What Worship Leaders Miss that Will Take Their Communities to the Next Level with Lindy Cofer
When you place The Great Commission next to the image of the 21st-century church, there's a bit of a discrepancy. We operate in a culture of "come & see" more than "go & love". What if your worship team could catalyst your community into going and making disciples? This is what Lindy Cofer & the Circuit Riders community not only believes but are also seeing take place all around the US. It takes place by being intentional with the songs we choose to sing and how we move throughout the day. It's not that we are blind to the call to go & love. It's just become secondary in our communities at large & this conversation is aimed at equipping you to go and ignite your community to movement; no matter your position, title, or profession. Growing in the Prophetic with All Nations Music
One of the craziest things about our relationship with God is we have direct access to His voice. God loves using his children to speak into people's lives & carry out His agenda. Words like "prophecy" & "prophetic" can feel intimidating & even seem lofty. "Hearing the voice of God & moving His will forward." This can seem like an absolutely crazy statement, but this is what He loves to use His people for. Scripture is filled with story after story of this very thing taking place. So, what does it look like to walk in the prophetic? In this episode we are joined by All Nations Music, a worship ensemble out of All Nations Worship Assembly in Chicago. This community has a rich history in modeling what it looks like to walk in the spirit of prophecy. We hear them discussed the foundations of the prophetic, what it looks like to operate in it, and common misconceptions surrounding it. This conversation is an incredible resource no matter your level of exposure in relationship to the prophetic. Josh Baldwin: Writing Songs that Change Lives
Writing for corporate worship can feel like a daunting task because ultimately, you're finding a new way to say what's already been said. Our job as writers is to re-present ancient truths of who God is. How you go about doing that in a fresh way is the battle. Great worship songwriting helps people find the words they've been looking for to say to the Lord. They also teach theology that gets embedded into the DNA of our spirits. In this episode, Bethel Music artist Josh Baldwin shares with us about his songwriting journey and the things that have helped him along the way. It all starts by actually having something to say & then saying it in the unique voice that God has given you. This is what we love about Josh. He writes about the revelations he's received about God & what he knows the Lord wants to say to the church, in a way that sounds like Josh from North Carolina. Rita Springer: Jesus Eats with Everyone
When was the last time you sat down to have a meal with someone that didn't look like you or that you didn't agree with? What if saving the world starts by gathering around the table with people who are different than you? The essence of the table of Christ is that there is a seat for everyone, no matter what they identify with or where they stand on a political or social issue. As the body of Christ, the table is our call! Today we talk with someone who's given her life to do that amidst all the other incredible things the Lord has called her to. Rita Springer is an artist, a writer, a worship leader, a mother, a spiritual mother, an artist's school leader, and so much more. She's dedicated to growing in wisdom and being a safe place for everyone, no matter who they are, to come sit with her and her family at the table. If you want to be challenged to grow in wisdom, grow in loving people, and learn what it looks like to make the transition from mentorship to spiritual mothering & fathering, this episode is for you. --- If you like what you hear, please leave us a review! Conversations with Leeland Part I
Right before the Pandemic hit back in March, host, Brenton Miles, sat down with Leeland Mooring and had an incredible conversation about his journey in worship and music. We delayed these episodes in light of current events, but are thrilled to be releasing them now in 2 parts over the next 2 weeks. Leeland came to the forefront of the worship music world in 2004 and debuted their first project, the revolutionary Sound of Melodies, in 2006. Fast forward to now with four GRAMMY® nominations and eight GMA Dove Award® nominations under their belts, Leeland has become one of the most important voices in a new generation of worship music. Their lives, ministry, and music are a true extension of their passion to simply worship God personally and in community. In episode 121, Leeland shares about his early childhood, his experience with the ministry as a kid, church planting, and how he developed his writing. "I don't want to write songs filled with my thoughts about God," Mooring shares about his music motivations. "I want to write songs filled with what God thinks about everything. It isn't my words or ideas about my circumstances that change me, but it's when I use my voice to speak the words of life that come from Jesus' mouth that change me." Bringing Unity and Kingdom Mindset Amidst Racial Injustice
