Staff retention is widely accepted as the single mostimportant element for providing stability.Successive classes will graduate and matriculate to higher education and leave the Yeshiva High schools with an outlook towards math, science, history and English language that is unapologetically positive.Rabbi Kivelevitz speculates that unlike its larger rival,Yeshiva University, Touro doesn't have to defend a Torah U Maadaphilosophy which has caused frequent rifts between representatives of each wing.Unburdened by the shambling labyrinth-like make up of YU,where mixed messages are received by the college students regarding the primacy of Torah learning and a Rabbinic career, bochurim whohave gone through the Yesodei-Ohr Ha Chaim-Landers system understand the choices in front of them, and are groomed to enter the professional workforce as good citizens, and authentic Bnei Torah. Please leave us a review or email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Rischa Daraiisa-18-A Mother's Day Special-Behind every Rav-the maternal contribution looms large
With the extremely wide acceptance of the second Sunday in May as Mother's Daysee herethis episode discusses the role the mothers of the co-hosts had in shaping the trajectory of the lives their children have led. These women, both charismatic, accented European expatriates provided crucial ingredients that helped define these two unique Rabbis. The conversation touches on salient differences between the refugees from Western European countries(Bechhofer's parents) from those escapees from Russia and Poland(Kivelevitz's) in terms of the tools their homelands gave them for integration into America.Rabbi Kivelevitz also comments on the positive way the sophisticated Jewish communities of the New York metropolitan area (where the Bechhofers lived) accepted and honored the Pletei HaShoah, allowing them access and identity as American Jews. This was in sharp contrast to the refugees who relocated to smaller cities,(as in the Kivelevitzes case)where the established congregations were embarrassed by the impoverished, ragged Yiddish speakers. Despite the impressive philanthropy funnelled through local federations that enabled the survivors to eventually become financially solvent, those families were marginalized socially, always sensing their otherness.Mrs.Shulamith Bechhofer(see here for a biographical survey of her life)was a master teacher in her own right and took a strong role in "Robbie's"education from the first grade onward. As a scion of the illustrious Schochet Rabbinic family, she encouraged her oldest son to strive for excellence in scholarship and reach for Rabbinic leadership of only the highest order. She might have preferred to see Robbie as a top flight attorney, yet when he announced as a ten year old that he wanted to be a Rabbi, she arranged for him to attend preparatory camps that established Bechhofer's cosmopolitan sense of the Yeshiva world he has thrived in.With no regard to the expense, she enrolled him in Gemara enrichment programs that provided him the background to begin his formal Yeshiva studies functioning way beyond his grade level.Bella (nee Portnoy)Kivelevitz was a product of the intense communist schooling of the 1920's and 30'sthat stressed the natural sciences,as well as art ,music and literature. She matriculated into the prestigious Moscow Medical Academy and graduated at the age of 20,simultaneously awarded her degree as a full fledged Doctor and commission as a Captain in the Russian army. She encouraged her youngest son to understand fully the nature of all phenomenon and to approachdogma with skepticism, and seek answers to human problems in classic literature.Rabbi Kivelevitz remarks of her creative games that spurred him to increase his vocabulary and writefiction, and fondly recalls the plays, concerts and movies she would take him to,and the late night conversations that ensued after the classic films they watched together on an old black and white Zenith.Kivelevitz has no doubt that his love of Midrashic nuance and the literary readings of shakla vitaria he has entertained students through decades of teaching, are due in large part to her.תהיה זכרם ברוך ותנצבצ"הPlease leave us a review or email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Rav Binny's Biurei HaParsha- Episode 9-Emor-Eyin Tachas Ayin-Impossible to rectify-
