We can probably all recall a musician along the way who would show up to band practice, get their gear setup, then start playing immediately while everyone was still setting up. Simply put, this is a no-brainer. If you want an easy way to influence your team and show them that you care about THEM… may we introduce the most affective sub-conscience way to do so - showing up early. Brenton's pastor growing up used to always say "if you're on time, you're late." - This is something a lot of people disregard and don't think much about. But how many times have you noticed, when you walk into a meeting and the person you're meeting with is already there, how it feels different than when they're not there. The same goes for rehearsals. When everyone is early, set up, and ready to go, then when rehearsal starts, everyone feels at ease and confident. When someone is still dialing in tone, running around to find cables, changing strings when it's time to start… it pushes everything back… then when you have a song that's rough, or technical issues you have to work out, you're already running late and it causes unnecessary stress. Whereas, if everyone is on time, there's a marginal space to work out any unforeseen issues. And if everything goes smoothly, you're done early! More time to hang with the rest of the crew, eat a little snack in the green room, use the restroom, etc. It's a short and simple episode, but a truth that is crucial to every teams growth and success. In this episode, we talk about the heart behind worship. The "Seek First" principle is something we should all have as a number one priority in our lives as Christians… especially as worship leaders. Matthew 6:33 says "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." The entire point of leading worship is to help other people connect with this truth. When we seek God first, He becomes the foundation of our lives and everything else is a bonus… a blessing. When He is first, and his people (Kingdom) are a priority in our lives, then playing, singing, charts, sets, etc. all become secondary… simply put, they are expressions or tools that we use to help facilitate an encounter with God, with him being the ultimate priority and focus. This is why aside from our introduction, it's our first official episode… because it's the most important… the foundation for this entire podcast. As we unpack more logistics, questions, things to make us sharper in the world of worship leading and music… we will always point back to Episode 2. Welcome to Episode 1 of the Worship Online Podcast! In this episode, co-hosts Shalon Palmer and Brenton Miles formally introduce themselves and worship online. Shalon is the founder and creator of Worship Online and has a heart for helping worship leaders and musicians grow in their leadership, as well as continue to grow and expand his successful business and talented team. Brenton has been leading worship for over fifteen years and has been a volunteer, intern, and full time staff member within the local church throughout the years. Now, as a producer and songwriter based in Nashville, he is also the frontman of the band Cor Captis, and is a co-founder of Reverse Podcast. Both Shalon and Brenton have a heart to serve in the local church, as well as train and equip fellow musicians and worship leaders by sharing from their experiences.