There are no words that can capture the heartache we all feel after hearing of the unjustifiable killing of George Floyd. Racism is evil. It should not exist. It is not from God. It shouldn't take video after video for our country to take responsibility for the amount of evil and prejudice that still exists in America today. On Monday, May 25 in Minneapolis, 46-year-old George Floyd was killed by a white police officer who pinned him to the ground for over 8 minutes until he could no longer breathe. The encounter was caught on a viral video that has since sparked national outrage over the amount of racial injustice that still exists in this nation. Our guest this week, Ryan Williams, is an incredibly gifted songwriter, worship pastor, and lead singer of the worship group River Valley Worship, a faith-filled collection of artists based out of River Valley Church, with locations all around the greater Minneapolis region The timing of this podcast was nothing short of the work of the Holy Spirit, with Ryan's home church just minutes from where George Floyd was killed and where the ever-growing riots are currently taking place. In light of that, we felt led to completely scrap our original plan and talk about bringing unity and Kingdom mindset amidst racial injustice. Ryan also shares how when writing their newest record, "Altars", every edit and change they decided to make was perfectly orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. For such a time as this. Don't miss this powerful episode and be sure to listen to "Altars" by River Valley Worship now available! If you like what you hear, please leave us a review! After releasing his music independently for several years, in 2019 Jonathan inked a record deal with Motown Gospel. "I want to do something different in gospel music that people have never seen or heard before. I want to encourage younger people and help raise a whole new generation of worship leaders that are bold, that are fearless, that are authentic, that are raw...I want to help raise a generation of wild worshippers that don't hold back anything and worship with an intense passion and fire." - Jonathan Traylor And Jonathan Traylor's DEBUT album is exactly that! His debut project on Motown Gospel/Capitol CMG, The Unknown, is an innovative playlist of songs and videos to be released over the course of 2020. Identifying the Real Enemy, Managing Fear, and Finding Peace in a Pandemic
In a time where toilet paper is a rare commodity, countless people are out of work, and popular cities feel like ghost towns, it's hard not to feel like we're in the middle of an apocalyptic movie. Our normal way of living has been flipped upside down. Whether you can see it right now or not, God is using this situation for good. It's what He does. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Genesis 50:20 I believe dramatic revival will come from this season. Jesus Culture: Bringing Hope in the Unknown
"With all the world is facing right now, I think we all need to remember that 'everything will change, so I will not fear. Fear is such a familiar feeling for humans so we need to constantly remind our spirits that God is the source of peace and courage, fear is not what God has to offer, it's what the world offers. Something we always need is hope and especially now more than ever. . . We are clinging to so much information and news and statistics, but those things always fail us. When we cling to hope, we are never disappointed." -Derek Johnson In episode 116 we are honored to be joined by Kim Walker-Smith, Derek Johnson, and Jake Ithurburn from Jesus Culture! Jesus Culture is a church community of revivalists whose heart is to see a generation impacted through encounters with the Presence of God. The Jesus Culture movement began 20 years ago and continues today at their local church in Sacramento, California. Jesus Culture is focused on equipping young and old to transform society by living in community, growing in the Word of God, discipleship, and living lives surrendered to Jesus in passionate worship. Today, the passionate desire to serve the body of Christ and to see the Church rise up and wholeheartedly pursue Jesus, is stronger than ever. On April 24th, Jesus Culture released a brand-new live album, Church Volume One (Live), available here! "Our prayer is that these songs would serve as a weapon for the Church in this time. Our praise and our worship is powerful and it is a weapon to dispel lies and fear. We pray that these songs become the backdrop for many encounters with Jesus and put words to the prayers and cries of hearts." - Kim Walker-Smith Listen in as we talk with Jesus Culture about how they have adapted their church services, how to remain generous, slowing down, and most of all, how to bring hope in the unknown. 3 Ways to Effectively Lead Your Church during Social Distancing
COVID19 has completely transformed the way we live day to day life. Church services, worship nights, rehearsals, small groups, all halted and with little to no certainty of when that will change. For this episode, we wanted to reach out to pastors who have navigated their way through this pandemic and found ways to continue serving their church. In episode 114 we are honored to have Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt who is the lead pastor, along with his wife Jen, of City First Church in Rockford, IL. On April 2, they gave away 43,000 lbs. of food and supplies to their local community in need with a partnership with Convoy of Hope. And on April 7, they opened up their facility to other local pastors who needed a way to record their Easter sermons for online streaming When crisis comes, it unifies. Jesus himself said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35 Right now, the world's response to Coronavirus is to isolate, be fearful, and to hoard. We as the Kingdom of God are called to respond the exact opposite. To unite together, have faith, and to continue to be generous. Choosing Worship with Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective
In episode 112 we are honored to be joined by Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective of Northern Ireland to talk about the importance of choosing to worship despite our circumstance. We recorded this episode a few days before the Coronavirus hit the United States hard, and since then, our entire world has changed. Despite what we didn't know, this episode comes at exactly the right time. With millions of people unemployed and hundreds of thousands infected and dying, now more than ever, we need to worship. "Life is hard. Worship will not always or even usually be our default setting...but like a pilot encountering dangerous landing conditions, when these storms gather over us we have to switch off autopilot, wrestle back the controls and manually, intentionally choose worship. Because God is still worthy in the valley. He is good when life is not. And that's the anchor of our souls." -Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective Don't miss this powerful episode as we unpack what it takes to worship in the valley, and talk about the heart behind their new album, "Choose to Worship" out now! "This album is an invitation into the spiritual discipline that we have been living as a community of building altars of praise in the darkness, trusting that whether or not the dawn comes, worship is still our sacred duty - and privilege. We hope this album gives you a vocabulary so that you can sing from the shackles, lift an anthem of defiance against your circumstances, and raise a shout of joy that demoralizes the enemy in his attempts to silence you. We hope that nothing will ever steal your song. We hope that you will join us in choosing worship." -Rend Collective If you like what you hear, please leave us a review! Sound Teams vs. Worship Leaders: 3 Ways Sound Teams Influence Their Church's Worship Culture
If you're a "production guy" involved in a church, it's crucial that you understand that before anything else, you are a worship leader. You have the power to set the tone before anyone else walks in - the power to freak out or sing out - the power to curate a safe, healthy, vulnerable, freeing environment for people to pursue presence over presentation - or the opposite - cynical, stressful, "I'm in charge" "hate the musicians" atmosphere that breeds contempt and lifeless church environments with quick turnover and a lonely life. It's entirely up to you. In episode 108, Brenton Miles shares his experience running sound in and out of the church, and what more sound teams can be doing to empower their worship team. The console is just another instrument, and the band and production crew are ALL the "worship team." Don't miss this powerful episode made specifically for anyone involved in church production! Finding Your Voice with Leanna Crawford
How do you find your voice as a worship leader? This week we are joined by artist and songwriter, Leanna Crawford to talk about finding your sound. Leanna Crawford is an incredible vocalist and songwriter out of Nashville and tours regularly with artists such as Michael W. Smith, Matthew West, Jeremy Camp, Tenth Avenue North, and Matt Maher. Her passion is to serve young women who struggle with self-doubt and insecurity through music that empowers them. In episode 106, Leanna shares her story about what it took for her to find her voice and pursue her calling. It's our constant downfall as humans to compare ourselves to others. But here's the thing... there will always be someone out there who's better than you and that's OKAY. Because comparison is the number one thing you can do to prevent owning who you are. Perfection is a religious mindset and an unreachable goal. The pursuit of perfection only leads to disappointment but the pursuit of a relationship with God brings life. No matter your situation, your skill, where you live, none of that matters because you have a voice inside you that the enemy will never stop trying to hide. Grieving the Death of a Dream with Hope Darst

Hope Darst is an incredible worship leader for The Belonging Co. in Nashville, TN, and has been traveling the world for over a decade leading worship with Women of Faith, Every Nation Ministries, Christ for All Nations, and many more. In episode 105, Hope opens up about her journey with God, the church, music, and how she learned to overcome the grief of losing a dream. We all have dreams and goals for how we want our future to look like. But what's even more important is the passion you have to back up those dreams. Passion embraces failure, it defies limitations and brings you hope when you are once again let down. So often, we fit God into our agenda rather than aligning with His. But what would happen if we were to actually surrender, and fall in line with the will of God? Listen in to this great episode as Hope shares how she overcame the death of a dream and built an even better one. Also be sure to listen to her brand new single, Peace Be Still, available now! Redefining Your Creativity and The Importance of Taking Risks in Music [with Jordan Holt]
Is the Church playing it safe when it comes to creativity? In podcast episode 104, we are honored to be joined by Jordan Holt (Worship Online Instructor/Guitarist for Kari Jobe) to talk about redefining your creativity and the importance of taking risks! Creativity in definition is about doing something NEW. If you want to thrive in life you have to be willing to get uncomfortable. You have to be willing to try new things with no predictable outcome and you need to be willing to embrace failure. "Failure is an option here. If things are not failing you are not innovating." - Elon Musk In episode 104, we talk about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who are moving forward, how Christ modeled creativity, and how much we can impact the church if we were only willing to take more RISKS.