Rabbi Binny Freedman is a highly engaging and inspirational educator who has a gift for synthesizing difficult, sophisticated material in a way that inspires both the novice and the scholar. His proficiency in applying classic Jewish concepts to contemporary life in a personal and meaningful way has made him a sought after speaker throughout North America and around the world.Rav Binny speaking to his talmidim through ZOOM teleconferencing zeroes in on a section of the Parsha oft times ignored by Darshanim, the tort and damage laws that begin on Chapter 24, verse 17.These verses, particularly verse 20,שֶׁבֶר, תַּחַת שֶׁבֶר, עַיִן תַּחַת עַיִן, שֵׁן תַּחַת שֵׁן--כַּאֲשֶׁר יִתֵּן מוּם בָּאָדָם, כֵּן יִנָּתֶן בּוֹ.force us to understand why the Torah couches the responsibility to make monetary compensation in terms that seem to unleash the ugly demons of vengeance.Binny references Aba Kovner and his band of Nazi killers who ultimately realized how empty and spent their killing spree rendered them.He further asks what was the need the Torah had in repeating these verses as they already appear in Parshas Mishpatim.Along with a historical portrait of the rise of the Karaite schism and the work done by Saadia Gaon to combat their influence, Binny presents Saadia's masterful refutation of the literal take on these verses that has been preserved in Ibn Ezra's commentary.By contrasting the submissive forgiving attitude evinced in Mar Brei DaRavina's Elokei Nitzor(said thrice daily in our times)to the Rambam's directives for a Talmid Chacham to react with harsh consequences toward one who had insulted him,Rav Binny begins to find the clues for when a strict unbending attitude is called for in line with a sense of Kedushas Yisroel. The Ohr HaChaim and Kli Yakar are referenced and Rav Binny buttresses their points using practical examples from traffic accidents in Eretz Yisroel. He convincingly demonstrates how even an exact payment of loss is not true Mishpat, and how the phraseology selected by God was meant to entrench the idea of how ethereal human justice is, and what our sensitivity must be to the victim's loss .Rav Binny suggests strongly from context that the same wording found in Legalistic Parshas Mishpatim is meant to elicit a different holier consciousness in Parshas Emor .We thank the Orayta Yeshivah for the use of this material-Check out more Shiurim and information on their websitehttps://www.orayta.org/Please leave us a review or comment at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Conserving Torah 4 with Rabbi Marc Gottlieb-Sephirah-Liberation through the Medium of Time
Rabbi Mark Gottlieb is Senior Director of the Tikvah Fund and founding Dean of the Tikvah and Maimonides Scholars at Yale University. Rabbi Gottlieb is a member of the Orthodox Forum Steering Committee and serves on the Editorial Committee ofTradition: A Journal of Orthodox Jewish Thought.Jewish scholars through the ages have attached multiple aspects of significance to the command to Count the days of theOmer.Rabbi Gottlieb ventures into this well-trodden domain armed with some important ideas of religious philosophers and emerges with a message desperately needed to extract us from the stultifying malaise brought on by the Corona confinement.Beginning with an idea presented by Rav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik in 1945,that the salient difference between a slave and a freeman is how each one perceives time,he elaborates: a slave’s lack of self-worth andinvolvement in the purpose of his labors perforce generates an emptiness in theEved's consciousness, the simple articulation of a count towards a goal, indicates that this "Hebrew" is actually an actor and author of his own life.Soloveitchik forcefully states that thisMitzvahwas the key spark that began the metamorphosis of a tribe into a nation with a purpose. In the novel historical analysis of Lord Jonathan Sacks some sixty years later, Gottlieb traces a direct line to the broadening of Soloveitchik's ideas.Rabbi Sacks suggests that, at the dawn of the Renaissance, the element that caused the West to leapfrog over the scientifically superior Chinese East was the incorporation of the Jewish sense of history and truth as part of a narrative, seeing God and humanity as unbound by the heaviness of nature that had been the focus in the Orient.Sacks goes further in suggesting that the American revolution's success in bringing deep societal change over its French and Russian counterparts was due in large part to the Founding Fathers seeing "Truth" as a story that was flexible and dynamic, moving through surprising middle stages towards a glorious ending pulled by rational human decisions but not subject to the rigidity of a philosophical system. The thinkers of Paris and Saint Petersburg conversely enmeshed themselves in a system that was soulless yet inexorable, with the resulting horrors of guillotine and gulag rising in the Revolution's wake.Rabbi Gottlieb reveals the great debt Sacks' points owe to the Scottish moral philosopherAlasdair MacIntyre, in particular to his 1981 influential work,After Virtue, which cogently charges each thinking person to seek the moral dimension of their lives and unflinchingly ask, "What story am I a part of?"Gottlieb concludes his talk, quoting the German American political philosopherErich Vögelin, explaining why the mass Revelation of God to mankind, what we celebrate as Shavuos, occurred in a desert, devoid of the noise and bustle of society, paralleling our enforced solitude in the Pandemic, as the best venue for sensing the Divine Word. Covid-19 Choshen Mishpat with Dayan Gershon Schaffel-Wedding Hall Deposits-and Israeli apartments
RenownedYadin Yadin PosekRav Gershon Eliezer Schaffel agrees to share with Rabbi Kivelevitz some of the interesting and pressing questions that the highly respected Beis Din for Choshen Mishpat in Chicago are fielding due to the government enforced shut downs and travel restrictions of the Pandemic. Is a family from the Midwest that put a deposit down last December to reserve a large wedding hall in Lakewood for a Lag B'Omer wedding entitled to a refund?Dayan Schaffel explains the subtleties in determining what "renting a hall" means and how that can determine which party had the stronger case.He elaborates on how the "non-refundable" clause that is standard in every caterer's contract can sometimes be inoperative, depending on whether there existed any possibility for the caterer to have gained other business. In another case, Dayan Schaffel and his colleagues are involved with a young American couple, who are facing law suits from their landlords in Eretz Yisroel for withholding May's rent because they are legally restricted from travelling back. The Dayanim's research into the Shulchan Oruch and relevant responsa have yielded very nuanced findings which will undoubtedly surprise you as much as they did Rabbi Kivelevitz,a Dayan himself in the Beis Din of America.Dayan Schaffel explains the parameters clearly demonstrating in this interview why the Semicha of Yadin Yadin is the height of Rabbinic scholarship, and how expertise in these matters comes from the brilliant comparisons that become iron clad precedent for the next generation. Please leave us a review hereor email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. On Principle - Challenges in Jewish Education-7-with Rabbi Simcha Cook- Charedi Yeshivos Continuing Curriculum through Corona
Rav Simcha Mordechai Cook is the Menahel/Principal of the Mechina (High School)division of Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore Maryland. For over sixty years the school has been one of America's premier Charedi preparatory high schools, dedicated to fostering within its students the understanding of the Talmud in the classic Lithuanian fashion, and building Bnei Torah ready to accept leadership positions in teaching and community affairs.Rav Cook's advice and ideas are consistently sought after, due to his intelligence and clarity of purpose, backed by close to fifty years of experience in education.A trailblazing article on the goals of Charedi Yeshiva education in the 21st Century penned by Rav Cook can be found here.Rabbi Kivelevitz was a student of the present day Menahel when he was his ninth grade Rebbe in 1973; it was only natural for Kivelevitz to turn to his old roots to discover first hand how the Mechina with its intense schedule of three sedarim of chavrusa learning combined with Shiurim from Rabbeim was continuing under lock down orders in Maryland.Rav Cook describes candidly the challenges, and how through trial and error, and consultation with Gedolei Yisroel, the school set up a realistic framework, and aided by Torah Umesorah's Chrome Books (given free to every Talmid,) live interactive learning on par with other educational institutions are now continuing. The "Torah True" technological wizards of Torah Umesorah have constructed a system that allows connectivity without the perceived dangers of the Internet.see here about the wide range of programs under their umbrella.Rabbi Kivelevitz wonders about the privacy issues that can be raised with such individual monitoring capabilities in the hands of the Hanhalah. He also hopes that students that are thriving in the new set-up will be allowed to make use of the virtual distance model after the situation normalizes.Rav Cook understands fully that not one shape mold fits all,and illustrates the varied way students absorb information with a quaint vignette from his own English boyhood, see here for a hint.Rabbi Kivelevitz citing that one of the reasons for Ner Israel's leadership role in the past was its twin commitment to excellence in Judaic and secular studies, wonders how that balance with strong emphasis on the "Three R's" can be maintained from lock down.Rav Cook admits that for the sake of salvaging the fewer hours that could be demanded from their students, the rigorous demands in those subjects were perforce toned down. The students are viewing pre-recorded lessons from their actual instructors, and taking tests on the honor system. The pair of old friends engage in quite a dose of reminiscences from times past and the challenges the young Rebbe had with the precocious Kivelevitz child. Rabbi Kivelevitz reminds his Rebbe of how Rav Cook once caught him with musical contraband(a cassette of Top 40 hits) and the consequences that ensued. Here (for a video) or here (for just audio)is what was Kivelevitz was listening to when he was caught............remember to shut it off when your Mashgiach walks in.....Please leave us a review or email us at [email protected] more information on this podcast visityeshivaofnewark.jewishpodcasts.org See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
